One More Month Until McDreamy Returns! - March 27, 2008
Patrick Dempsey and his Porsche were making for a pretty hot pair in LA yesterday. We've been needing a little more McDreamy in our lives, but we've still got another four weeks to go before Grey's Anatomy returns on April 24th. Luckily, we'll be getting a very special bonus — Patrick's Made of Honor hits the theaters May 2nd. So even if we don't get the Derek and Meredith reconciliation most of us are hoping for, we've got a light romantic comedy to help ease the pain.

Patrick Dempsey si racconta su Vanity Fair Italia
http://www.gossippando.it/patrick-dempsey-...ty-fair-italia/

Vanity Fair - 08.01.2008

Quanto è cambiata l'opinione su di me, in poco tempo».

Si stupisce?
«Sono onorato».

Patrick Dempsey: "Sexy daddy"

McDreamy takes his scrubs off and reveals an ambitious plan for the year: become sexier than Matt Damon. With the help of his friend, George Clooney, and a whole new look...

Do you know some people are outraged? According to the People magazine you are the second Sexiest Man Alive. Matt Damon beat you...
"I have to do something to win next year. I must prepare an infallible campaign. I'll ask Clooney, he's an expert. If I'm not mistaken he already won a couple of times."

In early December I had this conversation with Patrick Dempsey in Los Angeles. A couple of weeks later People released the latest issue of the year 2007. He's on the cover, named "Star of the year", a few weeks before his 42nd birthday. Of the two, one: or the campaign promised jokingly by Dempsey happened in a flash or People regretted his decision and made a gesture of reparation. I'm inclined to believe the second. This year it has been virtually impossible to ignore Dempsey. First Grey's Anatomy, the hospital drama, just like ER for Geroge Clooney, gave him an overdue popularity and recently the show reached, in the transition between the third and fourth season, the top of international television success. Then the triumph at the box office (150 million of dollars overseas until now) with "Enchanted", and Doctor Derek Shepherd of Grey's Anatomy stars as the leading man. History repeats itself. It happened to Clooney, now it's Dempsey turn: not just a TV star. In spring it'll be released "Made Of Honor", a romantic comedy, a sort of My Best Friend's Wedding, except with the sexes reversed. Dempsey plays an impenitent bachelor who can always rely on his friend (Michelle Monaghan). When he learns that she has become engaged, he loses his head. It is not hard to imagine how it's going to end, even easier to predict box office success.

It's a golden moment. The only thing missing was Fashion, even that came: you signed a three seasons contract as Versace testimonial.
"Who would have predicted it? How much has changed the opinion about me, in a short time. "

Are you surprised?
"I’m flattered"

(MILAN) Donatella Versace has been bitten by the McDreamy bug. Access Hollywood
Patrick Dempsey Named New Face Of Versace - LOS ANGELES, Calif. (December 2, 2007)

Now you can just call him... McFashionista.
Patrick Dempsey has been announced as the new face of Versace’s upcoming men’s spring/summer line, Access Hollywood has learned.
The “Grey’s Anatomy” heartthrob was photographed for the ad campaign in November by renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino.
“I was thrilled to be asked to be the face of the Versace Men’s campaign,” Dempsey said. “It was so lovely to work with Donatella Versace, she is an iconic and inspirational woman and a wonderful person, not to mention what a pleasure it was to work with Mario Testino too, one of the world’s finest photographers.” For Donatella Versace, Dr. McDreamy was the perfect choice to represent the popular fashion line on a global scale. “Patrick represents everything that is great about this collection - he has that confidence, he is completely comfortable in his own skin, which is so attractive. He is the modern man of today and of course looks fantastic in the clothes,” she said.

Kempt Man of the Hour: Patrick Dempsey - 11/26/07
We’ve never paid a whole lot of attention to Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey, but from the evidence at hand he seems to be one of those fellows who matures well, like a good bottle of Bordeaux. Always a pretty snappy dresser, at 41 he’s finally coming into his own, style-wise.
At a screening for his new movie, the animation-collides-with reality flick Enchanted the other night, Dempsey turned out in a slim, beautifully-fitted two-button coffee-colored suit from Versace’s Spring/Summer ‘08 collection (hitting stores in February), set off by a crisp white shirt and black silk necktie.
A subtle Art Deco-style tie bar emphasized the restrained elegance of the look while the fabrics gave off a subtly luxurious sheen. His next film, the romantic comedy Made of Honor (hitting theaters in May), isn’t really our bag, but he does a good job portraying a stylish clothes horse who drives around in a vintage E-Type Jag picking up chicks. Nice work if you can get it. .............................. loverly photo!!

Style.com - model celebrity - Wednesday, November 21
Donatella has candidly declared Christopher Kane the one to succeed her at Versace, but when it comes to the man endorsing her Spring collection, the designer has kept pointedly silent. Now sources tell us that the mystery model who recently shot the menswear campaign with Mario Testino in Los Angeles is none other than Grey's Anatomy's Patrick Dempsey. Versace has a long history of using megawatt celebrities (Halle Berry, Demi Moore, Madonna) to endorse the brand, but Dempsey's turn has been shrouded in secrecy. Well, the word is out, and it appears Donatella has another Versace man in Dr. McDreamy.

Patrick Dempsey Is Driven - Thursday, November 15, 2007

Dancing Enchanted Dempsey - 14-NOVEMBER-07
Patrick Dempsey, who plays a jaded New York divorce lawyer in Disney's upcoming fantasy musical Enchanted, told SCI FI Wire that his favorite thing about the film was learning the dance steps for the elaborate musical numbers.
"For me, the real exciting part of the movie and the real challenge was certainly the dance numbers," Dempsey said in an interview while promoting the film. "And [John 'Cha Cha' O'Connell], the choreographer, who did Moulin Rouge and Strictly Ballroom and things like that, has a wonderful, sensitive, emotional quality towards his choreography. And when he talks to the dancers, it was really very emotional. And each move meant something. That was really fascinating, to work with him."
Enchanted centers on the relationship between Dempsey's character and a strange girl (played by Amy Adams) who has been transported from the animated world into real life by an evil sorceress (Susan Sarandon). Dempsey is featured in two of the film's major musical sequences, including a costume ball and an elaborate sequence filmed in Central Park.
"I probably enjoyed the rehearsal process with Amy and the ballroom scene and all those numbers more than anything else," Dempsey said. "That was so unusual and different. There's something timeless about it, and very special. There was movie magic in those scenes. Certainly, in Manhattan, shooting in Central Park, that was a phenomenal experience."
Dempsey said part of the reason he took the role was to please a certain fan of Disney musicals, his 5-year-old daughter, Tallulah.
"She's thrilled," Dempsey said of his daughter's reaction to the film. "She really enjoyed the animation part of the movie and the first number with all the animals. She hated Susan Sarandon's character, obviously. She didn't like her at all. She'd bury her head when she'd come on screen. So that was good. But, yeah, that was another reason for doing it, certainly. I go see these movies more than I go see anything else, this type of movie. So it was nice to be able to do something that a family can go see." Enchanted opens Nov. 21.

Patrick Dempsey is Driven - November 15, 2007
With two new films and a fourth season of his hit series, Patrick Dempsey is hitting the accelerator just as hard as ever. Patrick Dempsey cut me off on La Cienega Boulevard. His 3-series BMW convertible was in my rearview mirror long enough for me to recognize the actor's face from his just-released film Coupe de Ville. At the intersection of La Cienega and San Vicente—a tangle of competing traffic lanes well known to Los Angeles body shops—he hit the gas and nipped in ahead of my bumper, forcing me to tap the brakes and watch his taillights speed north past the Beverly Center.

Now, 17 years later, Dempsey sits under the cold fluorescent lights in the cafeteria of the Petersen Automotive Museum, about half a mile from the scene of the infraction, pleading guilty with an explanation. "Oh, that's funny," he says sheepishly. "I did have a BMW convertible." He gives a slow spin to his cup of coffee and looks up. "Well," he says, "if I drive aggressively, I try to signal, so people know. It's irritating when people drive aggressively and they don't signal."

Dempsey OK being People’s No. 2 sexiest man - Sun., Nov. 18, 2007
‘Enchanted’ co-star Amy Adams says McDreamy ‘was robbed!’

Dempsey: `Grey's' role is like marathon - Tue Nov 20, 12:03 PM ET
Patrick Dempsey may be McDreamy on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," but in the future, he'd like to be Old MacDonald.

"I can be perfectly happy living in the country, having a little farm and working occasionally," the 41-year-old actor tells the December issue of Best Life magazine, on newsstands Tuesday.

"If someone calls, I'll go to work, but I am tired of going and putting myself through hell just to get into the room to be prepared, to be professional and to let go of any kind of anger or frustration and then not getting the part."

Last May, Dempsey bought a farm in Maine, where he grew up. The purchase, he says, was a turning point: "It was like, you know what? I'm done. I now know what I want."..................................keep reading

Matt Damon is People’s Sexiest Man Alive - Wed, 14 November 2007 at 8:48 am
Matt Damon takes the top honor in People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive 2007. Here’s what People had to say about the sexiest man alive:
“George Clooney and Brad Pitt have shamelessly campaigned for him since 2001, but this year’s winner was Bourne to the title. “You’ve given an aging suburban dad the ego-boost of a lifetime,” Damon, 32, explained why he couldn’t possibly accept the crown – which perfectly demonstrates many of the reasons we chose him in the first place: irresistible sense of humor, rock solid family man, heart-melting humility.”

Who else made the list? Ryan Reynolds, James McAvoy, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Patrick Dempsey, Dave Annable, Will Smith, Shemar Moore, Ben Affleck, Adrian Grenier, Will Yun Lee and Justin Timberlake.
Find out what People had to say about each of the sexiest men in their slideshow here and check out past Sexiest covers here.

Patrick Dempsey: Mood Is 'A Lot Lighter' on Grey's Set - WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 05, 2007 04:00 PM
He may not be getting much sleep, but Patrick Dempsey is having fun with fatherhood and filming Season 4 of Grey's Anatomy.
The actor tells Extra that his 6-month-old twin sons "are developing beautifully ... It's a lot of fun."
It's a sentiment he echoes when asked about filming the latest installment of his hit TV show: "It's a lot lighter, people are having more fun."
"The energy and the adjustments make a big difference," he says, referring to the departure of Isaiah Washington after an on-set altercation between the stars last season.
Definitely pumped to be back at Seattle Grace, he declares, "I'm going to go save some lives again!"
Dempsey, 41, who races cars on the Hyper Sport racing team, plans to have twins Darby Galen and Sullivan Patrick driving "soon enough."
"You can get those little go carts," he says, but there'll be "no pressure" for them to race like dad.

And I have search hi and low for a link to this article in the Austrialian TV Week magazine. Some of this article does look familiar ?:|

Guess what Patrick Dempsey told us when we spent the day glued to his side on the set of Grey's Anatomy?
Derek and Meredith have finally found domestic bliss in a real relationship!

Later, when I knock on the door of Patrick's tiny dressing-room trailer, he's lying on the couch, surrounded by racing-car magazines and photo's of his new twin boys, Darby and Sullivan, born February 1. It's hard not to notice how incredibly relaxed he is, given that he's the hottest star on television and a father of three (his daughter Tallulah is five). Does anything get to him?

"I'm 41 years old and have had a life in the business," Patrick explains. "I've worked hard to get to this point and survived many years of not being desired at all, and suddenly it's all happening. So I appreciate what is going on, I get the joke and understand when I need to do now and don't take it all seriously."
Surely, playing one of the most romantic characters on TV must have a downside when he goes home to his wife, hair and make-up artist Jillian Fink?

"You go home and you realise you are not that guy, but a normal guy who hasn't taken the trash out and needs to do it and is reminded to take it out," he chuckles. "It's a nice balance to go home to that reality, and come here and do the smoke and mirrors thing with Derek."

But even on-screen, Derek is settling into his own version of domestic bliss. This season he will finally have a real relationship with with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) - one that isn't complicated by ex-wives and other lovers!

"I was so sick of that on-again, off-again thing," Patrick admits bluntly. "I think people liked the longing between us, but I'm glad we are moving forward. Now they're a couple and go through what it takes to be in a serious relationship where they need to communicate more and confront issues from the past."

Patrick is hopeful that Derek will finally mend his friendship with Mark, who betrayed him by sleeping with Derek's wife, Addison (Kate Walsh). That could be complicated, however, by a new rivalry that has nothing to do with romance and everything to with their careers. "They definitely should move forward and resume their friendship," Patrick says cautiously, "but they've got a new conflict coming up which will provide a lot of tesion for the rest of the season."

The interview ends with a knock on the door from production. "Excuse me," Patrick says and jumps up. And not being able to resist, he adds with his best McDreamy grin, "I've got to go back to making love to Ellen Pompeo now!"
SEATTLE GRACE SECRETS
Due to space issues, the dressing-room trailers are divided in half and shared by two actors. To protect their identity, only the character name is printed, but it doesn't take much to guess who inhabits the trailer marked Derek and Meredith! "We are the biggest show on TV and we still can't get bigger trailers," Patrick sighs.

Sexual healing;
Maine native Dempsey enjoys career rebirth with sensual role on 'Grey's Anatomy'
BYLINE: DALE MCGARRIGLE OF THE NEWS STAFF

F. Scott Fitzgerald was wrong. Patrick Dempsey has discovered there are second acts in American lives.Dempsey, who grew up in the western Maine towns of Turner and Buckfield, is enjoying a resurgent acting career, as part of the ensemble cast of the ABC breakout hit "Grey's Anatomy."

"I certainly appreciate it more the second time around," he said. "I appreciate the joke of fame. I'm working on something that people like, and I'm extremely thankful."

On "Grey's Anatomy," Dempsey, 39, plays Dr. Derek Shepherd, a neurosurgeon and attending physician at a Seattle hospital. Even before the opening credits rolled on the drama's first episode, Shepherd inadvertently had begun a relationship with Dr. Meredith Grey (played by Ellen Pompeo), a new intern at that institution.

Dempsey has been one of the stand-outs in the ensemble's cast. TV Guide named him one of TV's sexiest men. In that article, Pompeo, a Boston native, wrote, "Dr. McDreamy, that's what I call Patrick's character. ... He's gorgeous, he's got a great body and he's got damn fine hair."

Dempsey, who is married to makeup artist Jillian Fink and with whom he has a 3-year-old daughter, Tallulah, takes the sex-symbol talk with a grain of salt.

"I don't take it too seriously," he said in a recent phone interview. "That's created by the writing staff and the media."

With all the new hoopla, Dempsey hasn't gotten home to Maine much this year. (He owns a home in Harpswell, near Brunswick.) He came back for a couple of days this summer to cruise up the coast in a vintage sports car for
a feature in Conde Nast Traveler magazine.

The youngest of three children, Dempsey got his start in Maine as a teenager. He began as a juggler, learning from vaudevillians Benny and Denise Reehl. He moved into acting in 1983, performing with the Maine Acting Company then interning at The Theater at Monmouth.

After winning the Maine preliminaries of the Talent America competition, he dropped out of school, moved to New York and began his acting career in earnest.

Dempsey made his film debut in 1985's "Heaven Help Us." His other films from the late '80s include "Can't Buy Me Love," "In the Mood" and "Loverboy."

Making the transition from teen to adult roles, Dempsey continued to work steadily through the '90s, but he began to get fewer film roles and more TV parts.

Recurring roles on "Will & Grace" and "Once & Again (for which he earned an Emmy nomination), along with a co-starring role in the Reese Witherspoon film "Sweet Home Alabama," brought Dempsey back to the fore.

Still he had to audition for the "Grey's Anatomy" role. "That led to a screen test with Ellen Pompeo, and we had perfect chemistry together," Dempsey recalled.

Shonda Rhimes, creator of "Grey's Anatomy," knew she had the right man when she set eyes on Dempsey. "I was staring at him because he was perfect," she told TV Guide. "We saw plenty of cute guys, but it took a while to find the right balance of humor and sexiness where you could also believe that he could be a brain surgeon."

So how did Dempsey evolve from a gawky teen to a craggily handsome adult?

"Good, clean living," he joked. "I kept at it, kept going to the gym. It's been 20-some-odd years. It's a long haul, but it's all about not giving up."

So what's happening with Derek this season? At the end of last season, it was revealed that he was married but that his wife had cheated on him."Now he's trying to decide whether to honor his marriage vows or to get a divorce and be with his true love, Meredith," Dempsey revealed. "Also, because of his affair with Meredith, his position at the hospital has been compromised." No one in the cast was prepared for the success of "Grey's Anatomy," which forced "Boston Legal" out of the cushy 10 p.m. Sunday timeslot behind "Desperate Housewives."

"We had shot the entire first season before anything was aired," Dempsey explained. "It was a huge surprise that it took off and developed the way it has."

Dempsey enjoys the security of a TV series. "You can relax and get into a rhythm," he said. "It's like going to a real job. I know I'm working until at least May."

What lessons that he learned growing up in Maine have helped him in Hollywood? "There's a sense of accomplishment knowing that this isn't my life, that I can go home again when I want to," he said. "Also my parents' work ethic and attitudes have helped me tremendously. That practicality has certainly helped me."

When "Grey's Anatomy" runs its course, Dempsey can foresee moving back to Maine, acting in theater and making films here. (The family also has a home in Texas, where his wife is from.) "I want to be in control of my own destiny, my own material," he said. "There's a couple of stories in Maine that I'd like to develop. It'd be nice to bring work to Maine."

Chicago Sun Times, February 5, 2006
Playing doctor with hunky Patrick Dempsey: He may be McDreamy on 'Grey's Anatomy,' but he didn't quite make Sexiest Man Alive
BYLINE: Doug Elfman, The Chicago Sun-Times

PAGING DR. MCDREAMY

Patrick Dempsey, who's been in the business more than 20 years, has never been more high profile than now since he has been on "Grey's Anatomy."

Patrick Dempsey, the new George Clooney, ran into the real George Clooney at the Golden Globes. "You're handling things nicely. Keep it up," the original Clooney told him with "a twinkle in his eye," as Dempsey recalls the moment.
"He's very gracious," Dempsey says. "He's a classy movie star. I'm lucky to be compared to him."

On that comparison, Dempsey isn't speaking out of turn. In the past year, he's become known colloquially as "Dr. McDreamy," while playing Dr. Derek Shepherd on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy." People magazine named him the
second-sexiest man alive, citing his "lustrous" hair but not his scruffy, wounded demeanor in "Grey's."

Oddest of all, a January survey of 2,000 people by the Harlequin Romance people suggested that Dempsey is one of four men who respondents would like to meet, along with the Dalai Lama, Hugh Hefner and Kanye West. It's a Clooney-like turnaround for his career. Like the former "ER" star, Dempsey started out as an actor in a sketchy search for good parts -- his credits include "Scream 3," "Meatballs III: Summer Job" and "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" -- only to find fame and sex-symbol status as a TV doctor after the graying of youth.

"I've officially entered middle age," says Dempsey, who turned 40 last month. "Forty is the new 30." His good show is a runaway hit in its second season, so much so that ABC is airing a new episode after Sunday's Super Bowl, instead of "Desperate Housewives." Dempsey may be TV's biggest new star. He is without question the actor women ask me about the most.

In interviews, Dempsey can be described the way he observes Clooney (gracious and classy), answering three obvious questions he must get asked all the time.

1. What does he think about being nicknamed "Dr. McDreamy"?
"It's better than other nicknames," he says with a smile. "It's funny. I just really appreciate the opportunity to go to work, and it's opening doors for me."

2. What would his wife do if he told her he was in love with another woman -- which is what he did on "Grey's Anatomy"?
"Under those circumstances? She'd slug me."

3. Why would his character return to his adulterous wife, when he's clearly in love with the lead character he dated and dumped, Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo)?
Dempsey claims he doesn't really know, but here's his best guess as to why the Shepherds remain together: "It's, like, even though the vows have been broken, he does feel he needs to at least commit to what he did on the altar
and work through it so he can go on, and hopefully [end up] with Meredith."

Dempsey and other cast members say series creator Shonda Rhimes (who grew up in Park Forest) is super secretive about the motivations and arcs of characters. But when Dempsey presses her, she works with him.

"She has a very clear path of where she's taking these characters. She doesn't reveal to us what's going on, which makes it very difficult to inform your choice of how to play a scene.

"But she's also very open when you need some help. So you can go into her office and say, 'I don't buy this, because I personally would not make this choice.' "

Listening to Dempsey on this issue makes it seem like eavesdropping.

"If [Dr. Shepherd] doesn't have a child with [his wife], why is he staying in the relationship? What is it about this relationship that he needs to invest in?" Dempsey asks. "That's slowly coming out."

He's found an actor's solution to the dilemma of not knowing where his character is heading."I make four or five choices, and they can cut it anyway they want to," he says.Despite this challenge, Dempsey is exceedingly grateful for the role. He vows total loyalty."I will stay with the show as long as my contract is there," he says. "We'll see where the character's going, and if
we're still having fun, [but] I have no intention of leaving the show. I will not bite the hand that feeds me."

The appeal of "Grey's" isn't just Dempsey, who was nominated for best actor in a drama at this year's Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild awards. It's the ensemble cast of skilled actors filling fleshed out and quite different characters. Officially, it's a drama. At times, it's a melodrama. Though mostly, it seems comical.

It can even come across like a female "Scrubs." "Scrubs" is a wacky hospital comedy with the stereotypically male humor of slapstick, while "Grey's" plays lightly around serious issues, using female sensibilities. Whereas "Scrubs"

is narrated by a goofy good guy, "Grey's" is narrated by anxious everywoman Meredith, yearning always for meaning and love and comfort, and occasionally a one-night stand from a bar.

Sandra Oh earned a best-actress SAG award and a best-supprting-actress Golden Globe by endearing herself as Meredith's friend Dr. Cristina Yang, who is resistantly in love with Dr. Preston Burke (played with perfect rigidity by
Isaiah Washington). And T.R. Knight is a fan favorite as comically meek but courageous Dr. George O'Malley. Viewers may wonder why Dempsey's TV wife Dr. Addison Shepherd is still in the picture. But Kate Walsh has portrayed her with such delight and distraught tones, the show benefits from her presence, even if the couple's chemistry is nonexistent.

More than most TV shows, "Grey's" does a better job of delving into the nitty-gritties of real life, from unrequited love to day-to-day struggles, albeit in TV's typical broad strokes of caricature portraits. The only thing that
consistently reeks is the off-putting music score, which telescopes emotions with saccharine pizzicato.

Great ratings have led to bigger movie roles for Dempsey. He's slated to film "Freedom Writers" with Hilary Swank, who plays a teacher of at-risk high school students. He and Susan Sarandon are lined up for the part-cartoon, part-live-a ction Disney musical "Enchanted."

Hollywood is guessing Dr. McDreamy is now a visible, maybe more bankable star."I haven't changed in the last year, but people's perceptions of me have," he says. "I'm in people's houses every week. When I first started, television was taboo. You didn't do that. Now you have to have the visibility for people
to get behind you."

He's been picky with the rush of scripts that have come his way."I've turned down a lot this year," says Dempsey, the father of a young daughter. "I'm very hesitant to do things that are violent. As a parent, I don't want to go see that. I want to make sure that the stuff is interesting intellectually. I think the Hilary Swank piece has a lot to say about the education system in this country."

Boxes of scripts were supposed to come his way a long time ago. Back in 1989, Dempsey was featured at the Academy Awards in a disastrous "Break-Out Super Stars of Tomorrow" musical number, along with Corey Feldman, Christian Slater, Ricki Lake, Rob Lowe and a dancing Snow White. But it wasn't until recently that Cosmopolitan named Dempsey its Fun Fearless Male of the Year, In Touch Weekly named him one of the "hottest hunks" on TV, and so on. He's not taking it for granted.

"We're lucky to be working in an industry that's brutal. I've lasted a very long time, and I've worked extremely hard and fought through years of rejection to get to this point. And I'm just enjoying the ride, and I really like the cast a
lot." He isn't even planning to vacation anytime soon.

"I have 10 years of non-work," he says. "I'm ready to go to work."

Ah, yes, but has he asked Matthew McConaughey, who beat him out for People's sexiest man title, to a dance-off?
"No," he says, laughing. "That's cool, though."

Chicago Sun Times
July 25, 2006
Dream on, McDreamy: Torn between two TV lovers, Patrick Dempsey wants them both
BYLINE: Doug Elfman, The Chicago Sun-Times

Patrick Dempsey has an idea. Maybe, just maybe, his "Grey's Anatomy" character, Dr. Derek Shepherd, should slip into a menage a trois with his wife, Dr. Addison Shepherd, and his lover, Dr. Meredith Grey? "I think they should definitely get it on. A threesome would be interesting," he says and chuckles.
Dempsey's notion doesn't surprise Kate Walsh, who plays Addison Shepherd.
"Who knows what goes on in the mind of Dempsey?" Walsh says, amused. "He does say it often, actually. We'll be shooting our elevator scenes, and he'll say, 'Why can't we just all get in bed and work this out?' Typical male response: 'Come on, ladies, there's enough of me!' "

Dempsey -- a k a "Dr. McDreamy," a k a "George Clooney: The Next Generation" -- sees another choice for McDreamy besides choosing between Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Addison. "I think he should just have some random girl that comes out of nowhere," he says, smiling. "You know, a candy striper or something." Dempsey is either kidding or wishful-thinking. He already knows "Grey's" will resolve the long-suffering love triangle

-- a source of annoyance for many fans -- in the first three episodes of its third season. That's why Dempsey was relieved when last season's finale put McDreamy and Meredith back in the sack. "I was like, 'Finally! Thank God we're having sex!' " he says. "I think they should just go on a tear right now and
have sex everywhere in the hospital. And then they get burned out and they have to talk to each other."

Dempsey would also like for the male characters on the show, which has a large female following, to be manlier and not always wishy-washy, at the whim of other women or victims of sexual performance anxiety. "It's important that we don't allow them to be castrated," Dempsey says. He proposes a male-bonding date of sorts for Shepherd and Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), who's in a tempestuous relationship with Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh). They could discuss "what dysfunctional relationships they're involved in, and why that is, and to make sure they do it in a way that keeps their masculinity."

Show creator Shonda Rhimes won't give away story lines for the new season, but she promises the show won't shift tone or direction. " 'Grey's' is gonna stay 'Grey's,' " she says. "We're not veering off into any new crazy directions. Last season, we were able to go on so many different levels emotionally, comedically -- ups and down --and we're gonna do the same thing this season."

Dempsey says the third season is vital, especially since "Grey's" is moving from Sundays to Thursdays on ABC and will compete against CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and NBC's "Deal or No Deal," both powerhouse hits.

"Thank God for Tivo," he says.

And even with the show garnering 11 Emmy nominations this year, no one in the cast has renegotiated a contract, he says. As successful as "Grey's" is, it's still too early to fight for bigger salaries. "I think it's more important that we keep the show running the way it is, and take care of the characters and the
crew and the cast," he says. "And we need to make the transition to Thursday night, and see if we hold, and see if we're a real thing."

PATRICK DEMPSEY ON ...

How he keeps his face consistently scruffy: "I shave the night before." (Some days, he uses a beard trimmer.)

How it feels to being in "hunkville" at age 40 after being much less famous: "It's better than being in the "alternative-ville.' I was there for many years, and I didn't like it."

Female fans who run to him when he's in public with his wife, Jill Fink: "It's disrespectful of my wife. I get that people are enthusiastic and they like the show, but I ask them to be respectful to my family because that's what's
made me what I am, not this other stuff."

Using his TV doctor credentials in real life: "My daughter [Tallulah, 4] had fallen and hurt her chin. I was watching the doctor's technique, and I was like, 'You are not putting stitches on. You're gonna use the liquid Band-Aid
instead. And that's what I want you to use. Now. Please.' I suddenly became Derek Shepherd in the emergency room. I was very authoritative. ... And people were listening." (The doctor didn't know who Dempsey was but
obliged anyway.)

Filming surgery scenes when the dialogue will be dubbed later: "A lot of the time, we don't have the medical terminology, so we just say, 'Medical, medical, bulls---, bulls---, your line.' And then we move on and have a great time. You can just say anything with a mask on."

Fan reaction to McDreamy sleeping with Meredith in last season's finale: "You'll be surprised who [roots] for him to stay with the wife and who doesn't. Like, the mother of 10 says, 'Go with Meredith. Leave your wife.' And then the
single woman's, like, 'Stay with the wife.' And the husbands are, like, 'Stay with the wife.' It's really interesting to see how it affects people."

PORTRAIT Patrick Dempsey – the TV doctor that makes women’s hearts palpitate
Page 1
PATRICK DEMPSEY
plays the neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd in the TV series “Grey’s Anatomy.” When he picks up a scalpel, his fans become seized with tachychardia and faintness. The diagnosis: They have caught the McDreamy disease.

Women love surprises and Patrick Dempsey is a surprise. He came out of nowhere gaining the love of female viewers just a few seconds after the beginning of the series “Grey’s Anatomy,” in 2005, in a scene in which the TV doctor popped up stretched out on a couch, dressed only with a cushion, next to Meredith Grey, with whom he spent the night. We admit it: this unknown had all the characteristics needed to become a women’s idol: ruffled hair like that of kids that build treehouses and dams in streams, a three day beard that at the same time makes him seem virile, rough and fragile due to overwork, blue eyes and naturally narrow hips that keep his loose surgeon’s scrubs as much as a peg used by mountaineers on the north wall of the Eiger. Today, three years later, Patrick Dempsey is one of the most sought after ..Hollywood.. stars. For the part of Doctor Derek Shepherd, the role which – as per his contract – he will continue to play on our TV screens until 2010, the 43 year old has gotten 2 Golden Globe nominations for best actor in a TV drama, and he can also be found catapulted onto the big screen: romantic films such as “Made of Honour” (lit. the love of a witness [in a wedding sense) with Michelle Monaghan or the comedy “Enchanted” (lit. Like a Spell) with Amy Adams have done nothing other than consolidate his image as an ideal man.

If Patrick Dempsey appears completely predictable in the roles he plays, in his private life he is absolutely unpredictable. He married for the first time when he was 21 years old. His marriage to Rochelle “Rocky” Parker, mother of his best friend and his agent, not to mention the fact that she’s 27 years older than him, ended in 1994. Today, when the mother-son relationship that has some to characterise his first marriage is mentioned, he responds jokingly “I probably saw “The Graduate” too many times.” Patrick Dempsey has learnt the lessons of his first marriage - not exactly one of fidelity - and doesn’t intend to make the same mistakes with his second wife Jillian Fink. “Our relationship has been great from the beginning, but that doesn’t mean you should stop working on it.” Patrick and the stylist/Avon creative director have been happily married for ten years, although they began a little roughly: “Our wedding photographers were so drunk that the photos came out pretty unfocussed,” he says laughing. But if the reception was turbulent, the marriage is perfectly balanced and exemplary. “The love of my wife allows me to be myself and to relax,” he states happily during interviews. If the fascinating once heartthrob has also become a dear father, it’s due to the birth of his three children (daughter Tallulah Fyfe, 6, and the twins Darby Galen and Sullivan Patrick, 1). “One day my daughter said to me, ‘You’re really handsome, Daddy.’ Well, it was the best compliment I’ve ever received.”

Other than his roles as actor, father and husband, Dempsey cultivates a very particular hobby: he loves car racing. He races for “Vision Racing Team” in the Panoz GT Pro Raving series and dreams of one day finding himself on the starting grid at ....Le Mans..... For him, the adrenaline is the best way to escape from the trials of daily life. “When you’re racing, you’re concentrating 100 per cent on what you’re doing, and this has a calming effect. Moreover, I love challenges because they teach you to be humble.” And his house, an enormous ranch in ....Maine.... (the state in which he was born), like with the cars, is another example of how he likes to do things big. There are six Jaguars and two Porsches parked in his garage, and for his 40th birthday his wife Jill gave him an elegant Mercedes 280 SL. In general, style is very important to Patrick Dempsey. “I like timeless elegance, to wear well made suits and shirts with cufflinks. In ten years I want to be able to look at my old photos and see a person who’s not running behind all the fads.” As a Versace model, he doesn’t run this risk. Already last year, he was shown in a leather vest and tight and sexy suits in the glamorous Italian fashion house’s publicity campaign. Into 2009, he will continue to be the face of its men’s line. And to think that he – surprise! – is still not really happy with his looks. For 3 years he’s found himself in second place in the list of the world’s sexiest men – once behind Matthew McConaughey, another behind George Clooney, and another after Matt Damon. “My face isn’t perfect, I’ve broken my nose three times, so it’s completely crooked” he observes laconically with a sigh after the third defeat. “Whatever I do, I’ll always be the bridesmaid, never the bride.”

The fact that Patrick Dempsey has become part of this exclusive circle of most loved men almost seems to be by chance. In effect, after he at first entertained the dream of a career as a skier, at 15 he decided to become a clown: he learnt to juggle and to ride a unicycle, and he came third in the “National Competition of Jugglers.” A clown’s red nose instead of a broken one? It certainly wouldn’t have been enough to enter the list of the world’s sexiest men! At 17, as he himself tells it, he left, with a certain ingenuity, for ....New York.... to enrol in an acting course. Following the first theatre tours came other roles as the young charmer, as well as the opposite such as in the light comedy “Can’t Buy Me Love” (lit. playboy in training). Then there was a period of silence. He was about to give up and change jobs, but he decided to try one last casting. He would have accepted any part he was given in the new TV medical series “Grey’s Anatomy.” But instead, he became the fascinating doctor Derek Shepherd – aka McDreamy – who follows in the footsteps of the most handsome TV doctor: George Clooney. Like him, Patrick Dempsey also know an “up” can follow a “down.” ....Hollywood.... is a rather lunatic diva. She’ll fall in love with you really quickly, but will toss you aside just as fast.”

While he takes advantage of the opportunities that are offered to him by the dream factory, he’s not about to renounce his principles. He wouldn’t, for example, be in an action-thriller full of blood. For his kids and “because the world is already full of blood.” The mild TV doctor, in fact, is also in real life a mild person that tries to help others. After his mother Amanda was diagnosed with ovarian cancer – which in the meantime she has fortunately beaten – he founded the “Patrick Dempsey Centre for Cancer Hope and Healing.” It was a huge shock. “For my family the diagnosis was devastating. Many of the internet sites I looked at didn’t give me the information I was after” laments Dempsey. It was for this reason that he decided to found a centre for patients and their families in which they could find help and words of comfort and encouragement. To show how much three years of “Grey’s Anatomy” has had an effect on him, he presents his favourite story that he loves to tell in nearly every interview: My daughter fell and she wounded her chin. The doctor was about to stitch it up but I told him for these types of cases there’s a special glue. The doctor, visibly impressed, listened to his TV neurosurgeon colleague and used the glue. McDreamy – and this is the surprising thing – is in fact so brilliant that as well as producing a narcotic state in women, he also convinces the most expert doctors.

Patrick Dempsey's Dream: To Take Kids on Racing Road Trip - June 08, 2009
If Patrick Dempsey has his way, he'll add bus driver to his résumé.

"I'd love to have a nice bus so I could bring my kids racing with me," the Grey's Anatomy star, 43, told PEOPLE after a qualifying run in his Mazda RX-8 for Friday's Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series in Watkins Glen, N.Y.

For the actor – who qualified for Saturday's Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen at position No. 9, the best in his racing career – balancing his passions with his role as a family man (he has a daughter Talula, 7, and 2-year-old twin sons Darby and Sullivan with makeup-artist wife Jillian) is a delicate balancing act.

"I would be so happy if they were with me when I race," says Dempsey. "The kids are very young so I need to find a great furnished vehicle for all of us so they can be with me on the track."

Off to Le Mans
Dempsey, who is traveling around the world to race in different venues – including next weekend's 24 Hours of Le Mans in France – on his summer break from filming Grey's Anatomy, likens racing to acting.

"I am very focused," he says. "I sit and wait for a race the same way I wait for a scene to be shot on TV or in film. I pace myself emotionally and calm down so when I am on, I am really on."

Even though he has signed for two more years with Grey's Anatomy, when the show breaks for hiatus, Dempsey's professional life is totally devoted to his racing career, which often coincides with fund-raising for favorite charities like br.east cancer.

"When I am not with the kids, I spend all of my off time from the show working toward improving my racing skills," he says. "I love it. I love the healthy competition."

Though his wife and children weren't with him at Saturday's race, his mother, sister and other family members cheered him on. "I grew up ski-racing with my family and to them being here feels like I've come home," he says. "I am looking forward to the day my own kids can be at my side."
