MEDICAL STORIES SIDES SUMMARIES Episode 4.09 - Crash Into Me - Plot and Character Details - Thursday, 4 October 2007 Thanks to Cathalina for the summary. The Young Family - Jacob, the father has just had heart surgery and was released yesterday from the hospital. From the car crash, he now has a piece of metal embedded in his leg. Dr. Smith informs him that not only will he need surgery for that, but he will also need surgery for a post-operation infection that has hit the bone of the sternum and the tissue surrounding it. The family, most notably the youngest child Lucy, is truly upset (there are six children in the family, and there are sides for a few of them but not all. There also isn't a set of sides for his wife, Danielle). Lucy pulls on Dr. Smith's coat and she bends down to comfort the little girl. She her that the surgery will make her dad better, and then the little girl asks if she's coming back. Dr. Smith smiles at the little girl and tells her yes, that she isn't going anywhere. Dr. Smith also comforts Jacob when they are alone, as he is upset that his family, especially his children, have to go through the ordeal again of him being operated on. Dr. Smith assures him that all his children want is for him to get better, and he visibly relaxes. Mary - She took a seizure while driving and seems to be the cause of the accident. It is implied from the sides that she is involved in the medical profession somehow, since she tells one of the doctors that its strange to be on the other side of this. She asks for her friend Shane while Dr. Jones attends to her broken arm, and she tells Mary that he is being seen by another doctor. The neurologist comes in and orders a CT scan. When he comes back with the results, he tells Mary that she has a tumor that they can remove easily, but where it is located is the problem. It seems that removing the tumor could cause her to lose her balance, and therefore impair her ability to do her job. While Mary is digesting this piece of information, she seizes again and the neurologist orders her head braced and for some other medical things (I'm not kidding, the sides say get "Medical!" and "Medical!" now) to be done STAT! Nick - He has a huge neck tumor and is being seen by Dr. Moore. He is openly hitting on her, and tells her that he is definitely available since the girl he was seeing dumped him because of the tumor. He confides that he thought she was a nice girl disguised as a "vapid narcissist" but it turns out she was simply a vapid narcissist. Dr. Moore tells him that she can't date him - she's a doctor and he's a patient (and that stopped people in this hospital when?) He tells her that he won't be a patient too much longer, so she then tells him that she's kind of seeing someone who is a nice guy disguised as a jerk. Later on Dr. Moore returns, and she is visibly angry. She tells Nick that the guy she was kind of seeing was not a nice guy disguised as a jerk, he truly is a jerk! Nick then repeats his offer and Dr. Moore seriously considers it until he passes out and the alarms start going off. Shane - From these sides we learn that some of the doctors have gone to the actual crash site since some of the victims need to be cut out of the car. Shane tells the doctors what happened at the site. He also complains of lower abdominal pain, but he refuses to let any of the female doctors examine him. Even though they are all hands on deck, and they warn him something could be seriously wrong, he refuses the help of a lady doctor. Stan - He and his friend Rick (no sides for Rick) are trapped in the car and the medical personnel is losing a battle against time to get them. They are trying to talk the two through, but both men say that they aren't going to make it. They do manage to get them an IV line to administer fluids and pain medication, but it does not look too good for the two men. Source: Cathalina@SpoilerTV http://spoilertv-greysanatomy.blogspot.com...e-plot-and.html Andrew (17) Jacob’s son: Asks if his dad is alright. Todd (11) Jacob’s son – Asks a doctor what is happening with his dad’s injury. Sandra (15) Jacob’s daughter: Calls for her dad. Lucy (7) Jacob’s daughter: Asks if her dad is going to need another operation. Danielle is Jacob’s wife but there are no sides for her, so guest star? (40’s) Also, no sides for two other sons, Garrett (13) and Josh (9). |

SPOILERS Ask Ausiello Question: Is Seth Green's Grey's Anatomy gig still happening, or has it been scrapped due to the strike? — Geoffrey Ausiello: His two-episode stint has already been shot and will air. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Joshua Jackson's arc, which has been delayed indefinitely. Bummer, too, since I just found out which Seattle Grace doc he was going to be paired with, and it's pretty much the last person I would've suspected. And trust me, that's a good thing. I probably shouldn't tell you who it is since the script isn't even written yet and, therefore is subject to change…. Oh, what the hell (Major spoiler alert): It's Cristina! That's right, Yang was/is supposed to rebound with Pacey! VOICE OVERS & QUOTES 4.09 Crash Into Me - Part 1 Meredith: [voice over] We go into medicine because we want to save lives. We go into medicine because we want to do good. We go into medicine for the rush... for the high... for the ride. But, what we remember at the end of most days are the losses. What we lay awake at night replaying is the pain we caused or failed to cure. The lives we ruined or failed to save. So the experience of practicing medicine rarely resembles the goal. The experience too often is ass backwards and upside down. Meredith: [voice over] |

RECAPS & REVIEWS & RATINGS BUDDYTV Grey's Anatomy: Episode 4.9 "Crash Into Me Part 1" Recap - Thursday, November 22, 2007 Previously on Grey's Anatomy, Derek (Patrick Dempsey) had drinks with Halfrek (Kali Rocha), Mark (Eric Dane) liked Hahn (Brooke Smith), Cristina (Sandra Oh) thought Izzie (Katherine Heigl) wasn't hardcore enough for cardiothoracic surgery, George (T.R. Knight) and Izzie struggled with their relationship, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) became chief resident. Happy Thanksgiving! Because of the holiday, I will be recapping this episode of Grey's Anatomy while mildly buzzed on glögg, a Swedish mulled wine with almonds and raisins. And vodka. You really can't forget the vodka. Anyway, tonight's episode is the first of a two-part series. It begins with Cristina dancing in Meredith's bedroom. Meredith is obsessing about what she would do if she didn't have Derek to have sex with. She wants to tell Derek not to see other people, but Cristina's solution is to just dance, man. Downstairs, Izzie is resentful of Cristina and Meredith's friendship, especially since she's not getting any with George............................cont’d http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anat...rash-14034.aspx ----------------------------------------------------------------------- EW.COM EW - TV Watch ''Grey's Anatomy'': Who's Nazi or Nice? Bailey overcomes her emotions and treats a white supremacist; plus, Lexie learns about Alex's relationship with Ava but finds a possible love interest in Seth Green Attitude adjustments were on the menu this Thanksgiving — and I couldn't be more thankful. Great life lessons from truly touching patient stories, some more great smackdowns courtesy of Dr. Hahn, and a dash of romantic comeuppance — what more could you ask for? I had a good feeling about this episode when it began with Cristina dancing. Love dancing Cristina, love being reminded that I can love Cristina. Naturally, Meredith had to do her best to ruin the moment by blah-blah-blah-ing about Thatcher and Lexie and how her problem is she's ''sleeping with a man who's dating'' and how she's still not over her issues. Though, in her defense, she did eventually shut up and dance, unlike Izzie, who just huffed on into the next room and ranted to her supposed lover, ''We should be dancing, George. Why aren't we dancing?'' Because you two are a plot device that never should have happened, darling, and the sooner you accept that, the better. .........................cont’d http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20162202,00.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- FANGASM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LA TIMES ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MSNBC MSNBC - Grey’s Gossip, Weekly udate Who's the Nazi now?: Viewers got a rare look at Bailey's home life and saw her husband complaining about her never being home. After the ambulance accident, Bailey tried to treat a white paramedic who refused treatment from black doctors. Bailey brought Cristina over and he had some issues with that, too. Turned out the guy had a swastika tattooed on his tummy. Bailey, who later insisted she never be called "Nazi" again, had to operate on the guy and he insisted a white doctor be in the room. When the abdominal surgery began, she sliced straight down the middle of the Nazi symbol – literally. White out: Cristina tried to wash her troubles away by dancing, but they were just getting started. Cristina did her best to impress Hahn and stay in cardiothoracic medicine, but Hahn sent Cristina to help Bailey with the white supremacist patient. That's gotta hurt. Me-Me-Me-Meredith: Meredith was upset that she's sleeping with a man who's dating. She decided to ask McDreamy not to date other people, but she didn't get around to it. When an ambulance driver was left on the brink of death and Meredith had to go find his wife (who is a nurse at the hospital) and break the news to her. Meredith then worried that her role in the nurse's life would always be as the person "who handed her the worst day of her life." That's Meredith, always thinking of others first!......................read on ! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14484204/?pg=2...ysAnatomy_CHART ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW YORK MAGAZINE Devouring Culture Vulture ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV GUIDE Loose Ends - Episode Recap: Crash Into You (Part One) - Nov 23, 2007 Sorry for the delay, everyone! I wish I could have watched this episode sooner, but better late than never. So, let's get to recapping... Watching Cristina "dance it out" at the start of this episode was priceless! Mer, on the other hand, probably won't be joining the cast of Dancing With the Stars anytime soon. It was almost like watching Elaine dance on Seinfeld, but I guess that's beside the point. In between her moves, I was glad to hear Mer finally say that she didn't want Derek seeing other people. Unfortunately, when the moment came for her to tell him, she chickened out and walked away. Oh, well. Judging from the previews, it looks like next week she'll finally work up enough nerve to let him know. http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...-Ends/800028114 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV SQUAD Grey's Anatomy: Crash Into Me (part one) - Posted Nov 22nd 2007 (S04E09) "No one ever better call me Nazi again." - Bailey Nothing says Happy Thanksgiving like white supremacy and ambulance accidents! OK... well, not really. But that's what we got as Grey's Anatomy slowly winds down to its final pre-WGA Strike episodes. There are only two more in the can and production on the show has been shut down. The resolution to this "event" airs in two weeks and S04E11 currently has no airdate scheduled, though I'm guessing that ABC will save it until after the New Year. Now you'll notice that I put quotes around event. Did it really feel like one? I know the mold for a big episode of Grey's Anatomy usually involves something that crashes or explodes, but this felt more like a regular episode to me. However, as forced and predictable as the cliffhangers were, I am excited to find out the resolutions..................................................cont’d http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/11/22/greys-an...to-me-part-one/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ZAP2IT 'Grey's Anatomy': Don't die on me, Grey's! - November 22, 08:15 PM I'm just going to get this out of the way right now: tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy was to be continued. In two weeks. Now that's just plain mean, ABC, writers' strike or no. (Also mean? Airing a new episode Thanksgiving night. There was almost a fistfight between the Grey's fans and the football fans in my household. Thankfully, we were all so stuffed that it fizzled out pretty quickly.) So okay, tonight was chock full of drama, melodrama, a painfully cheesy death scene, and about a million plotlines. Put on your running shoes, because this is going to be an exhausting recap!..................read on http://blog.zap2it.com/ithappenedlastnight...-anatomy-d.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- RATINGS |

SYNOPSIS Crash Into Me - Part One | Air Date: 11/22/2007 Miranda's husband is fed up because she's never home now that she's Chief Resident. He insists they talk so she tells him to come by the hospital for lunch. Meredith wants to tell Derek she doesn't want him dating anyone else, but can't bring herself to do it. Derek asks Rose about the ring she wears on a chain around her neck and she says it's a ring from an engagement that ended a year ago. Derek looks thoughtful as she says it ended because she knew what she wanted and her ex-fiance didn't. An ambulance loses control after the driver has a seizure and crashes into another ambulance already parked outside the hospital. One of the ambulance attendants refuses Miranda's help, insisting he'll wait for a male doctor, but when Richard tries to examine him, he wants to wait for a "different" doctor. Richard realizes the man wants a white doctor and orders Miranda to deal with the situation. Depressed about her lack of chemistry with George, Izzie is looking to get on a "hardcore cardio" rotation with Erica, but when she pays more attention to a patient's young daughter than the patient himself, Erica tells her she doesn't need her services for the day. One of the paramedics, Stan, has his legs stuck in the doors of the ambulance after the accident. He asks Richard to find his wife and Richard tells Meredith it's going to be for Stan to say goodbye: Once they move him, he'll bleed out and there's nothing they can do to save him. Richard asks the other paramedic, Ray, who's hanging upside down in the wrecked ambulance, to keep talking to Stan until his wife shows up. She arrives in time to say goodbye and then it's time to separate the two ambulances. Ray and Stan hold hands but Stan doesn't survive. Now that they have a clear path to Ray, they can see that the oxygen tank is imbedded in his back. They'll have to do an ultrasound to see if they can remove it and Meredith volunteers. Ray freaks out and Meredith promises him he won't die today. A man with an infected chest -- who also has shrapnel in his leg after the ambulance crash -- is upset that his children are worrying about him, instead of vice versa, and Izzie reassures him they're fine and are comforting each other. The man requests that she stay on for his surgery, so Erica reassigns Cristina to Miranda, over her protests. Erica asks Mark to help her with the infected chest surgery and when he makes "jokes and sleazy come-ons," she says she'll ask the second-best plastic surgeon instead. He apologizes and says he'll help. During the surgery, she admires his technique and he talks about his mentor who taught it to him, saying how shook up he was when the man died. Erica says she's not interested in hearing about his "wounded soul." Miranda requested Cristina to work on the racist paramedic because she's not black -- or white. Miranda reminds the patient that he might not live long with possible internal injuries and he reluctantly lets Cristina examine him. When she pulls up the man's shirt, he has a giant swastika tattoo on his stomach. Cristina asks Miranda if she can be let off the case to go back to cardio, pointing out that her stepfather's parents died in a concentration camp, so she's not thrilled about working on the guy either. Miranda tells her that the two of them will "rise above" and treat the man, regardless of his objections. He needs surgery on his liver and demands that a white doctor be present, as he's afraid they'll kill him on the operating table, so she pulls George in. Miranda misses lunch with her husband to do the operation. The driver of the ambulance has a tumor that caused her seizure. Derek is going to do a minimally invasive brain operation with a computerized probe to examine her brain, but once inside, the computer goes dead and he can't see what he's doing, meaning he can neither remove the probe nor continue. His only option is to demand a technician come out immediately to fix the system. Mark shows the residents a patient, Nick, who is in danger of bleeding out: a surgery to remove a tumor on his neck has left his carotid artery exposed. Nick is bored, so he chats up Lexie. He tells her his girlfriend left him because of the tumor and that she was a nice girl disguised as a vapid narcissist who turned out to be just a vapid narcissist. He asks if Lexie's seeing anyone and she says she is, a nice guy who can seem like a jerk. Ava unexpectedly shows up to see Alex and he tells her he's about to scrub in on a surgery he can't miss. She asks him to sneak her in to view it and he puts her in some scrubs and lets her sit in the gallery. As luck would have it, Lexie sits down next to her and Ava says she's there to watch her boyfriend operate -- pointing right at Alex. Ava asks if she knows him and Lexie says, "No, I don't know him at all." Lexie, still upset over Alex, goes to check on Nick and he asks her what's wrong. She tells him her "nice guy" boyfriend turned out to be a jerk after all. He suggests she date him to make Alex jealous and as they're laughing over his joke, his artery blows and sprays blood all over a shocked Lexie. (To Be Continued...) |
