 Provident chief to depart after 'a tough five years'

Doorstep lender Provident Financial is parting company with its chief executive - Robin Ashton - after setbacks in Eastern Europe and losses at its car credit business Yes Car.

Mr Ashton, who has been chief executive since 2001 and worked for Provident Financial for 23 years, will leave at the end of the year. He will not be replaced, as the company is about to split in two, and will receive about £500,000 in compensation.
