So how *is* One Missed Call?; Eric Vallette's first big movie

One Missed Call is, as you know, the first Hollywood mainstream project directed by Eric Vallette, who is scheduled, at the moment, to helm the Clock Tower movie.

So: has anyone seen it?

It made $5 million on Friday (with a smaller-than-usual theater count), which sets it up for a respectable opening weekend. The reviews, however, are not kind.

An odd casting choice: Margaret Cho plays the cop on the case. My God, the Hilary Duff rumor is going to come true.

Yikes... I knew it wouldn't be good. And that's from only seeing the trailers a few times. D:

Here's IMDB's page for OMC.

Was planning to see it on the day of its release, but something came up.

In my opinion, it looks like another typical Japanese horror film straight to America like The Ring, The Grudge, and Pulse. Cant say much since I havent seen it yet, but I'll tell you my opinion after I see it.

Mmm... Rubber~

Every time I am with company (and the first time I was with my family), everyone laughs and makes fun of the commercial. "You hear your death... and then you die!" Yeah, kinda expected it to be bad.

OK, so took in $13.5 million over the weekend.

That might not seem like much, but it's all a quickie cheapo horror film needs to be a hit; a film's domestic grosses typically amount to three times the opening weekend, which will be more than enough to cover the low budget. (Wikipedia alleges that the movie cost $30 million.) Add in DVD, and Vallette performed to expectations.

The film even had the highest per-theater gross this weekend - meaning, it perhaps could've taken in more had it been released in more locales. It was up against a few juggernauts (National Treasure, I Am Legend, (blech) Alvin and the Chipmunks), so it's a respectable performance all-in-all.

All I can say is that I'm not much interested in the One Missed Call remake at all. Nothing about it calls to me. Just looks like another quick cash-in remake for the studios to gain some more dough because they think we'll consume anything.

Seen it? Psh, I was IN it.

No, I'm not kidding, they filmed at least a couple scenes in Atlanta, I was someone in a crowd looking at a dead body, no idea if I'm in the credits or on the cutting room floor, because I have not seen the movie, but hey, I got a hundred bucks for sitting around for about six hours to be shot, and then another 2 (After two meals) of hanging around waiting for the shoot.

The Glorious life of an extra, if I get it on DVD and can see myself, I promise a picture.

That is AWESOME zeon! Even if it is a cheapo horrible movie, it's awesome to see someone you know in it. Maybe if someone takes me to see it or when it comes out on Cable, I'll look for ya.

I will add to the that-is-neat reactions! (Was it a serviceably mangled dead body?)

Haha, I didn't expect quite so epic of levels of winage coming my way from just being an extra in a horror flick.

As far as how mangled the body was, well, they didn't have a body to look at it was more of a "Look over here, and make lip talk with this guy." This of course, ended up in me (Without even my knowledge of it, since I couldn't see the bloody thing) looking right into the camera in one take, and getting scolded by one of the AD's

I think my hair was a bit longer at the time, but I'm sure I'll know me if I see me, chances are it'd be a short shot if I'm in it atr all, but still, being in the shoot was fun.

Awesomeness! you really got 300$ just for waiting for the scene to be filmed?? Now I know why the budget is so high up T_T If they have about 100 extras in the movie, that´s easily 300.000$ there!
