The company said Ashton's departure is amicable, adding that it paves the way for wider management changes as it proceeds with a planned demerger of its international division from the core UK arm in the spring of 2007. 'We had a tough few years due to external matters such as Poland and the Competition Commission enquiries, and I sat down with Robin and discussed where we were, and we both agreed a fresh approach was desirable,' Provident Financial chairman John van Kuffeler told AFX News in a telephone interview. www.forbes.com
