RECAPS & REVIEWS & RATINGS BUDDYTV Grey's Anatomy: Episode 4.11, "Lay Your Hands On Me" Reader Reaction - Monday, January 14, 2008 Last Thursday, we were given the last new episode of Grey's Anatomy for quite some time and the cries of fans could be heard from here to Seattle Grace. The Writers Guild of America is making demands that are fair and just but isn't it starting to get to the point where we just wish that one side would cave and give in? ................read on http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anat...ode-411-lay-156 Grey's Anatomy: Episode 4.11 "Lay Your Hands on Me" Recap - Thursday, January 10, 2008 Previously on Grey's Anatomy: Bailey would rather save the life of a neo-Nazi than be with her family, Lexie put Meredith in her place again, Gizzie realized they're better friends than lovers, and McDreamy got the urge to merge with Rose........... read on http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anat...-lay-15565.aspx ----------------------------------------------------------------------- EW.COM EW - TV Watch - Jan 10, 2008 ''Grey's Anatomy'': Worst Case Scenario Bailey's marriage reaches the breaking point when a bookshelf falls on her toddler son; plus, George's mother learns about his adultery, and Derek woos Meredith with a house This week on Grey's Anatomy, we learned all about faith — in, yes, slightly heavy-handed but still entertaining fashion. In fact, maybe it's just that this was the last pre-strike-drought episode, but it got me thinking about my faith in this show, which I still have despite all the grumbling throughout the past two seasons. ........................cont’d http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20170625,00.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- FANGASM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LA TIMES ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MSNBC MSNBC - Grey’s Gossip, Weekly udate MSNBC - Grey’s Gossip, Weekly udate - Jan. 12,2008 The end: McDreamy was looking for the perfect life, complete with a custom-built house on a hill. And he wanted Meredith to move into it with him. Nurse Rose wanted him to take her out to dinner, but he said he has to "see it through" with Meredith, and she was totally cool about it and said she wants to maintain the great professional relationship they had when he didn't even know her name. But George overheard that conversation. A blowup with Meredith later ended with McDreamy telling her he "just can't do it anymore." Then, in a move that won't win him many fans, he asked Rose out that night. The "death" of Meredith and Derek? I guess that's as good a place as any. I'm no McDreamy fan, but I can't see how those who are could remain enamored of him. How could someone act so entitled and arrogant when he's caught having kissed someone? And how can he be like, "You'll always find reasons not to trust me." Maybe if you don't go macking on co-workers and hiding the fact that you're married, she wouldn't have those reasons........read on http://tvfilter.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns&#...#33;24230.entry ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV GUIDE Ask Matt - Friday, January 18, 2008 Question: Loved your response to the recent comment about Grey's Anatomy. I (and I'd guess many) completely agree with your assessment. My concern is with how much the Powers That Be (TPTB) pay attention to the Internet messages boards. I know that some who post in one Mer/Der thread I read constantly speak for the "fans" like they mean all fans, but that's not true. Many people like Derek and do not need medication to watch. I worry that TPTB may pay attention to the obsessive 'shippers and modify storylines based on a small percentage of the fan base. Please tell me this is not the case! Personally, I want to see stories that are planned, not dictated by a small group of obsessed fans.— Betty Matt Roush: If Grey's Anatomy were being controlled by the more vocal critics of its Internet "fan" base, do you think the George and Izzie storyline would have kept going as long as it did? I don't think so. By its very nature, Grey's is going to aggravate fans and critics in how it manipulates its characters in and out of relationships. Some work, some don't, but the show has to keep breaking stories (when it's actually in production) or these very same fans will likely gripe about how boring it's become. That's the downside of being a long-running hit. Question: 1) I was surprised by your encouraging piece on Grey's Anatomy's last episode. Even though I was moved by Bailey and Derek's scene (and good performances by both actors), I was majorly disappointed by Bailey's voiceover. The tone was way overdone and forced, and the script... was so bad I wondered if the writers were already striking. While I'm losing much interest in the "older" characters (save for Cristina — I just wish she'd gotten a real storyline this season, and Alex, who I'd always thought was an interesting guy), I now look to the secondary characters (Dr. Hahn, who's been a wonderful addition to the cast; Callie, who I also wish could have a real storyline; and even Sloan, who I thought had been boring previously) to entertain me. Is it just me, or are the primary players getting a tiny bit stale? 2) Friday Night Lights! When do we get to see Landry and Matt as BFFs again? That's been sorely missing this season. Not to mention all the male bonding that's been going on between the (ex-)Panthers. As much as I love this show and will continue to support it, I do get a bit worried because all the storylines this season seem so much more "scattered" and unorganized, not to mention a bit over-the-top soap opera/teen drama'ish at times (I don't think I need to mention which storylines I'm describing). 3) Can I ask if that's your real youth picture in the "Who Shot Ausiello?" vodcast? What a good sport!— Belly Matt Roush: 1) Regarding Grey's: Familiarity breeds contempt. I can think of few truer clichés. Your surprise that I could find something nice to say about Grey's Anatomy is one of the most discouraging things I've read in weeks. 2) If you remember high school the way I do, it's hardly uncommon for even close friends to drift apart, especially when you get caught up in your own life (rarely as eventful as what happened to Landry this season). The "scattered" nature of the show feels a lot like life to me. The moment someone gripes to me that Smash is being underused, he takes center stage. I imagine (hope) we'll be getting some juicy Saracen stories again soon, even if Landry isn't a part of them. 3) Being a good sport had nothing to do with that photo surfacing in the opening credits of "Who Shot Ausiello?" I was as surprised (and, eventually, amused) as anyone. Mike's producers had to dig pretty deep in the photo archive to come up with that one — which dates back to my first job out of college, at a Florida newspaper, where I eventually had to grow facial hair to be treated like a grownup. (Those were the days.) I haven't yet figured out how to properly "thank" my online buddies for resurrecting that photo. http://www.tvguide.com/ask-matt Roush on Grey's Anatomy - Monday, January 14, 2008 Question : Given the fact that Grey's Anatomy is going to end with another downer/cliffhanger season where most of the characters are in crisis and the key relationship of Mer/Der is again at a painful halt, and given the apathy and anger over t the lack of substantial changes that were promised for Season 4 (after the wreckage of last season), do you think the writers' strike will have a big impact on fans wanting to invest again in this show come Season 5? Or from what you are hearing, do you think fans have finally hit their limit with some of the contrived storylines, the bloated cast and the gimmicks that have been used repeatedly in the past couple of seasons to move this once promising show forward? Ratings did slip this year, and the repeats barely hold up against the other networks. I'm feeling the show has hit a wall that it may not bounce back from. Do you agree?— Jamie E. Matt Roush: Since I tend to hear more from people with complaints than compliments, which is the nature of the Web world, I could be fooled into thinking that Grey's Anatomy is seriously on the decline. Which it isn't. Is it perfect? No. Has it improved from last season? Yes. This is a show about messed-up people who make lots of mistakes, both personally and professionally, many of which aggravate fans, which I understand. And last season unquestionably shifted the balance from romantic tragicomedy to an overload of unpleasant angst. But most of these characters are still incredibly appealing and played by genuine stars, and I still find myself caring what happens to them more often than not, especially in recent weeks. I'm pretty sure that after the long drought that's facing us in the uncertain months ahead, when Grey's Anatomy eventually returns, it will be welcomed back enthusiastically. And you can't blame the show for ending its season where it ended last Thursday. It was only halfway through the run when the strike halted things. A little perspective, please. http://www.tvguide.com/Ask-Matt/grey-anatomy/080114-04 Roush Dispatch - Jan 11, 2008 Strike Watch: Separation Anxiety on Thursday Night Around the time Bailey got a big hug from McDreamy, comforting her in her hour of need, my heart began to break. Not so much for Bailey—I felt for her, but figured her little boy would be OK—but for fans of Thursday night TV, who were enjoying their last “normal” night of mostly original programming for the foreseeable future. ........................ But back to the goodbyes. A superior and highly emotional episode of Grey’s, narrated this week by Bailey (the always awesome Chandra Wilson), was all about faith, embodied by a mystical healer (Glenne Headley) with a serious heart condition, risking her own life to lay her hands on others. She and her posse could read auras pretty well, including the dark one hovering around Alex. “What happened to you?” she wondered. (We’d all like to know.) “You were a good, sweet boy, but you’re not a very good man.” He’d be the first to agree. And how chivalrous of Alex to put Izzy in these seers’ cross-hairs, the better to buck up her confidence in her own gifts. Scratch Alex’s surface, and there’s still a good boy in there somewhere..........more http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...ation/800030700 Episode Recap: "Lay Your Hands on Me" - 01/10/08 After a long absence, Grey's Anatomy returned tonight with what could be the last glimpse we have at Seattle Grace for a while...and they did not disappoint. .......read some more http://community.tvguide.com/blog/TV-Show-...atomy/800056058 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV SQUAD Grey's Anatomy: Lay Your Hands On Me - Jan 10th 2008 (S04E11) "Call me when she codes." - Hahn The power of healing. Does it work? Perhaps. I think it went a little too far when everyone who "the healing lady" touched got better, but I prefer to play the skeptic and Hahn's line did it for me. And wow, it's been a month since the last new Grey's. Which was only emphasized by the fact that tonight's installment picked up the morning after the last episode left off, leaving me scrambling to remember what, exactly, had happened the day before. ........cont'd http://blog.zap2it.com/ithappenedlastnight...-anatomy-g.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Grey's Anatomy Rundown: Episode 11, "Lay Your Hands On Me" - Jan. 11, 2008 If Grey's Anatomy was going to go out early this season because of the writers' strike, at least it went out with a strong episode.
