Maureen Ryan, TV critic for the Chicago Tribune, said, "Bernadette Peters has an excellent guest turn as one of three women who undergo personal and medical crises" while Misha Davenport, her counterpart at the Chicago Sun-Times, thought, "The scenes between Baker and Peters are exceptionally moving, and fans will want to have a tissue or two handy for the inevitable waterworks." And Matt Roush of TV Guide wrote, "Peters is especially fine as she confronts a life spinning out of control. I’d make her an early contender for a guest-actor Emmy nomination." Four women have already earned guest actress nods for their appearances on this scrubs and suds drama: double nominee Kate Burton, Christina Ricci, Elizabeth Reaser and another Broadway baby -- Tony winner Diahann Carroll.
