Hi everyone, I've just joined your website as my hubby and I are experiencing problems with YCC. Unfortunately, my husband has just been put on a 3-day week and we can no longer afford our monthly payment to YCC. We decided that we would ask them if we could the car, after reading our agreement it says that after we have paid a certain figure we can return the car and will not have to pay anymore installments. I have written to them requesting surrender, but I have been plagued by telephone calls. Today I spoke to a very arrogant and cocky male person who said yes, we would more than likely be able to return the car, but we would have to pay up all that is owing on the non-cancellable insurances (which he said was about £2500) Why should we be expected to insure something we no longer own, its ridiculous and scandalous. Can anyone who has been in the same situation offer any advice please, we would be extremely grateful. By the way, we have paid well over the figure quoted on the agreement.

until you return the car i found that ycc wont discuss the final amount they say you owe them for insurances until they they have taken off what they resell your car for. i kept up the same barrage of phone calls they gave me and wrote to all the directors too. explaining why the return of the car should be the end with no more to pay. it worked in the end. mention this site. go to the c.a.b too. tell them like i did that they have wrote off other peoples debts to. |

Jen, I'm taking it that you were told the insurances were compulsory not optional. If so don't feel stupid as most of us on this site have been through this. From what I have learnt YCC charge you 4 years insurances upfront where you pay them back on a monthly basis. Hence that is why they are wanting you to pay the extra. They don't tell you this at the time and you only find out when you return your car. Its a practise that they have used over the years but now it is being exposed they are struggling as a business. If you end up going to a solicitor it is worth mentioning to him/her that when you "signed" the agreement you were not told how much the insurances will cost you over the years, were not given any paperwork indicating this and you were told it was compulsory. Use this site as evidence of testimonies. Also inform your brief that these charges have been dropped in other cases. One other thing I would do is e-mail Charlie Macdonald ( Charlie.MacDonald@directautofinance.com) and tell him your story. He is the customer services director. Trying to get hold of him over the phone is getting impossible and true to YCC attitudes he will not call you back. Hence the reason to e-mail him. Finally do us all favour and report them to the Trading Standards and OFT. Good luck when you call them |
