Honda is slowly but relentlessly moving towards its target with Asimo. In Japan, the western culture has changed their society quite significantly and the old folks are now left to live on their own and take care of themselves. When we get old, a decline in mobility is a given. So Honda's vision with Asimo is that one day in the not too far future, Asimos will be able to look after the elderly, much like a nursing home. So they will be able to clean the house for us, to do cooking or shopping, and to help us when we get old to move around, etc. All that Honda has been doing with Asimo needs to be looked at in this context. It can be really shocking how complicated some menial work (like sweeping or mopping the floor) can be if it needs to be done properly. It can be much more complex than things like dancing on the spot or conducting an orchestra.
