When my girlfriend bought her ibiza from one of Scotland's biggest dealer chains, Arnold Clark, the original salesman was very helpful and not too pushy. However, 2 days after she collected her car (2nd hand but allegedly looked over before going up for sale) we discovered an intermittent fault with the central locking, which had been put down to flat batteries when it happened on the test drive, and more worryingly that the boot didn't lock at all. We noticed while we were at the shops and took it straight back to the dealer, thinking that they might be able to do something about it there and then. The initial attitude was, "Too bad", then "it's Friday afternoon, come back on monday" but we insisted and they said it'd have to be left with them. We asked, reasonably we thought since it was their lack of attention that had landed us miles from home without transport, if they would help us get home, the salesman told us that none of them lived our way and when we asked about a taxi his response was "There's a bus stop up the road". His attitude stank of we've got your money now sod off and stop bothering us and he clearly thought customer service was when he got lucky with a punter. When we eventually got the car back it was to find that they'd replaced the remote fob and done sod all to fix the lock. The service guy said his job sheet didn't mention the lock, despite having in his hand the cardboard keyring with the instruction to get a new fob and fix the boot lock. On top of that we discovered a few months ago that the 1 year warranty that they offer through a third party had never been registered so if she had broken down anywhere the recovery company would have refused to come and get her. We complained about this and were assured that it was a clerical error that would be fixed straight away. Guess what, 3 months later, still nothing's been done. Shower of cowboys and I've since heard similar complaints about some of their other dealers across Edinburgh and Glasgow |
