During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show set to air Wednesday, the actor, 36, admitted he and his wife of four years, actress Rebecca Gayheart, also 36, would like to have children. "We’re currently working on that," he said. But he added the process hasn't been simple. "It’s funny because you get the doctors involved and they call you and it's like, In eight days I’ll have to put in some work," he explained. Then, he said, for four days, "I will be very busy and I probably shouldn’t schedule anything else." DeGeneres then suggested that four days of sex sounded like "tough work." "Hard work," he agreed, "great if you can get it though." The actor also addressed recent rumors that his costars Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight will be leaving the ABC series. (In the past, Heigl has publically expressed unhappiness with her plotlines.) "I worked with them this morning and they were both very present," he said, noting only the show's executive producer, Shonda Rhimes, could comment on their futures. According to my sources, McSteamy's new love is not Izzie, who will be very much occupied elsewhere this year (more on that later). Quite possibly, it seems, with a new woman, if one recent Grey's Anatomy casting call for a guest star who may recur is to be trusted: The eye-catching notice in question described this new character as a female patient in her late 20s or early 30s, but, most important of all, they are looking for "star names only," meaning someone with a recognizable face they could effectively splash all over billboards and TV ads because the character will be in the midst of a hot fling with one of their hot male leads... One other note of interest, this character is "an empowered type A personality." In my humble opinion, this is good for two reasons:McSteamy loves those man-eaters, as evidenced by his crushes on Addy and Hahn 2. This means that the new girl's nickname is a gimme: Little Miss Type A. Just like Reese Witherspoon's nickname, and now that I think about it, Reese would be perfect for the part. In fact, he’s behind the writers all the way. Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd recently told EW that the show could suffer because “we’re not very far ahead scriptwise,” and the strike could “affect a lot of people that are living paycheck to paycheck.” But Dane, who plays Dr. Mark "McSteamy" Sloan sees it differently. When asked whether the writer’s demands were reasonable, Dane said that they “absolutely” were. So what’s Grey’s contingency plan? Dane’s not so sure. “I haven’t been to work in three days. I’ll probably talk to [Grey’s creator] Shonda Rhimes about it later. I don't know if it's the first thing anybody wants to talk about, but I'd certainly like to know [the writers'] position on it. I mean, they're writers and they're on strike, and I'd like to know how they feel about it. We'll have to see.” As for working with Rhimes, “we get along really well.
