Lol, Nightmare welcome to our forum.

To return the car to YCC it needs to be in "reasonable" condition.

Why has your car been off the road for so long?

Hi,

When I got the car from ycc, the fuel pump cut out and they supposedly repeaired it. 6 months later the same thing happened again and the fuel pump had been bypassed. I have had to have the car rewired, new clocks and is now in need of a new engine management unit. I have spent over #1,500 on repairs and the ecu is going to cost the same again. Tried to get the mechanical b/d to help but because the original fault had been 6 months prior they will not do anything and say it is wear and tear which is not covered and also that nothing can be proved that ycc did the botch job in the first place.

Hi Nightmare.

When you had the pump repaired and rewired the car at your own expense did you get a receipt?

If you can provide proof that YCC had botched the original job and bypassed it, then it will help your case.

From buying the car, what are the approx timetables of events?

If it had only been six months, then that surely cannot be wear and tear.
Also if the original problem was reported shortly after you got the car and YCC botched it then you can argue that the reason it failed again was because of the botch job and the fault is still the original one that hadnt been repaired to an acceptable standard.

by gum buss, that was quick.

Bought the car in june 05, fault in july, got it back the end of that month, had it to auto electrics in January and clearly states on invoice found to have wiring bypassing original fuel wiring.

To be honest buzz, I just want shot of the car what can I do??

do you have any proof of the work done in july 2005? or do you even know where the work was done?

I would speak to Trading Standards about this as the faults you are experiencing now are obviously down to the botch job YCC did in the first place (they did the same to me but with something that wasn't quite that serious but has still cost me over £1000 to put right).

with regards the car I know it is frustrating and you are now desperate to give it back. so I would suggest you either:

1) terminate your agreement now (which you are allowed to do) and pay in one lump sum until June which will be your 2 year mark

2) keep the car and keep paying every month until June and then terminate which will only leave you liable for the insurances

However, I would definitely speak to Trading Standards. If the ECU needs fixing and you return the car the likelyhood is YCC will then start chasing you for the money for this repair. The thing is if you have it done yourself it will be oone price - if YCC claim to have had it done you can guarantee it will be a lot more

Hope this helps in some way

Hi,

Thanks for your quick response, I have already spoken to trading standards last year and as we do not have proof of the repairs that Ycc did, we don't have much to stand with. Rock and a hard place banghead

you say the work paid for by YCC was done in about December 2005?

Have you tried approaching the garage who did the repairs to see if they still hold anything on record? I know that Nationwide still had my repairs on file after almost 2 years so it may be worth a try.

If you can get hold of this then I would go back to Trading Standards

Hi jenni,

sorry its been a while but the repairs to the car originally were done in house at Gateshead which no longer exsists. so no joy in going back.

I have read just about all the mails on this site and am afraid I am just gonna have to get it repaired myself as it will cost me as much in solicitors fees fighting them due to not being eligable for legal aid. :(

Thank you for all your advice and good luck against YCC

have you written to DAF and requested to see all info they hold on you and the car because even if the repairs were done in house there should be a record of them
