DOLPHINATSU WILL KILL U!

While I was chatting with Ms.Mary, this thought came to my mind. I want to know your opinions because I have seen it written a bunch of times on Wikipedia and most places how Haunting Ground was a part of the Clock Tower series: "It was originally designed to be part of the Clock Tower series of video games, but this was scrapped early into its development." SOURCE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haunting_Ground So what do you think, do you believe this to be true? Let us know your opinion! =D |

I always believed that Haunting Ground was never intended to be a part of the Clock Tower series. Sure it did share some of the similar elements, but that does not make them connected in any way. I always known that the game was called Demento in Japan for the longest time and never heard of it becoming possibly "Clock Tower 4". Unless someone proves me wrong -- otherwise, I would stick to my opinion. ^^;; |

While I wasn't aware that was written in the Haunting Ground Wiki and have never seen anything that proves it, I've always held deep suspicions Haunting Ground started life as Clock Tower 4 and I just can't seem to shake them. There are so many similarities- not just in the mechanics, but in the characters, locations, and themes. On its own, that might just mean the designers of HG really, really liked Clock Tower (as I think the designers of Rule of Rose really, really liked Clock Tower)... but that it also just happened to have sprung up out of nowhere after a company with strong connections to CT had to scrap a good number of games for financial reasons? It makes me wonder. Now, if you'd asked whether I wanted Haunting Ground to be CT4... no, not really. I love Haunting Ground as Haunting Ground, but there are important aspects in which I think it clashes too badly with Clock Tower to be part of the series (Fiona, for instance. I like Fiona, but I think she is way too passive to be a CT heroine. Even though Alyssa and Jennifer don't whip uzis out of their skirts and pepper the bad guys with bullets, and even though they need help once in a while, they usually get themselves out of danger. There were too many times Fiona only survived beacuse of infighting between her attackers. If she were up against the cohesive Burroughs clan, she'd have been toast long before she found Hewie). |

I really don't think so, but I really don't know why. It just doesn't fit. It's possible, but I really doubt so. |

On Amazon.co.jp I found some reviews for DEMENTO. One of them put this text: クロックタワー3の続編? Which means: Continuation of Clock Tower 3? And this one: このゲームはクロックタワーの事実上の続編に当たると言うことで買ってみました. Which means: This game tried to be in fact a continuation of the clock tower. So, I think it WAS a part of the Clock Tower series at one point but was changed. |

Well...they did use a lot of things from CT, so I believe at the very first stages it was planned to be a CT4.Im glad its not anyways=)Dont get me wrong, I quite enjoyed HG but the storyline went downhill for me after the part with Daniella. Oh thats not a HG topic anyways. My vote is for "yes":) |

Hmm its certainly possible, though I didn't get that impression while playing though it uses basically the same exact mechanics and whatnot, minus Hewie. Maybe they changed it from CT4 to Demento/HG whenever they decided to include a canine friend? |

Didn't the same development team work on both? The gameplay elements and basic graphic design seem to be the same. As CT3 was not the big success Capcom wanted or expected it to be, it would make sense for the name of what was perceived to be a losing franchise to be stripped from a new title. |

I havenエt played it so I canエt really come with any input.. Ah hell Iエll just defy all logic and do it anyway! I believe that it actually SHOULD have been Clock Tower 4, but yeah.. It was scrapped early during production since it didnエt really share any elements of it except the genre, girl hero, multiple endings etc... (CT3 didnエt have multiple endings... grrr!) |

Just an off fact: The phrase "Tu fui, ego eris" (One of the endings of this game) appears also in silent hill 3 |

I believe that it WAS going to be another Clock Tower game. But since Clock Tower 3 did so poor, along with the fact that they lost a lot of money that year, Capcom was afraid to do another one. So they tinkered around with the horror genre and released Demento (Haunting Ground). Thats what I think. It crossed their minds, but never acted on it. |

mmm, yes, most odd.....It does remind me a lot of CT3, with the style of the cover, the style of gameplay, the pursuit of imortality, and Debilitas. But, I think Capcom simply "borrowed" a bunch of ideas from the CT series. |

Even if it wasn't meant to be a Clock Tower game, I must say I felt that Haunting Ground captured the spirit of the Clock Tower series much better than CT 3 actually did. The reason I say this is despite the fact there is the occultish alchemy aspects running throughout, you ultimately stay as a typical protagonist trapped in a situation beyond their control instead of becoming a magical demon fighting schoolgirl. |

If sites state that, then I have to go with: "I do believe Haunting Ground was supposed to be Clock Tower 4." |
