I guess it works. Her next movie is all about how she’s so uptight and easily offended by everything men do that she can’t get them to date her. She probably should just give it up and go lesbian or drown herself in cats, but in the new trailer for The Ugly Truth she takes door number three and puts herself in the hands of Gerard Butler. Butler plays a plainspoken, man’s man who says what he wants and does what he wants, women be damned. Heigl hates his honesty, but puts up with it long enough for him to play Cyrano and tell her what to say on dates. It's my firm belief that every time Katherine Heigl does a movie, GLAD gains a dozen new member. She clenches her buttocks, acts offended and whines about men not behaving as she wants them to, and a dozen hetero dudes instantly switch teams. A wedding will take place on the ABC drama. However, creator Shonda Rhimes won't reveal if it will actually be Meredith and Derek tying the knot, reports USA TODAY's Bill Keveney. Hmmmm.... Rhimes and her cast, writers and crew took a break from filming to gather on Grey's Los Angeles set Friday and cut a cake celebrating the 100th, which will air May 7. Rhimes says she hadn't been focusing on the milestone, when "suddenly we were hitting 100, which feels kind of amazing and very fast." She says she thinks she could do 100 more. As for persistent rumors that Heigl and colleague T.R. Knight, who plays George, could be leaving the show, Rhimes says, "As far as I know, when we go out this season, everybody's still going to be around." And Heigl, asked if she wanted to leave or would leave, says, "No. I signed the same contract everybody else" did. She says she loves Izzie's cancer storyline and doesn't know if the character will live or die. "It's very weird. Set up at Lionsgate, "Five Killers" is directed by Robert Luketic, who directed Heigl in this summer's romantic comedy "The Ugly Truth." According to Variety, the picture focuses on a newly married couple who discovers their neighbors are assassins hired to kill them. Shooting on "Five Killers" begins next month in the compatible locations of Atlanta and the south of France. By that time, Heigl either will or won't have exited her ABC drama "Grey's Anatomy" for good. Earlier this month "Grey's" co-star James Pickens Jr. told a reporter that Heigl and T.R. Knight were both leaving the medical drama. "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes subsequently told reporters that rumors of Heigl's departure were, at the very least, premature. So who knows? She stars in ABC's Grey's Anatomy. 2. She's not afraid to speak up if she thinks the show's writers have screwed up. 3. She'll never let you hear the end of it if you pronounce her name wrong, and she'll hunt you down like a dog. Now there's a fourth thing I know about Heigl: she's the fifth highest paid actress in Hollywood. Now please note that I don't mean she's the fifth highest paid actress just on television, I mean she's the fifth highest in general. With her $13 million, she comes in behind Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, and Cameron Diaz. I'm amazed that Diaz is on such a list, but I'm even more amazed that Heigl is right behind her. What exactly is this based on, besides Grey's Anatomy and Knocked Up? I want her agent. I wonder if this is accurate though. I mean, she gets $13 million for one season of a TV show and those other stars get anywhere between $10 million and $20 million a movie, and sometimes do more than one movie a year. After seeing the hit show's other characters ride a perpetual merry-go-round of hookups, breakups and makeup sex, Heigl went to her boss, show creator Shonda Rhimes. "I said, 'Why doesn't Izzie get any action?' "She said, 'Izzie doesn't sleep around,'" Heigl says. "The writers incorporate a lot of our own personalities into the characters. I cook, I bake, I knit. Izzie's the super moral version of me." As the heart and soul of this increasingly sex-filled series, Heigl has to take the high road - because nobody else on the show knows where it is. Almost midway through the show's third season, Izzie has now become the show's heroine. It used to be Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), queen of the romantic dilemmas. But lately, she's been a little dopey, what with the endless McDreamy soliloquies. Then Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) was in the spotlight, when it was revealed that she had a heart under her cutthroat exterior. As they go on the back burner, Izzie is a welcome, calming presence, despite the devastation she experienced when she failed to save her patient and fiance Denny Duquette. After nearly derailing her career by violating hospital rules with regard to his care, Izzie, said Heigl, was not cut out to be a doctor. But the writers on "Grey's Anatomy" clearly disagreed and gave the character a second chance. "At the beginning of the season they were trying to show how lost Izzie was," says Heigl. "She lost her optimism. She realizes now that life is difficult, but she still tries very hard to see the best in people." Besides the formidable Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Izzie seems to be the only adult intern at Seattle Grace; the character has achieved a depth lacking in her fellow interns. "Denny's death matured Izzie in a very sobering way," says Betsy Beers, the show's supervising executive producer. "She's marked for life." When Izzie is feeling more confident, Heigl hopes she will eventually Izzie have a relationship with Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). "I believe on some level, there's a connection between Izzie and Alex," she says. "He can do honorable things even though he's cutting and sarcastic. I would like to ultimately see them together, if not this season, then next. Initially, she was trying to change him too much." Despite all of Izzie's tragedies, Heigl is relishing her moment in the sun and the show's incredible popularity. "It's so satisfying. It sucks being on a show that no one watches," she says. "The roles for women are really great on television and they really don't have that in film. Noticing there were tons of paps outside of the bar, I knew someone was either on their way or already inside. Sure enough, outside I hear a really familiar laugh in the smoking (cough cough) area... and it was Katherine Heigl from Knocked Up, 27 dresses, and... the ever so controversial, Grey's Anatomy. She was outside with some friends and her husband Josh Kelley, who was incredibly nice and thankful that I knew who he was!! They were having QUITE A FEW drinks and chain smoking. She was crackin' jokes and laughing even harder at them than anyone else. When I asked her for a picture she said "oh my god of course! " Then when we were posing for the picture she turns around and faces me dead on and starts ranting about how small my nose ring is. By this time, the paps were going nuts and we just kept laughing, then she continued to laugh about how she wishes she could get a small little nose ring but they wouldn't let her have it on Grey's. I then thought it was perfect timing to ask her about the infamous rumor of whether or not she is leaving the show with T.R. Knight. She said "Nope, I am still on the show for now, at least another season!!!! So you better watch it." I laughed and said "Of course!!" So there you go. Heigl, attending a studio party to mark the ABC medical drama's 100th episode, said it's premature to think her days as Dr. Izzie Stevens are numbered. "I was assuming that at one point and I got a lot of shrugged shoulders and shakes of the head, so I don't know if that's a yes or a no. No one will tell me and I don't know how this is going to go," Heigl said, noting series creator Shonda Rhimes' passion for plot secrecy. "I don't know if I live or die. I don't know how Izzie fares," said the actress, who's played the character since the show debuted in 2005. "I'm there" if Izzie remains part of "Grey's Anatomy," Heigl said. She called the set "one of my favorite places to be" and said her colleagues are also friends. She and fellow cast members, including Ellen Pompeo (Dr. Meredith Grey) and Patrick Dempsey (Dr. Derek Shepherd), were on hand for the celebration that included a cake decorated with scalpels and syringes made out of icing. Rhimes, who's also an executive producer for the show, called the milestone a "huge accomplishment" and thanked the cast and crew for their efforts. In an interview, she dropped a tantalizing clue about the episode airing May 7. "The only thing I'll tell you about the 100th is that it takes place on Meredith and Derek's wedding day," Rhimes said. "That's big ... and that's all I'm going to say." On Thursday's episode, Izzie was seen surviving brain surgery. There's been speculation that Heigl wants to pursue her blossoming film career ("Knocked Up," the upcoming "The Ugly Truth") full-time, and that her character might be killed off. Rhimes declined comment on what would happen to Heigl's character. Last month, fellow cast member James Pickens Jr. said Heigl was leaving the show, along with T.R. Knight, both of whom declined comment at the time. Knight missed the studio party because he'd previously scheduled the day off, an ABC spokeswoman said. On Friday, Heigl said she's comfortable balancing movies and TV by working on big-screen projects during the summer hiatus for "Grey's Anatomy." "I'm more than happy to make that compromise. As my agent likes to say, 'High-class problems,'" Heigl said. "I don't know if I want to continue for five years working 12 months a year, but I can take at least another year or two," she said.
