Sides for episode 5.16 are out and it's just for one character. Mr. Terzian (50's)- He's awake after having surgery. Dr. Smith is there and Dr. Walters is examining his leg. Dr. Walters says they'll get him an X-ray and he'll probably need a cast but he should be up on his feet in a few weeks. Mr. Terzian says he doesn't know what he was thinking because he knew the wound wasn't healing as fast he hoped. Dr. Smith explains that sometimes that happens when they don't do the surgery laparoscopically but with the technique they used they were able to move around and see more. Mr. Terzian doesn't doubt that they did the right thing. Dr. Smith says they're going to treat the infection with antibiotics. Next scene is in Mr. Terzian's room and Dr. Vernon is talking to him while Dr. Smith stands off to the side. Dr. Vernon explains that the scans showed a complication from the surgery (a lacerated bile duct and vessel) and he'll need another surgery to it. Mr. T is overjoyed that that's the only thing wrong with him because he thought he was dying when he was told the Head of General Surgery was coming to talk to him. Dr. Vernon says he just wanted Mr. T to know he's within his right to request a new surgeon. Mr. T asks if Dr. Smith isn't available and Dr. Vernon says she is. He says Dr. Smith saw him through his first round of appointments and surgery, that she saved his life so he chooses her. Dr Vernon must be Richard (Chief of Surgery). Maybe Callie (ortho) is involved. It seems a strange case - he has a fractured leg that requires as cast but he has also had recent keyhole surgery for abdominal problem e.g. gall bladder. I wonder, if he had the operation on this gall bladder, was discharged and became unwell due to an post-op infection, had a fall and then was readmitted with a broken leg as well as his post-op complications?
