Hi, Can you give me some advice, my wife and I bought a Fiat Brava last in Feb 04. We pay £210 per month for 48 months, it totals in excess of £10,000 in total. we have paid £4100 so far. We want to cancel as we have only just realised exactly how much he car will cost. I know we should have read into the agreement more but really didn't see it at the time, the salesmen where pushy and didn't really explain everything we feel very mislead. I called yes car today they said that I had to fax a final settlement request letter and in return they would send a figure out to us. I am concerned as we didn't reallise we where being ripped off by paying over double the actual car value.I have to call tomorrow for the figure. Can you advise me of how to go about cancelling and fighting these rip off merchants. Regards |

Hi, Welcome to the boards ;) You will get a letter back saying that you will have to pay them the remaining payments up until the 2 years are up (Feb '06), then you will also have to pay the insurances (they may offer a very small discount for the insurances). Expect to get a letter asking for approx £3500 just to hand the car back!!! Unfortunately the best option is probably keep the car until Feb '06 (you will still have to make these payments anyway so might aswell keep the car) and just return it and wait for the letter asking for the insurance payments. Hopefully by then there will be more news about the insurances and how we can just not pay them. Don't just hand the car back now because you will still have to pay for it until Feb '06. You can still ask for a settlement fee just to see how much they are asking you for. Don't mention cancelling in the letter just yet. John |

On the home page of this site is an article about someone who managed to get their insurance cancelled after handing the car back on the 2 year mark. They got a bit of help from a Sunday newspaper but any brief would be interested in this article if you have to bring in a solicitor. http://www.sundaymail.co.uk/thejudge/theju...-name_page.html |

Hi Just to let you know I called Yes Car today to find out how much the early settlement would be and was told they wanted another £5120 from us on top of the £4100 already paid. The person I spoke to told me that it was usual for the insurance to continue when i questioned it and quoted some of the newspaper articles regarding people having these fees 'written off' I was cut short and told to contact head office and the person hung up on me ! I'm now going to contact the OFT to voice my concerns regarding this company. I'm also going to tell them to take their car back and they can fight for their money. AH |

Good on you AH. Get that complaint in to OFT. ;) I know that the facts and testimonies coming from this site are getting the better of those YCC customer services lot. Hence them hanging up on you. I've experienced the same and that after being polite and easy on the "helpdesk" person. Also from other sites I read these guys returning home from a days work in tears. It is only going to get worse for them when OFT have to act. AH, please keep us informed. :) |
