Although Your Mama and the Dr. Cooter will watch just about any crap-ass reality program that sees the light of the cathode ray tube, we can not bear those damn hospital dramas which means our gin sotted brain can't ever recall sitting through a single episode of Mister Dempsey's Grey's Anatomy program that people seem to like so much. What we do know about Mister Dempsey we know from reading the gossip glossies, which means we know he–along with that getting awfully big for her britches smokestack Kathy Heigl–has made quite a name for himself strutting around in a white doctor's smock with a scruffy face that all the ladees and the gays want to rub up on. Records show the Mister Dempsey purchased his modestly dignified digs on Chantilly Road in July of 2006 for $3,100,000. Listing information indicates the gated and hedged New England-y nest measures 3,841 square feet and has 4 bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms with two bedrooms "suites" on the ground floor, a master suite on the second and the remaining sleeping chamber located over the garage with its own outdoor stair and entrance. Listing information also shows there are formal living and dining rooms and a chef's kitchen that opens to the family room. Someone worked hard to make the exterior of the white brick and clapboard house authentic to its intended style with the black shutters and dentil molding all up in the eaves. Your Mama really hopes the shutters actually open and close, otherwise it's like wearing eye glasses with non-prescription lenses, which is just stoopid. Fortunately, the front of the property is properly hedged for privacy since the house sits close enough to the road that without that hedge anyone walking their damn dog could easily see what the Dempsey family was having for dessert. We're also swooning over the tree house that sits high up on the hillside and cantilevered over the back yard. What child would not love such a folly? We may be about a hundred years from being a child (and we don't even really like children that much), but if we lived in this house that little porch is where Your Mama would sit in a comfy chair in the early afternoons with a pitcher of gin and tonics re-reading all that poor dead David Foster Wallace's novels and stories and surveying our domain. It seems a bit strange that Mister Dempsey would choose to sell so soon after buying, particularly in this economic climate. This past weekend, Addison got to meet the real McDreamy - or at least the actor who plays him on the hit ABC drama series "Grey's Anatomy." Patrick Dempsey - who stars as the hunky Dr. Derek Shepherd, or "McDreamy," as he is more affectionately known to his many female fans - took a half-hour out of his Saturday afternoon to visit Addison at Birmingham's Children's Hospital, where she has been undergoing treatments for leukemia. "How's it going?" Dempsey said as he walked into Addison's room bearing a plastic bag filled with T-shirts, a checkered-flag handbag and other souvenirs from the Barber Motorsports Park, where Dempsey raced in Sunday's KONI Challenge Series GS event. "Can I sit on your bed - is that all right?" Dempsey then asked a giggling and nearly speechless Addison. "You're talkative, aren't you?" he later teased her. In April, three days after her 14th birthday, Addison - or "Addie," as her friends and family call her - was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia, a fast-growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Dempsey's visit came about with the help of Randy Stephens, Addison's track coach at Mountain Brook Junior High School, and "team mom" Julia Holt, who relentlessly stayed after the staff at Zoom Motorsports, the promoters of the Barber racetrack. Once Dempsey found out about Addison and how much she loved "Grey's Anatomy," he made time to see her in between all of his other race-related events. "He could have easily said, `I don't have time,' and we wouldn't have thought any less of him," Stephens said Monday. "I don't think there's anything bigger that he could have done for anyone other than what he did for Addison." Addison has to undergo six months of chemotherapy treatments, and she recently had to go back to Children's Hospital because of a bacterial infection brought on by her low white-blood count. "Him (Dempsey) coming made a huge difference for her as far as getting ready to get better and take on this next treatment," Stephanie Sewell, Addison's mother, said. "It really did inspire her to try to do everything she can to get better." Addison gave Dempsey an orange plastic wristband that all of her friends wear to show their support for her. It's embossed with her name and the message, "Stay Strong." Dempsey said he would wear it on the second episode of next season's "Grey's Anatomy," and he invited her to come visit the cast on the set of the show when she gets better. He also auto-graphed a "McDreamy is watching over you" poster that a friend made for her. Addison puts it on the wall above her bed every time she has to go back to the hospital. It features a People magazine cover of Dempsey holding his twin baby boys. Hanna Nall, Addison's best friend and a teammate on the Birmingham United 93 Angels girls soccer team, was there to get her picture taken with Dempsey, too. Addison can't wait to tell the rest of her friends about her McDreamy visitor. "I told a lot of them, but some of them are at camp," she said Monday. "I wrote them, but I don't know if they've gotten it yet." Addison's father, Hill Sewell, posted pictures of Dempsey's visit on her CaringBridge Web site, where family and friends can go for updates on her condition and to send her messages. Through the extra efforts of several people which include Clark Virden from Barber Race Track ,Julia Holt, Randy Stephens, Susan Coslin and Joni Walker Addison was able to meet “McDreamy” in the flesh !!! For those who do not know who that is it is Patrick Dempsey from the show Grey’s Anatomy. He brought her T-shirts and racing gear. He was able to spend 30 minutes sitting on her bed talking with her. Needless to say she was thrilled. We took many pictures which are on the photo link . We gave him one of Addison’s orange wrist bands which he promises to wear in the one of the shows. While spending time with us, news of McDreamy being here spread through the hospital. Needless to say, there were many photo ops in the hallways. As he left, he gave Addie a big hug and a kiss on the cheek, which she says she will never wash. We really want to thank everyone once again who arranged this and also to Patrick and all of his people to take the time to come and see her. When Addison is well and able to travel we will certainly make a trip to watch a tapping of Grey’s Anatomy. Patrick is a very nice person and we really enjoyed our time with him. Addison is improving her strength every hour it seems . She has been sipping on Gatorade today to see how well her stomach is working . Maybe tomorrow they may try something a little more solid. She is doing her physical therapy in bed to help steady her somewhat wobbly legs. We expect continued improvement through the next several days . Although she had a visitor today we would like to hold off still a little longer on visitors while her WBC continues to go up. We may be here for a while. Needless to say, mom and Addie don’t have much going on right now. Please continue to keep us in your prayers and please pray for all the children and parents here at the hospital. Addison is flying high after her visit from Dr. McDreamy. She was pretty low before he came having been in the ICU for five days. She really didn't want to talk at all nor did she want any visitors. All that has changed. After he left, she asked her mom what does she need to do to get out of the hospital. Then the newspaper article this morning really has her going. The doctors say she may be able to come home tomorrow. Today she has requested a turkey sandwich. Finally, something solid!!!!! If all goes well, she will have a CT scan of her abdomen tomorrow and then go home. Now for the bad part. She has been told she will come back on Tuesday next week for round four. Not much rest for the weary. In any case, lets celebrate getting out. Thanks to every one of you who make it easier through your messages to get through this. We really love you all. EVER!!! - 06/23/2007 Not because I didn't have to pay, but that helped Not because I was sitting next to Patrick Dempsey, McDreamy himself, Gazing into his beautiful face, wanting so badly to run me fingers through his spectacular hair. Listening to him talk about his beautiful wife the whole time and thinking too myself, well more like the voice in my head was screaming 'RAPE HIM just throw him on the table rip off his clothes and rape the Willy while curling your fingers around his hair, tugging at it 'till he screams your name' Because that was good too. It was because of the food...The only thing that distracted me from my evil-evil thoughts was the FOOD. Yup folks, It's that good. Every time my mind would wander back to the awful/hot thing I wanted to do to McDreamy, another course would arrive and BAM. I'd be in food heaven. There was the Crabcakes, the Lobster Bisque, Filet Mignon, King Salmon, This Quail Egg thingamobobie, not sure what it's called but YUM! And a bunch more I cannot remember. What I do remember is that every dish was better than the last. So good in fact that at one point I completely forgot about my plans to...what am i trying to say? I guess the best way to get my point across here is the simplest way. This food was obviously better than sex 'cuz my brain was thinking, 'McWho? McWhat? Gimmy some more McFood!' Just when I thought it was safe to 'talk' to him some more, the deserts came out...David Burke's Cheesecake Lollipop Tree (which is heavely by he way)...This is where McDreamy suggested we share, and BAM the 'rape' thought were back in full force. My brain urging me to 'Do it, come-onnnn, just do it, if you're fast enough you can surprise him and he my not notice that you're 5'2" and he can flick you away like a bug' Anyhoo, as we ate from the tree together, kinda like Adam and Eve swoon I finally got up my nerve, I stood up with purpose, ready to give into my disturbed thought, ready to do the unthinkable, ready to hand my camera to a friend and say 'will you take a picture of us with the tree?'
