(ABC/RON TOM) http://spoilertv-greysanatomy.blogspot.com...things-are.html really big http://www.grey-anatomy.net/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=557 Live from L.A - Grey's Anatomy - March 22, 2008 Grey's Anatomy - Return to glory Grey's returns on April 24th with a whole mess of all-new episodes, and not a moment too soon. If you're like me, you have questions and concerns that need to be addressed, stat! Some thoughts: * Bailey's going to end up having to operate on her husband, isn't she? Then we'll see how grumpy he is about having a world-class surgeon for a wife. * Am I like, the only person on Earth who think that Derek and Rose would make a cute couple? (Ah....YA!!!) Sure, their kiss was a little awkward (and indiscrete) but Derek isn't in the wrong here. He told Meredith that he'd wait - but not forever. Maybe seeing them together will finally snap Mer out of it and she'll realize she wants to be with McDreamy 24 x 7. * So George and Izzie are history, right? It sure looks that way. Man, all that heartache and drama for nothing. * Lexie's turning into a more well-rounded and interesting character. She went through the rite of passage that all Seattle Grace doctors go through - getting too attached to a patient and then watching their artery explode. Well, maybe they don't all specifically endure artery geysers, but you know what I mean. I expect that Lexie will be a little more weary and wise going forward. * Meredith, Meredith, Meredith... She needs a good therapist to get over her family issues and to clarify what she wants in life. * Is there a Mark/Hahn coupling in the works? I don't know, she doesn't seem like his type. Wait a second, what am I saying? Hahn's got a pulse and two X chromosomes - of course she's his type! * Is Ava/Rebecca going to turn into a scary stalker? That's where I see this heading. Alex needs to wake up - she's damaged goods. He should hang out with Lexie, they make a cute couple. So many questions... Just a few short weeks until we get some answers. I am PSYCHED! --Dave Campbell http://blogs.abc.com/livefromla/2008/03/greys-anatomy-.html GUEST STARS Loretta Devine counts her many blessings - April 17, 2008 "I heard that George Michael is using some of my voice tracks on his new album," Loretta Devine joked last week in talking about the musical number she and the singer perform during tonight's season finale of ABC's "Eli Stone." "Well, if he does, he's going to have to pay me," punctuating the line with one of her trademark high-pitched giggles. If Michael does include Devine on his record, it would add another coup for the multitalented actress whose 25-year career has really heated up over the last several years. Whether it's being a regular on "Eli Stone," a recurring role on "Grey's Anatomy," or scene-stealing turns on the stage and screen, Devine seems to be everywhere at once...................In a few weeks, Devine will return to her recurring role on "Grey's Anatomy" as Adele, the estranged wife of Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.). "People come up to me all the time and say, 'Why you so mean to that man?' " she said with another giggle. "I say, 'Well, for one thing, he cheated on me!' " "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes said she was one of Devine's biggest fans: "When I first wrote the part of Adele, Loretta was the only person I talked about playing the role from the very beginning. The very first time you see her, she blows into the hospital, fresh from vacation, furious that her husband has undergone surgery without calling her. I wanted Loretta because I knew, in that one moment, she would deliver the powerful performance of an angry, relieved, stern, loving woman. Because, as far as I'm concerned, Loretta can do anything."............................cont’d http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/...1,6276853.story ................................................ Amy Madigan cast on Grey's Anatomy - Mar 26th 2008 If you want great acting, she will come. The Field of Dreams allusion is purposeful. The leading lady from that film, Amy Madigan, is joining ABC's Grey's Anatomy. The actress who's a past Oscar-nominee for Twice in a Lifetime will have a recurring role, becoming part of the Seattle Grace Hospital coterie on April 24 when the show returns with new episodes....cont'd http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/03/26/amy-madi...-greys-anatomy/ ................................................ Ausiello Report - Mar 19, 2008 5:57 PM Exclusive: Grey's Recruits Two Carnivale Grads! Amy Madigan has booked a multi-episode arc on Grey's Anatomy, sources confirm to me exclusively. The Oscar-nominated thesp — and former co-star of HBO's gone-but-not-forgotten Carnivale — is playing a psychiatrist who, and I'm just speculating here, may be the one to help Meredith get over her commitment issues, thus paving the way for the Mer/Der reunion Shonda Rhimes has been hyping. Meanwhile, Madigan's former Carnivale co-star, Clea DuVall, will fill the "everywoman housewife" role I teased in last week's Ask Ausiello. Her George Clooney-esque husband will be played by Jason O'Mara (Men in Trees, In Justice). I'm guessing one of them will be a patient. Both are on board for two episodes.............photos Oh, Carnivale, how I miss thee…. http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...digan/800035848 Jason O'Mara http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0413573/fullcredits ................................................ Episode 4.12 - Where The Wild Things Are - 17-Mar-2008 Casting: Where The Wild Things Are The George Clooney-type actor they are looking for will play a 40-year-old character named Phillip Robinson. He is described as handsome, rugged and kind. His wife, Jennifer, is a Midwestern type hardworking woman in her late 20s or early 30s. Both will be recurring guest stars. The episode also features Jonah, Phillip's brother, and Otis Shannon, a 60-year-old lonely man. So what's in store for those sexy docs at Seattle Grace? Stills and spoilers, after the jump. http://televisionista.blogspot.com/2008/04...where-wild.html Grey's Anatomy Spoilers - Updated on April 6, 2008 Grey's Anatomy is currently on hiatus. Due to the strike, 16 of the 23 episodes will be completed. The series was renewed for a fifth season. Episode 4.12: Where The Wild Things Are Airdate: April 24, 2008 * new 04/06 - Six weeks after Derek and Meredith ended their relationship and Derek began dating Rose, Meredith and her fellow residents, Alex, Izzie and Cristina, compete in a surgical contest, with Bailey serving as judge. Meanwhile interns George and Lexie adjust to their new, squalid apartment, and Callie finds a friend in her roommate Cristina's nemesis, Erica Hahn. Does the sight of two extremely good-looking young men making out on your TV screen get you excited? If your answer is yes, then I guarantee you at least one of Grey's five post-strike episodes will be very good. According to my Seattle Grace mole, producers are looking for a pair of actors in their twenties to play gay soldiers in love. Interested thesps must be Caucasian, hot and be comfortable sharing a "very romantic kiss" with another dude. BTW, if you're wondering why we teased this item with a photo of Eric Dane, it's because A) the story pertains to Grey's, and B) Dane is a member of that show's cast. Duh. http://www.tvguide.com/Ask-Ausiello#top ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |

SONG TITLE REFERENCE & LYRICS Title reference: The episode title refers to a song by Metallica and a children's book by author Maurice Sendak. Where the Wild Things Are - Metallica So wake up sleepy one Its time to save your world Steal dreams and give to you Shoplift a thought or two All children touch the sun Burn fingers one by one By one Will this earth be good to you? Keep you clean or stained through? So wake up sleepy one Its time to save your world Youre where the wild things are Yeah, toy soldiers off to war Big eyes to open soon Believing all under sun and moon But does heaven know youre here? And did they give you smiles and tears No, no tears Will this earth be good to you? Keep you clean or stained through? So wake up sleepy one Its time to save your world Youre where the wild things are Yeah, toy soldiers off to war You swing your as.s all down Call to arms are drawn out sound Toy horses start the charge make out as well Robots, chessmen standing guard Never surrender All you children touch the sun Burn your fingers one by one Will this earth be good to you? Keep you clean or stained through? So wake up sleepy one Its time to save your world Youre where the wild things are Yeah, toy soldiers off to war Off to war Off to war So close your little eyes We also have the childrens book, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE Oh girls you are gonna love this!!! BOOK SYNOPSIS: This wonderful book is arguably Sendak's best work--and one of the true classics of children's literature. Is there a child--or an adult--who can't relate to young Max, feeling a bit reckless in that wolf suit, pushing authority a bit too far and ending up punished? Perhaps the most appealing element is the wordless series of illustrations in which, after Max begins the "wild rumpus," he and his new friends dance and cavort through six pages of some of the most whimsical, enchanting--and unique--artwork in children's literature. Many children have been known to dance along, hearing the imaginary music playing in Max's head. When Max goes looking for someone to love him best of all, he finds love not on the island of the wild things (even though they did make him king), but at home, as symbolized by his waiting supper--still hot. The message of unconditional parental love is reassuring to young ones and a perfect ending to the story. From the Book: And now," cried Max, "let the wild rumpus start!" From The Book Plot Summary: What does a spirited little boy find when he sails over days and across weeks into a strange land? That wild things aren't so different than he is--and that no matter how wild the rumpus, there's no place like home! PODCAST Podcast for Epi 4.12, "Where The Wild Things Are": Karev sports facial hair, Meredith wins the sparkle pager and George lives in a “crapartment”. We’ll have the lowdown on all that and more in today’s official Grey’s Anatomy podcast, hosted by abc.com. It’s six weeks later in the world of Seattle Grace, and our favorite residents are in the middle of a “lion-fight”. The episode was full of animal references, from bear attacks to Izzie being “sleek like a cheetah”. But we’ll leave it to Executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers to continue the animal allusions. They’re here to chat about the last episode and give you a tiny tease for next week’s new episode, “Piece Of My Heart”, which includes the reappearance of the one and only Addison Forbes Montgomery…. Shonda & Betsy: BB: It feels really, really good to be back, the energy’s really good, everybody’s really excited to be working. It was really nice to see all the writers again and all the cast again… rambles about the commissary… What I actually loved about this episode is that the energy for this episode is amazing, and personally I think that’s got to do with the intern contest that you guys came up with, well the resident contest, which was really such an amazing call back to the competition of these characters. SR: The episode’s called “Where The Wild Things Are” and I loved the contest because we had been talking about animal instincts and what makes people feral and crazy, and we had been talking about what it would be like to see the interns living in the hospital, and came up with this idea of a surgical contest which apparently in some hospitals is a real thing, which makes you feel pretty good about being sick right? BB: Yeah, you go in and you go “Woo, somebody smells!” and it’s not you… SR: But literally they’re earning points for doing procedures, they’re earning points for watching surgeries, they’re earning points for solving medical mysteries and it makes them all a little bit crazy, which I think is great. BB: My favorite moment is when Izzie says “I’m sleek, like a cheetah”, which is great because she is, everybody’s a bit cheetah-like and a bit crazy and wacky. I also really loved that when you win, you get the sparkle pager. SR: We felt really strongly about the sparkle pager, in the writers’ room we were a little bit obsessed with the sparkle pager, and it started off just being you get a prize and we started thinking about what the prize could be, and I kept thinking the best thing in the world would be to get any and every surgery you ever wanted, really. If you’re in this contest, that’s what’s interesting to you. Bailey gives it to them and to me, we just started thinking that it was this pager that Bailey had literally painstakingly hot-glued little glitter things on, we were saying it was a bedazzled pager. For ages, over the years, as it had been passed down she just kept re-gluing all the ones that had fallen off this pager. BB: Well that’s the great moment where you find out that the Chief actually participated in this contest too, all the way back in 19… whatever that would have been and this was a longstanding tradition, way before Bailey even. SR: Yeah, absolutely. BB: So also I have to say, our props person Angela, who is phenomenal, she had quite a selection of pagers, they were pretty fabulous. SR: She brought me about 4 or 5 pagers, I got to pick the one that I thought was the coolest one, I thought it had to be a unisex one… I was pretty hot for the pink bedazzled pager but we thought the red and white was very medical. BB: The other great thing is, if this is “Where the Wild Things Are” and these people fight like animals and it’s highly appropriate for this group of people including Clea DuVall and Jason O’Mara, to come in after the bear attack. SR: As victims of a bear attack, exactly. We spent a lot of time talking about that. Could people be attacked by a bear, and I was saying could they be attacked at the zoo, and then we came up with just - it’s Seattle! You’re not that far from camping in Seattle, so it felt good and necessary and right that they would have been camping and been attacked by a bear. That was awesome. BB: I think both Clea DuVall and Jason O’Mara are terrific in this episode. I think we were really lucky to get Jason, who is in a show called Life On Mars, and also we’ve been a big fan of his for a long time so it was great to get a chance to work with him. SR: Here’s a little tidbit for you guys, he has a very hot Irish accent. So that American accent that he’s doing on the show? Not the way he talks. That’s how good an actor he is. (more rambling about the hot accent) BB: But he plays a wonderful American accent and a tortured character who, I don’t know about you, but if I was his rebound girl I’d be pretty damn happy. SR: That’s what she says! BB: That’s what she says, even though she has that massive skin flap, which is really concerning… I love that, when she takes off her hat and it’s like… Meredith’s expression is like” OK, that’s so not right”, and she’s “What are you looking at?” SR: …. Just a piece of your head hanging off. You got a little something over there to the left… BB: Feel the wind rushing through? That would probably be it. I liked that hat though… SR: Well I spent a lot of time choosing hats too. BB: Well she had to have a hat that was big enough for a skin flap for God’s sake! SR: And that didn’t show the blood… and that looked like a hat that someone would really, really wear… There was a whole hat choosing process with Mimi our costume designer. BB: I liked the tan, we were actually going to don you in a tan. She actually went through a whole hat period, she starting playing round with the whole idea of wearing a hat, which I think would be awesome around the office, except, don’t you think it would be funny to walk in and you have a meeting with Shonda and she’s in a big-ass hat? Not like a casual cap… SR: …like a big giant wide-brimmed… BB: …Southern gothic, big hat with flowers on it or something… or maybe like a hippy hat. SR: Yeah, exactly. BB: But let me simply say that we actually jettisoned that plan. We didn’t end up going with the big hat look. Your hair looked really great the next day. SR: I stopped just short of wearing the hat and then my hair resolved so… BB: Your hair totally resolved itself, which is awesome. Just a little bit of personal sharing, because we know how special that is. SR: Speaking of hair though, people have different hair! Sloan is clean shaven, Karev has some spicy facial hair, and he does look very good with facial hair, and Izzie got a hair cut. BB: She did. She cut off all her pretty blonde hair. SR: Part of what was big about that was I wanted to really show that time had passed, and so I remember calling up Justin three weeks before we started shooting and I said “Start growing your facial hair!” And Katie wanted to cut her hair and I was like “Go for it!” So it actually turned out pretty good, because I felt like it enhanced that feeling that we had been away for a while. BB: So it’s about 6 weeks since we last saw our doctors at Seattle Grace. SR: Meredith sort of finds her ‘thing’ in this episode too, which was really important. I loved the idea that they were all participating so wildly in this contest and Meredith wins, only to realize that it’s not about the contest at all. For me that was what was interesting to see both her and Izzie trying to solve these medical mysteries, and Meredith… I don’t want to talk too much about it because you’ll watch it evolve over the next few episodes, but Meredith proposes this clinical trial to Derek and says “I think I’ve found a way to save lives”, which I think is going to be amazing. And Izzie is sort of left having lost but feeling bad about it, and I loved this feeling, that she was sitting in the clinic licking her wounds (animal instinct) when the Chief comes in and basically tells her that she was in a lion-fight. I loved his lines “The signs you bear are the signs of a competitor. You know you were in a lion-fight, even if you didn’t win doesn’t mean you don’t know how to roar.” To me, that was just amazing in terms of watching her evolution as well, realizing what this contest was about. Plus, she got to work with Cheech Marin who is wonderful. I couldn’t believe he said yes, I couldn’t believe he came in and did it, he was wonderful. BB: That incredible monologue, when he’s livid, which is just one of the best things ever and he’s such a good actor. You see the comedic side of Cheech a lot in things, but you really, really feel for this guy… SR: He’s a really fine actor. BB: Especially when he was getting his spinal tap. SR: … And he was all sad… and I loved the “Fluids and rest? FLUIDS AND REST??” He’s lovely and his part is funny and moving at the same time, which is great. BB: You know what I think is really important is throughout all this, Izzie honestly didn’t think she was abusing this patient, she honestly thought there might be something wrong with him. SR: Well, at the very least she convinced herself there was something wrong with him you know? BB: Well in her conscious she did, yeah. SR: And she was trying very hard to diagnose him and figure it out. And what else is going on is Hahn and Callie becoming better friends than they were when we last saw them just starting to become friends. They’ve been really hanging out together, which is a nightmare for Cristina, because the person she is friends with and roommates with is now best friends with the person who tortures her on a daily basis. BB: It’s pretty much worst case scenario. SR: And she can’t get in! She wants to figure out a way to get in to this nice thing that Callie’s got going, like she can be friends with her - I can be friends with her, maybe it’ll be good for me, and it just never happens. Which I love, I love to watch her fight it and be miserable. BB: What’s great is this is the one area where she really doesn’t have the skill-set, you know? She just bashes up against things, bashes her head against the wall and tries to get in. SR: Making the friends is something Cristina is really not very good at doing. BB: No, nor is she good at friendship subtleties, it’s pretty much just smack up against it… SR: It’s why she and Meredith get along so well. BB: Exactly. SR: They don’t DO any of the subtleties, they just… they are just out there. BB: I think it’s great for Callie, after going through everything she went through with George and wading through the McSteamy muck, that she actually… SR: To get to have a friend… BB: … and have some fun and hang out, and Addison left and Addison was a really good friend of hers, so I feel like it’s a great thing to be able to see the gals hang out and also see a more fun side of Dr Hahn, who can be a bit of a hard-ass, but… SR: It’s nice to see her lighter side and realize that even if she’s mean to Cristina, she’s not mean to everybody. BB: No, and by the way she wears a nice cocktail dress. SR: She does. BB: I noticed, and that black trenchcoat suit in the beginning when they both come in, they both look sort of smart. SR: And Rob was not happy about the costume budget that day. Good clothes though. BB: No, I bet he wasn’t. Rob Corn by the way… SR: Bossy McBossy… BB: Bossy McBossy, our Executive Producer/Director, he directed this episode and he’s kinda rockin’… SR: He’s not kinda rockin’ - he’s really rockin! He’s a rockstar. BB: OK he’s very rockin’, but we like to downplay it… if you’re listening Rob you’re not that rockin’ and wait till you see the cost and budget on the next one. Also we had a guest editor on this one too, Matt Ramsey (?), who’s editor on Private Practice now, used to be an editor on Grey’s but came over to help us out because we had a little pinch in the schedule, but he did an awesome job too. SR: He edited episode 3:09 of Grey’s, the big Cristina… blood… Macbeth episode, where she tells on Burke. So he knows what he’s doing. BB: He absolutely does, he’s a veteran of the wars and it was fabulous to have him back briefly. SR: One of my favorite things about this episode, and I think I’ve probably said that twice already but this is also one of my favorite things about this episode, is Lexie stealing things. Lexie steals things all throughout the episode. And I think my favorite moment is when she steals the painting off the wall! BB: I like “Ooh, fruitbowl!” SR: Yeah, that’s good too. BB: I think it’s really sweet at the very end when she says to George in the crapartment, “I’ve never stolen a thing in my life, I’ve never even stolen like a lipstick…” I don’t know. She’s really friggin’ good at it, and I think maybe denial runs in the Grey family, that’s all I’m gonna say, because she stole like a pro in this one - she’s stealing flowers from right underneath the nose of the person who got the flowers, which I was kind of like “That’s some bold movement.” SR: But I love that she and George are living in this horrible, hideous crapartment (we started calling it the crapartment the moment we came up with it), and there’s roaches everywhere and TR could not have been funnier having to faux-crush roaches, it’s very stressful for him. We literally put live roaches in the scene with the poor man. BB: They were not tiny roaches. SR: No, they were BIG roaches. They were huge. BB: I was appalled at the size of the roaches. The roachiness of the roaches was gross. SR: It was horrible. But it was awesome, because they do live on an interns’ salary and while Meredith may live in her mother’s house and Cristina and Callie may both have money, if you’re not living in Meredith’s house you don’t really have any place good to live. So I thought it was great that he was living in this crappy, crappy apartment. The other thing that’s new about this episode, if you’ll notice, is that Meredith is in therapy with Dr Wyatt, which we thought was interesting simply because I’ve always been very against the idea of people being in therapy but I felt like where we’re heading with Meredith, she had finally reached a point where it was fully and completely necessary for her character to go there. But I love that she comes in saying I’m not planning on talking, I read a study that I just have to sit here and I will have the same effects as if I had actually talked. This is great. It’s true, it’s really a study. It was really interesting to us. And then at the end she realizes that she better start talking because she’s got some problems. She likes the Der, and he’s with Rose. BB: He’s with Rose. You know I think it’s still going to be a little tough for her to talk. SR: Oh yeah, the talking’s not going to be easy. BB: By the way, if you’re going to walk in a door and your therapist is Amy Madigan you’d better start talking. Cos she’s great and you want to take advantage of whatever the heck it is she’s got to say. I think it’s going to be interesting and we’re going to see more of Dr Wyatt. Now, next week we have something kind of exciting and cool, which is… SR: … the appearance of Addison Forbes Montgomery! BB: There you go! She’s back! For one episode… she’s visiting. SR: She’s visiting. She’s doing some stuff that only Addison Forbes Montgomery can do, both surgically and personally. BB: Which means she’s wearing some smokin’ clothing and has some beautiful shoes on probably, as well as... SR: Laboutins. BB: She gets some Laboutins? SR: I saw them, and other things. BB: Damn, I wish I was her size. I know, right? I think it will be a great episode to watch because I think she brings some perspective back to Seattle Grace. SR: Which we would tell you more about but we can’t, you need to watch it, and we’ll talk to you about it afterwards. Meet us back here, right here, in this spot…. BB: … on the sofa. So, we’re looking forward to talking to you again next week, about episode 4:13. SR: 4:13 is called Piece Of My Heart, which is very ‘a propos’ actually, as all our titles are. BB: Yeah, exactly. It’s always based on the song title. SR: It only gets better. I’m Shonda… BB: I’m Betsy… “Grey’s Anatomy.” ------------------------------- Season 4 .... Part 2 Grey's Anatomy official podcast, April 9th 2008. 'Where The Wild Things Are.' Welcome back to the official 'Grey's Anatomy' podcast, hosted by ABC . It's been a while but we are finally back on the air Thursday, April 24th at 9 pm with a brand new episode called 'Where The Wild Things Are.' To prepare you for the final five episodes of the season, executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers are here tease what they're calling season four, part two. Enjoy! Hi! Hi! I'm Shonda. I'm Betsy. This is 'Grey's Anatomy!' Don't we sound perky? We sure do. We've been gone a while. We've been gone a while which clearly means that apparently there was a tiny bit of rest in there some place...I think. I think we've all been lying on beaches doing nothing. I think...I think probably that's just the case. Just waiting to turn over with little egg timers. Egg timers...yes. Do you have any egg timers? Yeah. It's a tan. A tan. I don't really remember that because it's not something my people do. That's actually true. It's not as relevant for you. It's not as relevant. It's very relevant for me because I burn easily. I spent several months walking back and forth in front of the place where I work holding a sign which is awesome. And from all reports you did a very, very good job holding your sign. Strikes over! The strike is over. We are all back to work. I think that worked out incredibly well for everybody because we're all back to work and very excited to be back at work. Yeah, I think the thing that everybody came to the conclusion was that everybody missed working, and the show and everything about the show. And especially having all of us in the office running around like chickens with our heads cut off. It was fun. Also, you know, it was just the amazingness of getting to really appreciate the work that you get to do when everyone suddenly...you know, the people that you see every day, constantly all day, every day were suddenly in different places doing different things and it was really nice for everybody to come back together. The cast were really excited, and the writers were really excited, and the crew was excited so it was really all very good. It does make you appreciate, and also I think for you guys it was like - especially for you - a time to totally get your head sort of together and rest a little bit and think about what is going on with the show, and where the shows going and you got all frisky and excited about stuff! I did. You got beside yourself with jumpiness. I hope you people at home took the opportunity to watch all 71 episodes of 'Grey's Anatomy,' because I know we did. Yes. We did, actually, which was amazingly helpful and interesting in seeing where the characters were going. So I think one of the cool things too is that...I mean, it was unfortunate and frustrating to get to eleven episodes and stop, in some ways. But it is so great to be able to come back and finish the season. In a weird way it was a gift. I'm sort of calling this part of the season 'season four part two,' because I feel like it is a very separate season from 'season four part one.' Um..and, you know, we only have five episodes to tie all our stories in, but I think they are pretty powerful stories. The plan for season four had been very, very sort of...clear and intricate, and that got interrupted when we went down. So to come back was to come back with a fresh start, and to look at everything differently. And in a weird way we had to re-adjust things, because you can't tell the same stories in five episodes that you could in say, ten or twelve. But you also have an opportunity to start new, and do some stuff that we never thought could be done before. Exactly. And for me, part of the break was realizing that not only could we get Meredith and Derek together for good, but we could do it in a way that is going to be really, really interesting. Absolutely. You hate that idea? Actually, I love that idea. You hesitated. I did hesitate, you know. You know how I feel about Meredith and Derek. Whenever I say Meredith and Derek getting back together for good she vomits just a little bit. That's really strange and nobody really knows why. It's very very odd. No, it's not really true. We actually both love Mer and Der, and I think it was really weird and liberating to come back and say, 'You know what? They're going to be together.' Yeah. We all know they are going to be together. They're going to be together, but get...you're going to get to watch how they get together...which I think is going to be really, really interesting. And the fun part is to watch how this all happens. And one of the things which I think is cool that you guys I think were planning on doing before the show went down, but I think it has really worked to your advantage that there is a little bit of a time gap between the last episode and this coming episode, which means that things...time has passed a little. I think we are saying it is about 6 weeks, because I feel like for the audience, for you guys there has been a gap and to come back and pretend like there was no gap feels sort of disingenuous. So, for me, there was definitely a sense of needing to put a gap in there, so we said that sort of five or six weeks have passed. And in the first episode when you come back it's pretty cool - Meredith and Cristina and Alex and Izzie are engaged in a pretty high stakes surgical contest that you guys are going to want to see. Absolutely, and George has also been through a few changes as well. They've all been through a few changes. What's great is that it has actually allowed the characters to have some other things happen to them so they grow up without you a little. Yeah, they grew without you. Things happened while you weren't looking, which I think is kind of great because I feel like that feels honest. We left Bailey at a really, really, really kind of crucial crossroads. Absolutely. Those last moments of the last episode that aired...um...it's not looking so good with Tucker. They were really kind of at odds there. Times are a little bit hard there. One of the other things that at least I know I'm looking forward to is the return of Addison Forbes Montgomery. Formally Addison Forbes Montgomery Shepherd...yes, indeed...is going to be paying us a little bit of a visit. I think she's got some issues that, you know, she's going to be working out as well. So it's going to be really really fun to see her in that context and, I also just think that between Erica Hahn (who's also going to be, sort of hitting a couple of strange and special issues coming up.) Yeah, there's going to be some interesting stuff going on with Erica Hahn, there's going to be some really interesting stuff going on with Callie. I can't tell you what those things are...no we can't...but they are really interesting, and juicy. And juicy, but...juicy is a good word. Juicy is actually a really good word. I mean, it sometimes refers to jeans and sweats but primarily it just refers to something which is sort of nice and...in our world it doesn't refer to clothing. No. See, there you go. I immediately went to the fact that I probably need some new pants. Anybody would like to send anything free to Betsy. Yes, because clearly that was...thanks so much, Shonda. We do this every once and a while, it's really helpful. Also, um, we're going to see some really interesting stuff going on for Alex. I think he's going to be facing some very interesting...Elizabeth Reaser who plays Ava/Jane Doe/Rebecca is going to come back to visit us and he's going to be having some really interesting stuff going on...that relationship is really going to come to a head in a way that's, I think, fairly surprising for the audience. Absolutely. Absolutely. We're going to see him go through some stuff. Cristina Yang has some stuff going on. We're going to enjoy seeing her do some stuff we've never seen her do before. That sounds dirty, but it's not. That did actually sound...It sounds vaguely dirty but it's not. There's going to be a lot of interesting medical stuff which is coming up. There's some stuff. As well. And it's interesting and good and sort of surprising and very intense. The Chief has some stuff. The Chief also has some stuff. Izzie has some stuff. Izzie also has some stuff. The George and Chief may have a little stuff. Which is good. There's some good stuff. Lexie...you know what? We're just naming characters here. We are. They have some stuff which is really, really great. But the reality of it is...we should name some old characters too...there's some good stuff. Exactly. There's some really good stuff. There's Doc, he was an old character. Denny was a character at one point too. Finn was a character. We can just keep naming characters but...I mean, we're being a little bit oblique because the next podcast we're actually going to discuss the episode after you see it, and it will give you a little more of a context. I mean, what we are trying to do now, here is give you a taste, a teaser, a little appetiser. A little aperitif. Perhaps we should act out a moment from the show. And I feel so bad for our listening audience. We're not going to do that. We're not going to reenact our favorite moments. I don't think...but maybe we should, at some point. At one point we will reenact our favorite moments. Maybe after the season finale. We will, huh? My favorite moments almost always involve moments with almost no dialogue, so...like Izzie crying in the bed with Denny. That would be good. You know we could just play the song...there we go...in the background. And then you guys could guess what scene took place in that song, because we'd just be staring at each other trying desperately to interact. It could be like a game. Like that great moment...there's so many moments that are wordless. That's good. Exactly. Wow. You guys must have really missed us, huh? I know you are feeling so disappointed right now, I know you are thinking to yourselves, 'Why, why am I listening to this podcast?' But you are listening to this podcast because it's the precursor, the prologue. This is the bridge, this is the bridge...to some amazing podcasts coming up. And also some really, really good television, because we have seen a little bit of it, and we think that it's going to be great. We think that it's going to be great. You don't even have to listen to us if you don't want to, but watch the episode. You know, it doesn't hurt sometimes just...we have things to say about them that might be interesting. We actually do. We actually do, and sometimes if you're just feeling lonely you can turn on the podcast and always hear babbling, which is good. I don't think we're good for the lonely people. You don't think so? No. Maybe, I think we exacerbate the loneliness in a strange way. Exactly. Because we sound so pathetic. But maybe we make them they feel lucky. You know what, that's what it is. We make you feel lucky that you are not us, that you actually have real friends. And then what happens is you call all your friends after you have listened to this and say, 'You know you're my friend.' Oh my god, yeah. See, we bring people together. This is Shonda. This is Betsy. This is 'Grey's Anatomy.' This post has been edited by jenlou1986 on Apr 11 2008, 01:46 AM |

VOICE OVERS & QUOTES Meredith: [voice over] We like to think we are rational beings; humane, conscientious, civilized, thoughtful. But when things fall apart even just a little, it becomes clear --- we're no better than animals. We have opposable thumbs. We think, we walk erect, we speak, we dream. But deep down we're all still rooting around in the primordial ooze; biting, clawing, scratching out an existence in the cold dark world like the rest of the tree toads and sloths. Meredith: [voice over ] There's a little animal in all of us.....and maybe that's something to celebrate. Our animal instinct is what makes us seek comfort, a pac to run with. We may feel caged, we may feel trapped. But still as humans we can find ways to feel free. We are each other's keepers. We are the guardians of our own humanity. And even though there's a beast inside all of us....what sets us apart from the animals is that we can think.....feel.....dream and love. And AGAINST ALL ODDS AGAINST ALL INSTINCTS......we EVOLVE. |

RECAPS & REVIEWS & RATINGS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- RECAPS & REVIEWS & RATINGS BUDDYTV Grey's Anatomy: Episode 4.12, "Where The Wild Things Are" Recap - Thursday, April 24, 2008 Previously, on Grey’s Anatomy, George suggested that he and Lexie move in together. McSteamy made a play (unsuccessfully) for Hahn. Fed up with Meredith, Derek decided to give dating Rose a try. George and Izzie struggled to make their relationship work post-sneaking around. Meredith sits anxiously in a therapy session, refusing to open up about her issues. Uh, then what’s the point of going? Meredith says that she’s fine but she just hasn’t been sleeping. When she is paged, she bails out mid-session, without apologizing. Her therapist is played brilliantly by guest star, Amy Madigan, who you know from her work on Carnivale. Webber scolds Bailey, for keeping her residents at the hospital for nearly two weeks straight, competing in a surgical contest. Meredith, Cristina, and Izzie trash talk, and each confident that they’ll win the prize. George has no idea what they’re talking about (since he’s still an intern). Don’t worry, George. We have no idea either!...............cont'd http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anat...wher-18885.aspx ----------------------------------------------------------------------- EW.COM EW - TV Watch - Apr 25, 2008 'Grey's Anatomy': The Claws Come Out As the residents compete in a top-surgeon contest, Meredith discovers that a bear attack victim also has a brain tumor If I were in this episode, Meredith would be forced to narrate something about how I'm like, I don't know, some kind of woodland creature who has come out of hibernation only to find that the seed and berry crop is still kind of sparse but hopefully I can survive until next week. Which is to say: This heavy-handed episode full of animal metaphors and almost zero character development? As the comeback episode after our long, cold, strike-plagued winter? Not the least bit satisfying for me............cont’d http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20195378,00.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- FANGASM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LA TIMES 'Grey's Anatomy': 'House' hunting - Apr 25 2008 Well, now we know what the writers of "Grey's Anatomy" were doing during the strike, when they weren't walking the picket lines of course. They were watching "House." Last night marked the first new episode of "Grey's" in many, many months. Not content with beating its fellow medical drama out of the post-strike box by five days -- the first new "House" airs on Monday -- show runner Shonda Rhimes and her crack team of writers seem to be poking gentle fun, and paying some homage to, the strange powers of their rivals at Fox. First there was the resident's contest in which Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Cristina (Sandra Oh), Alex (Justin Chambers) and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) competed for points based on things like number of sutures stitched or surgeries scrubbed in on. It looked suspiciously like the competition Dr. House (Hugh Laurie) set up last season to choose a new diagnostics team, especially since "solving a medical mystery" was assigned the highest point value.......cont’d http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MSNBC Residents get into a lion fight on 'Grey's' - April. 24, 2008 A surgery competition pits the residents against each other for the best cases, leaving patients to feel the ill effects. She's a brainiac: Meredith was in her third therapy session after breaking up with McDreamy, but had yet to speak. Meredith treated a patient who was involved in a bear attack, and he introduced Mer to his new wife, who he said was his "rebound girl." A rebound girl? Like McDreamy's new gal, Rose? Meredith wondered if her patient's spontaneous marriage and odd decision to touch a bear cub -- which led to his brother getting attacked by the mother bear -- might have indicated a brain tumor. She was right, but it was too late to save her patient's life. Still, she won the surgery competition. More on that later............cont’d http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14484204/?pg=2...ysAnatomy_CHART Meredith and McDreamy: Enough already! - April. 23, 2008 It's too painful watching 'Grey's' characters repeat same mistakes The central relationship on "Grey's Anatomy" has always been rocky, even when it wasn't particularly interesting. Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd have spent three seasons putting each other through the wringer, and it's time for the carousel to stop. The self-described "dark and twisty" Meredith has always carried more than her share of burdens and neuroses, in the show's central attempt to accurately portray the struggles of modern adulthood. One thing that is often left out of the equation, however, is likeability. ........................cont’d http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24205482/ MSNBC - Grey’s Gossip, Weekly udate ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW YORK MAGAZINE Devouring Culture Vulture ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV GUIDE Ask Matt - Monday, April 28, 2008 Could Kate Walsh Leave Private Practice? Is CSI on Its Last Leg? Will Fox's New Sci-Fi Shows Deliver? And More! Question: Do you think there is any way Shonda Rhimes and the producers of Grey's Anatomy would consider making Addison a permanent fixture at Seattle Grace again? After all, Private Practice isn't called "Addison's Practice." The show could get on without her in my opinion, and I much prefer her on Grey's. How do you foresee Private Practice doing next year? Do you think the extended break will hurt its ratings? If so, Kate Walsh is guaranteed a spot back on Grey's, right? — Angela Matt Roush: If Private Practice were to go under, I can't imagine why they wouldn't want Addison (Kate Walsh) back on Grey's, but I doubt they'll have to cross that bridge anytime soon. I'm not much of a fan of Private Practice (too silly to the point of asinine), but it was doing well enough, and the Grey's pedigree will inspire ABC to be very patient. But I liked her better on Grey's as well, and I am excited to see her returning as a special guest for this Thursday's episode. It's like Addison's IQ dropped in half (in inverse proportion to her libido) the minute she signed on at the Wellness Center. Private Practice is so smarmy it reminds me of Boston Legal with doctors, which is maybe what ABC was looking for. Anyway, the biggest question here is about all of the fall shows that got cut short by the strike but which will be relaunched in the fall: Practice, Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, Chuck and Life. Will they be able to recover from the lost momentum of this punishingly long hiatus? In most cases (not so much this one), I hope so. http://www.tvguide.com/Ask-matt ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode Recap: Where the Wild Things Are - 04/24/08 Finally, a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy and it was well worth the wait! Even though it has been months since we last heard from the docs at Seattle Grace, in TV time it has only been six weeks since Meredith and Derek parted ways. The night began with Meredith in her third therapy session with Dr. Wyatt (Amy Madigan). So far, the two of them have failed to have a meaningful conversation and just as Meredith was about to open up, her pager went off and just like that, Meredith was on her feet and out the door (once again escaping intimacy)! Meanwhile, we find George and Lexie living in a rather beat up apartment, infested with cockroaches. Surprisingly, Lexie was unfazed by the creepy critters running rampant in their “new” place and she made a valiant effort to get George to see that with a little work, things could be better. Admittedly, I’m slightly concerned that she may become a serial kleptomaniac, but I was really impressed with the shabby chic makeover she busted out by the end of the show. Who would have thought underpads would make good placemats? And I bet Martha Stewart never thought to make a fruit bowl out of a bed pan! Nicely done, Lex. On a more serious note, Seattle Grace was also dealing with a tragic accident tonight. A woman, her husband and his brother barely made it to the hospital after a bear attack. Meredith took a special interest in the one brother because she thought his irrational and impulsive behavior might be indicative of a tumor. In the end, she was right and the discovery led his wife to wonder if their recent quickie marriage was nothing more than a result of that tumor. As the doctors raced to save lives, they were also racing to score points in a game judged by Bailey. Izzie ended up putting her patient, Otis (Cheech Marin), through numerous medical tests in the hopes that she might uncover a “medical mystery,” which was worth eighty points. Unfortunately for her, the only thing she uncovered was a possible case of the flu. Needless to say, Otis was not pleased that he had been treated like a test rat and he let her know it (and everyone else within shouting distance)! Over the course of the last few weeks it would also appear that Erica and Callie have become good friends, much to the jealous dismay of Cristina. Although, Erica did ask Cristina at one point tonight if she wanted to stay in the operating room with her and observe her in surgery. While the opportunity cost Cristina points in the surgical game (viewing surgeries is only worth three points), that sacrifice may have scored her some personal points with Erica. Only time will tell. In the relationship department, it looks like Rose and Derek are still seeing each other and Rose even blabbed to Lexie at one point that she thinks she’s in love. However, Mark made it clear to Derek that he doesn’t approve. In fact, Mark wins points with me for his innuendos and the elevator confessions he made to Derek tonight. Among those comments, Mark admitted that he was tired of waiting for Derek to cycle through his various love interests, even going so far as to say, “I thought it was going to be you and me…two guys on the prowl…” In the end, Grey won the surgical contest (a sparkly pager that gives her first rights to surgeries for the next three months), but perhaps more importantly for her, she ended up back at Dr. Wyatt’s office---and as the show closed, we heard her say, “Okay, I think I better start talking now…” Something tells me this could be the beginning of the new Mer/Der journey. There’s still so much more to say about tonight’s episode, but I really want to hear what all of you thought. Was it worth the wait in your eyes? Did anything surprise you tonight? Post your thoughts! And until next time, here are some of my favorite lines of the night: Lexie: “I’ve never even shoplifted a piece of gum before and now I’m a thief.” George: “I complain a lot, don’t I? I need to focus on what’s good instead.” George: “I wish you had stolen the TV’s.” Lexie: “I tried; they’re bolted to the walls.” Izzie: “You see swollen ankles. I see medical mystery.” The Chief: “You’re in a lion’s fight, Stevens. Just because you didn’t win, doesn’t mean you didn’t know how to roar.” Mark: “You’re pathetic and I’m a lesser man for knowing you.” http://community.tvguide.com/blog/TV-Show-...atomy/800056058 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV SQUAD Grey's Anatomy: Where The Wild Things Are - Apr 25th 2008 (S04E12) "C'mon, lady on the streets, tramp in the sheets. Am I right?" - Sloan Hey! Remember this show? Grey's Anatomy hasn't had a new episode since January 10th. So naturally, I was pumped for this one. In fairness, though, I've felt that way about anything new since the writer's strike. Bit of a mixed bag here. Part of me loved it because like I said, it was new. But at the same time, the episode was still laden with far too much of the excessive over-dramatic crap that's plagued most of this season. At the most basic level, this show works. But Shonda Rhimes and Co. love to push it and the problem is that they're not always headed in the right direction. It's been five (or was it six?) weeks since we last saw the doctors of Seattle Grace and a boatload of changes (most minor) have taken place. Let's break it down: * Derek and Rose: Derek and Rose are together still. But... no sex. She's waiting until they're serious. Sloan and Yang aren't fans of Roserek (Does that work? I couldn't come up with anything better.) and while it seems like they're happy, we all know it isn't going to last. Derek definitely seemed unsure when Sloan asked him if it was serious * Bailey: The divorce (or at least separation) from Tucker is permanent since she has her son with her at work. It seems like she just drops him off at hospital daycare every morning. I hope this gets explored though. There's no way this doesn't interfere with her work and I hope there are consequences. She did institute a surgical contest open to all first year residents though. I'll explain more later but the one question I had? Why did she do it? Despite the fact the Chief mentioned that it was something that happened every year, did Bailey start it up because of tradition or because she needed more help? * George and Lexie: They moved in together. I think there was a brief mention of it in the last episode. George needed to get away from Izzie and Lexie needed to get away from Thatcher. Small place. Dumpy. Not furnished very well. The real highlight was Lexie. It was comical really because her novelty (more like her purpose or place on the show) has completely dried up. She spent the entire episode stealing stuff from the hospital to help decorate the apartment. Bedpan for a fruit bowl. Excrement pads for place-mats. Classy. Seriously though - any scene with her in it was completely pointless. It's too bad because she started out as a good idea. But it seems like her character is slowly going the way of the other "new interns." Where'd they go anyway? * Meredith: She's quiet. Started going to see the hospital quack. But she doesn't talk. It's obvious that she's still hung up on Derek but she's thrown herself into the job to compensate for the loss. Her character actually made a lot development in this episode, but we'll get to that. * Izzie: She's bonkers. Still. * Callie and Hahn: They're BFF now. Clubbing. Dancing. Drinking. And snubbing Yang whenever they have a chance. Outside of the hospital anyway. * Cristina: Just as needy and driven as ever, she's still determined to learn everything she can from Hahn. * The Chief, Alex, and Sloan: Nothing new with these three, although I was hoping there would have been some update on how Webber is doing with Adele. Alright, with that out of the way, let's dive into the meat of the episode. Izzie first. I said she's bonkers because... well, she is. After the messes with Denny, George, and her attempt at cardio, she's lost faith in herself. (Sidebar: before I go on, I need to explain the contest. You get points for stuff. Winner gets a bejeweled pager that gives the owner first dibs on any surgery for the next three months. Point examples? 3 pts. for watching a new procedure; 3 pts. for each suture; 80 pts for solving a medical mystery. Only first year residents can play.) Izzie was obsessed with winning the contest. Cheech Marin guest starred as a guy with a broken ankle whom Izzie desperately wanted to be dying with some foreign disease she could diagnose. This is sort of what I was talking about earlier, with the over-dramatic stuff. All the I'm dying junk, and we have the best doctors, and you'll live longer, blah blah. Remember that scene? It was just too over the top. Izzie is frequently like that though. It's annoying. She just wanted to win the contest to redeem herself and subjected poor Cheech to $120,000 worth of unnecessary medical tests. Her judgment is non-existent. To be honest, I was surprised Webber didn't yell at her near the end of the episode. He should have. It's the show in general sometimes too. What's supposed to be spontaneous is forced. Take the beginning of the ep when Alex, Meredith, Bailey, and Yang were talking abut that next big trauma that's going to come in any second now. Then it did. That's not fun. It loses the punch when it's 100% predictable. Moving on to Meredith. She was interesting to watch for once instead of being an endless buzzkill. The case du jour in this episode was a guy who pet a bear cub while camping. Momma bear came out of nowhere and attacked the guy's brother, who eventually died. The guy survived with a few severe claw wounds and his wife had some of her scalp peeled off, but she lived too. After hearing the story of how the wife was a trashy waitress and the guy married her after only ten days, Meredith immediately thought "tumor!" He pets bears and marries women he barely knows; pretty spontaneous behavior. Makes sense I guess. The cryptic thing about it is that we never really knew what Meredith's endgame was. Did she just want to win the contest (she did as a result) or was she just bent on the idea that no one can have love if she can't? Either seemed plausible. By the end of the episode, it became clear that it was neither. She didn't care about the contest since she ignored the sparkly beeper when it went off and she isn't bitter about love because she went to Derek to ask for his help. She's just concerned with saving lives. It's going to be interesting to see how her clinical studies of people with brain tumors goes. Should create some tension since it wedges Mer right between Rose and Derek. More thoughts... * How funny is it that outside of work, Hahn and Callie are bitches to Cristina? They're the cool kids table and Yang isn't invited. I love it. * Is Sloan really having trouble getting laid? If so, that's a riot too. Especially if he truly need Derek as his wing man to score. Is he done pursuing Hahn? * What was with all the pep talks that The Chief gave to Alex and Izzie? I mentioned it already, but I wouldn't mind seeing him act less fatherly. * I really hope iGeorge is dead. There still seems to be a ton of tension between them. It's to be expected, but I just hope if doesn't lead to more awkwardness. That was some painful stuff to watch. * "Intestines in the hand" was not nearly as exciting as it should have been since I saw the promo with that line in it no less that 200 times over the last three weeks on ABC. * Since this show is all about cool nicknames, I'm going to start referring to Hahn as LITB, which I realize is not any shorter to type, but it is short for "lotion in the basket." Raise your hand if you get it. * Cheech Marin is a funny man. One down and four to go. Five if you're counting hours - the finale is a double. I'm on the fence about this one. As I said, the "new" factor is huge here. But as you can see, there was still plenty to gripe about. The show just isn't where it used to be... that may change next week though. Kate Walsh is back (Private Practice is on hiatus until next season) and hopefully that means we get a mini-renaissance from Grey's. I'd missed your particular brand of neurotic self-involvement, combined with some gross-out surgeries. I love the smell of surgical gloves in the evening. Many many points for spoilers ahead... I would like to offer up a solid huzzah! to Meredith for getting into much-needed therapy. If there's ever been anyone who needed it, it's her. Even if she does go and sit with her eyes filled with tears, not saying anything. Three cheers for making an effort to untangle the many many issues. Meredith's in the middle of not saying anything to her therapist (Amy Madigan), when her beeper goes of. "I've got to go," she says. "I'm in this contest." Where have I heard that before? Ah yes. Thankfully, this is an entirely different kind of contest. It's a surgical contest, which has had the residents living in the hospital for the past 14 days. There's a point system. And it's both ghoulish and awesome. "Grey's" (16 million viewers, 6.3 rating/15 share among adults 18-49) and its "Ugly Betty" lead-in (8.5 million, 2.5/8), both had their lowest first-run rating ever. "Grey's" nonetheless was the highest-rated scripted telecast since an episode of "House" aired in February. Moved to 10 p.m., "Lost" (12.4 million, 5.5/14) benefited from its best lead-in this season and remained on par with previous performances despite airing at a later hour. If ABC had some wince-inducing drops, the network had plenty of company. CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (16.7 million, 4.6/11) and NBC's "My Name Is Earl" (6.1 million, 2.3/7), "The Office" (7.6 million, 3.9/10) and "ER" (7.3 million, 2.9/8) all hit season -- if not series -- lows amid the increased competition. CBS came in second for the evening, with "Survivor" winning at 8 p.m. (13 million, 4.2/13). At 10 p.m., "Without a Trace" (13.5 million, 3.3/9) was below average. NBC was third, with "Scrubs" shifted to 8:30 p.m. (5.3 million, 2.4/7). Losing its "Office" lead-in, "Scrubs" dropped 27% from its 9:30 p.m. average. In the former "Scrubs" slot, "30 Rock" (5.5 million, 2.8/7) had the upside of a stronger lead-in but faced greater competition, resulting in an on-par draw with its previous average. In fourth, Fox had back-to-back episodes of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" (averaging 8.6 million, 2.3/6). The CW aired back-to-back episodes of "Smallville" (averaging 2.9 million, 1.2/3). CBS took the overall crown with a 9.2 rating/15 share, beating ABC, 8.1/13. FOX took third with a 5.3/8. NBC's 4.3/7 was good for fourth, and The CW trailed with a 1.8/3. Across the board, though, those numbers are down from their pre-strike levels for original episodes. In the adults 18-49 demographic, ABC led the way with a 4.8 rating. CBS finished second at 4.0. NBC came in third with a 2.9, topping FOX's 2.3. The CW drew a 1.2. "Survivor: Micronesia - Fans vs. Favorites" (7.9/13) gave CBS the lead at 8 p.m. ABC's "Ugly Betty" returned with a 6.0/10, beating FOX's "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" for second. "My Name Is Earl," 4.0/7, and "Scrubs," 3.5/6, were fourth for NBC. "Smallville" scored a 2.1/4 for The CW. At 9 p.m., "Grey's Anatomy" led in households for ABC with a 10.7/16, but "CSI," 10.5/16, brought more total viewers to CBS (16.74 million to 16.02 million for ABC). "Don't Forget the Lyrics," 5.4/8, kept FOX in third. NBC improved a little with "The Office," 4.6/7, and "30 Rock," 3.5/5. "Supernatural" closed the evening for The CW. CBS' "Without a Trace," 9.2/15, drew the biggest overall audience at 10 p.m. ABC, however, had a sizable adults 18-49 lead with "Lost," 7.6/13. "ER" delivered a 5.1/8 for NBC. The 9 p.m. hour featured the return of the battle of CBS’ CSI versus Grey’s Anatomy on ABC in originals. CSI was first in the overnights (11.4/15), 11 percent above Grey’s Anatomy (10.3/16). But Grey’s Anatomy will, of course, dominate among adults 18-49. Year-to-year, both dramas remain on the downside: CSI by 12 percent in the overnights last night (11.4/15 vs. 13.0/20 on April 26, 2007) and Grey’s Anatomy by 23 percent (10.3/16 vs. 13.3/20). Also, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) watched a faith healer save her child, while George (T.R. Knight) declared that he was determined to rediscover ''the man that Bailey named her baby after.'' UP NEXT: George will move toward ''becoming that guy,'' reveals Grey's exec producer Shonda Rhimes, which is a huge relief to T.R. Knight: ''He's been such a mess for so long, making weird choices, it'll be nice to see him grow up a little quicker.'' Helping him get there? The Chief (James Pickens Jr.), who will take George under his wing. Christina (Sandra Oh), meanwhile, will have her own professional crisis over being Hahn's resident, and Ava/Rebecca (Elizabeth Reaser) will be back for three episodes. Also making a brief return: Addison (Kate Walsh). ''There are a couple of surgeries only she can perform,'' says Rhimes, ''and there are a lot of relationships only she has. It's going to be a very significant visit for a lot of the characters — particularly Addison.'' And we've saved the best for last: While Rose is returning for all five episodes, Meredith and McDreamy will be getting together ''for good,'' says Rhimes. Before Grey’s went on an unplanned three-month break due to the Writers Guild strike, Rhimes and her staff were gradually bringing Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) back together, despite interference from nurse Rose (Lauren Stamile). Now, with production finally ramping up for the season’s five remaining episodes, Rhimes says she’s more determined than ever to reunite the hit show’s core couple by the end of the season. “My goal is to get Meredith and Derek together for good and let them try to figure out what it is to be in a relationship in the future,” she says. “Before, it was, Can we do this and make it work? And now it’s Not only can we do it and make it work, but watch what happens: It’s going to be incredibly interesting.” And a little scary, too. Grey’s star T.R. Knight, who plays surgical intern George O’Malley, is a bit nervous about going back to the set. “Normally after a hiatus, the first week I don’t know how to act, or I know how to act even less than I normally know how to act,” he says. “You’re very much getting your sea legs. You’re going, What language is this?” Don’t worry, T.R., they’ll have you speaking McEnglish again in no time. - Ari Karpel EW - TV Watch http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20184006,00.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV GUIDE TV GUIDE Grey's Anatomy: Where Were We? (Part 1) - Apr 16, 2008 9:47 This is the first in a series of six Grey's refreshers to get you back up to speed before the show's April 24 return. Each recap will focus on one of the many couples at Seattle Grace. So why not kick it off with the most on-again/off-again couple on television, Meredith and Derek? The Couple: Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) Where They Were: Meredith informed McDreamy that the duo was indeed broken up following her little speech at Burke and Yang's almost wedding, but she did allow a breakup kiss. And then some breakup sex. And then lots and lots of breakup sex. Derek realizes his desire for commitment makes Meredith want to run, but he tells her he'll wait for her to be ready. But what if someone else comes along? Meredith finally decides to tell Derek she doesn't want him to see other people, but chickens out when she has the chance. Rose, the scrub nurse who's been making eyes at Derek, saves the day by repairing a computer during one of his surgeries. When they exchange compliments, Derek kisses Rose, but he doesn't tell Meredith about the kiss because she finally commits to him by asking him not to date. When Derek shows Meredith house plans, her lack of enthusiasm proves she's not as committed as she said, but he tells Rose he must see the relationship through regardless. But when George spills the beans about Derek and Rose's kiss, the couple breaks up (again), and Derek asks Rose to dinner. Where They're Headed: Despite their roller-coaster love affair, creator Shonda Rhimes has told us that she sees Mer and Der together for good by the end of the season. Whether or not we can expect a ring or even a wedding is still up in the air, and there is still plenty of doubt among viewers. Luckily, if things work out, Derek still has those house plans! Possible Roadblocks: Though she'll probably be wilted by Derek's back-and-forth attitude, Rose could still definitely be a thorn in Meredith's side. Plus, let's not forget that, at least to this point, the Grey's writers have found it impossible for any couple in the confines of Seattle Grace to be happy together for any consistent period of time. Could a bit of sunshine actually pierce through those rainy Seattle clouds? We'll find out soon enough! — Adam Bryant Have more catching up to do? The Couple: George (T.R. Knight) and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) Where They Were: From the beginning of the show, George and Izzie have always been there for each other, especially when an STD (the syph) or LVAD wire-cutting was involved. The real test in their friendship came after George's dad died. George was so messed up that he flew to Vegas to marry Callie, again proving he isn't the sharpest scalpel in the OR. Despite the damage the marriage did to his friendship with Izzie, it only took one night of poor decisions to send George and Izzie spiraling toward a bad, bad (naughty bad) place. After some hot, drunken sex, Izzie and George realized that maybe what they've been looking for was right in front of them all along. The pair confessed their feelings for one another, and George ended his marriage with Callie. But there's just one problem: The couple's had some serious trouble recreating the hot sex they had that first time around. Whether they are both too tired or they're fumbling around in the bathtub (which they will "never speak of again"), George and Izzie have proven that they're both still interns when it comes to bedside manner. Where They're Headed: Izzie and George agreed that their timing was off and that they don't have the right chemistry as a "couple." It's going to be interesting to see if they can maintain the same level of intimacy in a friendship. Maybe they'll be best together as f--k buddies — after work they can hit Joe's and then stumble home together for more steamy romps, and then act like everything is normal the next day! Possible Roadblocks: Callie could pop up pregnant (pure speculation) or at the very least make George and Izzie's time on duty a living hell. And it wouldn't be Grey's if new love interests from the mind of Shonda didn't pop up to throw a possible glitch into future "Gizzie" hookups. Also, do we think Alex and Izzie are over for good? No way. Should Ava dump Alex for good, he'd be back on the Izzie train in a flash — but this time, for the right reasons. — Erin Fox Have more catching up to do? But in another interview online, when asked about the couple uniting, she said, "Meredith and Derek should either be over by the end of the season, or she should make it on her own." Are the uneven messages by Rhimes intentional, or do you feel she really has a stable relationship in the works for our favorite TV couple? The mixed answers to the same question make it seem like she's just trying to create buzz and ratings at the fans' expense. How do you feel about Rhimes' early spoilers, given that she almost never gives them out? Is this too good to be true? — Amy J. Matt Roush: She could be toying with us, I suppose, but the quote she gave TV Guide (which appears in our current Returning Favorites double issue, on stands now; don't miss it or the awesome gatefold cover) seems to represent where the show is heading once it returns for its remaining five hours in late April. Sounds to me like she's listening to fan unrest again, and while Meredith and Derek undoubtedly have major emotional issues still to sort out, the appetite is huge for the writers not to throw contrived curveballs in their way (like, say, Rose). As always, I prefer not to judge a show on its hype, but on what's actually on screen, so let's just wait and see. But some of the other information in the Grey's article in our issue made me hopeful and eager for what's to come. http://www.tvguide.com/ask-matt/grey-anatomy/080331-04 TV Guide Scans - 26-Mar-2008 http://bp0.blogger.com/_RrObyQ3XzcY/R-pDN_...27s+anatomy.jpg Found at Twop/credit to DenyingS3 From the TV Guide printed edition dated March 31st-April 13th (not many new details) Where we left off: Dreamy doctor decided to build his dream house, but Meredith faltered in sharing in with him, especially after George inadvertently revealed that Derek made out with nurse Rose. Izzie and George were in romantic limbo after their affair broke up his marriage. Mer's half sister Lexie, was hooking up on and off with Alex who'd also been hooking up with his former patient Ava. After a nearly tragic accident involving her son and a bookcase, Bailey blamed her husband, who is now moving out. What's next: "When we come back, we'll have leapt ahead five or six weeks in time," creator Shonda Rimes says. "It's our way of acknowledging the bump [caused by strike]. But it'll be very clear from the first moment what has transpired. You'll see where things stand with Derek, Meredith, and Rose. You'll see where George is living, and in the first episode all of the residents will be involved in a high-stakes surgical contest---definitely not something the chief would condone" Hookup central: "old relationships will become new again, some people you thought would never get together will, and there are going to be some interesting outside influences," Rhimes promises. George and Izzie have "put it to bed for the night. They've left it at the idea that it's not necessarily about the bad sex as [it is] the bad timing. What will be interesting to see is that the intimate explosion of events, [whether] they can be just friends." Pretty boy plastic surgeon Mark "McSteamy" Sloan will continue his pursuit of the hard-to-impress Dr. Hahn. "The way that is going to play out will be surprising to everyone, "Rhimes says. "Mark Sloan is not used to not getting what he wants." The Mer-Der chronicles: "I am pretty dedicated to the idea that they are going to be together for good this season," Rhimes says. "What's going to be interesting is how she gets her act together, and how they decide that this is it." Are those wedding bells we hear?!"I did not say there is going to be a wedding." Rhimes says. "Or a ring. Although I did not say there wasn't going to be a ring." Flamethrower: Addison will pop up at Seattle Grace to perform surgeries that only she can do and "discover whether you can ever really go home," Rhimes says. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION Okay, first of all – can someone please tell me when this Nurse Rose chick showed up??!! I take a well-deserved, itty, bitty vacation and the next thing I know – McDreamy seems to have forgotten all about little Miss Grey and has turned his attention to some outsider named Nurse Rose. The nerve! You’d think I would’ve gotten a phone call. A text? An email!? For cryin’ out loud, you’d think someone would’ve told everybody’s favorite bartender about the mysterious little lady stealing McDreamy’s heart, but noooooooo. I had to hear about it from Mark Sloan, of all people. Now, of course, nobody ever believes what Mark Sloan says. But, when my boy Alex confirmed the presence of this… nurse… I took it for fact. Apparently, Nurse Rose and Derek have been seeing (and kissing) each other for over a month! The funny thing is, as Mark so eloquently pointed out, they’re not sleeping together. Ah, so they haven’t sealed the deal? Yet. Well, I, for one, think that’s just splendid. Everybody knows that I’m the biggest Mer-Der fan around. So, as long as Derek just sticks to working up patients – and not scrub nurses – then Meredith isn’t completely out of the picture. Right? Right. Here’s hoping that both Derek and Meredith figure things out, get their acts together and fall back in love… with each other. Not that I think they ever fell out of love. No, they just need to work through their own personal issues (by themselves) and then get back together. And, until that happens, I better not find Nurse Rose walking alone in any back alleys. Okay. Now that that’s outta the way… Hello again, world wide web! Oh my, I’ve certainly missed you. Between having twins, running the bar, visiting Walter’s family and going on a mini-vacation to Arizona, I’ve somehow lost touch with you all. What can I say – things got a little crazy. But, I want you to know that I’m back, and I’m going to be updating this here blog a lot more frequently now. I’ll be discussing all things Seattle Grace… Everything from Derek and his scrub nurse to this newfound friendship between Callie and Erica that I’ve been hearing a lot about (from Cristina, mainly). Oh, man, Cristina is pissed! She was just in here ranting and raving... Callie and Erica this. Callie and Erica that. According to Cristina, Callie and Erica are bff’s and didn’t even bother to tell her. Yeah, Cristina allows Callie to move in with her and the next thing she knows – it’s all “my-buddy-and-me” between Callie and Erica. As far as Cristina is concerned, Hahn is supposed to be her “mentor.” She’s not supposed to be Callie’s best friend. You know, it sounds like somebody’s just a wee bit jealous. I’m sure Cristina wishes that she was the one staying out all night and partying with Hahn. Maybe then Hahn would go a little easier on her. I mean, it’s obvious that Cristina’s been trying to impress Hahn, but, so far, she hasn’t had any luck. Of course, Cristina has never been the type of girl who shies away from challenges. The thing is, however, Hahn may be too much of a challenge for even Cristina to handle. Only time will tell, I guess… Cristina took off once Alex started teasing her about losing some sort of contest. Evidently, the two of them were involved in some sort of surgical contest that took place over the last 14 DAYS at the hospital. Izzie and Meredith participated, too. Yeah – the four of them were living in the hospital for a full two weeks. They ate hospital food morning, noon and night. They slept wherever (and whenever) they could. They rarely showered. They DIDN’T LEAVE SEATTLE GRACE. So they’re either really committed or really, really stupid (and smelly). Meredith ended up winning the contest. She supposedly won a highly-coveted, shiny, sparkle pager. What’s so great about a sparkle pager, you ask? Well, not only does it – I don’t know – SPARKLE, but, for the next three months, whenever somebody gets a surgery, that person has to first page the sparkle pager. And, if Mer wants that surgery, then it’s hers! Well, like I said, Alex was ribbing Cristina about being a loser and losing out on the power of the sparkle… And, that’s when Cristina just got up and left, yelling “SPARKLE THIS” on her way out… She was in a bad, bad mood tonight. But, that’s Cristina, what can I say? So, Izzie was depressed about running some patient through a slew of unnecessary tests and George and Lexie had to deal with their crapartment, but, where was Meredith tonight? I’m surprised she never came to the bar. Didn’t she want to celebrate her win? Didn’t she want to show off her sparkle pager live and in person? I guess not. That’s when Alex told me that Mer lost a patient today. He passed her on his way out – Apparently, Meredith was working late. It looked like she was focused on a bunch of research. Good for her! Maybe it’ll help her do that whole “growing up” thing. Besides, Mer could probably stand to avoid the bar for a little while anyway… By the way, I heard that Meredith recently started seeing a therapist. What, was I not doing a good enough job? I listen to people’s problems. I give advice. I offer support. Best of all, I’m free (although tips are always welcome). Well, I guess I can’t be mad at her. I just hope this “therapist” of Mer’s isn’t some quack and will actually help her with all of her issues. Yeah… It’s gonna take some time… Alright, folks, that about does it for me. I’ve gotta get back to work. Speaking of which, I could use a hand or two over here. It’d allow me more time to blog, that’s for sure. So, anybody looking for a job? I should just hire Alex, as much as I see his ugly mug around these parts. Well, anyway, I hope this blog finds you in good health and in good spirits! Until next time… - Joe the Bartender April 24, 2008 THE NURSES STATION Hi all!!!! It’s good to be back amongst the living. Joe and I have been on a hunger strike for several weeks so I haven’t had the strength to blog (is it still a hunger strike if you eat those mini powdered doughnuts? I mean they ARE tiny). Anyhoo, let’s talk about what’s been going on in the halls of Seattle Grace!! Okay what is UP with Meredith and Derek???? He has a girlfriend people, and her name ain’t Meredith. Okay, I thought the downfall of Meredith and Derek would coincide with the end of the world, or a housing bust, or I don’t know, something drastic like… Oh no. Like me going on a hunger strike. That basically is the end of the world. Holy crap! I brought on the demise of Mer/Der myself! I have to go call Joe and discuss. But, my point is that I never ever thought I’d live to see the day when Meredith and Derek weren’t together. But, when Derek got off of the elevator this morning, the woman he was with wasn’t Meredith. The woman he kissed in front of EVERYONE wasn’t Meredith. I was at the nurses’ station standing near Meredith and she tried to look away when that kiss happened. Well, she didn’t look away quickly enough. She saw the kiss and everyone saw the pain on her face before she looked away. The thing is, it’s so obvious that Meredith and Derek still have feelings for each other. The way he looks at her… yeah, they’re still in love. At least, in MY opinion they are. But truly, how long do you expect a man like Derek Shepherd to hang around? I heard that he bought a piece of land to build a house on. He wanted to build a house for Meredith, himself and their future children. Okay, a man doesn’t do that if he’s not ready to settle down. He’s ready. He wants to be married. He wants children. He wants to be with his true love for the rest of this life. And well, maybe there’s another “love” out there for him that wants the same things. Obviously, Meredith Grey doesn’t. Meredith and Derek spent most of the day yesterday not talking. Derek was all business with her and would hardly look her in the eye but here’s why I know that they have feelings for each other: The next morning, after Derek and Rose shared a kiss, Meredith proposed the idea of a clinical trial and Derek just looked at her in that way only reserved for Meredith. The question of the day was (I emphasize “WAS”) “are Rose and Derek doing it?” After Nurse Tyler overheard the conversation between Derek and Dr. Sloan in which Dr. Sloan was teasing Derek for NOT sealing the deal yet, I’d have to say “no” they’re not doing the deed yet. WHY NOT? WHAT IS WRONG WITH ROSE???? If I was in Rose’s position?? Let’s just say that Mr. Shepherd would be fighting me off every minute of the day. Listen, we girls usually “save it” for that special guy. For the guy we think is THE guy. Let me tell you, you can’t get any better than Derek Shepherd. He invented perfection. Yeah, yeah, I know he’s flawed and all that but LADIES, he is the entire package. I mean it. Well, maybe Rose wants to take her time. She IS the rebound girl afterall. And Meredith Grey? Well, she and Derek, they were THE couple. And everyone, including Rose, knows this. Meredith and Derek were like Sonny and Cher, Brad and Jen, Brad and Angelina, Ashford and Simpson… you get the point. Let’s go back to the clinical trial. One would think that Meredith’s proposal is a way to spend some quality time with Derek. What do you think? I honestly think that saving lives IS important to her but I also think deep down, way down, she does want to have some time with her ex beau. I hear she’s seeing a therapist. Okay, you guys may be thinking, “Nurse Debbie, you’re going too far” because therapy is a very intimate, a very personal thing. I know. But seriously people, if you don’t want me in your business, then don’t see a therapist in your place of work is all I’m saying. Besides, we pass in the hall. My weekly appointment is immediately after hers. So Meredith Grey is in therapy. She’s gone through a lot with her Mom’s death, her fake mom’s death, her near drowning… and kudos to her for working it all out. But, I bet Derek is the real reason she’s in therapy. Why isn’t she with him? THEY LOVE EACH OTHER. HE WANTS TO BE WITH HER. SHE LOVES HIM. Okay, so WHY aren’t they together? I’m sure it’s a question she asked herself and I’m sure, since he’s with someone else now, the question is on her mind all day, every day. I overheard her mumbling to herself in the locker room “stupid therapy, stupid problems, stupid have to work all of this stuff out so that I can be a normal human being…” Yeah, she’s got some things to work out. Once she works this stuff out, will it be too late? Will it be too late to get Derek back if that’s what she wants? I don’t know. He and Rose looked mighty cozy. We’ll have to see. Let’s not hold our breaths though, because this saga of Meredith and Derek has been going on for a while now and there’s no telling how it will all end. Well people, now that the hunger strike’s over, all my extracurricular activities involve eating. Time for some bacon and hash browns. Yes, it’s after midnight but Joe serves breakfast all day. Breakfast and beer. My kinda night! April 24, 2008 Grey's Anatomy Preview: Breakups and Hookups! - Apr 16, 2008 Getting her own time in the spotlight at the Writers Guild Foundation's "Anatomy of a Script" series was guest speaker Shonda Rhimes, creator of ABC's Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice. Prior to taking the stage Tuesday at the Writers Guild of America in Los Angeles, Rhimes gave TV Guide a peek at what's coming up in the final six episodes of this season's Grey's. According to Rhimes, between split-ups and hookups, the Seattle Grace staff will be riding an emotional roller-coaster. "George and Izzy broke up, and I think they're struggling with what that's going to mean for them in terms of their friendship and where they stand now," says Rhimes. There's drama in store as well for George's jilted ex. "What's going to happen for Callie is really good, really interesting, fairly juicy and I can't tell you a bit of it," teases Rhimes. One thing fans won't be seeing is Callie linking romantically with the Chief, who still holds a candle for his wife. "People always seem to move on and then they come back," says Rhimes. "We're going to be seeing more of Loretta Devine, definitely." Cristina will continue to feel the impact of her breakup with Burke. "The last six episodes are going to be her dealing with that loss and what it means for her career," says Rhimes. As for Cristina finding love down the road, Rhimes hints, "I think she's pretty lovable, so in the future, yes." Also shaking things up will be Addison's return visit to Seattle Grace. "She's going to come in in our [May 1] episode and do some stuff that only Addison can do," says Rhimes. In doing so, Addison's angst is triggered when she learns you can never go home again. "I think we watch her struggle with the difference between who she is in L.A. and who she was in Seattle." Will that struggle land her in the janitor's closet locking lips with McSteamy? Rhimes' allusion to Mark's storyline may be telling: "McSteamy is going to be dealing with that aspect of, 'Is all I am this guy who sleeps around?'" As for the dynamic duo of Meredith and Derek, Rhimes has already announced that the couple will reunite. That said, don't expect smooth sailing for the relationship. "I think they're going to be happy, but I don't think there's any 'happily ever after,'" says Rhimes. "If Meredith and Derek walked off into the sunset, then that would be it. The show would be over." http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...ssDate=12345678 My Love Affair .... - Monday, April 14, 2008 http://authorsstudio.blogspot.com/2008/04/...ove-affair.html TV Guide Guest Column/Shonda Rhimes “What’s Next for Grey’s” - 14-Apr-2008 http://bp2.blogger.com/_RrObyQ3XzcY/SAPRw3...27s+Anatomy.jpg |

SYNOPSIS Shonda & Co. Recap....... Meredith is going to the hospital's counselor, but so far has refused to say anything. She admits she hasn't slept since her breakup with Derek but says that's not the reason. George and Lexie have gotten an apartment together, but it's overrun by cockroaches. All the residents are engaged in a surgical contest that is so intense, none of them have left the hospital in the last two weeks. Derek admits to Mark that he hasn't yet slept with Rose. He insists that he's waiting until they're more serious. Mark, who has struck out lately on his own, wants to see Derek single again and suggests that they start their own contest, with women as the scoring system. Derek refuses. Cristina, who's still trying to get on Hahn's good side, is astonished to find out that Callie is now one of her best friends and is even on a first name basis with her. Izzie is 26 points behind the other residents as she's mostly been watching, and not participating in, surgeries. So when a man with a sprained ankle comes in, Izzie decides it's a "medical mystery" worth 80 points. She snatches up the patient, leaving Cristina, Alex and Meredith with nothing -- that is, until a car drives up. The driver, who drove straight here, says they were out camping and he tried to pet a bear cub, which led to his brother being mauled by the ma.ma bear. Cristina is helping the injured brother out of the car when his intestines spill into her hands. The driver is not hurt, other than a severely bitten hand. High on pain meds, he tells Meredith that his new wife was his "rebound girl." The wife tells Meredith she never expected anyone as wonderful as him to marry her. She herself has a torn scalp, which proves to be easily stitched up. During the surgery on the bear-attack victim, Alex and Cristina fight over who gets to stitch him up, since it's a point a suture, so Miranda says they can both do it. Izzie quizzes the man with the sprained ankle about his symptoms and is sure she's hit the contest jackpot when he reveals other mild health complaints. She orders a battery of tests while George, who's bitter about not being able to take part in the contest, tells her it's probably just a sprained ankle. She diagnoses a swollen knee as well, so Callie advises a spinal tap. The man is now sure he's dying but Izzie assures him that he's in good hands. Meredith hands George the points-rich scalp suture because she wants to work on the man with the hand injury. She suspects that his sudden marriage and his irrational impulse to touch a bear cub might mean he has a brain tumor. George feels she's also blowing a minor case out of proportion like Izzie -- or using it as a reason to see Derek. Lexie starts assessing everything in the hospital as something she can take home to the apartment. She's eyeing a vase of flowers when she overhears flirty banter between Rose and Derek. After Derek leaves, Rose confesses that she's totally smitten but trying to play it cool. "I love him," she announces out of the blue, just in time for Meredith to hear. Meredith insists she's fine, but tells Lexie to stop stealing things. Miranda calls Izzie on running unnecessary tests to win the contest, but Izzie convinces her that there may be something major here to diagnose. Meanwhile, Meredith examines her patient and when she determines that he's lost most of his peripheral vision, she triumphantly shouts "Tumor!" The man thinks she's trying to make him feel better about doing something as stupid as touching a bear cub and she explains that his other symptoms -- including making sudden, rash judgments -- are indicative of a tumor. His new bride takes offense, realizing she's one of those rash judgments and insists they do an MRI to prove Meredith wrong. A visibly impatient Cristina has been rushing from her suturing to update Erica on the surgery. Erica asks if winning the contest is more important than watching an important cardiac procedure and Cristina decides to stay. Izzie is distraught that she can't figure out the "mystery" of her case and tells George that great doctors have an instinct about these things. She's sure about her medical instincts because lately her personal ones have been awful, she says bitterly, including sleeping with George. Meredith shows George the brain scan that proves she was right about the tumor, partly to gloat but mostly to ask him to take the scan to Derek for her. The bear-attack victim crashes and they can't save him. Richard informs the brother, who is devastated to have caused the whole situation. When Meredith tells him he has an inoperable tumor, he responds, "Good. I killed my brother." The wife asks Meredith if she's just a symptom too, like the bear cub. Meredith says she's the only one who can know that for sure. Izzie's patient is outraged when he learns that his battery of tests have showed nothing more major than the flu. All Izzie can do is prescribe rest and run away before he throttles her. Because she's solved a major medical mystery, Meredith wins the contest. Her prize is a sparkly pager, which gives her the right to take any surgery she wants from anyone else. Down on herself for losing, Izzie welcomes Richard's criticism for wasting thousands on unnecessary tests. Instead, he tells her to be proud of her efforts and that he lost his own resident contest by two points. Cristina finds Callie and Erica bonding over wine at her apartment and realizes she's not welcome to join in. Lexie reveals her revamp of the apartment and says she's done it all for George, because she needs him to be her friend and this to be her home. Meredith researches the kind of tumor her patient has and wants to do a clinical trial -- but she needs a neurosurgeon to oversee it, so she asks Derek. She tells him this is about saving lives and not about the two of them. And she finally starts talking to her therapist. |
