Hi all, DAF decided that they wouldn't accept our payment scheme (the original monthly payments) and said that our case was being dealt with the legal dept. Last Thursday/Friday I received a txt message from DAF asking me to call them with a different reference number. As usual I ignored it. They tried calling my mobile this morning and I never answer anonymous calls, so I ignored that. As I was listening to the voicemail they left the house phone rang and it was DAF again. After I told them that we're waiting for the legal dept to get in touch, he offered me a 75% discount. So instead of paying £1900, it's now down to £476.69, I told him I couldn't afford that right now, and he then said he can do it over 2 payments. I've taken his arm off just to get rid of this crap. Wise choice? |

I believe it probably is, 75% discount off the outstanding debt and they will allow you to pay over two months sounds a generous deal. Just goes to show what they are able to offer when they want to! Are they informing the credit agencies that you will have settled your debt in full? |

Yes, make sure they remove the default from your credit file. This company areunprofessional and are not capable of thinking that far. Well done on your battle with them. This is encouraging for the rest of us. |

I have no idea. If they tell me that my account will be fully closed if I pay the two payments, then I suppose so. I finally received my first letter stating that they are going to do something if I do not make arrangements within 5 days. over 2 months since they picked up the car. |

Well I contacted DAF today, and they have said they have sent a letter confirming the 2 payments, and have also confirmed that once those 2 payments have been paid, my account is closed and my credit file will show full payment. As above, I have also signed up to receive my Credit Report, which will tell me whether they have done anything to my credit file or not at the moment. |

so this letter will definitely confirm that this is all you owe and the account has then been settled? |

Well done GRoberts, I also managed to get quite a discount on mine too. I owed about 300 on my instalments as I terminated early and then 600 in insurances and they gave me half on the full amount so I also grabbed it and have paid up.

just make sure you get written confirmation that this is all you owe and that they are settling your credit file - this seems the be the thing they are slowest at doing but you can always speak to the credit reference agencies and get them to chase DAF up to confirm that the account is closed - may be quicker than waiting for DAF |

you need them to confirm this in writing but having £300 accepted is a start - a few months ago they would never have accepted such an offer |

Just keep an eye on those credit files - they are not quick at updating them to show settlements. Nice to see some good settlement deals though - nice work ! HWYS. |

It looks as if they are getting desperate (sp). If they are sooooo in the right, then why the discounts in the first place. Either way, getting rid of DAF is the light at the end of the tunnel. I've delayed doing anything financially, such as getting a new car because of these, just incase what ever I get is repo'd. Finally. |

my partner of all people received a call from them asking for the full amount (excluding discount) and proceeded to tell her she's a liar because we said we have already sorted this out with a 75% discount. She said she would call back, and she hasn't lol. We did ask for a letter providing writen proof of the monthly installments and that my credit file will show that i'm fully paid, but I haven't got anything even after being told I would (i'd sooner see pigs fly) I've just paid one payment, should I pay the second payment next month and leave it or shall I get proof first? |

hi there - have you had anything in writing to confirm that they have agreed a 75% discount and once this is paid the account will be settled in full? |

I have only had confirmation via Telephone, we have requested twice the deal in writing but we are yet to receive anything. I was a little apprehensive of the deal but who would say no? I am going to write a letter tonight, stating that I want writen confirmation before I pay the next payment which is in a months time. Thus giving them plenty of time. I may stick in that failure to confirm in writing before the next payment date, will result in them forfeighting the right to pursue my account further. (not sure how to put this tho) |

why are these offers not put in writing by DAF? everyone needs to be very careful here! its one persons word against another - a telephone conversation! these offers need to be put in writing before any payments are made in my opinion! would you trust what YCC say?? dont forget here that these employees at DAF are aslo paid commission! the more money they collect from you the more money they get paid! GET IT IN WRITING BEFORE YOU PAY ANYTHING AGREED ON THE TELEPHONE REFERENCE DISOUNTS ON OUTSTANDING BALANCES!!! |
