Top watchdog takes on PPI Sascha Hutchinson, This is Money 7 February 2007 The Office of Fair Trading today formally referred the payment protection insurance industry to the Competition Commission, following a period of public consultation. The OFT said that it had taken into consideration more than 20 responses from trade bodies, businesses and consumer groups and remained of the view that competition concerns that had been earlier identified remained valid and warranted a CC investigation. Its intention to refer the industry to the CC was announced in October last year. The OFT criticised the conduct of some companies which sell PPI for automatically including the insurance in the quote for a card or loan, without the customer's knowledge... this is money |
