RECAPS & REVIEWS & RATINGS TV Guide Editors' Blogs - Matt Roush - Fri, Sep 28, 2007 Thursday-night TV: It's Back! As for Grey’s Anatomy: Shonda Rhimes promised things would lighten up, and while there was still plenty of emotion and heightened melodrama, and the usual quota of aggravating eye-rolling moments, the tone (which matters most to me) was back to the scintillating laugh-one-minute, cry-the-next form of entertainment we’ve come to expect. Watching Cristina snarl at the new interns was a joy. Same goes for Bailey refusing to let the Chief off the hook for not naming her chief resident, instead making Callie’s first day on the job a living hell of insecurity and humiliation. As for poor, bitter, frustrated George, who's repeating his year as an intern: Watching Lexie Grey remind him how awesome he is was pure Grey’s magic. .......cont’d after the jump! http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...ht-Tv/800023262 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- E Online Korbi’s Quickie - Ghosh on Fri, Sep 28, 2007 Fri., 9/28: An Office Romance Rocks Our World, Betty Makes Us Bawl, Grey's Gets Off to Good Start Grey's Anatomy: As someone who has been kind of hard on Grey's in the past, I have to admit I quite enjoyed last night's episode. I actually shed a tear for Cristina and Burke's failed relationship—which is weird, 'cause I had no idea I cared. Oh, and the McDreamy-McSteamy scene? Priceless. Look forward to those two hanging out this season. The show's in need of some male bonding. Also, I think the addition of Chyler Leigh to the cast of regulars is going to be a really good thing. It just provides another facet of Meredith's bruised psyche we can start to explore. Plus, Chyler's cute, and I was so pissed when Fox canceled Reunion. http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/korb...0c-a9fe3515352c ----------------------------------------------------------------------- McDreamy Defends Meredith on Greys - Sep 27, 2007 A friend in need: When he wasn’t busy trying to find someone to have a drink with him, or re-attaching a guy’s skull to his spine, McDreamy was vehemently defending Meredith in a speech that might have been directed as much toward the audience as it was to McSteamy, who flippantly said Meredith is “damaged.” “She panics,” McDreamy said. “She wants this, (but) she doesn’t know how to have it, and you know what? That’s not her fault. So don’t you ever talk to me about Meredith Grey again, because you do not know what you’re talking about.” Take that, Meredith-haters! ........cont’d after the jump! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14484204/?pg=2...ysAnatomy_CHART ----------------------------------------------------------------------- McDreamy Defends Meredith on Greys - Sep 27, 2007 A friend in need: When he wasn’t busy trying to find someone to have a drink with him, or re-attaching a guy’s skull to his spine, McDreamy was vehemently defending Meredith in a speech that might have been directed as much toward the audience as it was to McSteamy, who flippantly said Meredith is “damaged.” “She panics,” McDreamy said. “She wants this, (but) she doesn’t know how to have it, and you know what? Just take one look at the characters of "Grey’s Anatomy" assembled in the season premiere, all fresh and familiar in their lab coats with the irritated hopelessness of last season melted away. After months of fallout from Isaiah Washington’s dismissal and Kate Walsh’s spinoff, after Patrick Dempsey’s twins and Katherine Heigl's Emmy, it was nice to get back to business. This year will be different, we tell ourselves with the hopeful conviction of fifth-graders. Even the voice-over didn’t seem so bothersome, maybe because it seemed to be speaking to us about the show as much as anything else. Change, we were told, is difficult but necessary, though sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same. Perhaps not the most earthshaking news around, but for a season premiere with not one but three important characters MIA (Washington’s Dr. Burke, Walsh’s Dr. Addison and Kate Burton as Meredith’s mother), it was reassuring nonetheless.......cont’d http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracke...-anatomy-g.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Grey's Anatomy: Episode 4.1 "A Change is Gonna Come" Recap - September 27, 2007 http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anat...-cha-11638.aspx Grey's Anatomy: A Change is Gonna Come (season premiere) - Posted Sep 27th 2007 http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/09/27/greys-an...eason-premiere/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV Guide Show Blog – Adjust Your Expectations - Episode Recap: "A Change is Gonna Come" (Sept. 27, 2007) http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...tions/800023218 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday ratings: Grey's Anatomy rules, Office gets best numbers ever - Posted Sep 28th 2007 The first big Thursday ratings battle was won by Grey's Anatomy, but CBS won overall for the night with their lineup of Survivor: China and the season premieres of CSI and Without A Trace. ABC was a close second, even though Ugly Betty was down 20% from it's premiere last season. After Betty, the network had the season premiere of Grey's and the series premiere of Big Shots. Grey's was down 20% from last season too, but still won the time slot. Big Shots won the 10pm race, though it lost viewers halfway through to Without A Trace and and ER. That season premiere of ER, along with the season premieres of My Name Is Earl and The Office (both one-hour episodes) got NBC into third place. The Office numbers were the show's best in the 18-49 demographic and the best numbers for NBC at 9pm in quite some time. FOX was fourth with new eps of Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader and Don't Forget The Lyrics. The CW was fourth with the season premiere of Smallville a repeat of Reaper. http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/09/28/thursday...s-best-numbers/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION September 28, 2007 Quick Take for Thursday, September 27, 2007 (Based on Live + Same Day Fast Affiliate Ratings) ABC Dominates the Opening Thursday in Adults 18-34 and Key Women With its Best Viewer and Young Adult Numbers Since February, “Ugly Betty” Opens its Second Season a Strong No. 1 in its Time Slot Among Adults 18-34 In its Fourth Season Premiere, ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” Opens as Thursday’s No. 1 TV Show in Adults 18-49 and as TV’s Top-Rated Premiere So Far This Season Thursday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.) ABC dominated the opening Thursday of the season among Adults 18-34 (5.8/16) and across all key women demographics: W18-34 (8.7/22), W18-49 (8.2/20) and W25-54 (8.7/19). The Net finished in a near-tie for first place with CBS in Adults 18-49, pacing within one-tenth of a rating point and tied in audience share (5.7/15 vs. 5.8/15). “Grey’s Anatomy” (9:00-10:00 p.m.) Thursday’s No. 1 TV program in Adults 18-49 and the highest-rated show to premiere this season,ABC's season opener of “Grey's Anatomy” beat second-place CBS' “C.S.I.” by 9% in the key sales demo (8.7/21 vs. 8.0/19). “Grey's” advantage over “C.S.I.” in Adults 18-34 stood at substantial 43% (9.0/23 vs. 6.3/16). “Grey’s” drew an average audience of 20.5 million viewers, qualifying as the second-most-watched show for the evening, after “C.S.I.” • “Grey's Anatomy” garnered it highest ratings since March in Adults 18-34 (9.0/23) and Women 18-34 (13.4/30) – since 3/22/07. A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has more than doubled from 8.54% during premiere week 2006 up to 19.43% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
