GUEST STARS

Grey's Exclusive: Mitch Pileggi Returns for Season Premiere
Grey's Anatomy has prescribed an encore for X-Files alum Mitch Pileggi.

Pileggi, who first guest-starred on the ABC drama toward the end of Season 3, will return for the two-hour Season 6 premiere, again playing hospital board chairman Larry Jennings, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

When Pileggi first appeared as Jennings, the Seattle Grace bigwig required medical attention after a trip to the Amazon left him with a carnivorous fish lodged in an unfortunate part of the anatomy.

For his encore, Pileggi's hospital mucky-muck will have official business to tend to. It perhaps relates to not one but two staff doctors, Izzie Stevens and George O'Malley, looking the Grim Reaper in the eye.

'Grey's Anatomy' exclusive: The George story you'll never see - July 27, 2009
It's now common knowledge that T.R. Knight declined Grey's Anatomy boss Shonda Rhimes' request to briefly return in season 6 to give his terminal George some closure. “I kind of get it,” the series’ creator says in this week's Entertainment Weekly cover story. “[He’d] emotionally walked away." Fans, however, may not be quite as chill when they hear the killer story she had planned for him. Exclusive details about George O'Malley's lost Grey's Anatomy episode can be found after the jump…

In this fall's season premiere, George will succumb to the injuries he sustained after getting mowed down by that bus in last May's finale. But that wasn't supposed to be the last we saw of him. Says Rhimes, the episode was then going to flash back to the hours during which George was missing, from when he left the hospital to when he returned later on as a disfigured John Doe.

"I wanted to see his last day [alive] really badly," she says. "What I thought was interesting was the idea of, we now know it's the last day of someone's life, [so we’re] looking at it differently than [we] would any other time."

Viewers would have also seen firsthand how George's split-second decision to save that girl's life cost him his own. "I wanted to see the moment he leapt in front of the bus," Rhimes confirms. "I wanted to bookend the episode [so that] the first time you see him leap in front of the bus, it's really scary. But the second time you see it, he's a hero.

"I thought it would have been a beautiful episode," she continues, adding that, had we seen those missing hours, "We might have learned something new about George."

Although disappointed she wasn't able to tell that story, Rhimes insists she's content with how George's five-year arc concluded. "We really got to see him grow up," she says. "It really does feel like we watched a full evolution of a character, and I feel good about that."

Still, I would've loved to have seen those flashbacks. What about you? Do you wish Knight had stuck around a little longer to give us George's last day? Or do you agree with him that the final shot of his character standing outside the elevator was "the best way to leave it"? Comment away below!

This week's cover: 'Grey's Anatomy' star T.R. Knight reveals why he left the hit show

Jul 23, 2009, 07:56 AM | by Michael Ausiello

In the spirit of Comic-Con, I'm going to geek out here for a moment: Holy frak, it's my very first Entertainment Weekly cover story!!! Now that I got that out of my system, I present you with this exclusive excerpt... Fans were shocked when T.R. Knight made the surprising decision to leave Grey’s Anatomy, the hit medical drama that launched him to fame. This week, in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor reveals what led him to his decision, and he also candidly discusses "Isaiahgate,” coming out of the closet, and leaving his friends at Seattle Grace.

This fall, Knight was surprised to see his character George O’Malley all but vanish from the show -- for the first nine episodes of season 5, he appeared on screen a total of only 48 minutes, compared to 114 for Sandra Oh’s Christina. Still, due to what he calls a gradual “breakdown of communication” between himself and exec producer Shonda Rhimes, the actor chose not to ask his boss what was going on with his character. Instead, he simply asked to leave. "My five-year experience proved to me that I could not trust any answer that was given [about George]," he explains. "And with respect, I'm going to leave it at that."

Though he was unknown when Grey's premiered, Knight soon emerged as one of the breakout stars (and even earned a supporting actor Emmy nod in 2007), but it was what came to be known as "Isaiahgate" that would catapult him to household-name status. After Isaiah Washington referred to Knight as a "f----t" during an on-set argument with co-star Patrick Dempsey, the tabloids caught wind of it, Knight came out in the press, and Washington was fired. While Knight doesn’t specifically fault Rhimes for how the situation was handled behind the scenes, he says the exec producer was among those who tried to discourage him from coming out: "I think she was concerned about having my statement come out so close to the [initial] event." Rhimes denies this: "I said, 'If you want to come out, that's awesome. We'll totally support that.' And then he went away, thought about it, and came back and said, 'I'm going to make this statement.' I remember saying to [fellow executive producer] Betsy Beers, 'This is our proudest day here. T.R. got to come out, and I got to say to him that it wouldn't affect his character' -- because he was concerned that he was going to come out and George would suddenly be gay. I was like, 'We are not going to do that.' The idea that a gay character can't play a straight man is insulting."

Knight returned to work on season 4, but the actor struggled with the story line in which George cheated on his wife Callie (Sara Ramirez) with Izzie (Katherine Heigl). And once George went MIA from the beginning of season 5, the star came to the conclusion that his character had “expired.” Today, Knight is at peace with his choice to leave: "There just comes a time when it’s so clear that moving on is the best decision," he says. But at first, his castmate and friend Heigl tried to talk him out of it. "I didn't think it was the right decision," she says. "I felt like some of the problems could be worked through. But by the time it came to fruition, I was [glad] for him because he was ready to go."

Knight knows he’s taking a risk walking away from his top 10 show and $14 million contract. "From an outsider's perspective, I get the [impression that] 'He’s just a spoiled actor…he doesn’t know how good he has it,'" he says. "There are a lot of people who would like to be in my position. But in the end, I need to be fulfilled in my work."

For more on T.R. Knight -- including how he felt when George was back-burnered, what he really thought of the "Gizzie" story line, and where you can see him next-- plus what’s in store for the other docs on Grey’s Anatomy, pick up the new issue of Entertainment Weekly on stands Friday July 24.

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on 'Grey's - Jul 23, 2009
Question: Hey, do you have any Grey's Anatomy news that doesn't involve George or Izzie? --Salma
Ausiello: Yes -- the entire cast will be following T.R. Knight out the door. At least series creator Shonda Rhimes is braced for them to. Eventually. She got to thinking about it both because of Knight's exit and Ellen Pompeo's impending maternity leave. “It's going to be tricky,” Rhimes acknowledges. “Ellen is incredibly optimistic and somehow thinks she'll be back and ready to rock 'n' roll. [But] I have a child, so I know that that's not true. [So] we have a lovely story [on deck] that will take us into her maternity leave. And we have plans for some really interesting stand-alone episodes for [while she's gone]. But we're heading towards the future of the show and eventually, unless we're really lucky, everybody's going to go. That's what the end of season 5 taught me. So we're looking at, How do we mess with that structure now while we have everybody and figure out ways in which, 'What would we do without Ellen? What would we do if we had an episode without Patrick Dempsey?' So season 6 is important. A lot of shows don't make it through season 6 because they don't know how to transition." Can Rhimes envision Grey's someday going on with Pompeo (and Mer) completely out of the picture?! "I don't know" she hedges. "I clearly want Mer Grey on the show for as long as Ellen Pompeo wants to be on the show; that's not even a question. But I think that there's a possibility of [her leaving for good at some point]. I haven't even thought that far. That's the one blank spot I have in my head. I can't really picture Mer Grey not on the show. But [at least] we have Lexie Grey. There is another Grey if we really needed one." But would anyone watch Lexie Grey's Anatomy? Would you? Scroll down to the comments!

Question: Will Ellen Pompeo's pregnancy be written into Grey's Anatomy? --John
Ausiello: No. "Ellen is pregnant, but Meredith is not," Rhimes tells me. "Meredith wouldn't be pregnant [right now]."

Question: Now that Grey's Anatomy has finally started production, you got anything? And I really mean anything. --Dana
Ausiello: Look for Owen's PTSD to possibly flare up in the Sept. 24 opener. I say this because my Grey's mole tells me that Seattle Grace's go-to shrink, Amy Madigan, will appear in the second hour of the two-hour premiere.

The WHOLE story behind the 'Grey's' elevator swap - Jul 17, 2009

As I first scooped in this week's Ask Ausiello, T.R. Knight’s army-clad parting shot on Grey’s Anatomy almost didn't feature T.R. Knight. The haunting scene in the final moments of the show's season finale -- the one where George appears poised to escort Izzie to heaven via elevator -- was originally filmed with Jeffrey Dean Morgan's deceased Denny waiting for Katherine Heigl’s cancer-stricken MD. But an 11th hour epiphany by series creator Shonda Rhimes resulted in Denny getting the shaft.

"Something didn’t feel right," Rhimes recalls. "And then it hit me, 'My God, it's George! When the elevator opens, it should be George we see.'"

There was just one problem. Actually, there were two problems. Keep reading to see what they were and how they got resolved…

Thinking he was done for the season, Knight went ahead and shaved his head. As Rhimes explains, "[Director] Rob Corn calls me up and goes, 'What do we do?'" Considering George enlisted in the Army right before getting mowed down by that bus, the solution came to Rhimes in an instant. "I said, 'Put him in a military uniform!' It wasn't a big amazing plan I had."

The happy accident packed an emotional punch for viewers, Knight included. "It was brilliant of Shonda to put George in the dress blues," says the actor, who last month confirmed that he would not be returning to Grey’s next fall. "It was such a powerful image."

The whole thing is even more remarkable when you consider that Heigl was in Alabama shooting a film and not present for the reshoot. To ensure their expressions were in sync, Knight picked Heigl's brain over the phone before stepping in front of the cameras. "I was like, 'What did you do in that scene?'" he says with a laugh. "It’s nice when you’ve worked with someone for five years. There's a shorthand."

Heigl still had some concerns about whether the switcheroo could be pulled off. "Katey called me and was like, 'Are my expressions going to match his? Is it going to work?" Rhimes recounts. "And I was like, 'I promise you it's going to be perfect.'"

Ask Ausiello: - July 16, 2009
Question: Any Grey's Anatomy scoop? --Laura
Ausiello: Yep, a pretty big one. More on that later.

Question: Got any more Grey's scoop? --Katie
Ausiello: Okay, you wore me down: Remember the haunting image of an army-clad George waiting outside the elevator for Izzie in the season finale? Well, it wasn't supposed to be George standing there. The scene was originally shot with Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Denny playing the role of Izzie's heavenly escort. But as Grey's boss Shonda Rhimes explains to me exclusively, "I received the first cut [of the finale] on a Friday and something didn't feel right. All weekend long something was bugging me. And then I woke up Monday morning and it hit me, 'My God, it's George! When the elevator opens, it should be George we see.'" There was just one problem. Actually, there were two problems. And to find out what they were and how they got resolved (apologies in advance) pick up the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, on sale Friday!

Question: How much longer do we have to wait for Grey's scoop?! --Carly
Ausiello: One of the two problems involved Katherine Heigl's location at the time of Shonda's epiphany. That's all you're getting. You have to pick up the mag for the rest.

Question: Anything on Grey's? --Nancy
Ausiello: The other problem involved what T.R. Knight did to his head after production wrapped. Now I'm really done.

Question: Please give us something on Grey's? --Jay
Ausiello: The second problem involving T.R. Knight's head eventually became the solution. Okay, now I'm really really done. Get the rest of the scoop in this week's EW!

Spoiler Alert! Grey’s Anatomy Scoop By Scott Huver July 18, 2009 04:09 PM EST

Katherine Heigl isn’t just mourning the departure of her pal T.R. Knight from Grey’s Anatomy. She revealed that his character George O’Malley, last seen in cardiac arrest, does indeed die on the show. And the departure of both the character and the actor left the cast remembering them in ways both funny and poignant.

“We had to do a scene about George’s death and Justin [Chambers] kept saying ‘I just keep imagining T.R. on Broadway,” Heigl says, imitating Chambers’ impression of Knight doing “jazz hands” (Knight’s next project is the stage production Parade). “Then we all sort of went ‘Yeah, that’s hilarious!’” She pauses for a beat. “’Oh, that’s really sad. He would be laughing really hard now too, and he’s not here to laugh with us.’ So it’s a little strange in that regard.”

The fate of Heigl’s Izzie’s was also left hanging—after the removal of a tumor she too went into cardiac arrest—but Heigl will be back in character for the season, still sporting a shaved head for at least the first several episodes. She says she dyed her hair brown in real life “because on the show I don’t have hair, so now I can do whatever I want.”

Everything else is business as usual on the medical drama, “aside from Ellen [Pompeo]'s growing belly,” Heigl notes of her pregnant costar. “Last time I saw her it was just a tiny bump, and now she’s got a basketball.”

Jon side:
Jon is a physical therapist working with a patient Monica. Monica is sitting her her bed, deeply depressed, no light in her eyes. Jon helps her stand on her new prosthetic leg. Her body shakes. Jon says who would have known standing could be so hard and that she is doing awesome. She tells him to put her down, he says a few more seconds, she lets herself fall, he hurries to help her. He tells her to give it a second then they can go again. She says no. He says he knows its hard but this is it, where the hard part begins. The resident says third year. Miquel asks if Dr. Brownell can be paged or something. Resident tells him he still has heart disease but not enough to interest Dr. Brownell and that its a good thing. Says the protocol is working very effectively. Miquel says "but not cured" (this part is crossed out along with the reply that says BAILEY), reply is that its as good as it gets. Then says that they will finish the treatment and add slightly to the medications. Tells Miquel that he's living with heart disease that has stopped progressing and with a disease this aggressive its a stunning success. There's no timeline, they watch and wait and hope it doesn't start to advance again. If it does they change the protocol. Wilson Tricked At Emmy Announcement - 16 July 2009

Emmy Awards bosses tricked double-nominee Chandra Wilson into believing she'd been left off this year's shortlist.

The Grey's Anatomy star's name was omitted from a rundown of nominees she was shown before taking to the stage to announce the 2009 candidates on Thursday.

So she was stunned when she discovered she'd picked up two nods for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama for Grey's Anatomy and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for Accidental Friendship.

A shocked Wilson tells People.com, "We did the rehearsal ahead of time and went down the teleprompter three times. My name wasn’t there, so I was like, 'Cool.'

"I'd been completely duped."

Grey's Anatomy: Katherine Heigl Talks About Her Personal Life - July 13, 2009
Katherine Heigl has been the subject of controversy when it comes to her status on Grey's Anatomy but she hasn't exactly been forthcoming about the direction of her career and personal life. In an interview with UK Marie Claire, in which she appears on the cover of the August 2009 issue, the 30-year-old actress speaks about her relationship with husband Josh Kelley and her take on doing romantic comedies.

"Josh and I didn't live together before we were married because I wanted to hang on to those last days of my single-girl pad as long as I could. I'm not going to lie - it was rough when we finally moved in together. It's the simple stuff everyone talks about. I like things neat, he leaves things everywhere," the Grey's Anatomy actress revealed to Marie Claire.

And while her husband, who works as a singer and songwriter, is no stranger to the entertainment field, Heigl reveals that there are still some things that bothers him when it comes to Heigl's career.

"It's not his favorite part of the profession," said Heigl of her sex scenes. "But I told him, 'It's my job, and if I feel uncomfortable doing my job, and it suffers because of it, I'll kill you."

At present, Katherine Heigl is the fifth highest-paid actress in Hollywood with a string of successful films, including Knocked Up and 27 Dresses, as well as a regular post as Izzie Stevens on ABC's Grey's Anatomy. Soon, fans will want to see her working with more serious projects but Heigl isn't just ready to take the leap just yet.

"I know I'm catching some crap for it, but I really like doing them. People keep asking me if I want to do anything more serious, or Oscar-worthy, and I do, but I'm not quite there yet. I did a lot of heavy stuff in Grey's Anatomy. My mother went through breast cancer 12 years ago, and it brought a lot of that back. I don't want to do that 24/7," she said.

Katherine Heigl: Romance Not Always Rated - Tuesday July 14, 2009
Katherine Heigl plays a woman clueless in the ways of romance in her upcoming film, The Ugly Truth. But in real life, the actress considers herself fairly savvy on the subject.

"In my early 20s, I didn't know who I was or what I wanted," the Grey's Anatomy star, 30, tells InStyle for August, "and if you're just getting to know yourself while you're in a serious relationship – it's like you're trying on different personalities to see what fits, but there is that real you in there somewhere."

Heigl says she found her real self when she met singer Josh Kelley, her husband of 18 months, on the set of his 2005 video Only You. "I was fed up with trying to be somebody else, and got really lucky and met a great guy who loved me for me," she says.

Her experiences have not only helped her learn what she wants in romance but also what she wants in a romantic comedy – and she says it isn't always rated PG-13.

In a real relationship, Heigl posits, "you're probably going to drop the F-bomb once in a while. You're probably going to say some things that are kind of harsh. And you're definitely going to talk about sex.

"It doesn't have to be so Snow White and Prince Charming. That's my problem with a lot of romantic comedies."

It's that sass and forthrightness that Ugly Truth costar Gerard Butler says made him fall madly in love with her after watching Knocked Up. "This is the sexiest, smartest, sassiest, funniest actress out there. And suddenly you get told they want you to read a script with her? I love this business!"

Clara - Scene 1

INT. HOSPITAL – DAY
Clara sits up in bed, tense and motionless, sweating with concentration. Dr. James stares at Clara’s still right hand. A long suspended, silent beat ... then ... Clara collapses with a huge, defeated sigh.

Dr. James: It’s fine, it’s only been three days. The swelling will come down, and in a day or two we’ll try again. You’re doing great.

Clara: Right. Great. Where’d we leave off?

Dr. James goes back to the laptop. Reads...

Dr. James: “ ... Big, gorgeous hole in the ground “

Clara: Okay. “Miss you, Mum, wish you could see it – – “

Dr. James can’t keep silent.

Dr. James: Clara. Sorry. You are doing great, but you’ve got a long road here. And you’re going to need help, and support. And believe me, your mom will want to help, she’ll want to know – –

Clara: She made me from scratch. That’s what she always says. When I wanted to go sky diving, y’know? “Don’t jump out of a plane, Clare, I made your body from scratch!” When I sprained my ankle, “Be more careful, Darling, I mad that ankle from scratch.”

And the memory ... quoting her mom – – it’s almost too much for her. But instead of breaking, she defiantly turns to Dr. James.

Clara: (Cont’d) Miss you, Mum. (For Dr. James) “I’m doing great.” Love you, Clara.

Off Dr. James

End Scene 1

Clara - Scene 2

INT. - CLARA’S ROOM – NIGHT
Dr. James’s off duty, in her street clothes.

Dr. James: Hey. I’m heading out but I wanted to say good-night.

Clara looks down but she manages a little wave at Dr. James.

Clara: ‘Night.

And Dr. James freaks out.

Dr. James: Clara, your hand just moved! Like, you waved! You waved hello! This is huge!!!

Clara sees Dr. James’s excitement but she doesn’t share it.

Clara: That’s “huge?” That I waved? That I waved a finger? That’s my life from now on?? That’s the best I have to hope for?

And she starts to cry. Dr. James takes a beat. Moves to Clara’s side.

Dr. James: I know it doesn’t feel like it Clara, But it ‘s a miracle you lived. You should call your mom. She would want to know the truth.

Clara looks at Dr. James for a long beat,

Clara: You stupid little bitch. You really don’t get it, do you? You should have let me die! You had no business – – do you think you’re God? I was supposed to die! Don’t you get that??

And then, with her newly working hand, she pulls the IV out of her arm. As blood spurts , Clara starts screaming.

Clara: (Cont’d) YOU THINK THIS IS A MIRACLE?? WHO WANTS TO LIVE LIKE THIS??! JUST LET ME DIE!!!

As Dr. James tries to keep Clara from doing further damage ...

Dr. Black: So.... no elevated white cells, no infection, and no sign of internal bleeding.

Pam: So, what? You didn’t find anything?

Dr. Black: Well, no. Now we have to run the less fun tests.

Andy: Less fun how?

Dr. Black: Well to start, I’m gonna have to put a q-tip up your urethra.

Andy: My um – – my thing? You want to put a q-tip up my thing?

Pam: Why would you want to put anything up his thing?

Dr. Black: We need to rule out gonorrhea and that’s the only way to be sure.

Resident: I’m saying you protocol is working very effectively.

A beat.

Miquel: But I’m not cured.

Bailey: Mr. Canales. This is about as good as the news gets.

Miquel: Okay. So ... what now?

Resident: We’re gonna add to your medications, but only slightly. And we’ll finish out the course of treatment Dr. Brownell recommended.

Miquel: So ... like ... Is there a timeline here, or ...?

Resident: You are living with heart disease, Mr. Canales. Right now, the disease has stopped progressing. With a disease this aggressive, that’s pretty stunning success. There’s no time line. There’s just ... we watch it. We wait. We hope it doesn’t start to advance again. And if it does, we change out protocol.

Miguel: That’s it?

Resident: That’s it.

Off Miguel, not really emotionally equipped right now to deal with any of this.......

FADE OUT:

Showfax released sides for most of the roles from the casting call earlier tonight. The roles missing sides Tom (patient with mental health issues), Tom's mother and Todd (non speaking, probably no side needed). They could come out later or they are being cast with a name actors. All were just a page. Odd that they were all so short. My guess is that either Tom is the focus of the episode or there's more going on with the cast. A very brief summary of the others:

Gabe - having a third surgery for shunt replacement. Dr. Harper tells him the surgery is pretty simple surgery and should take around 45 minutes. Gabe tells Dr. Shepherd (name left in) that he could be done with hospitals for awhile.

Talia - Gabe's wife. When Dr. Harper tell them the surgery is simple, Talia says they are pros at it, that its the third shunt replacement. She then tears up saying she remembers the night of the accident, that no one thought he would make it and here he is, that its a miracle he is here.

Tyler - Pediatric patient, 9 years old. Dr. Adams tells Julia (Tyler's mom) that her son doesn't need surgery. Tyler asks for something to eat, Dr. Adams said they should be able to. He asks for mac and cheese and if they don't have it a hot dog, soda with no ice.

Julia - same as Tyler except she has a line where she tells Tyler she will get him something to eat after she calls Dad to give him the good news.

Sage - 6 year old Pediatric patient. She's hiding under the covers when the doctor comes in. Dr. Brin looks under the bed and says she not under here and hears giggling from the covers. Asks Mrs. Allen if Sage is hiding in her pocket and hears the giggling get louder. Finds Sage and tells her she needs to check the incision, Sage doesn't want her to, says Mr. Bear would like to see. Sage stops crying and looks at the doctor's bear pin. Same info for her mother Kerry.

Security - The security guard chases Tom into the stairwell. Tom tells him to stay back and not touch him. Tom runs up the stairs, loses his balance then falls down the stairs.

Medical Professional #3 - Scene 1

INT. HOSPITAL – DAY
MEDICAL PROFESSION #3 (a young male, ambitious, clever) is arguing with a fellow doctor.

Doctor: You stole my surgery!

Medical Professional #3: I didn’t steal your surgery. Dr. Berman asked me to scrub in.

Doctor: Only after you passed off my diagnosis as your own.

Medical Professional #3: We came up with that diagnosis together. I helped!

Doctor: Forget it, don’t ever talk to me again.

Medical Professional #3: Hey. Wait. Please. Just hear me out, okay? I’m sorry I got to scrub in on the surgery. And I’m sorry I maybe, sort of made it seem like I came up with that diagnosis on my own. But this isn’t high school. We’re doctors. Surgeons. Everyday people com in this place and depend on us to save their lives. Us. And that scares the crap out of me. Because the only way any of us are going to be able to save someone’s life is if we learn how. So that’s what I did today. I saw that there was the chance to learn and I took it. And maybe, just maybe that makes me a crappy coworker but that has nothing to do with how I am as a friend. So the way I see it is, we should be enemies when we’re in this hospital if that’s going to make us better doctors. But that doesn’t mean we have to be enemies out there. Because we’re the only freaking people who understand how crazy and stressful and god damn dysfunctional our lives are. And without friends? We’re screwed. All of us. So please, don’t write me off. Come to Joe’s. Drinks on me.

Doctor: Fine.. But I’m still mad at you.

Medical Professional #3: That’s okay. We’ll keep taking about it. Or you can just kick my ass at darts. Better, I let you throw the darts AT me. That sounds fun, no??

As they leave the hospital together ...

End Scene

Medical Professional #2 - Scene 1

INT. HOSPITAL – DAY
MEDICAL PROFESSION #2 (a young female, confident, driven) is getting scolded by her boss, Dr. Berman. Medical Professional #3 stands there, taking the verbal lashing, but we can see her mind is always working a few steps ahead.

Doctor Berman: .... It was dangerous, not to mention illegal for you to perform that procedure without a superior present! Do you understand??

Medical Professional #2: I do. But I don’t agree, sir.

Doctor Berman: Excuse me?

Medical Professional #2: The patient was complaining of chest pain. I paged Dr. Gavin and administered 10 cc.’s of heparin. We waited 2 minutes. That’s when we found out Dr. Gavin was tied up in surgery. We didn’t know how long it would take him to get to us. I administered another 30 cc.’s. The patient continued to deteriorate. That’s when I made the call to perform the thoracotomy.

Doctor Berman: You opened a man’s chest with his wife and children standing 5 feet away!

Medical Professional #2: That’s true. And I apologize for that. I should have asked the nurse to send them out of the room. It’s only in med school, they taught us that focusing solely on the task at hand was one of the most important parts of being a surgeon. I always thought I knew what they meant but, until today, until that moment where I had to open that man’s chest and put my hand on his heart, knowing that the only thing between him living and dying was me, well I guess I finally understood what they meant. I was the only person int eh room who could save that man’s life, sir. I can’t apologize for that.

Beat. Dr. Berman knows she’s right.

Doctor Berman: Very well. You’re excused.

Medical Professional #2: Thank you.

Medical Professional #2 goes to leave, but then stops, turning back ...

Medical Professional #2: And sir? The patient, I heard he survived. Is that true?

Doctor Berman: Yes.

Medical Professional #2: Good, that’s .... good. Thank you.

And the way Medical Professional #2 smiles, we can tell, she already knew the patient was going to survive. She just wanted to prove her point.

End Scene

Medical Professional #1 - Scene 1

INT. BAR – DAY
MEDICAL PROFESSION #1 (a young male, charming, effortlessly talented) is having a drink after work with on of his fellow doctors, Meg.

Meg: So then you just opened his chest?

Medical Professional #1: I didn’t just open his chest. I paged Berman and shocked the guy half a dozen time but he kept flatlining. I did what I had to do.

Meg: Look at you, sooo happy with yourself.

Medical Professional #1: I’m not.

Meg: You are.

Medical Professional #1: I’m not. I did my job. But what you just did – – pegging me as some smug, arrogant guy that everyone love to hate... Whatever, I’m used to it.

Meg: What are you talking about?

Medical Professional #1: I’m good at what I do. I’m confident. And I make cracking a chest open in the middle of the ER look easy. But all through college, all through med school, people assume I’ve had everything handed to me. Like I haven’t had to work as hard as everyone else to get to this place. And why? Because I’m laid-back?

Meg: Please, you’re a suck up. The way sweet talk the nurse so they’ll throw you more patients?

Medical Professional #1: No, that’s just smart. Get to know the nurses’ names and they’ll throw you an extra patient now and then. Ask your attending how her kids are doing and she’s mor likely to want to spend hours locked inside an OR with you. But whatever, be a jerk if that’s what you want. Yell at people if that makes you feel better about yourself. Just don’t make me apologize for being someone people like

Meg: Aw, you’ve really had a rough life, haven’t you?

Medical Professional #1: Shut up. Just, I’ll buy you another beer if we can stop talking about work.

We leave them there, drinking......

Dr. Thompson: Hey, whatever works. (Re: TV ) Hit it hard twice on the left.

Angela does. It works

Randy: What other tricks do you know?

Dr. Thompson: Stay away from the lime, if you want the really good pain meds, te the nurse you head hurts, not you stomach, and if you arm gets sore from the IV, ask for the anesthetic cream to numb it first.

Randy: You’ve done this before.

Randy and Dr. Thompson share that look that only two people who know what it’s like can share.

Charlie: No, listen to me. This is major surgery. They have to cut your... they cut you open, Dad. You could bleed, or ... you wanna die? Over an erection?

Irving: Wars have been fought over erections, son.

Charlie: DAD!

Irving: Now look, Charlie – – I think your mother would be proud I’m finally doing something nice for myself.

Charlie: YOUR THINK MOM WOULD BE PROUD YOU’RE GETTING A PENIS PUMP!?

Irving nods. Irving looks pissed.

Sides for 6.04 are out, no title.

Highlights are: Izzie has a case with a cancer patient and his girlfriend of 8yrs (Angela). Izzie and Randy relate on the cancer. Angela has stuck with him for 8 yrs, as she waits for him to propose. Randy tells Izzie he wants to, but it's not the right moment. Later Izzie realizes he's waiting for remission. Randy doesn't want her to have to have a sick husband. Izzie tells him marriage is hard even without the cancer, and even with all the crap it's still good.

Sounds like a good case.

Then there is Charlie/Heidi Waller son, and daughter in law of Irving (82 yr old). He's been in a nursing home. A doctor is doing laser surgery on skin growths (case for Mark) his son and DIL are over protective of Irving. Later on the scene turns into Irving wanting a Penile Implant, Mark is showing the son and daughter in law what's involved, and they are not going for this. Irving tells them that even though he's 82, he should still get a sex-life. Tells Charlie he thinks his mother would be proud. Heidi tells Irving they only want the best for him. That it's expensive and not covered by Medicare, and that he won't want to use all of his savings for this, because he'll want to help Becca through college (becca not a side). Irving doesn't seem to care. Heidi and Charlie are pissed.

Maybe has something to do with Mark spending money on a house? idk....

Then there is a Angry ND Attending, Richard is addressing the attendings, telling them that they had a rough few weeks, that it hasn't been easy around there. He asks them to be patient and that he would address questions as he could. Lots of hands go up in the air with questions, as Angry ND Attending interrupts and says what about the strain on radiology, that if their wellness program goes, so are they. Richard off, looks shocked..

Season 6 Voice Overs

“Grieve maybe a thing we all have in common…but it looks different on everyone…”

There was soft knocking at the door and Marc snapped his head towards it. He stood and walked to the door, opening it all the way. Lexie was standing in the hallway, smiling at him; a cross between a smirk and a shy smile.

“Hey,” Marc said softly.

Without answering, Lexie held up a toothbrush and then a pair of black, lace panties.

Marc chuckled and she placed them in his big hands before turning to her large suitcase, rolling it into his apartment.

“It isn’t just death we have to grieve…it’s life, it’s loss, it’s change…”

Marc closed the door and smirked, almost laughed actually before walking up slowly to Lexie, taking her face in his hands and tilting her chin up so he could look into her chocolate, brown eyes.

“I’m glad you’re here,” he whispered.

Lexie started to smile, to lean into Marc. He tilted her head just slightly to kiss her lightly on the lips, “Thanks for moving in…you have no idea what this means to me!”

Lexie leaned in closer, closing her eyes and “mmm”-ing. “I guess it was time,” she mumbled.

Marc kissed her again, still softly, “Isn’t it time for bed yet?” he smirked. Lexie’s eyes snapped open, “What?” She looked up at Marc and hit him playfully in the chest, “Is that all you think about?”

“Actually…,” Marc grinned.

“I haven’t even unpacked and…,” Lexie turned toward her suitcase. Marc laughed again, “There’s nothing in there you need,” he said, taking Lexie’s hand, slowly leading her into the bedroom.

“But…what about…,” Lexie protested.

Marc said nothing but pulled back the covers of his king-size bed, turning Lexie so she was in front of it, then pushing her slowly down into a sitting position.

She bit her bottom lip, looking up at him, “So, you…”

“Wanna make love to you? Yes!” Marc completed her sentence.

A shy smile lit Lexie’s face followed by a frown, “But what about…?”

Marc didn’t answer but slowly pushed Lexie into a lying position, starting to kiss her neck.

“Marc…?” Lexie tried to sit back up, but half way fell down again. Marc smirked and sat up, pulling a small box of condoms out of his pocket, waving it in front of her, “I’m coming prepared,” he smiled.

“Ahhh…,” Lexie nodded.

“Yes,” Marc grinned.

“I bought a box too,” Lexie smiled, motioning towards her suitcase, “…a large one!”

Marc pulled the covers up over Lexie, sitting down on the edge of the bed, slowly undressing, then he leaned down to kiss her again, “We’ll use all of them,” he mumbled against her lips. Lexie snaked her arms around Marc’s neck as he slipped his tongue inside her mouth.

When they finally broke apart, gasping for air, Lexie snuggled even closer to Marc, his breath blowing hot on her neck and making her shiver. Marc pulled her tighter against him, kissing her shoulder, “No one can love me like you,” he whispered.

“…And as we wonder why it has to suck so much sometimes…has to hurt so bad; the thing we got to try to remember is…it can turn on a dime…” Alex got out of his car and slammed its door. He chilled to the cold night air and stared at the trailer ahead of him before stepping onto the wooden deck. He glanced through the window for a moment; a sliver of moon behind the clouds showing him Izzie’s silhouette. He opened the trailer door and stepped inside but he froze as his searching gaze fell upon the numerous candles that were lit throughout the trailer. His heart suddenly began pounding, “What’s this?” “Take off your pants,” Izzie required softly. “Iz…it’s…er,” Alex mumbled nervously, overwhelmed by her demand. Izzie rose from the bed and walked to him, “Be my husband…get undressed…get into bed and hold me! I don’t know what you’re so mad about and I don’t know what you’re scared off because you won’t talk to me but I’m scared too Alex and I…I can’t…if you won’t…,” Izzie sighed, “If we’re gonna have any chance at a life together than I need you to…,” Izzie swallowed and stepped closer to Alex, reaching out to touch his cheek, “…please?” Alex grabbed Izzie’s hand before she really touched him and a sigh escaped his lips as he stared into her sad, brown eyes, “You died in my arms. YOU DIED IN MY ARMS. You f.r.e.a.k.i.n’ died and then you left instructions that I wasn’t allowed to safe your life! You wanna know what I’m scared of? I’m scared of everything…I’m scared to move. I’m scared to breathe. I’m scared to touch you. I can’t loose you. I won’t survive,” Alex’ voice grew softer, calmer, “…and that’s your fault,” he pointed his finger toward Izzie. “You made me love you. You made me let you in…and then you f.r.e.a.k.i.n’ died in my arms,” Alex’ voice rose again, screaming almost. Izzie swallowed and then stepped forward, cupping Alex’ face with tenderness, their foreheads touching. She swallowed hard and began to see what was inside Alex, how deep he cared for her, how afraid he’d been.

“…and that’s how you stay alive! When it hurts so much you can’t breathe…that’s how you survive.” Their lips softly touched and Izzie closed her eyes as they wrapped their arms around each other, hugging and holding on for dear life. As they slightly pulled back, Izzie whispered, “Please don’t pull away from me, Alex. I can’t bare it. Please love me, they way I love you!” As Alex felt Izzie’s chest pound, the dark shadows and sad memories slowly began to fade, replaced with a feeling of peace. He angrily brushed the moisture from his face and without speaking; he placed his hand at the curve of Izzie’s back, pulling her even closer. He lifted her hand and touched his lips to her wrist. He kissed her brow, her eyelids then moved down to her mouth. He lingered inside, tasted her sweet flavour, inhaling her scent. He caressed her neck, feeling her pulse quicken, her muscles tighten, her breath matching his, increasing with each touch. And at that particular moment, Alex felt the physical urge and emotional need to be with Iz; the hunger to consume her…touch her, become part of her. There was no more hesitation, no reluctance to put forth his feelings…everything was clear. Izzie’s voice trembled as she whispered, “I’m scared.” Alex issued a low groan, resonating from his throat as fire raged through his body, a heat that could only be quenched one way. He lifted Izzie, cupped her in his arms and carried her to the small bed, “Then we’ll both be scared,” he whispered as he started unbuttoning Izzie’s shirt, pressing his face against her chest and inhaling her scent. In one moment, their clothes were gone and Alex studied Izzie’s skin, her shape…her mouth. He became enraptured by its beauty; its response to his touch. As he stared into Izzie’s eyes and recognized her desire for him and him alone, their emotions blended together. Lust, tenderness, love and a powerful yearning to be with her, to be inside her body, share her mind, her soul. Alex caressed Izzie’s breasts, watched as they pulsed and responded to the touch of his lips, the goosed bumps encircling the protruded centres. He kissed down below her rib cage, across her navel and continued lower. Izzie’s mouth opened and then closed as she bit down across her lower lip. Her eyelids pulled back, opened fully as she arched upward, pressed against his mouth. She felt the sensation, the tingling, rising from her legs up her back. As the waves rippled across her body, she moaned his name, over and over again.

Alex felt his heart pound against his chest, his rapid breath against Izzie’s face as she gazed up at him. Almost unnoticeably she nodded and Alex slowly, gently joined with her, becoming one with the woman he loved. Carefully they merged, two humans linked as one body, moving in harmony. With each thrust, Alex sensed the warmth inside; penetrating deeper as the echo of rain that suddenly skated across the metal roof of the trailer blended with the sounds of a man and a woman making love. As they moved together, Alex caressed Izzie’s smooth skin, felt the flesh of her body absorb his heat. He increased their rhythm, pushed faster and at the peak, it all disappeared; the dark shadows of cancer, the sorrow of the loss of George; everything vanished except their love for each other. For an instant, at the crest of their journey, they remained motionless, united as one, all their muscles strained, their nerves on fire. Then they floated back and collapsed beside each other. After several moments, Alex turned Izzie’s body. He pressed his groin against her warm flushed buttocks. He kissed behind her ear and across her neck to her arms. He traced his hand down the curve of her waist, along her thigh and arched his arm across her chest. He held her tightly, until they both drifted off, together. Their legs and arms entwined, until they were like one body…one mind and it felt right, like it was always meant to be…

The elevator dinged and the door slid open. Miranda stepped inside and stared at her feet. Right before the door closed, a hand slid inside and the doors opened again. Derek Shepherd stepped into the elevator and his fresh cologne wafted over Miranda as he briefly nodded at her, “Miranda.” Derek stepped beside her, their shoulders almost brushing. “But remembering that one day…somehow, impossibly, you won’t feel this way, it won’t hurt this much.” Derek shifted and brushed Miranda’s shoulder again. Her stomach squeezed and she forced her gaze straight ahead. If he only wouldn’t speak…He stood so close; she could feel the heat radiating from his body. Suddenly he turned and pushed the stop button, turning toward her. His blue eyes met hers and his gaze was filled with understanding. Miranda struggled to clear her mind and think of nothing…not to think of Izzie or George, ignoring the ache in her chest but Derek kept staring intently at her and she finally sighed. “Look, I…I’m an attending…and I am a single mother…and I lost O’Malley and…er…I…I can’t care anymore…,” Miranda slowly shook her head. “Stevens is not my child. O’Malley was not my child. I have to stop treating…I just have to stop caring so much. I can’t keep feeling…,” Miranda’s voice almost cracked at the emotions rolling through her, “…like this. Not at work. I have to safe the feeling for my son who needs it…I just can’t keep giving it away…I can’t…,” her voice grew softer and the ache in her chest was almost overwhelming but then she straightened and looked forward, “…I won’t,” she stubbornly said. Derek lowered his head, staring down at Miranda. He smiled at her, a calm, kind smile. It surprised him to see how at ease she now was in comparison to her confused state of mind he’d sensed when he stepped on the elevator. He turned and pushed the stop button again, stepping beside her. “The grieve comes at its own time for everyone…in its own way.”

“So the best we can do, the best anyone can do, is try for honesty.” Cristina and Owen sat on the couch in nervous anticipation, each of them wanting to feel it so badly, it almost hurt. Their kiss was long and lingering, but suddenly Owen pulled back, sighing, “I don’t wanna hurt you again. My problems; they’re real and this…this makes us…this make my problems, your problems. I’m afraid. I don’t wanna hurt you again,” Owen said again while looking down and shaking his head. “You can sleep in the bathtub,” Cristina chuckled. “What?” Owen looked up, smiling. Cristina smiled back, cupping Owen’s face between her hands and kissing him again. A feeling of utter and sheer joy shot through him, making him vibrate and glow with warmth and energy. He felt a feeling of incredible love and it was at that moment, he understood what love really was. Owen smiled, “OK…I’ll sleep in the tub.” Then he slowly leaned closer and kissed Cristina again before they slowly started undressing one another like they had all the time in the world…and they did. Meredith sat in the locker room, stuffing her things into her bag, when a janitor entered, carrying a big, carton box. “The really crappy thing…the really worst part of grieve, is that you can’t control it.” She looked up startled when he started cleaning out the locker beside her own, “What are you doing?” she asked abruptly. “We need the space,” the janitor explained dismissive. Meredith swallowed hard and she saw the embroidered letters on George’s doctor’s coat and she strongly felt the urge to snatch it from the box but instead she stared straight ahead… “The best we can do is try to let ourselves feel it when it comes…” Arizona sat on a bar stool at Joe’s, shoving a glass of red whine to her left when she saw Callie entering the bar. She dropped her bag onto an empty bar stool and sat down, sighing, “Heey…oh, thank you. I’m stuck with this intern today. It took him four tries to stick in a central line. Reminded me a little bit of George, actually. When he was an intern.” Callie reminisced smiling. Arizona smiled and listened to Callie without interrupting her, glad to see that loving smile back on her friend’s face again. “…and to let it go when we can.”

George is gone…George is dead. No…no, Meredith thought as she softly started sobbing, the tears streaming down her cheeks. Her body shook as she cried, letting all the pain finally seep inside. George was dead…one of her best friends was gone…forever. Meredith’s heart began to ache and the uncontrollable sobbing couldn’t stop anymore. When Derek entered the locker room, he saw Meredith’s face, wet with tears while her entire body shook with sobs. In an instant he was near her, “Meredith.” “The very worst part is that the minute you think you’re past it…it starts all over again.” At the sound of Derek saying her name, another sob escaped her throat and she even couldn’t hide it anymore; the weights of her grieve too heavy. Sadness had weighed down her eyes with raw tears over the loss of George and she was almost falling over the edge of her sadness when Derek sat down beside her. He wrapped his arms around her and rested his head on her shoulder; relieved Meredith finally showed her emotions. He just held her as she cried, making sure she knew he was there for her. When Meredith finally regained more control, Derek kissed her forehead. She remained in his arms as she cried silently. When Derek slightly pulled away, Meredith looked up at him, “George is gone!” Derek nodded, “I know…baby. I know.” …………………………… Lying down on the bed, Meredith soon drifted off into restless sleep. Her dreams were filled of George and how he’d scribbled 0-0-7 in her hand. She woke with a start but Derek held her as she sobbed again. When exhaustion finally kicked in, she drifted off to sleep again. The next morning, Meredith awoke early, Derek still sleeping beside her. She got out of bed carefully, so not to wake him, going downstairs silently. When she reached the hallway, she saw the picture; the picture of the five of them, starting out as interns at Seattle Grace Hospital. Meredith walked over to the photo and stared at it. She didn’t know how long she’d stood there, tears watering her eyes again when Derek came up behind her. He pulled her against him as tightly as he could and whispered, “It’s OK…just let it all out.” Meredith shuddered and burrowed against Derek as she trembled with renewed emotions. “Hold me Derek. Just hold me.”

Derek sighed and scooped Meredith up in his arms, climbing the stairs back to their bedroom. He sat down on the edge of the bed, cradling Meredith like a child. When her crying had subsided to occasional sniffles, she glanced up at him, “P…promise me…you’ll never jump in front of a b…bus to save someone, “she hiccupped. “I promise,” Derek smiled ad he edged her even closer to him. They stayed that way for quite a while, comfortable in each other’s arms. Meredith finally separated herself from him, although Derek seemed reluctant to let her go. She looked down on him, taking in a deep breath, “I know what had a lot of s.e.x. the last couple of days but now I want you to make love to me Derek.” “Meredith? Are you…?” “Make love to me Derek,” she whispered again, her fingers moving along his chest. Derek pulled her into his arms, capturing Meredith’s lips with his. She needed this. He needed this. He felt her yearning, her need to be consoled. “I love you,” he whispered against her lips. Meredith smiled as she saw the tenderness in his eyes. Derek’s lips wandered down her neck as he carefully pushed her down onto the bed. He quickly pulled off his shirt and let it tumble to the floor. His fingertips ran lightly over her lips. Softly he kissed her and gently he caressed her. Meredith sat up and pulled her own shirt off then she reached down and unbuttoned Derek’s pants. When they were both naked, Derek watched how Meredith’s fingers ran down his chest, her eyes following the trail her fingers made. When her hand wrapped around him, he gasped, looking up into her face. He reached down and pulled her u to him. He cupped the back of Meredith’s head and kissed her deeply, slowly rolling over her placing her under him. He held his breath as he positioned himself between her thighs. Slowly he pushed forward while he brought one hand up to caress Meredith’s cheek. “Mer….” The love in her eyes touched him and he watched her face as he thrust deeply inside her. Slowly he moved his hips as he captured her lips. Meredith choked back the tears that threaten to spill at this beautiful moment. She reached up and pulled Derek closer, wanting to feel his entire body against hers as he gently made love to her. “I love you,” she murmured as she felt that wonderful feeling building and then…she surrendered to it. Derek’s caresses, the way he moved in and out of her, his soft kisses…she felt it all. As the waves slowly subsided, Derek’s moans drew her attention. She looked up into his face as he started thrusting faster, eyes closed. “Derek…please look at me,” she whispered. Derek opened his eyes and looked deeply into Meredith’s eyes as his orgasm hit. She shuddered looking at the pleasure etched on his handsome face. The soft way he whispered her name as he kissed her again, warmed her heart. She held him tightly, wanting to feel him against her. She closed her eyes and a warm smile curved her lips. The memories of George would be forever marked on her soul. That was what he’d left her. Nothing would ever fade, especially the memories of him. And the love… “And always…every time… Cristina and Owen lay together in complete bliss when it finally hit her. She swallowed and gasped, “George O’Malley died.” …it takes your breath away.”
