A brief history of homosexuality, played out in Vauxhall

17th April 2008 15:30
Tony Grew

Billed as a shambolic evening of informative entertainment, audience participation and politics, the House of Homosexual Culture and Timberlina will present A Brief History of Homosexuality later this month.

Queen of Alternative Style Timberlina was described by Time Out as somewhere between Kenny Everett and Brian Cant, and her groundbreaking shows have ensured she has a solid fan base.

She is well known for taking audience participation into new realms, with her patented 'MAKE AND DO' mobiles, colouring-in competitions and site specific 'FIXINGS-WITH-STORIES-AND-SONG'.

Timberlina will take to the stage at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern on 24th April for her cribbed and potted history of the cultural practice of homosexuality from the Classical Age to modern times.

There will be a second performance on 13th May at Bistrotheque, Wadeson Street, E2 as part of Under Construction.

In other presentations from the House of Homosexual Culture this year include a series of events at the London Literature Festival, all over the South Bank in July.

On 30th May Bette Bourne will be inducted into the House of Homosexual Culture Hall of Fame with a red-carpet gala event celebrating this legendary drag performer, activist and actor.
