Emmy Trend: Partying With the Parents
Let's face it. When you're a celeb, you probably have your pick of the litter when it comes to nabbing a piece of arm candy for TV's biggest night. Which just makes it all the more admirable when our favorite stars opt out of bringing a here-today, gone-tomorrow date and go with someone who's been there from the very beginning.
This year, several famous faces, often the life of the party, chose as their escorts those who gave them life, including Rainn Wilson, who showed up with dear old dad; Sean "Diddy" Combs, who was accompanied by mom; and Sandra Oh, who was fortunate enough to be flanked by both her folks.
Surprisingly, the person who actually broke his own annual trend of bringing his mother was Jeremy Piven.
"My mom clocked out," said the Entourage star, whose mother was a frequent red carpet fixture. "She's sitting at home with a glass of wine."
A glass she no doubt raised in salute to her son when he walked off with the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Don't sweat it: Few fashion risks at the Emmys
Even with many looks ripped from the high-fashion runways, the risks were few on the red carpet at Sunday night's 60th annual Emmy Awards.Still the payoffs were big for some stars. Christina Applegate, Mariska Hargitay, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sandra Oh were among the confident women who best combined elegance with some personality. What else ruled the red carpet? Gowns in shades of purple; dresses with one shoulder or none; and sweeping updos that helped stars beat the Los Angeles heat. There also were black dresses, white dresses, black-and-white dresses and a lot of shine."Grey's Anatomy" star Oh was one of the big fashion winners, redeeming herself for time previously served on a few worst-dressed lists. Lisa Rinna, TV Guide Network's style commentator, picked Oh as the most improved star. She came in a retro-style black lace dress by Oscar de la Renta with a ribbon sash and a few sparkles on the skirt. They matched her gleaming 5.5-carat (each!) emerald-cut diamond earrings by Bulgari.

A brief translation: credit to Leilah @twop

Behind the scenes of Grey's Anatomy. Patrick Dempsey kisses Ellen Pompeo who is being interviewed as PD arrives to the set. He plants a kiss on her during the interview and then disappears as silently as he came - a real friendship between McDreamy and his Meredith.

Reader Reaction: 'Grey's Anatomy' Emmy Nominations - July 20, 2007
http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anat...atomy-8513.aspx

2007 Emmy Analysis: 'Grey's Anatomy' - July 19, 2007
Grey's Anatomy had a rocky year. Be it the whole Isaiah Washington situation, and the subsequent media fallout, or the general fan disappointment for the direction the show took in the latter stages of the season, it wasn't a smooth ride in the 2006/2007 campaign. The show still had its moments, of course, that make it the massive hit that it is, but the general consensus is that Grey's Anatomy's third season was easily its worst. So, how would this effect its standing when it came to the Emmys? If you've taken a peek at the nominations, which were unveiled this morning, you'll see that there was zero backlash, and the show is being held in as high esteem as ever.

Let's analyze Grey's Anatomy's major Emmy nominations and possible snubs: ........ (cont’d....

Do Academy members even watch TV? - July 19, 2007
‘Boston Legal,’ ‘Grey's’ didn't deserve nods; ‘Friday Night Lights’ snubbed - Why do we even bother? Seriously, why should we even care? It’s obvious at this point that the TV Academy not only doesn’t watch TV, its members don’t read either. Fine, maybe they don’t watch “Friday Night Lights,” but did they not read the rave reviews, the gushing by critics — yes, the people who do watch a lot of TV and know the best things out there — and the fans who were so enraptured by the show that they played a major part in earning “Lights” a season 2 renewal......... 2007 CRYSTAL + LUCY AWARDS ANNOUNCED! - Women In Film
http://www.wif.org/index.php?option=com_co...id=26&Itemid=32

The women of 'Grey's Anatomy' - Wed., Jun. 13, 2007
Cast of femme fatales wins WIF's Lucy Award - If anyone ever needed a 36-hour day, it's the ladies of "Grey's Anatomy."
Performing brain surgery, planning weddings and trying to mend failed relationships are part and parcel of a typical shift for the interns at Seattle Grace Hospital. For actresses Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, Sandra Oh, Kate Walsh, Katherine Heigl and Sara Ramirez -- who will be sharing WIF's Lucy Award with "Grey's" creator Shonda Rhimes -- the constant tumult gives them a chance to bring their characters to the edge of believability, all the while keeping their hardcore audience tuned in for more each Thursday night.
All seem to be benefiting from "Grey's'" good fortune, especially Walsh, who has been given a spinoff, "Private Practice," that landed a place on ABC's fall schedule. On the kudos front, Oh has been nominated twice for an Emmy, and Wilson took home a SAG Award last year for her role as stern but soulful Dr. Bailey.
Bailey remains the show's most stabilizing presence among her fellow high-strung characters. She offers them guidance and perspective when chaos rules the roost.
"I took what was there on the page and tried to breathe as much life into it as I could," Wilson says. "I never sat down with anyone to discuss it."
