'Grey's Anatomy' Casts Mystery Woman - October 5, 2007
Lauren Stamile tapped for recurring role - "Grey's Anatomy" has already added one new actress to its cast this season, and now it's bringing on another for a significant role. Lauren Stamile has been cast in a "major recurring role" on the hit ABC drama, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She'll make her first appearance later this season.

As with many things related to "Grey's," there's not much information to be had about her character. The HR teases that Stamile's character will share screen time with Patrick Dempsey's Dr. Derek Shepherd but doesn't disclose in what capacity, be it professional, personal or both. There's also no word on when she'll make her first appearance.

Stamile is the second major addition to the show's cast this season. Chyler Leigh has a regular role on the show as Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) half-sister, a new intern at Seattle Grace Hospital.

Stamile played Kate Jackson in NBC's 2004 movie "Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Charlie's Angels." She also co-starred in The WB's sitcom "Off Centre" and has done guest spots on "CSI: NY," "Boston Legal" and "Girlfriends," among others.

SIDES SUMMARIES

Episode 4.08 - Forever Young - Detailed Plot and Role Descriptions - Friday, 21 September 2007
Thanks to Cathalina for this excellent and detailed summary.

Tricia and Ariana - Tricia is the captain of the pom squad (yes, its different than cheerleading for many reasons which I just learned reading these sides). When we first meet her, she is humiliated that all the interns are in the back watching her be examined by Dr. Taylor and Dr. Martin since her backside is totally exposed. She is being treated for a gash to her face, a fractured femur, and a shattered tailbone - or as Tricia eloquently puts it she broke her ass. Tricia is very upset to learn that she may have some facial scarring, but she is devesated to learn that due to her injuries she will be unable to dance or be in a state competition.

Ariana comes in under the guise of trying to be supportive to Tricia, but in reality she is rubbing in her face that she is replacing her as team captain. After all, Ariana prayed about it and God thinks its the right thing to do, and God also thinks that Ariana should improve on Tricia's movements (Okay - with wars going on in the world and children suffering every day the Almighty has time to work on cheerleading moves? This girl is obviously in need of some help). She also tells her that she may have convinced Randy to still take Tricia to homecoming even though her face and her ass are messed up. Dr. Martin tells her to go, and thank you for that because if this girl is half as annoying in the show as she is in the sides I'm going to need a drink for her scene alone. Well, Tricia cries telling Dr. Martin that her life is over.

Post-Op, Dr.Martin tells Tricia that she is healing nicely, but Tricia's emotional state is obviously not and she is lamenting her inability to dance for a year. Dr. Martin sympathizes with the girl, and tells her that she was recently fired from her job as kind of a "team captain" (this sounds like Callie has lost Chief Resident because, you know, George cheating on her with Izzie is not enough to deal with) but sometimes when things happen that you didn't plan it can be a gift. Dr. Martin is happy not to deal with the scheduling crap and is happy to be back to being just a surgeon.

Marissa and Danny - Dr. Smith is examining Danny, who is telling him what happened. It seems some of the "dumb jocks" in their Chem Lab class were not listening to the teacher and mixing solutions which caused an explosion. A piece of glass went flying all the way to the back of his eye, but the two teens do not realize how serious the injury is until Dr. Smith tells an irate Danny that he should calm down due to the danger in the pressure in his eye growing. Danny asks how he can calm down, and Dr. Smith tells him to just think that in a year he will be out of high school and he will never have to see those kids again, and in the future while he is doing great things with his life the "dumb jocks" will be wondering what went wrong with theirs (LOL! I guess that these doctors are all dumb jocks I guess!). Later, when they are wheeling Danny to surgery Marissa is teasing him, telling him he'd better not go blind because if he does then he can't go to their school and she doesn't want to go back to 11th grade without him. Then the doors close behind him.

Dr. Acker is also on the case, but she avoids giving Marissa updates on what happened and the onus falls on Dr. Smith. Danny did not make it through surgery. Basically, his brain swelled until it had nowhere else to go. Dr. Acker watches from the Nurses' Station as Dr. Smith comforts the collapsed, sobbing Marissa.

Emma and Janie - This is the funny part of the episode. Dr. Taylor and Dr. Thomas are enjoying some lunch when Dr. Thomas realizes that two teenage girls are checking Dr. Taylor out. Dr. Taylor says that he gets that a lot and motions the girls over and asks if he can do anything for them. Well, his ego quickly deflates when he realizes that they were looking at him because he looks exactly like one of their fathers (HA!) Then they see an attractive younger doctor and go off to follow and talk about him. Dr. Thomas COULD NOT LOVE THIS MORE.

Marcus - An old high school friend of one of the doctors, who gushes on about how smart she is and yadda yadda yadda. He has a slight heart problem. I think this may be a friend of Lexie's.

Lauren/Rose - One of the doctors comes over to her and she tells him not to give her that look. When he is confused she responds that he always gives that "look" when he wants something, and it would be cute if it weren't so manipulative. He says he's sorry for something he did before, that he was dismissive of her in surgery. She responds that he doesn't even know her name, and that is odd because she has scrubbed in on many of his surgeries and he still doesn't know her name. If he doesn't know that, they why is it important that she accepts his apologies. He surprises her with the fact that he does know her name, and even though he had to ask someone she is suitably impressed.

Question: In the Oct. 10 AA, you said Lauren Stamile would be Derek's new love interest on Grey's Anatomy, but I haven't seen any other spoilers to support this. — Angela
Ausiello: Are you fact-checking my stories? If so, where the hell were you during that whole Damages debacle? In any event, there's no need to vet my Stamile item; she's definitely coming in as a love interest for Patrick Dempsey. In fact, their first date is scheduled for Nov. 15.

* new 10/29 - Things will get more complicated [betweek Meredith and Derek] before they get any easier. Sources confirm to me that Lauren Stamile is most definitely a new love interest for Derek, and she'll be sticking around for a while. I'm told she's pretty much the anti-Meredith (all the way around-looks and personality) and will make Derek somewhat conflicted. Source: Kristin on E!Online

* new 10/24 - Two teens stare at a doctor. He likes the attention and decides to go see them. His ego takes a beating when one of the ladies say he looks exactly like the other's father. Then, the two women start dreaming about another dreamy doctor who just arrived at the cafeteria. A teen gets injured by a piece of flying glass during a class at school and needs brain surgery. Another teen, who is the captain of a pom pom team, drops by the hospital with a broken coccyx and a fracture at the top of her femur. * new 10/17 - I got an unconfirmed tip that Gizzie is still alive and kicking in Episode 8. My mole also reports that in the same episode, Mer and Der are still going strong with their whole let's-have-sex-but-not-be-super-serious thing. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide

SONG TITLE REFERENCE & LYRICS

Title reference: The episode title refers to a song by Bob Dylan, covered by Youth Group, Alphaville and Rod Stewart.

FOREVER YOUNG
(R. Stewart/J.Cregan/K.Savigar)

May the good Lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you'd have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
with a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
and in my heart you will remain
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young
Forever Young

And when you finally fly away
I'll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I'm right behind you, win or lose
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young ,Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young
For, Forever Young, Forever Young

VOICE OVERS & QUOTES

Episode 4.08 'Forever Young'
Meredith: [voice over] There comes a point in your life when you’re officially an adult. Suddenly you’re old enough to vote, drink and engage in other adult activities. Suddenly people expect you to be responsible, serious, a grown-up. We get taller ..... we get older ..... but do we ever really grow up.

Meredith: [voice over] In some ways we grow up. We have families, we get married, divorced. But for the most part we still have the same problems that we did when we were fifteen. No matter how much we grow taller, grow older..... we are still forever stumbling, forever wondering......forever...... young.

BUDDYTV

Grey's Anatomy: Episode 4.8 "Forever Young" Recap - Thursday, November 15, 2007
Tonight's Grey's Anatomy is all about growing up. Or, not growing up, as the title suggests. Derek and Halfrek (Kali Rocha) open the episode by having drinks at the Emerald City Bar. As if they are in a high school cafeteria, this catches the attention of everyone else around. Meredith glowers at them from across the bar.
At the hospital, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) posts a sign indicating that, effective immediately, she will be the new chief resident, and she does a little happy dance. Halfrek gives Bailey a congratulatory hug and offers her condolences to Callie (Sara Ramirez). Hopefully, at least one night has passed since the opening of the episode at the bar, or else all of Seattle Grace's doctors have shown up to work buzzed...................cont’d

EW - TV Watch - ''Grey's Anatomy'': Passive-Regressive
A bus accident makes the staffers -- especially Bailey -- confront their teenage selves; plus, drunk Daddy Grey plays Meredith and Lexie - The trouble with TV's addiction to voice-over narration is that it takes a lot of the magic out of these recaps. I mean, wouldn't it be so much more fun if right here were the first time you were hearing that this week's episode of Grey's Anatomy was all about the doctors reliving their teen issues through a high school bus crash? But, no, Meredith ruined that for us. ''Do we ever really grow up?'' she asked just after we watched dorky Dr. Sydney hit on presumably cool kid McDreamy (though it's hard not to also think about Patrick Dempsey's star-making turn as the totally geek turned totally chic Ronald in Can't Buy Me Love). ''There comes a point in your life when you're officially an adult,'' Meredith also told us, contradicting most of what we've seen on this show. Which, yes, I get it, is exactly the point........cont’d

'Grey's Anatomy': high school dramas relived - November 16, 2007
t is to be hoped that the writers and producers settle their differences quickly, if for no other reason than that "Grey's Anatomy" is getting good again. While it is far too easy for fans to read things into any sort of change on such a clacked-about show, there does seem to be a relationship between the complaints of last season and the developments of this. So maybe those interactive network websites aren't just for show after all.

First there was the introduction of Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith) to the permanent staff. Competitive and combative, Hahn cut through a lot of the treacle build-up from last season, making comments that could have come right from America's exasperated living rooms and giving us reason to hope that some of the women might just remember they are doctors, not high school drama queens.

Last night took the theme of self-examination one step further, with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) informing us that a hospital can, at times, seem like nothing so much as high school. No kidding. A few minutes later, Bailey (Chandra Wilson), the new chief resident, read everyone the riot act, pointing out that the locker room was for changing, "not crying," and that the on-call room should not be used for anything requiring a locked door. "Grow up," she told Izzie (Katherine Heigl), busy whispering about her fizzling romance with George, and thousands cheered.......................some more......

MSNBC - Grey’s Gossip, Weekly udate - Nov. 15
Seattle Grace High School: McDreamy went on a date with Sydney, just because. At the hospital, McDreamy had to operate on a kid who got a pencil stuck in his eye when a school bus crashed and turned the hospital into a high school. Everyone’s personalities and relationships were examined through the lens of high school, which was a real stretch. Cliques were exposed and insecurities uncovered. McDreamy was confronted by a nurse, Rose, who he had never noticed in 36 surgeries together. Could Rose become a thorn in Meredith’s side?
Rumor has it: George was avoiding Izzie because their sex was bad. They couldn’t have lunch — let alone a conversation — without some serious awkwardness. Word got around the hospital that there was trouble in Gizzie-dise, and Izzie overheard a couple of the new interns talking about how their relationship is over. George and Izzie talked about how they miss their best friends, and then told each other about their relationship troubles as if they didn’t know who they were talking about. They weren’t alone...............................................keep going.......

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Schoolkids Become Teachers! - 11/16/07
This week, Meredith tells us that we'll be exploring the concept of growing up, becoming an adult, and zzzz. Seriously, how old is Meredith supposed to be on this show? 30? We'd say Ellen Pompeo's skin puts her at about, oh, 57, but nobody asked us, so … Anyway, a school-bus crash fills the ER with a gaggle of high-school kids who proceed to teach the doctors important lessons about their own maturity. Just Like Old Times - Episode Recap: "Forever Young" (November 15, 2007)
Tonight, Bailey took charge and let the residents know there was a new boss in town, but she soon lost her drive when an old crush, Marcus (D.B. Woodside), appeared in the ER. So, while I was excited to see the old Bailey laying down the law early on, I was equally disappointed to see her turn to mush for a guy who obviously used her all throughout high school. And so we had our theme for the night---Seattle Grace is just like high school!
While George and Izzie did their best to avoid each other tonight, rumors regarding their rocky relationship kept cropping up everywhere. I have to admit, watching Izzie confront George by saying, "I heard we broke-up," certainly took me back to my school days. Sure, the hallway dramas back then were painful to watch and even more painful to be a part of, but a part of me found myself longing for those days again. Thanks for making me all sentimental, Shonda!.................cont’d

TV SQUAD

Grey's Anatomy: Forever Young - Posted Nov 16th 2007
(S04E08) "You want me to fake a heart attack? I do a great fake heart attack." - Sloan

Oh my god, me writing this is like totally like a term paper! Hellooo stereotypes and clichés! Who thought of this idea? Let's compare the show to high school? Cliques, cheerleaders, nerds, best friends, secrets, sex, and jocks. Weren't these types of comparisons blatantly obvious without all the teeny-boppers running around? The only thing that was missing was a prom... wait, that already happened. It got to the point where I was yelling at the TV, "Ooh ooh, this is gonna be a principal's office joke!" And it was. However, if you can look past the high school level writing that went into this episode, it was actually pretty good.

There was a lot of great stuff, despite the fact that most of it was tainted with some sort of terrible teenage metaphor. Blame the school bus that crashed near Seattle Grace for that one. The injured kids and their teachers came pouring in and characters like Bailey (who had just started to get her Nazi on again) were reduced to what Hahn called "blithering idiots." 24's D.B. Woodside guested as a former high school jock who Bailey used to tutor. She was head over heels for him back then and he took advantage of her to get all his homework done. It was crazy to see how well he still manipulated Bailey all those years later -- she was still smitten..............................cont’d

'Grey's Anatomy': Teenage wasteland - November 15, 07:38 PM
What is it with Grey's Anatomy and foreign objects shoved into eyes? Because I have to say, it's really, really not okay. Also not okay? Cliquey high schoolers, who make me want to shove a pencil in my eye. Just sayin'. (Spoilers are no pencil in the eye, but still something to be avoided...)

Our case of the week is a high school bus crash, which features the aforementioned PENCIL IN THE EYE (I'm shuddering all over again just thinking about it). And by "pencil in the eye," I mean, "pencil in the eye and brain." And they waited until seeing the scan results to book an OR? Like there was a chance they could just pull it right back out, no harm, no foul? They actually do end up going with the "just pull it out" strategy in surgery (what else would you do, really?), which doesn't work out well for our patient, who ends up in a coma. Which, in turn, doesn't work out for his best friend, since they were pretty much all each other had at school. Here's a PSA to you loners out there: Make more than one friend, so that if you end up with a pencil in the eye, your friend isn't left all alone in the world while you're in a coma. (Chime) The more you know... ........ reading more....

SYNOPSIS

Forever Young | Air Date: 11/15/2007
An accident brings a busload of high school students into the hospital. The driver, Marcus, happens to be someone Miranda knew -- and still has a crush on -- from high school. George is amazed to see her stitch up the man's arm himself. Erica diagnoses a slight heart condition and tells Miranda that if she weren't busy flirting, she could have made the diagnosis herself. George asks if they were high school sweethearts and, as Miranda is filling out Marcus's insurance forms, she admits that she was only his tutor. Richard instructs Miranda to let Marcus fill out his own paperwork and just then Marcus goes into cardiac arrest.

Cristina is jubilant that she's back on rotation with Erica in cardiology, but can't find a way to impress her. Callie tells her to back off or she'll blow her chance.

The hospital staff relives its own high school cliques in tending to the students: Lexie admits she never knew how to relate to unpopular teens -- like the patient with the pencil stuck in his eye -- since she was prom queen and class valedictorian. Izzie advises her not to broadcast that fact. Derek is able to remove the pencil but the boy, Danny, goes into a coma. His best friend waits to hear if he'll be okay and Derek doesn't know how to tell her he's not going to ever wake up.

Both Izzie and George confide in Meredith about their rotten sex life and how they can't talk to each other anymore. Callie is pleased to hear that Izzie and George aren't even getting along. Word is soon all over the hospital, to Izzie's dismay. She demands her key back from George since he's apparently been telling everyone that they broke up. George pleads ignorance, saying he only talked to Meredith.

Derek finally has no choice but to tell the friend that Danny is never waking up. Izzie tries to console the girl, but she says Izzie couldn't understand, since she's one of "them." Izzie assures her she wasn't a prom queen, and with Lexie listening, tells the student that she was "the girl in cheap clothes from the trailer park who got pregnant." She assures her that she'll get through it and she knows what it's like to lose a best friend.

George is waiting for Izzie when she gets home. He says he only talked to Meredith because he can't talk to her anymore. They agree they miss being each other's best friend.

Cristina skips the cardio surgery on Marcus, which she desperately wants to be in on, because she doesn't want to be labeled as a brown noser. She's excited when Erica finally pages her, even if it's to chew her out for not bringing her all the scans she needed.

A nurse tells Derek she's touched he took Danny's condition so hard. "You don't even know who I am," she says and he remembers that she's the nurse in the OR who talked about how there are just as many cliques in the hospital as there were in high school. Derek is intrigued as he watches her walk away.

Callie consoles an injured cheerleader that her life is not over, just because she won't be captain of the squad anymore. She says that because of her own demotion, she gets to go back to what she loves, which is surgery.

After his surgery, Miranda is moved when Marcus thanks her for always taking care of him... and then asks if she finished his paperwork. George, who overheard, tells her that Marcus deserves a tongue-lashing for the way he's treated her and Miranda just walks away. She ends up taking her anger out on Derek, because "guys like him" don't understand "girls like her," saying that even though she's a successful surgeon, she might as well still be the awkward teenager in a band uniform who tutored the track star but never got asked to the prom. Derek tells her he was a scrawny little band geek himself and that he would have been honored to take a girl like her to homecoming.

Meredith is dismayed to see Derek on a date with Sydney. Then Thatcher shows up drunk at the ER. Alex had first tried to find Lexie but turned to Meredith when she blew him off. Thatcher apologizes to Meredith for what he said the last time he saw her and that no longer blames her for Susan's death. He admits his drinking is out of control because today was Susan's birthday. While Meredith patches him up, he tells her he how proud he is of her.

Lexie is angry with Alex for letting Meredith treat Thatcher, because he had promised not to tell her about their father's drinking. Alex tells Lexie he doesn't "do secrets" and that he was cleaning up after his own drunk of a father since he was 7.

Meredith tells Lexie how tough it must have been for her and Thatcher today, it being Susan's birthday, and that he was actually rather charming. She advises Lexie to keep a better eye on her father and Lexie bitterly tells her, "Every day is my mother's birthday. He's a drunk," she says, adding how he always goes on about how proud he is of Lexie, when he's not calling her an "ungrateful bitch." Meredith is devastated to find out everything her father said was a lie.
