The ATTENDANT hands her the form. She looks it over. Dr. Smith: What happens to them? Morgue Attendant: You sign, the attending signs, pink copy goes in his chart. Dr. Smith: I mean the bodies. The “Unclaimed Bodies.” What happens to them? Morgue Attendant: Oh. If they remain unclaimed for a certain amount of time, they’re cremated. The ones that haven’t been preserved. Dr. Smith: Preserved? Morgue Attendant: For medical research, Gross Anatomy, surgical study, that sort of thing. Dr. Smith: For, like, med students? Morgue Attendant: Exactly. For med students. Dr. Smith: To practice on? A beat. Morgue Attendant: You’re pretty. And Dr. Smith smiles. Trying to be even prettier. ______________________________ Young Woman - Scene 1 INT. HALLWAY OUTSIDE VICTIM’S ROOM – NIGHT Dr. Brown comes out of the Victim’s room to see a policeman escorting a distraught young woman up the hall. Young Woman: (to the policeman) He’s here? Dr. Brown stops her outside the victim’s room. Dr. Brown: He’s your husband? Young Woman: Yes, can I see him— Dr. Brown warns her Dr. Brown: Wait. Please. You want to wait. He was very badly beaten. He’s been fighting very hard, and we’re hopeful. And she lets her look in the room. And the woman bursts into tears at the sight. Young Woman: Oh. Oh my God. Why? Dr. Brown: We don’t know. Maybe he can tell us when he wakes up. They go in. ______________________________ Paramedic - Scene 1 INT. ER – MORNING Dr. Smith and Dr. Brown receive a patient from paramedics. The patient is a horrible sigh: an unconscious, bruised and bloody mess of broken limbs, facial lacerations, an eye swollen shut, a shattered jaw. He’s beaten to a bloody pulp Paramedic: Unidentified male, mid-30's. Unstable pelvis, multiple fractures, both arms, one femur. Medical, medical, medical, facial lacs, possible internal bleeding, medica airway, pulse and B. P. unstable... Dr. Smith: What doesn’t this guy have? Paramedic: Found him under a freeway overpass. Cops think someone threw him over. Dr. Smith: After they beat him half to death. _____________________________ Alison - Scene 1 INT. CARDIAC ICU – MICHAEL’S ROOM – MORNING Kristen (Dr. Hahn) and Sarah (Izzie) enter to find Michael Morris, 40, being helped into bed by his wife Alison, 38. Once healthy and athletic, now Mike is frail, weak and breathless. Mike: Dr. Hahn. Ready to bring the pain? Kristen: Hi Mike. This sis Dr. Bell. Alison hi.... And to Sarah’s surprise, Kristen hugs Alison. Kristen: Mike, any questions about the procedure. Mike: You’re going to give me a heart attack. Literally. Kristen nods to Sarah. Sarah: It’s a technique called alcohol ablation. Through a catheter in your femoral artery, Dr. Hahn will inject pure ethanol into your heart. The alcohol will incinerate every piece of tissue cell it touches. Mike: That sounds like it’ll feel great. Kristen: It won’t. She nods to Sarah. Sarah: We’ll be burning away the skin in your ventricle that prevents your blood from getting enough oxygen. If we’re successful, you should feel instant relief. Like you got a brand new set of lungs. Mike: Just like that? I’ll be able to breathe? Kristen: Just like that. Alison: And he can’t be asleep? During the procedure? Kristen: I’m afraid not. Dr. Bell will be talking you through it all. She’ll be asking you to cough, inhale and exhale --- Mike: And checking to see if I’m dead yet? Alison: Mike, stop. Mike: I mean it’s like a heart attack, right? He’s asking with good humor, but he’s really asking. Kristen: It’s a dangerous procedure. But it’s one we can monitor and control. And if you don’t have it, the next heart attack you have – and there will be a next one --- Mike: ---- will kill me. A beat as this sinks in for all of them. Mike jokes with Sarah. Mike: (to Izzie) Promise you’ll keep me awake for this? I don’t want to miss it. ______________________________ Alison - Scene 2 INT. HALLWAY OUTSIDE MICHAEL’S ROOM – DAY Mike’s wife Alison, comes out of the room. In tears. Alison: He’s decided. He won’t do another procedure. I’m going to check him out. Alison moves off. Sarah watches her go. But before Kristen can say a word, Sarah walks to Mike’s bedside. Kristen follows Sarah in. Kristen: Doctor Bell ---- Mike: She’ll be OK. This has been coming for a long time. We’ve all been preparing. Preparing the girls. She’ll be OK. She’ll move on. Sarah might be explaining this as much to her as she is to Mike. Sarah: She loves you. And the only way she’ll live without you — The only thing that will give her any peace at all, is if she knows that both of you tried everything. That she did everything she could to keep you alive. "There are new sides for 5.07: Young Woman - distressed, being escorted into "victim's" room by a policeman (no sides for policeman). Dr Brown asks if this is her husband - she confirms. Victims has been badly beaten. Morgue Attendant - with a female Dr Smith, who has to sign some forms which appear to relate to an unidentified body. Dr Smith seems very inexperienced (may be Lexie). Morgue attendant tells her her thinks she is pretty and appears flattered. Paramedic - brings in what is probably the later unidentified trauma victim. Dr Smith and Dr Brown are there and comment on the extent of his injuries. He appears alive at this stage but just. The body was found on the freeway. Alison - wife of Mike (no sides at this stage for Mike - which seems strange). Cardiac ICU - Mike is to undergo a risky procedure on his heart. Kristin (Hahn - they forgot to blank out the names on the script) and Sarah (Izzie). Hahn greets Alison with a hug which surprises Izzie. Hahn knows both Alison and Mike. Mike does not want to go ahead with the procedure and Alison is outside his room upset talking to Izzie/Hahn. Izzie enters Mike's room and tells him that Alison will never have peace unless she know that they did everything to save him. Wondering if this is when we have the return of dead Denny - Izzie being reminded of the extraordinary lengths she went to get a heart for Denny? The other cases give no insight into any thing really. Unless Lexie is trying to cope with her feelings for George and he is still oblivious to her interest and she gets a morale boost from the Morgue Attendant. ETA - someone of at TWoP suggested that Mike may be the guy waiting for transplant that Izzie stole the heart from for dead Denny. Maybe Izzie feels so guilty she desperately wants Mike to do everything to live not only for his wife but for herself. Hahn would have to know of Izzie's involvement or does she?"
