Despite the way the letters from collection companies are worded

YOU ARE NOT LEGALLY OBLIGED TO DIVULGE ANY FINANCIAL OR OTHER PERSONAL INFORMATION ETC TO THEM thum

A lot of companies will try to scare you into giving this information, by implying you have to do so. They will make out it is for your benefit. DON'T BELIEVE IT. If anything they will use the info against you.
If you are sent a "means form", just strike lines through it and write "PERSONAL" and return it to the agency.

If you offer an installment plan, then it would be advisable to enclose the first payment by cheque/ postal order to show you are genuine.

This will make it much harder for the agency to reject your offer.
