In the American version, the location was changed to California, and of course, all the characters names were changed. But most of the characters were pretty much the same, right? One big exception: Sho and his American counterpart Bates. Now, I don't know a word of Japanese, so here's my question: what exactly is the difference between Sho and Bates? I'm guessing Sho is just a bland, underdeveloped version of Bates, but what was really the difference?

Bland...? Underdeveloped? My dear, Sho got just as much development as Mr. Bates, if not more! (Look at the drama CD for instance... I don't want to spoil ^~)

And there are a few main differences. While Mr. Bates is badass and gruff, Sho is gruff in a different, younger way. He's also a bit more elegant-sounding...

The main difference? Sho is voiced by a woman.

The same sprite, same poses, same attitude... the main difference is Roger Jackson, dude! XD

Yes, they're the same/equivalent character; like Kaze says, the main difference is the voice work and its effect on how the player perceives them. For example, Sho, to me, comes off as just a teenage punk, while Bates seems like someone genuinely dangerous (and less likely to be a mere alternate personality of Alyssa, consequently).

Roger Jackson is Mr. Bates! :D

I really could not imagine the Mr. Bates/Sho persona without the voicework of the man who made the voice of the killer in Scream so famous. It just fits too perfectly and like said, he makes Mr. Bates seem so much more dangerous rather than some punk.

so it was just the voice acting, I should've known.......and whoa, the guy ho voiced bates is the same guy who voiced the Scream!? Wow, I gotta spend more attention to credits and stuff.
