Stars in Rewind: Patrick Dempsey is a Dancing Fool - Posted Nov 21st 2007 In the new Disney movie Enchanted, Patrick Dempsey (aka Dr. McDreamy) shows off some classy moves on the ballroom floor. When he's done, Amy Adams mentions that he had previously told her he can't dance. He corrects her, saying that he can dance, he just doesn't dance (normally, anyway). While watching the scene, I thought to myself: has Giselle (Adams' character's name) never seen Can't Buy Me Love? Of course Patrick Dempsey can dance. In fact, he's able to turn an African ritual into a hot new craze at his high school dance, as you can see in the video above. I wonder who is more embarrassed of that scene from twenty years ago, Disney or Dempsey. Maybe it's because I'm not female, but I much prefer the Patrick Dempsey of old -- back when he was super dorky, but he could still get a girl by spending $1000 on her or, tables turned, pimping himself out to married women by way of a very special pizza delivery offer. Or, there's that time he accidentally got a female roommate thanks to a college housing error, and she ended up falling for him. But my favorite Dempsey movie is Coupe de Ville, in which he plays my younger brother, while I was played by Arye Gross and my older brother was played by Daniel Stern, as we drive to Florida in the titular old auto. He plays a New Yorker in the comedy about Disney cartoon characters who come to life in the middle of a live action and very active Manhattan. For most of the movie Dempsey's character has to explain what's happening in a very serious way while Amy Adams plays the princess to many laughs as does James Marsden defining the witless prince to big guffaws. This time it's the target of "Enchanted," a movie that isn't afraid to have fun with some of old Walt's more famous characters. The difference this time? "Enchanted" was made by Disney. Member #23 Joined: October 25, 2006	Dempsey shifts gears for Universal - July 16, 2009 Actor to star in film, based on Stein novel 'Racing' Universal Pictures has acquired screen rights to "The Art of Racing in the Rain." Studio will develop the bestselling Garth Stein novel as a starring vehicle for Patrick Dempsey. The book is driven by the reminiscences of Enzo, a family dog with a near-human soul and a philosopher's mind, who evaluates his life through the lessons learned by his human owner, the race-car driver Denny Swift. Dempsey, who'll play Swift, is an accomplished pro race car driver and car owner who most recently drove Le Mans and finished ninth in the race. He also races in the American Rolex Series and owns Dempsey Racing, a team that has a deal with Mazda. Neal Moritz will produce with Dempsey and Joanie Burstein. Starbucks Entertainment will be executive producer, its involvement coming after the book was chosen as a Starbucks spring/summer book selection when it was published in 2008. Between seasons of playing the heartthrob surgeon McDreamy in "Grey's Anatomy," Dempsey most recently starred in the Moritz-produced "Made of Honor" for Sony and "Enchanted" for Disney.
