Still Wrapped Up With "The Capeman" - April 5, 2008
The cast included Marc Anthony as young Sal, Ruben Blades as the older Sal, and Sara Ramirez, who seven years later would win a Tony for her scene-stealing role as The Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, making her Broadway debut as the pen pal who befriends Sal when he’s in prison.

Sara Ramirez to Return to the Stage - Posted on December 13th, 2007
It surely will be tempting for Sara (pronounced Sah-rah) Ramirez to break into song this weekend while she’s narrating Prokofiev’s “Peter & the Wolf” in performances by the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra.

“I can see myself turning around and saying, ‘Can I get a Frank Sinatra tune?’” says the Grey’s Anatomy star with a contagious laugh.
“You’re on the stage with (an orchestra), and it just blows you away. It’s like you’ve got this powerhouse sound coming from behind you, and it’s so cool,” she continues. “So to be involved with it again in any way, shape or form is really exciting to me.”................more to read

Underused TV characters -
Callie Torres (“Grey’s Anatomy,” ABC)
Image: Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez)ABCNow that Callie and George are divorced — or getting there — there’s little reason for her to stick around unless “Grey’s” writers can make her interesting again. There’s still drama to be had, considering she still has to work with George and Izzie, the other woman. She also once hooked up with Dr. Sloan, aka McSteamy. But the idea from last season that she’s a trust-fund baby went nowhere and she was just booted as chief resident, her apparently last gasp at holding a place of any significance. She’ll continue to simply fade into the background unless a change is made — stat!

Sara Ramirez Discusses Callie Torres, Broadway - Posted on October 29th, 2007
Sara Ramirez didn’t join the cast of Grey’s Anatomy until Season Two and was not made a full-time cast member until the start of Season Three.
But Sara Ramirez’s character of Dr. Callie Torres - recently promoted to Seattle Grace chief resident - sure is in the thick of things here in Season Four.
In fact, Calliope’s turbulent love life has been getting a large part of the attention this season, thanks to a possible split from husband George O’Malley (T.R. Knight), who had an affair with his best friend Izzie...........cont’d.

"Grey's Anatomy's" Sara Ramirez still thinking of Broadway - 10/28/2007 12:18:33 AM PDT
Sara Ramirez didn't join the cast of "Grey's Anatomy" until its second season. But her character of Dr. Callie Torres - recently promoted to chief resident - is in the thick of things. Callie's love life has been getting most of the attention lately, focusing on her messy split from George O'Malley (T.R. Knight).

"Like all the other characters on the show, I think Callie has her flaws, her issues, her hang-ups. We don't know all the ins-and-outs of why she truly was with George. I think there was a pure love there but I'm sure Callie has other issues behind clinging onto something that just isn't right," Ramirez said.

While the role on "Grey's" has made Sara (pronounced Sa-Da) known to television audiences, the New York theater scene has been aware of her for some time now. She won the 2005 Tony Award for her performance as The Lady of the Lake in "Monty Python's Spamalot."

Sara is certain she will return to the stage at some point: "I consider New York and theater my home, my home base where I sort of grew up. I miss it and I hope they'll have me back whether it's a musical - it doesn't have to be on Broadway - or a play. I'm up for that. I miss the theater, I miss the whole symbiotic relationship between actor and audience and being on stage. The live factor."

Ramirez, Knight to Return to "Grey's Anatomy" - Saturday, June 16, 2007
Sara Ramirez, T.R. Knight and pretty much everybody else sans the dismissed actor Isaiah Washington and California-bound Kate Walsh is coming back to ABC's popular medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" for a fourth season.
Although even some of the actors, namely T.R. Knight, had publicly speculated if they would be returning to the set of the red-hot ABC drama next month or not, TV Guide confirmed on Friday that, except for Washington, all "Grey's" stars were informed by ABC that their contract options had been picked up.

Rumor: Sara Ramirez is following Isaiah Washington out the door on Grey's.
Fiction. On June 7, all of the principal actors on Grey's (with the exception of Washington) were informed by ABC that their contract options had been picked up.

Is Sara Ramirez Leaving "Grey's Anatomy"? - Monday, April 23, 2007
Tony-winner Sara Ramirez who plays the feisty Callie Torez on ABC's mega-hit "Grey's Anatomy" has signed a deal to record her own album. "Am I back next season?" she asks TV Guide with a laugh. The actress, who is pictured above at last week's event "Escada And Jessica Alba Toast Step Up Womens Network" where she was honored for mentoring young girls, revealed that Eric Idle and John Du Prez, the writers of Spamalot, are writing her album. The Mexico native may only be joking about leaving the hit medical drama, but there have been rumors not only about her departure, but the departure of her colleagues Isaiah Washington and T.R. Knight as well. Sources close to the show reveal to E! Online that there is no reason to worry as all these rumors are untrue (T.R.'s rep was the only one who officially denied them), then again things tend to change in Seattle Grace at the very last moment. As for the close future, Ramirez says: "I think [Callie] knows her relationship with George is in sort of a delicate place, but she’s a strong lady. She knows what she wants so I’m sure she’ll go to any lengths to get it!"

Sara Ramirez: I've Got A New Record Deal - 23 April 2007
We’ve already seen her rock out in her underwear on Grey’s Anatomy. Now Tony-winning actress Sara Ramirez, who plays George’s (T.R. Knight) feisty wife, Callie, has signed a deal to record her own album. “All I can say is that Eric Idle and John Du Prez, who were the writers of Spamalot, are writing the album,” Ramirez told TV Guide at the Step Up Inspiration Awards where she was honored for mentoring young girls.

Although her lips are sealed about the disc’s sound, Ramirez — who has already inked a contract with Universal Music Group — did reveal that she’d spend her summer break from Grey’s in the studio recording the album.

But the Mexico native did let a few details slip about the love triangle brewing between George, Callie and Izzie. “Callie is just showing up doing her job, oblivious to everything,” says Ramirez. So will she call it quits after discovering George slept with ex-model Izzie? “I think she knows her relationship with George is in sort of a delicate place,” she hints. “But she’s a strong lady. She knows what she wants so I’m sure she’ll go to any lengths to get it!”

Hopefully, this means we’ll see more of Callie next season — but Ramirez isn’t talking just yet. “Am I back next season?” she asks with a laugh. “Maybe. This character’s just been so much fun to play. Acting with this group of people has been a master class in episodic television. For now, I’m just enjoying the ride.” —Reporting by Dana Meltzer Zepeda

'Grey's' Actress Donates $20K To Local School - Feb 26, 2009
"Grey's Anatomy" actress and 2005 Tony Award winner Sara Ramirez has donated $20,000 to the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, the San Diego Unified School District announced Thursday.
2. Ramirez, who attended the school from fourth through 12th grade, has played Dr. Callie Torres on the popular ABC television show since 2006 and won her stage award for best performance by a featured actress in a musical for her role as The Lady in the Lake in Monty Python's "Spamalot."
SCPA "played a huge role in where and who I am today so I would like to take this time to give a little something back," said Ramirez, who grew up in Tierrasanta.
The money will be split among the school's drama, music and dance departments as well as a piano fund.
The native of Mazatlan, Mexico, has also appeared in the films "Spiderman," "You've Got Mail" and "Washington Heights."

Sarah Ramirez got hate mail for playing a lesbian - Mar 19, 2009
Grey's Anatomy star Sarah Ramirez told the NY Daily News she received hate mail from a viewer because she had played a lesbian character on the fictional TV show.

The mutlitalented voluptulicious actress and singer told the newspaper that, "a Callie fan who said she will no longer be watching the show because Callie went down that road, and that made me sad. But in my family, my aunts are Catholic, and they watch it and are so supportive! I’m not one to tell people what to think, but I would like to encourage people to open their hearts because it’s 2009, and we’ve elected an African-American President. Come on guys, let’s get over it."

Gomez could not have said it better ourselves. That's both because our mouths are full of pan dulce, and because we don't star in a popular TV show. Even if we did star in a popular TV show, Gomez is certain no sane producer would ever ask us to play a sexual being for public viewing, straight or otherwise, unless they wanted to lose ratings. Cupcake, anyone?

Sara Ramirez knows she's living the good life.

After wrapping up a Tony-award-winning run on Broadway as The Lady of the Lake in the smash Monty Python hit "Spamalot," the Mazatlan, Mexico-born actress virtually stepped straight from the stage onto the small screen when another bona fide hit came calling.

Once just a fan of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," she now brings Dr. Callie Torres to life, a role that was written specifically for her by the show's creator, Shonda Rhimes. "It's really a gift," Ramirez told Conexión while driving in Los Angeles on a recent afternoon. "I've never experienced anything like this. It's actually very exciting and scary at the same time, but it's fun."

Though Ramirez is "sworn to secrecy" by Rhimes about her character's past or future, Callie thus far appears to be a potential love interest for the show's resident lovable loser, Dr. George O'Malley. The secrecy surrounding the show's storylines "is one of the smartest things I've ever seen because when you start
spreading your storylines, people get less interested. It's worth the wait. The writing is so good, it hooks you -- it just hooks you."

"Grey's Anatomy" isn't just another job for Ramirez, though. The show's ethnically diverse characters and the fact that they're not stereotypical roles and personalities was something Ramirez could appreciate even before she was cast as one.

"When I saw 'Grey's Anatomy,' I thought 'Oh my God, these are people I feel I relate to.' Like 'Oh, there's the Asian girl who doesn't have an accent.' For someone like me who was born in Mexico, raised in San Diego, lost my
accent and became a Valley Girl, sometimes people assume who you are based on your ethnic features." They "assume things about your intelligence and how well you may be able to articulate a point. Those are the kinds of issues that 'Grey's Anatomy' triggered in me, and I love that."

Ramirez is scheduled to appear in seven episodes of the series, but that may or may not be the duration of Torres' rotation. Kate Walsh, the regular cast member who plays Dr. Addison Montgomery Shepherd, originally was signed
for only five episodes.

Ramirez spent the first eight years of her life in Sinaloa, where she was raised by her Irish-American mother -- a former actress -- and her Mexican father. Ramirez's mother cultivated a creative atmosphere for her that she credits for her love of acting.

But, she recalled while juggling her I.D. card and phone to access the studio lot where "Grey's" is taped, it was after participating in "Into the Woods" and "A Chorus Line" in high school in San Diego that she knew she was destined to be an actress."I just started thinking (about) all the sacrifices I'd made with my time and I thought 'I must really love this if this is how much time I'm spending on it.' Then you keep doing it because you love it so much you can't imagine doing anything else."

As she made her way to makeup and hair, Ramirez tried thinking of down sides to her current gig. She couldn't."Every time I roll in here, I just think 'What?!' They shoot 'The Shield' right next to us, and it's just so exciting because I'm aware of the fact that I'm living the dream," she said."I'm an actor and I'm working -- on a hit show with amazing actors and amazing writers. Every day I'm just like, 'Oh

my God!' I get giggly about it. It's such a great feeling."

And with that, she was off for another long but gratifying day at the office.
