I have a feeling they are allowed to contact your commanding officer/welfare officer with regards to debts, when i was in the forces it was a chargeable offence under queens regs aswell altho that was over 10 years ago so it may be a lot different now. |

I would have thought DAF discussing the contract with your employer a breach of the data protection act. Why have they done this? Have they written to you and you have ignored them? Even if that is the case I cant see they have the right to discuss it with them. Buzz |

If there is a debt problem then they can approach this way. I think we need to know a bit more here before we can comment. |

A creditor is legally allowed to approach an employer regarding a debtor, but is usually quite a late step in the process. In your case however as you are in the forces then it may be that this is the only that YCC can get hold of you. Normally they would contact you directly via letter but may have tried this already if you are on a tour away from the address you gave them. It may be nothing to worry about, and that they simply want to talk to you. Maybe you should give YCC head office a call yourself to ask them what is going on? |

its bully boy tactics as they know that being in the forces, they will pay up via your paymaster when they force you onto cash payments...it was like that when i was in 10 years ago. i remember the council tried that with the council tax and contacted the co when we singlies didnt pay and we got dragged over the coals for not paying...

after contacting the data protaction commisioner i have since found out that it is against the data protection act to contact employers without your permission. DAF are now denying they wrote to them although we have a copy of the letter that is signed by one of their representitives |

Well over the last 2 years that is what we have been recommending our users do, complain to the OFT. I would hate to guess how many have complained. What have the OFT done, nothing. In fact I got in touch with one of the OFT bods and the reply I got to our complaints was "we might do something". What annoys me about the OFT is that they visit our site so they know what is going on. They actually posted on here advising our users to complain to them. For a long time we actually had a contact and his e-mail address on here for our users to complain to. What a waste of time that turned out to be. The real problem we have is the fact that we are up against a big organisation. The OFT are too scared to act against them unless the pressure is on. Unless you get the media attention and enough people shout such as the bank charges campaign then the OFT get frightened and act. When they do act its only a token gesture. Take the bank charges, what have the OFT said? They agreed the charges are extorionate but if customers want their money back then they have got to do it themselves. Well thanks alot for nothing, thats exactly what the customers have been doing. How about ordering the banks to refund everyone immediately saving the customers the hassle for a system that has been unfair to them. This just goes to show the OFT who are run by the governement who rely on the tax payer are not in control. They are puppets for the big boys who pull their strings. Rant over, now shall we get back to the OP. Now what was that about? |
