RECAPS & REVIEWS & RATINGS BUDDYTV Grey's Anatomy: Episode 5.9 "In the Midnight Hour" Recap (Page 1/4) - November 20, 2008 Grey's Anatomy starts with the Seattle skyline at night. I guess it's all about nighttime and monsters tonight. We see flashes of scenes which I am presuming will end the episode. But anyway, let's start from the beginning. It's the same night as it was in last week's episode of Grey's Anatomy. Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) just kissed, which is making her freak out and think she's going crazy. Well, um, yeah, she kind of is. Denny suggests that they test her sanity by going all the way to home base, which they never got to do while he was alive. He takes his shirt off, as I swoon. Cristina (Sandra Oh) goes to the hospital in the middle of the night because she heard that there might be a possible appendectomy. The first solo surgery is often an appy, so she's just trying to get a leg up on the competition. It's pouring out, in a very un-Seattle way. Seattle rains are usually very well-mannered. It's more mist than rain, you know. But anyway, Cristina runs into Major McHottie (Kevin McKidd) outside the hospital who awkwardly tries to make small talk or, you know, at least acknowledge their major kiss from last week's Grey's Anatomy, but he can't. Cristina doesn't have time for his waffling and breezes right past him.......cont’d http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anatomy/greys-anatomy-episode-59-in-th-24698.aspx ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CHICAGO TRIBUNE ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CINEMA BLEND ----------------------------------------------------------------------- EW.COM 'Grey's Anatomy': Crazy/Beautiful - Nov 21, 2008 The ghost of Denny still won't leave, and the interns won't stop slicing each other open. At least Callie and Cristina get to enjoy an always-welcome reminder This whole show feels a bit like it's suffering the same kind of crazy Izzie is: seeing dead people, going off on tangents, not making a whole lot of sense. I mean, I say this because — like Alex — I care. I like Grey's Anatomy. I like it so much that I hold it to a higher standard than your basic hospital show or soap. I'm rooting for it to pull itself together. But we're now into sweeps month. This is not how Grey's should look during sweeps. Or at all, of course, but especially now. First, and most egregiously, there was this Denny nonsense. Izzie is now having sex with dead people. This could've packed some kind of punch if: a. It were closer to the time of his death — a year ago at the very, very latest. (Let's face it: I would've welcomed this over the George affair; it's all relative evils here.) Or b. This hadn't been done to much greater effect in a little movie called Ghost. At this point, why don't we just break out the pottery wheel and call it an homage? Because otherwise it just seems like a lame attempt to revive a very popular, resonant plotline that worked a few seasons ago. The one up side: At least this time he wasn't wearing a fishing sweater. ..........cont’d http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20241945,00.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LA TIMES 'Grey's Anatomy': Midnight madness - Nov 21 2008 What a bumpy night it was for "Grey's Anatomy." Lexie and her secret society decided to remove new intern Sadie’s appendix and nearly killed her in the process. BFF’s Cristina and Meredith saved the day but then turned on each other in a blowout fight. Mark revealed he had awful, disinterested parents. George finally got the memo that Lexie’s in love with him. And a self-proclaimed “married, betrayed, gay, abandoned” Callie mused that things surely couldn’t get any worse, only to have her nose broken by a freaked out patient with night terrors. ......... cont’d http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2008/11/greys-anatomy-m.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MSNBC ‘Grey’s’ interns get off easy after a close call - Nov 21, 2008 What exactly does it take to get fired from Seattle Grace? Intern-al medicine: The interns, who were so recently dabbling in blood-taking and sutures, escalated their secret project by performing first an epidural and then an appendectomy. Exhibitionist Sadie naturally volunteered, and when Lexie flinched at the slicing moment, Sadie simply opened her own abdomen to move things along. Naturally, Sadie’s surgery went south when she actually turned out to have an inflamed appendix, making her whimsical surgery rather serious. Lexie fetched Meredith, while Cristina wised up on her own after finding the still-numb Epidural Guy. Both burst into the interns’ Frankenbasement just in time to hear that Sadie was dying. They called in Bailey, who helped repair the botched surgery, which the interns had apparently done with safety scissors and glue sticks. This all somehow led to Meredith and Cristina fighting, George noticing that Lexie is in love with him, and Bailey hating general surgery because she resents the appendix. Seriously. ....... more http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27668538/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW YORK MAGAZINE ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV GUIDE Grey's Anatomy Episode Recap: "In the Midnight Hour" - Nov 21, 2008 This week on Grey's Anatomy, the interns take their secret society one step too far and Izzie finds herself torn between two lovers. Here we are, one week later, and Denny Duquette still seems just as real, if not more so, than ever before. So, just how is it possible that Izzie can hear the sound of Denny's beating heart, when that organ had been removed during his autopsy many moons ago? I don't want to believe that Izzie is really sick (physically or psychologically), so now I'm leaning toward the theory that Izzie is playing catch-up with her emotions. Maybe she never fully grieved the loss of Denny and their relationship, and now she must experience those emotions before she can truly move on and commit to Alex....cont’d http://www.tvguide.com/Episode-Recaps/greys-anatomy/In-Midnight-Hour-1000048.aspx TV Guide Scan about Tyne Daly - Nov 19, 2008 http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd105/GAnatomyPics/scan0001-2.jpg ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV SQUAD Grey's Anatomy: In the Midnight Hour - Nov 21st 2008 (S05E09) "Who's making a porno movie in Izzie's room?" - Derek I am an unashamed Grey's Anatomy fan. I've watched it since the very beginning. At this point, it'd be hard for me stop because I feel like I've invested too much time to just say the hell with it smack in the middle of the show's fifth season. A season which I went from loving, to hating, to loving, and now to absolutely despising. So for those of you who seem to think that I shouldn't be writing weekly reviews of this show because "I don't seem to like it very much, well, I assure you that's just not the case. I complain because I love. Based on that, I really loved this episode. I think I speak for the rest of America when I ask, why the F is Denny still hanging around? It's like one big unending cross-over episode with The X-Files. He and Izzie were making out, touching, kissing... having sex? What?!? And he just keeps blabbing "I'm here for you." Care to elaborate, Mr. Duquette? Denny is dead(!), and you know what the worst part is? Shonda Rhimes confirmed that Izzie doesn't have some wacko brain tumor! Got any other theories? I give up, but I tell ya - this had better clear up fast, because it has become by far, the most distracting, unrealistic, and annoying thing about this show, and it's been going on for three weeks now! I honestly can't think of how this could have a satisfying ending. Pull a Hahn and just have him be gone next week. Please. Sloan having a relationship with a barcalounger would be more enjoyable than this. http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/11/21/greys-anatomy-in-the-midnight-hour/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- USA TODAY ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ZAP2IT 'Grey's Anatomy': Lexie goes rogue surgeon in the basement - Nov 21, 2008 The Grey's Anatomy Meredith Grey Voiceover this week is about adult monsters: self-doubt, regret, etc. It leads us into Denny and Izzie getting to do something they never got to do in real life. And the clothes come off! Bomp-chicka-wah-wah. Christina arrives at the hospital to wait for a trauma coming in and Dr. Hunt tries to engage her in conversation. He's nervous as a schoolboy. Sadie finds Meredith reading her mother's journals, saying if she weren't Ellis Grey's daughter, she probably would've liked her because she was funny, intense and a lot like Christina. Out in the hall, everyone hears Izzie moaning in ecstasy and Alex knocks on the door. She begs off, saying she's sick with the flu. Seattle Grace. Meredith, Christina, George and Alex all jump at the appendectomy. Bailey sends George with Hunt and a trauma victim, Alex off with another doctor, and tells Mere and Christina to jump in on the surgery. Down in the basement, the interns are practicing on each other some more. This time it involves an epideral and the Crazy-Ass Interns decide they should do an appendectomy themselves. Sadie and Lexie are spearheading this jaunt into Crazyville, with Sadie volunteering to be the patient............ cont’d http://blog.zap2it.com/ithappenedlastnight/2008/11/greys-anatomy-l.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- RATINGS ABC NOVEMBER 2008 SWEEP RATINGS - ABC Television Network - Tuesday, November 25, 2008 Primetime - 2008 November Sweep (Based on National Live + Same Day Program Ratings) ABC Ranks No. 1 for the 4th Straight November in Adults 18-49, The Net's Longest Winning Streak for the Month Since the Early '90s ABC Airs 2 of the Top 3 Series in November in Adults 18-49 And 4 of the Top 8 Most-Watched Television Shows Overall Net Claims 7 of the Top 10 Entertainment Telecasts in November '08 in Adults 18-49, And Between "Grey's" and "Housewives" Delivers the Top 7 Telecasts in Key Women November 2008 (26 of 28 Nights): For the 4th consecutive November Sweep, ABC ranks as the No. 1 network in the key Adult 18-49 sales demo (3.2/8). The guest-star thing still isn't working for Tina Fey. Last night's Grey's Anatomy dominated among women and adults 18-49, Nielsen estimates said. Overall, the episode, featuring another curious appearance by Izzie's dearly beloved—and dead—Denny, scored with 15.7 million, up nearly 1 million from last week. 30 Rock's latest foray into Will & Grace territory—Steve Martin was this week's stunt guest, after Oprah Winfrey and Jennifer Aniston—recorded the show's latest down week (7.3 million). The return of Toby to The Office was greeted by 8.4 million, up a tick from last week. The show was NBC's biggest comedy in viewers and adults 18-49. With ABC on a cancellation binge, Life on Mars (8 million) did well to stay even with last week. But it still ran third in the demo behind ER (9.1 million overall) and Eleventh Hour (10.7 million overall). CSI did its thing—it got killed in the key demos by Grey's but won the night in viewers (18.4 million, down from last week). http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b70072_dead_denny_livens_up_greys_anatomy.html?utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=rssfeeds&utm_campaign=imdb_topstories "Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m.) 2.
