Hi - I posted below and have since spoken to Stephensons in great detail. I recieved a letter from them yesterday, lots and lots of information, but 2 things stood out to me. The first was that my case has "60% prospects" and secondly that the expected costs will be £7500!!

Now, I have legal expenses cover, so I understand I won't have to fork out that amount, however am slightly concerned I am trying to fight one debt by building up another.

The 60% prospects thing is worrying. It does say that even the best case has only 80%, so mine isn't too bad, but I'm a bit worried.

When I spoke to the woman at DAF she seemed confident they would sort it out there and then (ie., if I can prove my husband was self-emplyed, which I can) without the need for courts etc.

I'm not sure if I would feel different if I owed more, or still had the car.

What do you think? Am I doing the right thing by not going with the solicitors? Help!! hewlp.

If YCC are willing to cooperate here, admit that they were wrong to sell you PPI cover and offer you a full refund, I would suggest this option is more viable than getting into a situation where it may cost you more money involving solicitors.

Are they willing to come to this arrangement hmm

Prove that your husband was self employed.

This was then missold. Case over and proven.

Demand they repay you the whole amount paid on the PPI cover.

This is not negotiable.

Just demand it is repaid immediately they are on receipt of the proof.

If you can get to Horsham maybe go and collect the cheque and make an apointment.

Go for it and good Luck. ddd

I agree with whistle, if you can sort this out without litigation then that would be your best option, as you have clearley identified you dont want to change one debt for the other and the worst case scenario would be that your case woudnt be won and you would have solicitor costs to meet as well as the YCC debt, so if it can be sorted without the litigation then i personally would do this.

But at the end of the day it is your choice
dunno
