The film apparently is based loosely on both the first two Clock Tower games as well as Ghosthead/The Struggle Within, while the characters are based on the ones from Ghosthead. Note: Scissorman IS in the game, though he is a little bit different from his video game counterpart. --- 'Clock Tower' Casting Breakdown Thursday, September 11, 2008 By: MrDisgusting 3 Comments This past week it was announced that Brittany Snow (Prom Night) will topline Senator Entertainment's vidgame adaptation Clock Tower, with Martin Weisz (The Hills Have Eyes 2) directing the production. While the film continues to cast for a shoot this November in Los Angeles, we scored a look at the latest casting breakdown for the film that follows a troubled young woman being treated at a hospital psych ward finds friendship and a kindred spirit in the person of a psychiatrist whose family history is bisects her own... [DR. THOMAS BATES] is in his 40s – 50s and married, with a young daughter, he is a renowned psychiatrist who has finally given up a long stint in a maximum security psych ward for private practice. However, his new upscale patients are boring rather than challenging, and he jumps at the chance to dig his teeth into something more substantial. We later learn that Thomas, not unlike Alyssa, suffered a disturbing childhood, and lost his schizophrenic mother to suicide. As a young boy he had vowed to learn how to make the voices that plagued her go away. While he could not save his mother, he finds a chance to do something right in the life of Alyssa Hale...LEAD (9) [ELEAZER BARROWS] 40s – 60s. He's a grizzled man with a terrifying face in a long black robe, usually seen with an antique pair of shears, he is a fire 'n' brimstone preacher from the 17th century, responsible for the hanging of a great number of "witches." He now makes his presence known to those remaining members of the Hale family, including Alyssa Hale and Chloe Bates...LEAD (6) [SANDI BATES] is in her mid 30s – early 40s, wife of Thomas and mother to their six-year-old daughter, Sandi is a likable, nurturing woman, a furniture restorer who works out of the home. She's happy to have her husband working regular hours with more sane patients, irritated and concerned when he takes such an interest in the case of a young woman at the hospital. Later, she becomes alarmed when it seems that Thomas may harm their little girl...LEAD (11) [DR. HENRY KAPLAN] is in his 40s, African-American, he is the psychiatrist resident at the hospital, currently treating Alyssa Hale. Perplexed by Alyssa's lack of response to massive medication, he calls in the much-revered Dr. Thomas Bates. He's taken aback when Thomas tells him to take Alyssa off her meds, despite the many traumas she's suffered...LEAD (3) [CHLOE BATES] 6 years old, she is Thomas and Sandi's adorable daughter, a bright and precocious child who is constantly conversing with her imaginary friends. However, we later learn that one of these imaginary "friends" is an evil preacher, responsible for the persecution of many witches in the 17th century. Her innocent childhood is being shattered by a disturbing presence...LEAD (11) [JESSICA COOK] In her 40s, she is the wife of the late Edmund Cook, an expert on the Hale family as well as an avid collector of all things pertaining to the Hales. She quickly opens up to Alyssa and Thomas after learning that they are both part of the Hale clan. However, she's clearly tired of all the "crap" in her home and is looking to move soon. She is more than happy to give Alyssa the infamous shears used by the notorious preacher, Eleazer Barrows...15 speeches & 5 lines, 1 scene (81) PLEASE SUBMIT INTERESTING CHARACTER FACES! ANY SHAPE OR SIZE. [LUNDY] In his 30s, mentally unstable, he is a grubby looking patient who is always making sexual overtures towards Alyssa. Later, he comes to a bad end while trying to rape Alyssa in the hospital basement...1 speech & 5 lines, 3 scenes (5) http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/13594 --- Some thoughts... - YAY - Scissorman is in the game, it seems. And although his story is completely different from OUR Scissorman, it's still good news, and his backstory isn't quite as shallow as I would have thought. - WHY IS BRITTNEY SNOW IN THIS MOVIE. Okay, to be fair, she may be better than Prom Night let on. I mean, how could anyone have been good in that movie with such a shallow script and a horrible team behind it? Nevertheless, I'm still disappointed with this casting choice, but I guess it's better than some of the alternatives out there...it's probably better than having Lindsay Lohan, or someone like that. So I'll give her a chance on this one. - I hope they don't dumb this down to PG-13. The plot is actually a little more complex, a little darker, and a little more interesting than I would have thought. I think that even though it doesn't directly follow the games, the plot still has the same tone that all of them do, and that speaks (at least) to the film's (possible) potential... - I don't know what else at the moment, lol. |

Wow, some more information on the movie! It's too bad that the characters so far seem to be related to canon ones in name only (for one thing, possiblemovie!Kaplan is sane and black), but at least there's no chance for them to make any canon characters OOC, right? Also YAY SCISSORMAN. |

She almost seems to fulfill Rick's role in this movie, where he was an expert on the Barrows family and had key information for the main characters. |

Wow! it's very cool to see so many details about the movie! It does sound like an interesting plot, albeit not the straight translation from the games I'd have liked... Hopefully this will still be a great horror film, with the Clock Tower feel even if not the Clock Tower plot. I'll still be disappointed that the plot isn't spot-on (can't there be at least one video game movie, based on a video game with an actual involving plot, that gets the plot right?!) but having the Clock Tower feel will at least make the movie stand out from the array of somewhat bland horror films that are common these days. I just hope Snow's presence as the lead is not a warning sign that this will have the flavor of the Prom Night Remake. That movie took an intricate plot with a twist (though I've not seen the original, its plot seems more imaginitive and intricate than "There's a killer whose identity you always know and to whom there is no secret whatsoever") and turned it into something simple, after the first twenty minutes of which there was really no reward for having sat through it, since you were pretty sure of how things would turn out, and there was no mystery to solve... Other than that, perhaps Ms. Snow will do a good job. But I really hope they'll try to give her a Clock Tower heroine look (if that makes any sense), with how they do her make-up and wardrobe, instead of letting her seem like just another pretty face.[redit][/redit] Edited by MrMasonW2DS, Sep 11 2008, 11:29:55 PM.

Who knows. This "psychiatrist" could be revealed to be one of Alyssa's "personalities" in the end! I hope there's a song in this movie that somehow rhymes "Eleazer" with "scissors" (could be pronounced "see-zers"). It would make my life. |

Yeah, that would be really neat, if they pull it off just right. As for Bates, I'd probably be more sad about him, but I've unfortunately never had the pleasure of playing Clock Tower: The Struggle Within. |

Y'know a part of me thinks that Bates' character in this is quite fitting (I don't even know why) and at the same time I'm upset about it as well Already I've got a good idea what exactly is going to happen to Chloe I'm also completely gutted that Bobby and Dan aren't in it. and I knew it was going to be based on ghost head but I figured that since they are the more well known scissormen at least one of them would appear...but no :( |

At least it's happening. Horror movies do okay, so maybe it'll make enough money that Capcom feels another game isn't too much of a risk. On the other hand... sorry to be the group naysayer, but I don't like this information at all. It's not that the characters are INOs, because I think we all realistically expected that. It's not because it's in danger of being the zillionth movie to mix up schizophrenia and disassociation, because at least in this character sheet, there are no mentions of Alyssa or anyone else having multiple personalities, only hallucinations. Frankly, it's that blasted Scissorman. No, I've learned at this point I shouldn't expect Dan, Bobby, Ralph, or anything that deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence as them, but no Scissorman ever killed out of a deranged sense of "rightness." Every Scissorman shown and mentioned, even the dead ones and the copycats from part 2, killed first and foremost for the fun of it. It doesn't help that Eleazar, as described here, sounds like a wholesale ripoff of Christabella from the Silent Hill movie. I'm sorry, but unless this is either a dummy sheet to disguise the real plot or a very early draft that will undergo major changes before release, I do not see this turning into anything I'd like. I'll still see it, but I'll treat the admission like a lottery ticket that might win me Clock Tower 4. EDIT: P.S. - And Bates makes me sad. Edited by JBurroughs, Sep 12 2008, 06:52:29 PM.

Ugh...a guy tries to rape Alyssa, they included sex...ugh...hollywood. I don't know guys (apart from the attempted rape thing) it STILL sounds hollywood-y to me. I can already see how the movie is going to be like. Well, I might be wrong, I shouldn't be judgmental. |

Thanks for the info Reiji! This is looking pretty grim. Im starting to think that this will be a PG-13 rated movie. And the "Scissorman" in this movie just sounds horrible. A fire n' brimstone preacher from the 17th century? Give me a break. |
