DATES TO REMEMBER & OTHER STUFF

'Eli Stone' Actress Gets 'Mad' at NBC - Feb 6, 2009
Loretta Devine joins David E. Kelley pilot
Loretta Devine could be starring in a legal drama next fall -- just not the one she starred in this fall.
Devine, who's coming off "Eli Stone" at ABC, has joined the cast of David E. Kelley's pilot "Legally Mad" at NBC, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Her casting continues a long relationship she's had with Kelley; she was a regular on "Boston Public" and made guest appearances on "Ally McBeal," "Boston Legal" and "Picket Fences."
"Legally Mad" is about a young lawyer (British actress Charity Wakefield) who spurns bigger offers to join the band of eccentrics at her father's (Hugh Bonneville) firm. Devine will play one of them, an attorney who's seemingly always on the brink of a breakdown.
The cast also includes Kristin Chenoweth and Jon Seda.
Devine is the first "Eli Stone" regular to take another TV job following the show's demise. ABC still has a handful of unaired episodes in its pocket but hasn't said if or when they will air.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan In For The Resident - 30 January 2009
Jeffrey Dean Morgan did say he wanted to play dirty after his stint as aaah-so-cuddly Denny Duquette in Grey's Anatomy, and boy, has his agent delivered, with Morgan signed on to play another sociopath in Hammer Films' psych-thriller The Resident, to follow his turn as The Comedian in You-Know-What.
Morgan will play the seemingly charming Brooklyn landlord of Hilary Swank's doctor. But before you can say 'Pacific Heights', his character turns out to be a bit crackers, subjecting the young doctor to a terrifying game of cat and mouse.
The Resident reunites Swank and Morgan after grievous 2007 rom-com turkey P.S. I Love You, and the results should be more auspicious this time out, with Morgan bringing some of that Comedian misanthropy and Swank back on more familiar territory.
Filming is due to start in May, with ex-music video director Antti J. Jokinen making his feature debut behind the camera.

ABC greenlights three pilots Jan 27, 2009
Including one from 'Grey's Anatomy's' Shonda Rhimes
BC on Tuesday greenlighted three drama pilots from ABC Studios, including one exec produced by "Grey's Anatomy" creator/exec producer Shonda Rhimes.
That project, "Inside the Box," was joined on the pilot roster by "I, Claudia" and an untitled project based on the Argentinian drama "Brothers & Detectives."
"Inside the Box," written by Richard E. Robbins, is set in a Washington network news bureau and centers on an ambitious female news producer and her colleagues.
Robbins is exec producing with Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
Rhimes had been interested in the world of journalism as a setting for a show. She developed a project about a group of female journalists, which was picked up to pilot in 2006 but was ultimately shelved when Rhimes got busy with "Grey's" and its spinoff, "Private Practice."
Despite its throwback-to-ancient-Rome name, "I, Claudia" is a contemporary drama from writer John Scott Shepherd. The project centers on Claudia McIntire, a young prosecuting attorney who doesn't know that one day she is going to be a serious contender for the presidency of the U.S.
Shepherd ("The Days") penned the script for the pilot, which he is exec producing with Matt Gross.

ABC already put a woman in the Oval Office with Rod Lurie's 2005 drama "Commander in Chief," which starred Geena Davis as the first female U.S. president.
The untitled "Brothers & Detectives" adaptation, written and exec produced by Daniel Cerone, is about a low-level detective who, after the death of his estranged father, discovers he has a brilliant 11-year-old brother who is adept at helping him solve crimes.
