Grey's Anatomy: Episode 4.6 "Kung Fu Fighting" - Thursday, November 01, 2007
Last week on Grey's Anatomy, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) doesn't want to die emotionally crippled and alone, Hahn (Brooke Smith) is the new head of cardiothoracic surgery, Richard (James Pickens) is getting a divorce, Meredith is commitment phobic.

Tonight's Grey's Anatomy begins with Meredith telling Cristina (Sandra Oh) that she can't sleep without nightmares and panic attacks. Cristina looks up in a psych book that she has severe abandonment issues, and suggests not having breakup sex with Derek (Patrick Dempsey). Meredith knows that the more Derek makes himself available, the more she pulls away, but she makes a sex date in the call room with him later that day anyway.
Richard, who is now crashing at Derek's trailer in the wilderness, is whiny about eating trout for breakfast. He suggests to Derek that they have a "gentleman's evening" to take their mind off of their lady troubles. This worries Derek, who is not familiar with the term "gentleman's evening," so he invites McSteamy (Eric Dane) along as backup. Naturally, McSteamy hopes that it will be a night of strippers. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) agrees that the first things she thinks of when she hears "gentleman's evening" are shiny, sequined tassels and one dollar bills......cont’d

'Grey's Anatomy': Monopoly is a gentleman's game - November 01, 07:52 PM
Tonight on Grey's Anatomy, we covered "severe abandonment issues," wedding dresses, sexism in the workplace, near-death experiences, woodpeckers, and sex. So pretty much just another night at Seattle Grace. Overall? Pretty good stuff. I took issue with a couple cheesy speeches, and Shonda may have tried to cram a bit too much in (which is why we aren't really getting into the patients of the week here), but Dr. Hahn's awesomeness and Callie's impending awesomeness (I can feel it coming, you guys) more than make up for all of that. (Spoilers ahead...)

First: Dr. Hahn. I need to begin by saying that halfway through tonight's episode I finally, FINALLY realized where I know that actress from. Silence of the Lambs! She's the "it" in "It puts the lotion on its skin"! Which ups her coolness factor by, like, a thousand, since that's one of my favorite movies. And also a completely classic moment in pop culture....cont’d

Grey's Anatomy: Kung Fu Fighting - Posted Nov 2nd 2007
(S04E06) "Are you two... a couple?" - Hahn

I think we might have finally reached a turning point for Grey's Anatomy. This wasn't the best episode, but it set up a lot of things that I think the show desperately needed. The most noticeable difference? The addition of Dr. Hahn. She's added a fresh voice to the Seattle Grace staff and her presence has given life to a simmering feud between Cristina and Izzie which I can't wait to see unfold. We saw some great development from the ongoing saga that is Derek and Meredith, Lexie became more than just "the other Grey," and George and Izzie finally hit a roadblock.

''Grey's Anatomy'': Mal de Mer - Nov 02, 2007
Our title heroine once again bores us with her near-death experience, her daddy issues, and her inability to commit to Derek; plus, Izzie plans perfect sex with George - Apparently, one episode was not enough to contain Meredith's crap, so we had to do Mer's-a-Mess redux this week. Granted, Cristina did diagnose her with ''severe abandonment issues'' within the first five minutes — I love that it took her this long to figure that out, and she still needed to consult a book, but whatever. I guess that warrants a whole second hour devoted to us feeling bad for Meredith. But let me speak on behalf of all fans and say: Honestly, we got it now. Please, let's move on.

Meredith wasn't the only one moping, though: Her sometime Prince Charming was up fishing at the crack of dawn to drown his sorrows. ........ cont’d

Grey’s Gossip - (November 2st, 2007)
Died, and gone to hell: Meredith helped treat a skydiver who fell 12,000 feet and survived. He cheated death, just like she did! Get it? The doctors watched his freefall on tape and heard him proclaiming his love for his instructor, something he was too cowardly to tell her. Meredith told him he should tell his instructor how he feels because his sense of invincibility would soon go away and he’d again become the coward he was before. Just like she is! Get it?

TV GUIDE

A Gentleman's Evening
Episode Recap: "Kung Fu Fighting" (November 1st, 2007)
Well, tonight wasn't exactly the evening I had anticipated at Seattle Grace, but it was still a fun night. The highlight of which, was every scene shared by Derek and Mark, as they tried to decipher what the Chief meant by "a gentleman's evening." It did sound dirty and with three eligible bachelors in attendance, it certainly had the potential to involve tassels. So, I can't help but wonder how it might have ended up, if Dr. Hahn had not crashed the party. ..................cont’d

TV FODDER

"Grey's Anatomy" Episode Recap -- "Kung Fu Fighting” - November 1, 2007
“There’s this thing about being a surgeon . . . a true surgeon never admits they need help unless absolutely necessary.”
—Meredith Grey

And so the scene is set for “Kung Fu Fighting.”

This eppie opens with Callie asleep on Christina’s couch and Meredith and Christina psychoanalyzing Mer in the bedroom. Christina actually suggests to Mer she stop having break-up sex with Derek. They look at each other with the ol’ “as if” look. Mer admits that the more available Derek becomes, the more she moves away.

'Grey's Anatomy': A reason to believe again - Nov 2, 2007
Greys_2 Just when you think you're out, they pull you back in. Brooke Smith! How I love Brooke Smith. And it's been a big season for her, with guest appearances on "Weeds" and too briefly, "Dirty Sexy Money." But now she has found a home and one in which she can do so much good. "Grey's Anatomy" remains a big hit, but fans are still waiting for the change they were promised after the dismal third season. And this, ladies and gentleman, might just be it.

Indeed, from the moment two seasons ago when her Erica Hahn faced off with Isaiah Washington's Preston Burke I have nursed a secret hope that Burke would be out and Hahn would be in, and look. All those years of saying the beads have paid off. She breezed in last week like a desperately needed bracing breath of fresh air, cutting through all the Seattle Grace baloney like a woman who actually knows how to wield a scalpel.

THE TV ADDICT

Channel Surfing with C.T. - November 4th, 2007
I’m happy to report that GREY’S ANATOMY renaissance continues. I’ll admit to never having been a huge Kathrine Heigl fan before this show. I always found her the weak link in the ROSWELL cast. But man, did she rock that fantastic monologue in which Izzy begged off sex with George because she was too tired. It was also another episode filled with great quotes, most of them — as usual — coming from Christina. “Being aware of your crap and actually overcoming your crap are two very different this,” she told Meredith in what may be the truest words ever spoken. And if I didn’t already love Dr. Hahn, I’d have been a goner for sure when she dubbed Derek and Mark “pretty and prettier.”
