"The Lowell Group offers a refreshing, ethical and innovative approach to debtor management." Depends on what their ethics are. Time will tell. Wonder how long it is before we get reports of Mr Lowell with a Kodak outside a debtors house :ph43r: Buzz |

These guys seem to be causing a stink with old Sky debts. On blagger there are a number of users who have received a debt of about 5 years old that they know nothing about. With Godebt their problems started when they purchased YCC debt. you dont hear any other debts giving them a hard time. So with these guys already having problems with Sky debts, wonder how much more trouble they are going to get into with YCC debts? |

I have just had a letter from our friends at Lowells for a debt with HSBC. the debt has been owed for 4 years but HSBC could never tell me who they had sold the debt on to and now this week Lowells have written to say they now have the debt - obviously they are branching out |

ok an update on Lowell. I wrote to them a couple of weeks ago (by recorded delivery) to say that I could only afford to pay them £10 a month towards the debt with HSBC (it stands at £777). This is because I am not working and my partner and I have more important debts to clear such as rent arrears; council tax arrears and a bill for severn trent. So really the HSBC debt (considering its been owed for like 4 years) is the lowest of the low. I had a reply from Lowells the other day saying that my offer of £10 a month was unacceptable. Oh well I thought take me to court and we'll see what they say then. Bearing in mind my partner works 30 hours a week basic; earns £6.30 an hour and we have two kids to feed I doubt they would say this was unreasonable. Anyway, today they have sent me a direct debit mandate and asked me to fill it in and send it back. There is no mention of what amount the direct debit is for so how stupid do they think I am! Like I'm just gonna sign a bit of paper saying they can take money from my account every month without them saying how much they are gonna take. I'm not gonna give them free rein on my money like that especially after reading all the stories about them. I shall be writing to them again over xmas (will give me something to do while every one else sleeps!!) telling them that unless I have it in writing what they are going to be taking from my account every month I will not be signing anything. I shall also be telling them again that I will not be ringing their extortionate phone number to be kept on hold so they can make more money out of me and that if they want to communicate it will all be done in writing. |

Don't set-up a direct debit, ask them for an account number so that you can set-up a standing order. With a direct debit the company requests the money from your account, but with a standing order you send the money to their account. They cannot change the amount or the date it is sent, only you can do that. You have full control with a standing order, but no control with a direct debit. |

so if i was to set up a standing order it would be for the amount i choose on the date i choose is this correct? what worries me with the DD is that they have redused my payment of £10 a month and if they had DD details they could take what they want when they want |
