don't get me wrong here john, I have no problem with anybody claiming any benefits they are entitled too. I have had to claim Housing and Council Tax Benefit this year when I lost my job because my partner was working as a lorry driver at the time and the work wasn't very regular (he was on an agency). When he started his new job (he is now a trainee ambulance technician), we paid back the council what they had paid for the housing and council tax because we wanted to stand on our own two feet. he doesn't earn a great deal at the moment but it is enough to pay the rent; council tax; bills; food etc and give us a little left over every month. the reason we claim tax credits, well because the government told us we were entitled to do so. when I was working full time it paid for my eldest son to be in nursery. when I start my midwifery degree next year it will pay for my youngest to be in nursery full time. I know how hard it is to bring up kids and work and the financial problems it brings. My mum and dad had to work all the hours god sent to bring me and my sister up and make ends meet and my partner and i do the same be it with a little help from the tax credits. what makes me really mad (and the government said this not me), is the fact all those illegal immigrants were paid money by making false claims on the tax credits system. Now these are the people that need to be punished, not the ordinary hard working people who have been caught with this silly April until your Annual Declaration is returned rubbish where you are always going to be in debt to them. In theory this system was the best system ever but it has just let so many people down it is disgusting. I worked in retail so some months I was on basic wages, other months when there were sales and things I was putting in a lot of overtime. That wasn't my fault that was what my job entailed but I am now being punished for the job I did. I know people who claim tax credits that have worked that bit harder near Christmas to earn a bit more money to be able to buy presents for their kids and their families and they are now being punished. I also know people that have earnt less than they thought they would but they have not received any payments from the tax office to reflect this and why not, because 2 years ago the tax office can flag up an overpayment and people get so scared they just accept it. These sorts of practices are not on and they need to be stopped now. |
