But it could still work if...; Might as well get the concerns out there

ALYSSA! I've become a Subordinate!

Since the new posters and trickle of information has brought up some concerns about the film, I thought I'd make a thread specifically for them. I know there have been "things you don't want to see" before, but this one has a twist. Think of the one thing that scares you most about the film... and then think of a way that idea could be saved without being outright discarded.

For instance...

I fear: Eleazar Burroughs being described as "a fire and brimstone preacher from the 1800's." I'm afraid he'll be a ranting, glassy-eyed caricature I've seen in a zillion other movies that try to portray fanatics without even a minimal understanding of how fanatacism works or looks. Scissorman is the backbone of Clock Tower. He cannot afford to be a boring stereotype.

But it could still work if: Instead of patterning Eleazar after Christabella, they pattern him after either Mary or Dan Burroughs (you know, characters who're actually from Clock Tower?). For instance, the "Dan version" could be a cold, logical manipulator who serves up his "fire and brimstone" because his followers eat it up, not because he believes it, the way Dan strung along Kay and Harris by telling them what they wanted to hear. The "Mary version" could be clean-cut and respectable on the surface, charming, charismatic, and seemingly protective; someone viewers in the audience could see themselves trusting.

Also, give the man some real scissors, fer cryin' out loud.

Any others?

I got a reply to an email I sent to Martin Weisz today. ^^ I basically told him that we (from DCJ) could help out if he ever needs advice or reference or comic relief... He seems like a very decent guy. :D

Hey Vinnie,

thanks for your email. It is good to see that the game community is watching the project. I think you guys will be pleasantly surprised with what is in store for the movie. We have been very busy rewriting and working on the script, mainly to make it a great film and incorporate the game concept as good as possible. There are a lot of rumors floating around the internet about the script, story and characters. Most of them are wrong :-)

I think that the Clocktower series is a very hard to adapt game, since so much plays in a rather fictitious and surreal world. Thats why we decided to take a different approach and create a new basic storyline (of course based on the game idea and with the same characters). But in a movie you need to create a storyline and backstory to satisfy the audience and not leave them hanging. Things like, who is "The Scissorman", what does he want from Alyssa, why does he chase her and so on. So you need to create more depth, but stay true to the game idea and main story.

I feel we are having a great script right now, that incorporates parts from all the games and creates a great storyline. I really think that the fans will enjoy it as well as the new audience. It is like a new Clocktower series with all the characters intact.

As for the Scissorman, I totally agree with you. Rest assured that we are not wandering off in fantasy land, but keeping the whole film very REAL. The same for the Scissorman. He is a real character and he has a real pair of scissors. Again i think the fans will like him a lot.

Now, for the spoofs :-). Our film is very suspenseful and dark, not sure how the spoofs would fit in. Sorry, but i guess on that point i might not agree :-)

Be sure that we consider all the mails we receive and are hard at work to make an outstanding movie that makes the game and new audience very happy.

Thanks for all your comments.

Best,

Martin Weisz

Hehe, I liked his reply. I'm glad they're slightly reworking the script and stuff. ^^ And, JBurroughs, it's a real pair of scissors! :O

He sounds like a nice guy! But, uh... Why would you ask him about spoofs? Those would seem really out of place, to be honest. (Also, can we see the message you sent him? I'm curious about what it says.)

I know the spoofs would be really out of place, but, I thought it would be a funny idea... *shot* Just some comic relief... I dunno. :P

Wow, that's cool! He sounds pretty down to earth. I don't know if I agree that existing Clock Tower stories aren't adaptable content-wise, but I understand there are probably other issues in the way of a direct adaption (copyright, etc), and I am so glad to hear most of the 'Net rumors are fake and that the scissors are real!

Interesting. Hate to get my hopes up though. If what he says is true, then who knows. Might be decent. The final judgment will be made when the credits roll.

Wow, well it's nice to get a word from the actual directors I must say. It's a relief that most of these rumours have been confirmed wrong, and it sounds like they're working hard to create a balance between making it a great movie while pleasing the fans at the same time.

One thing i'd like to know though, is that he said he's working on a script that incorporates things from all the games... Does this mean he's kind of combining ALL the games into one? Or is it going to be mainly based on, say, First Fear, but we can expect to hear Scissorman say "Snippety snap!"?

Thoughts?

Edgeworth's on the verge of Panicking

If I EVER heard Bobby quote Janis, I'm pretty sure I'd have to die laughing.
The Reasons Clock Tower And Resident Evil Can't Be Crossed Over:

1. Alyssa would pwn all the zombies.
2. Bobby would probably kill someone. It's his job.
3. Jennifer would solve the puzzles in minutes.
AND
4. Bates owns Wesker and that is that.

Well, yeah I think i'd die too but I was just using that as an example off the top of my head, not necessarily that actual quote or anything.

Hey, I got a response, too! *_* I tried to keep it pretty short:

Quote:

Mr. Weisz,

Hope you’re well! I’m one of many fans of the Clock Tower game excited and curious about the upcoming film. Can't wait for more official info!

While Scissorman is incredibly important, I'm also hopeful the film’s Alyssa will be someone we can identify with. Clock Tower has a history of sympathetic heroines- Helen, Yu, Alyssa, and of course, Jennifer- who, though they aren’t commando powerhouses, are willing to face danger and make players want to root for them (which makes it scarier when they’re threatened). I’d love to see a heroine with this kind of weight in the movie, too!

Looking forward to hearing the approaching scissors in a theater near me,

[Deleted], alias "JBurroughs"

PS: Not that I'm biased... but the first Clock Tower (for the SNES) is the best one.

Mr. Weisz responded,

Hello "JBurroughs",

thanks for your interest in "Clocktower". Of course i can not give you any detailed information about the project, but i wanted to tell you that i think your thoughts about Alyssa are right on the money.

Sincerely,

Martin Weisz

This is certainly nice to hear. Clock Tower's one of the few horror fandoms just as in love with its heroines as its villains. :) 'Twas very kind of him to take the time to write back!

Because it's a confusing name.

Wow...my expectations went up...a little. I still can't get over the stupid posters, but if what he's saying is true, then I'll be happy to be spending $7.50 to watch this...

Hmm...I wonder what plans are in store though...
