Well, I want to start out with a happy possibility, but then you'll have to explan why Ausiello would just fling something out there like he did. Have you known him to do that before? Here is my happy thought, which leads us near to TTTMNBN: Let's spin the Izzie-Derek Karma wheel in conjunction with the season 2 to 3 parallels. You all said that you didn't see Denny dying coming in that episode. So in the last hour of the season, Izzie agrees to marry Denny and then Denny dies. The romance of Izzie and Denny had been building up to that hour. So this season, Derek is leaning farther and farther away from Meredith, but in the last hour they fight and then move toward TTTMNBN. In addition, it wasn't accidental that the chief and Bailey saw the slap. They will be there to slap Derek. (Now, I admit it is much more likely we leave the season with Meredith and Derek on a cliff because that's how each season has ended and started - S1 - Meredith has to decide if she'll be with Derek. S2 - Derek has to decide if he'll be with Meredith. S3 - Meredith has to decide if she'll be with Derek, so S4 would start with Derek needing to decide to be with Meredith. But I hate the cliff. I don't like Shonda. And I have a thought about the bar girl and the suddenly offered contract that involves hating Shonda and her fascination with various actors and decisions to wing off the main story arc because that's what the characters would do . .. but I'll not put it down in electrons because it's too frustrating. And Shonda has to understand that most of us will not think the fun is back in S4 if Derek and Meredith aren't together. Alex will be alone and lonely, with Ava and hubby reconnected, no Addison, not in the wedding. Sets up "Why is he so afraid?" for next year. 2. It will come out that Bailey is separated. Sets up story line for next year. 3. Chief and Adele will try again. 4. Mark will be there to keep Derek on the straight and narrow re: McBarSlut. 5. George will admit to Callie that he loves both Izzie and Callie when Callie confonts him. I do think we get Callie George s ex and maybe George Izzie s ex. Callie will say she's pregnant. I'm not sure she is, but it's her card to play to keep him. I think George tells Izzie firmly that they are off . . .but we know the end won't be that clean and it will continue to be an issue into next season.* George is the intern who fails. He's so demoralized over the Izzie-Callie situation he says he isn't going to repeat year (a la Izzie last year). Ultimately he will either retake or repeat next year. He will decide not to be at SGH. think there is a high likelihood he asks Cristina to transfer to a new hospital with him and she says, No. She may even say how much she hates the wedding and that he doesn't listen to her. And that is a big part of the end for them. Burke figures out that Cris didn't pick the red velvet cake - her friends did and she just told him it was her pic. It's the last straw. He's done. He leaves her . . . I'm not sure how this plays out . . . It's hard to see proper Burke disrupting the wedding, but if they get to the altar, that's what has to happen. I 7. Cris. Left at the altar. 8. Derek. Named Chief. Will encourage Chief to stay on . . . may not know if Derek will be Chief or if the Chief stays on. Ultimately Derek will be Chief - but maybe not now. No McBarSlut - but the fact that he's tempted terrifies him too. He just wants to escape. He just wants things to be easier. 9. Meredith (and the MerDer of it all). Her loyalties are tested. Derek says, "It's me or your friends." She has only the interns as family and she has a jump to make to make Derek family . . . so there is the possibility she'd be completely alone if she goes toward Derek and then Derek "won't breathe" for her. She's never had anyone stay before. She figures out about the George-Izzie-Callie of it all and owes a loyalty to them all and can't be there for them all. Cris needs her after Burke leaves Cris, but Meredith comes to the realization at the same time that she has to make things right with Derek. If George has told Izzie it's all off, then we get a MerDer commitment.* *If George and Izzie stay as they are, fighting the feelings, then we leave Meredith and Derek on the cliff . . . with Meredith having decided to do what it takes for Derek, but Derek not knowing that when the SF ends. An unknown for me is how Derek and the injured hikers and his learning that one of the hikers may have intentionally injured the others plays. It's clearly a metaphor. We are pretty sure it's about the interns. OH . . .what if Derek comes to understand he can't make Meredith choose between the interns and him - that she can bring them along too? We'll know a bit more about this after tomorrow. That's the best I can do right now. I haven't incorporated a specific Derek injury - but if they are on the cliff, an injury could be part of it. I think George and Callie decide to try to get pregnant. Callie sees it as something she has that Izzie can't. George sees it as a way to commit to Callie. We all know it won't be that simple and the triangle will continue at least emotionally into next season. I think Derek's face is not so much directed at Meredith but the situation. I mean, if Meredith is facing the congregation SO NOT GOOD! Are you saying you think that's how the season ends for them? As much as I want some version of TTTMNBN or a housing decision, I just think they have to be a big part of the cliff. I also really, really wonder if we aren't stopping mid wedding - or when Cris is supposed to walk in - or when Burke is supposed to walk in - and that's the cliff - where is so and so??? And we don't know if they get married. And even if there is storming out, we don't know if Derek and Meredith are still up front and the guests are still in their seats . . . . The promo and all the reaction to it reminds me so much of the pregnancy one. How many articles were there saying that Mer might be pregnant? this panicking thing we're doing right now...tht's where we're supposed to be. I think it's pretty clear that the fact we know NOTHING about Mer/Der in the finale makes it pretty clear that something big is going to happen. Either good or bad. Now right at this moment everything is pointing towards bad....which makes me think it's going to be good. Because we always get plot twists. I do think they are going to be fine. I think tomorrow night we'll be shaking our fists at God...but it will be okay. And I don't know about everyone else...but those pics strangely make me feel hopeful. I don't know why. This is what I think is more likely than not to happen. That means 50.1% when rounded off to the nearest thing I feel like typing :) If George says to Izzie - No. I cannot be around you. I cannot do this, then the old Karma Wheel plus S2 parallels make things look AWESOME for MerDer. If George and Izzie are still fighting the feelings, then Mer and Der are still in some level of uncertainty. I personally go for the wheel spin as good for MerDer myself (once I got over the false McBarSlut post). Not necessarily TTTMNBN, but a decision to go forward. I agree that the absence of info lends itself to a big MerDer finish. But the podcasts and blogs have been awful . . . Did you see the cool McDreamysFan post a thread ago about this being a completion of the Guy in Bar hiding his pain arc? And this time Derek deals with the pain. I love that - and it would be an arc from 3.1 to 3.25 - A very Shonda thing to do.
