You are an amazing group of people and you should be really proud of it!! This is something I did yesterday…but well, some cough* events cough made it impossible for me to post it. The only requirement for membership is an unhealthy obsession with the show-which causes work to not get done, laundry to pile up, dishes to not get washed, kids getting out to bed an hour early on Thursdays, doors to be locked & phones to be unplugged on Thursdays, other people living in your house (that you couldn’t put to bed an hour early) to not be allowed to speak, eat loudly, pop popcorn or even breathe (except during commercials) on Thursday nights. One of the most widely recognized characteristics of 12-step groups are members admitting that they have a problem (Yeah-Right!) In the spirit, members open their addresses to the group along the lines of “Hello, my name is Renee, I am a Grey’s Addict” All 12-Step programs follow similar versions of the 12 steps. Members meet regularly (every day, all day) to discuss meet regularly to share their experience, strength & hope (speculate & discuss) If you want what we have to offer and are willing to make the ffort to get it, you are ready to take certain steps, Here’s what made our group possible. The 12-Steps as defined by the Grey’s Girls 1. We admitted we were powerless over Shonda “sneaky pants” Rhimes, and that she has caused our lives to become unmanageable. 2. We came to believe that Shonda & her writers could restore us to sanity (or drive us completely insane) 3. We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to care of Shonda & her writers. 4. We made a searching & fearless moral inventory of Mer, Der, Cris, Burke, George, Callie, Izzie, Alex, Mark & Addi. 5. We admitted to NO ONE the exact nature of Mer or Der’s wrongs. 6. We were entirely ready to have Mer & Der together (or for a new clip!) 7. We humbly asked Shonda to let Mer & Der do the bendy thing in all places…exam rooms, showers, on-call rooms, bathtubs…. 8. We made a list of all persons that came between Mer & Der & became willing to injure them all. 9. We made direct threats to the characters by killing them all off the show (except Mer) 10. Continued to Speculate & Discuss & when we were wrong we NEVER admitted it. 11. Sought through Speculate & Discussion to improve our conscious contact with Shonda and the writers to try to figure out WHO is going to die, who is getting married & when will we get to actually SEE the bendy thing. 12. Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we try to carry the message to other Grey’s Girls still suffering through this hiatus, and hope to see Mer & Der doing the bendy thing in all places in their life. We drink our coffee out of McDreamy mugs, we watch promos frame by frame over & over again until our vision is blurry, we examine every photo, dig for every spoiler we can find and watch shows we don't like just so we won't miss a promo. One of us was Meredith for Halloween, one is named McPromo, another sustained injuries while watching the Mer/Der love scene, some drool over McDreamy, some over McSteamy and we all talked about Meredith's panties for 6 weeks. Don't even ask about The Fray video. We even dismiss the timeline and just roll with it, we're flexible. On Greys Day we ignore family and friends - if you're not dying, don't bother us when Greys is on. Children are bribed into bed before the show starts. Duct tape is handy in case any husband, family member or friend decides to attempt to speak. Friends who call during the show? Who needs friends like that? When the show ends, we all jump to our computers to begin obsessing all over again. We then rewatch the episode. Again and again. Its an endless cycle. Now that you know something about us, here's a few questions we have: 1. We love Mer/Der - How about something a little more than a snore? (hint: the hairy leg, the exam room, elevator makeouts, George/Izzie being kept up all night. Even a hair sniff would help. See season 1. How about a conversation? See season 2.). 2. Can Meredith be a kick-as$ doctor again? Afterall, she's the "one to beat". Mer needs her mojo back. 3. Can IW just leave already? We love Cristina - Burke not so much. We're sick & tired of IW overtaking our show even if he is Preston Burke. 4. Where does Alex live? Since we're on Alex, can he be part of the intern group again instead of just part of Addison's story? 5. Why is Mark here? Help us girls out with a few details about him. 6. You'd never really hurt Derek, right? 7. When you say fans are going to be challenged are you referring to our sanity? We have to be honest, we're already teetering on the edge of sanity (see description of us above). 8. Can Izzie stop mourning and be Izzie again? 9. Can we have a laugh thrown in every now and then amongst the drama? (again, see season 1) 10. Do the tunnels where the interns hung out still exist? Can we see them there again, together, talking and trying to make it as doctors? We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less. These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this to you, and a time when you can choose either to accept it, or to just ignore it. Remember, spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
