Hollywood PrivacyWatch: Sandra Oh and Eric Stoltz - January 22, 2009
1/11 — Last Sunday my girlfriends and I went to Hugo's in the Valley, and who should we spot hanging out in the parking lot (there was a 25-minute wait) but SANDRA OH and ERIC STOLTZ — together. They were there with 5 or 6 other people, but it was clear they were pretty intimate. She was wearing gym clothes, including a large brown hood which she even wore inside the restaurant, which seemed a little odd as it was about 85 degrees. He was wearing an unfortunate beard, but still looked pretty McDreamy. Or McPulpFiction-y. Not at all McMask-y. My friend went over and gave them her card and they were lovely to her. But that hood and that beard, they really have to go

Sandra Oh Still Not Optimistic About 'Grey's' Future Despite DGA Deal - Monday, January 21, 2008
Late last week, the Directors Guild of America (DGA) struck a tentative deal with the Association of the Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), leading many to speculate that it could spell the end of the ongoing writers' strike that has severely disrupted the 2007-08 television season.
Grey's Anatomy star Sandra Oh isn't too optimistic, however, downplaying hopes that the show's current season is salvageable.
"The longer we're out, the less chance we have of completing the season," she told Sun Media from Park City, Utah, where she is serving as a festival juror for this year's Sundance. "I don't know the (DGA) deal. I don't necessarily think the DGA and the WGA have the same needs... But everyone wants to go back to work. I was out on the line the other day and the writers are really, really suffering."

'Grey's' Star Happy with the Direction her Character is Taking - Saturday, December 08, 2007
Last season's Grey's Anatomy didn't end that well for Sandra Oh's character, Dr. Cristina Yang. Her fiancé, Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), called off their wedding, and when she returned to the apartment they shared, all of his belongings were gone.
This season isn't going so smoothly for the heartbroken Cristina, either, as she is now butting heads with Burke's replacement, Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith). Oh, however, is happy about the direction her character is taking.
"I really think the show is about women and hopefully it will keep exploring what it's like to be a female doctor. I am hoping their relationship will delve into that," Oh told The Canadian Press. "It's interesting, whatever's going on there - it's a good obstacle for Cristina, because she's so driven. What do you when you're like Cristina and suddenly you have a huge obstacle in your path?"
Speaking of obstacles, Grey's Anatomy itself has run into a big one, with production shutting down last month due to the ongoing writers' strike. Sandra Oh, however, was among the first cast members to join the scribes on the picket lines.
“This is the most important industry strike ever,” she said. “It speaks tremendously to how the media is run globally now, and the rights of thousands and thousands of workers. I am really hoping that the producers come to the table and are fair to the writers."
A native of Ontario, Canada, Oh said that she and Canadian crew members of the show have been discussing the strike “in a way that is much more socialist-based than the Americans.”
"We get the point. We're like: 'Absolutely you have to strike,'” Sandra Oh said.
Despite the uncertainty brought about by the strike, Oh is not worried about the show losing viewers should the picketing last for a long period of time.
"Grey's [Anatomy] is really strong and we have a loyal following,” she said.

Writers deserve to prevail in ongoing strike, says Canada's Sandra Oh
TORONTO - Sandra Oh may look every inch the Hollywood star, stylishly dressed Monday in head-to-toe black save for a chunky grey knit shawl, but get her talking about the ongoing screenwriters strike in Hollywood and her Canadian sensibility comes blasting through.
"There are some Canadian crew members on 'Grey's Anatomy' and myself and the Canadian crew are talking about the strike in a way that is much more socialist-based than the Americans," the 36-year-old actress said in an interview with The Canadian Press. "We get the point. We're like: 'Absolutely you have to strike.' This is the most important industry strike ever. It speaks tremendously to how the media is run globally now, and the rights of thousands and thousands of workers. I am really hoping that the producers come to the table and are fair to the writers."
Oh was in town Monday to be honoured by the Women in Film and Television organization with this year's CTV International Achievement Award for her work.
It was a good day for the Ottawa-based Oh family - Oh's beaming parents were on hand to watch their daughter get feted by her Canadian peers while her brother, Raymond, was spending the day doing his final oral exam on his PhD thesis on medical genetics at the University of Toronto.
"I am extremely proud of him," Oh says, crediting her South Korean-born parents with their children's successes. Her sister, Grace, is a B.C. Crown attorney.
"They were extremely loving parents but they were also really, really disciplined. They were tough on us. Their expectations were high; they're still very high."
It's family, in fact, that has kept Oh so grounded, she says.
"People are crazy. Actors are crazy. And when you go down to L.A., people are crazier. And fortunately I had an extremely stable, loving upbringing. My siblings and I are very close, and that means something."
Oh's acting career began in the early 1990s when she beat out hundreds of other actresses for the coveted title role in the CBC movie "The Diary of Evelyn Lau."
Since then, she's been pretty much unstoppable, starring in films like "Sideways" and "Under the Tuscan Sun" before landing the part of the ferociously ambitious Cristina Yang on the ABC powerhouse hit, "Grey's Anatomy." She's won both a Golden Globe and a Screen Actor's Guild award for the portrayal.
She's delighted with the direction being taken by her heartbroken character this season. Cristina was left at the altar by her former boyfriend, played by Isaiah Washington, and now she's butting heads with his female replacement, Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith).
"I really think the show is about women and hopefully it will keep exploring what it's like to be a female doctor. I am hoping their relationship will delve into that," Oh says. "It's interesting, whatever's going on there - it's a good obstacle for Cristina, because she's so driven. What do you when you're like Cristina and suddenly you have a huge obstacle in your path?"
Pre-strike, the "Grey's" set was a considerably calmer place this year, Oh says, but is quick to add that the peace isn't entirely due to Washington's absence. The actor was fired from the show after making homophobic remarks about co-star T.R. Knight.
"I'm not going to put everything on him because that's not the case and everything that happened, it's almost impossible to comment on," she said.
"But I can tell you that this year the set and the production has found an easier footing. I think that has to do with being in Season Four, and the popularity of "Grey's" cresting and finding a good foothold because it was madness for a couple of years, it really was. I think people are now managing their stress levels a lot better."
Oh says she's not too concerned that viewers may forever tune out of "Grey's" if the strike drags on for a long time.
"'Grey's' is really strong and we have a loyal following. If anything, hopefully we can tell them we want to bring you the show, but write to Disney."
For now, Oh says she's simply delighted to be back home for a few days and is revelling in that most dreaded of Canadian institutions - winter.
"Stepping out into that Ottawa air - it was like a winter wonderland, there was all this beautiful snow," Oh said wistfully of her arrival in Canada a few days ago.
"Los Angeles has the most amazing weather, but it's a giant summer. For me, in fact, it's been a 12-year summer. I miss winter terribly, I really do."

Out Magazine: Oh, Sandra! - Monday, November 12, 2007
In Out’s June Hot Issue, Sandra Oh is Hottest Gay Icon in the Making. In exclusive outtakes from our chat with the actress, best-known these days for playing the acerbic Dr. Christina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy, talks about her late-blooming sexuality and why she understands people who stay in the closet.

Have you always felt the gay love?
I don’t know when that started really happening. That’s when you really get a sense of who’s watching. I have always felt it as a presence, but for real I did Diana Son’s play Stop Kiss at the Public in ’99. I have played a lot of gay characters in theater before, but this was the first piece of theater that a lot of people saw. And then Under the Tuscan Sun, too, there was a lot more notice. But it’s grown as my career has grown. It’s good love to have.................cont’d

Sandra Oh’s Writers Strike Speech - Tue, 27 November 2007
Grey’s Anatomy actress Sandra Oh, aka Dr. Cristina Yang, gets fired up while giving a speech at last Wednesday’s Hollywood Labor Solidarity Rally.

If you don’t know what’s going on with the writers strike, listen to the Oh’s speech. Basically, The Writers Guild of America went on strike three weeks ago over payment for work aired on the Web. Writers are seeking their fair share of revenue from six media conglomerates: Disney, Viacom, GE, News Corp, Sony and Time Warner.

On a good note, WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are closing in on a deal. Something should be in place by January 1, 2008......................... 2 videos

Grey's Anatomy: What's Next for Cristina Yang? - August 28, 2007
We all know the story. Sandra Oh's character on Grey's Anatomy, Cristina Yang, was affected by the behind-the-scenes scandal involving her on-screen beau Isaiah Washington. ABC and Shonda Rhimes decided to eviscerate Washington from the cast and therefore end the on-screen relationship between his Dr. Preston Burke and Cristina. The final episode of Grey's Anatomy's third season ended with the botched marriage of those characters and Cristina is going to find herself alone at the outset of season 4. So, where does she go from here?.......................cont’d.................

Sandra Oh - July 20th, 2007
As everyone’s favorite overly-ambitious surgical intern, Sandra Oh, born on this day in 1971, has been welcomed into millions of American living rooms each week on “Grey’s Anatomy.” But the native Canadian began her career long before landing that prime role on the hit medical drama. Oh had her stage debut at the age of 10 and by 1993 broke through on the small screen with the made-for-television movie “The Diary of Evelyn Lau.” Two years later the young actress had her feature breakthrough and earned a Best Actress Genie Award (Canada’s Oscar equivalent) for her lead role in Double Happiness. The following year introduced Oh to American audiences with her supporting role on the HBO comedy “Arli$$.” Supporting players in popular features The Princess Diaries and Under the Tuscan Sun paved the way for meatier roles in indies such as Sideways, Hard Candy and 3 Needles, plus eventually showcasing her talent to the producers over at “Grey’s.”
Factoid: Sandra Oh has received the most critical acclaim to date with her award-winning role as Dr. Christina Yang on “Grey’s Anatomy,” but previously the actress had been honored with awards from SAG (Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for 2004’s breakout hit Sideways) and by the Milan International Film Festival (Best Acting for 2000’s Dancing at the Blue Iguana).

GO! "The Gayest Music Of All Time" hosted by Sandra Oh -
Golden Globe-winning actress Sandra Oh will host the June 23 season finale of CBC Radio One's Go, titled "The Gayest Music of All Time" in honour of Gay Pride weekend across North America.
Go, usually taped before a live audience, was pretaped to accommodate the Nepean, Ont.-born star of popular medical drama Grey's Anatomy.
"She came in with her parents and had a ball taping it," said Go producer David Carroll.
The show features a mix of fun music associated with gay culture, including Cher, Pet Shop Boys, Madonna and Judy Garland. It's one of an infrequent series on Go featuring guests hosts taking on unusual projects. Lister Sinclair once hosted a show about the masters of disco and Canadian Opera Company artistic director Richard Bradshaw hosted one featuring popular classics of love.
Oh trained at Montreal's National Theatre School and starred on the Canadian stage and in The Diary of Evelyn Lau before being drawn to the bright lights of Hollywood. Among her movie work, Oh had a major role in Sideways, which won a best screenplay Oscar for her former husband American filmmaker Alexander Payne.
Oh earned a Golden Globe for her role on Grey's Anatomy, where she worked with Isaiah Washington, the actor who earned a rebuke, and was eventually fired, for a slur aimed at a gay colleague.
The show will be broadcast on CBC Radio One on Saturday, June 23rd at 10.00 a.m. EDT.
