MEDICAL STORIES Sunday, 12 August 2007 18-year-old Courtney learns that her cancer has came back and is getting worse. She is told of the options opened to her but she wants none of them. She wants to go back home and die there. Elsewhere, a woman who was told she was terminal and decided to end everything in her life (break up with her boyfriend, get rid of her possessions, quit her job) learns that she will live afterall. A woman named Ruthie comes to the ER because of an injured foot. The doctor learns that Ruthie has been on an extreme regime and training in order to lose 40 pounds. Ruthie and her fiancé Will admit that they agreed to get married when Ruthie lost 40 pounds. In exchange for the sacrifice, Will would quit smoking. The doctor tells the couple that, besides the foot injury, Ruthie has two other fractures. In order for the repairs to hold and recovery to be faster, she will need to eat. After vomiting, she is brough in surgery. Later, the doctor finds Will smoking. He says that Ruthie will forgive him. Thing is, Ruthie died because her body was too weak. The doctor calls Will on his need to make Ruthie be hot instead of accepting her for who she was. Source: SpoilerFix.com http://spoilertv-greysanatomy.blogspot.com/ A teen soccer player needs counseling and surgery. Another patient's cancer is back. Someone from last season reappears. SIDES SUMMARY Adam - 15 - A High School Soccer Player. Injured playing football. Spine injury Stanley - 35 - Adam's father Arlene - Courtney's Mother Ms. Bitzer -Thinks she's dying, left her job & boyfriend to travel but not dying. Ruthie - 28 - Fiance to Will. Fit and Attractive Will - 30 - Fiance to Ruthie. Fit and Attractive Episode 4 - The Heart Of The Matter - Casting Side Summary - Update Friday, 10 August 2007 Thanks ever so much to Cathalina for this new Casting Summary for a character called Courtney. Courtney - As a note: There are no sides for "Doug", and it is mentioned that he is a doctor in the sides so he could be someone on canvas OR another possibility is that "Doug" is Edward Herrmann who is scheduled to appear as a guest star. Keep in mind, even though they mention that Courtney is Doug's daughter, they could change the relation (niece, sister, etc.) from the sides to the actual show. So, have fun speculating! ;) Arlene and Doug tell Courtney that not only has her cancer come back, but it has progressed. Doug tells her that they have options, surgery and more radical chemo. Courtney has no desire to go through it. She knows she is dying and she doesn't want to die in the hospital - she wants to go home. Arlene argues with her that she is sick and can't make these decisions since she is too young and Arlene is her mother. Courtney responds that she is 18 and it IS her decision. Arlene begs Doug to talk Courtney into following through with the medical intervention. When alone, Doug tells Courtney that he loves her and as a doctor he has a medical plan that could keep her alive. He also tells her that he wants her to try because his life is better with her in it. However, as her father she is his little girl, and even though it will hurt him he wants HER to have what she wants since it ultimately is her life. Courtney is appreciative, and Doug tells her "let's go home." Source: SpoilerTV http://spoilertv-greysanatomy.blogspot.com...ng-side_10.html Episode 4 - The Heart Of The Matter - Casting Side Summary - Friday, 10 August 2007 07:21 Thanks as always to Cathalina for the info. Will and Ruthie - They are an engaged couple in their late twenties, early thirties. Dr. Taylor examines Ruthie's foot and they tell him/her that they are getting married soon, since they had a deal that they would marry when Ruthie lost forty pounds. In exchange, Will would quit smoking. However, it seems that Ruthie has taken it to the extreme, with Will's blessing, and Dr. Taylor seems none too impressed by Will. Ruthie keeps asking for a painkiller, insisting that she's fine and needs to get back to her regime. Dr. Thomas (since its ortho its probably Callie) and tells Ruthie that not only did she fracture her ankle on the stairmaster, but she has two other fractures that went untreated. Dr. Thomas informs the couple that even if these injuries are repaired, unless Ruthie eats more and exercises less the repairs will not hold. Ruthie says she can't do that - she only has ten more pounds. Later, Dr. Taylor is explaining Ruthie's surgery to the couple. It seems Ruthie will need an eight week recovery period, and it will take longer if she doesn't eat. Dr. Thomas tells them that they may want to cancel the wedding, and Will picks up on the hostility and asks Dr. Thomas what his/her problem is. Dr. Thomas responds that he/she doesn't have one since they're not the ones marry Will. Ruthie starts convulsing and vomiting blood. They take her to emergency surgery. Dr. Thomas finds Will outside in the Breezeway. He has a cigarette in his mouth, and Dr. Thomas calls him on it. He responds that Ruthie would forgive him, but Dr. Thomas says she can't because Ruthie is dead, she bled to death since her body was weakened by the excessive dieting and excercise. Will protests that he only wanted Ruthie to be healthy, but Dr. Thomas tells him she was healthy at a heavier weight - he just wanted her to be hot. Dr. Thomas also says that Will could not have loved Ruthie, since "You don't destroy the people that you love." Will threatens Dr. Thomas, telling him/her to get away from him. Dr. Thomas asks if Will is going to hit him/her, because if so they've been looking for an excuse to kick someone's ass all day. Dr. Taylor enters. Stanley and Adam - Adam is Stanley's teen son. Adam was injured during a soccer scrimmage. When describing how he was injured Adam is interrupted by his father, who makes it clear that he thinks Adam could have avoided being injured if he were a better player (because, you know, all young American teens SHOULD play like David Beckham). Adam's injuries are very severe - he has smashed one vertebrae and compressed two others. The only thing that could make him walk again is very risky, and its not a sure thing either. Adam asks his father bitterly that if he is paralyzed can he NOW quit the team? The risky procedure from the sides sound like something out of "Saw". They drill holes into his skull and attach a harness to them, and somehow weights will be attached and Adam is going to have to lift them. Adam is going through the procedure, and begins to lose his nerve. One doctor gets to Adam by telling him he has to continue to spite his father. Considering that Adam is a teen and his father is a bit of an idiot, those seem to be the magic words. Adam completes the procedure. Ms. Bitzer- This seems to be the funny case. She is originally told that she is terminal, and she methodically goes about planning her end. She quits her job, breaks up with her boyfriend, gets rid of her apartment. Turns out, she's not dying. She begins to cry again - why? Because she is now going to live and she has no job, no boyfriend, etc. Arlene - This was interesting since other characters appear in the sides (Laura and Doug) but there are no sides for them. There are sides for Courtney, however. Arlene is Courtney's mother and Doug's wife. It seems that Courtney was having lunch with Laura when she couldn't breathe. Unfortunately for Courtney, her cancer is back and she does not want treatment. Arlene and Doug are going to try to convince her to have the treatment. Source: SpoilerTV http://spoilertv-greysanatomy.blogspot.com...sting-side.html Episode 4 - The Heart Of The Matter - Casting Side Update - Thursday, 16 August 2007 Thanks to Cathalina here are some more details from the Casting Sides. Housekeeping Staffer - This is related to the Mrs. Blitzer case (the woman who was allegedly dying, gave up everything, and then the doctors find out that she isn't dying). Dr. Smith and Walters are arguing down the hallway. Dr. Smith (the sides indicate that she is a female - although the ortho that they tried to play off as male in the sides we are pretty sure has to be Callie, so it could be anyone) is yelling at Dr. Walters for not doing the "one thing" they were asked to do. They come upon Mrs. Blitzer's room and find the bed being made up by the Housekeeping Staffer, who tells them that Mrs. Blitzer left an hour ago. Dr. Smith is surprised that she's gone and has left the hospital. Dr. Walters responds asks Dr. Smith if they feel like yelling some more now. Just a note: This may be one of those scenes where they are trying to hide what is actually going on. First off, they give a room number for the hospital room which they rarely do -2231- which actually sounds more like a room at the hotel than a hospital room. Secondly, they are referring to the woman as Mrs. Blitzer, when in her set of sides she was not married and broke up with her boyfriend. So, it may be EXACTLY as is, but it does seem fishy. SONG TITLE REFERENCE & LYRICS "The Heart of the Matter" by Don Henley and India.Arie The Heart of the Matter, is an emotive chance remembrance of a lost love. Both songs use the effective technique of varying the words in the chorus each time it is sung, to advance the song's narrative. I got the call today, I didn't wanna hear But I knew that it would come An old, true friend of ours was talkin' on the phone She said you'd found someone And I thought of all the bad luck, And the struggles we went through And how I lost me and you lost you What are these voices outside loves open door Make us throw off our contentment And beg for something more? Im learning to live without you now But I miss you sometimes The more I know, the less I understand All the things I thought I knew, I'm learning again Ive been tryin' to get down To the heart of the matter But my will gets weak And my thoughts seem to scatter But I think its about forgiveness Forgiveness Even if, even if you don't love me anymore These times are so uncertain Theres a yearning undefined And people filled with rage We all need a little tenderness How can love survive in such a graceless age? The trust and self-assurance that lead to happiness Theyre the very things - we kill I guess Pride and competition Cannot fill these empty arms And the work I put between us You know it doesn't keep me warm Im learning to live without you now But I miss you, baby And the more I know, the less I understand All the things I thought Id figured out I have to learn again Ive been trying to get down To the heart of the matter But everything changes And my friends seem to scatter But I think its about forgiveness Forgiveness Even if, even if you don't love me anymore There are people in your life who've come and gone They let you down you know they hurt your pride You better put it all behind you baby; life goes on You keep carryin' that anger; it'll eat you up inside, baby Ive been trying to get down To the heart of the matter But my will gets weak And my thought seem to scatter But I think its about forgiveness Forgiveness Even if, even if you don't love me Ive been tryin' to get down To the heart of the matter Because the flesh will get weak And the ashes will scatter So I'm thinkin' about forgiveness Forgiveness Even if, even if you don't love me Forgiveness Forgiveness - baby Forgiveness Forgiveness Forgiveness Forgiveness Even if, you don't love me anymore 4.04 The Heart of the Matter a haircut and a little older...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSHst7LF6yw vintage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FglsDQguWow |

PODCAST 10.19.07 - Executive Producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers look back at the Heart of the Matter and drop hints about what ‘Haunt You Every Day’ is about. That episode airs October 25th at 9pm. Derek realizes that deep down Meredith is still an intern, Callie tries to forgive George and Izzie prepares for a showdown at noon. All that and more in today’s official Grey’s Anatomy podcast hosted by abc.com. Well, last night’s episode saw more than one showdown between our beloved characters. In addition to Izzie’s almost brawl with Callie, Chief Webber went up against Adele when she asked him to convince their niece to undergo radical cancer treatment. Executive producer’s Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers join us now to get to the heart of those matters, plus preview the Halloween episode called ‘Haunt You Every Day.’ That episode airs Thursday, October 25th at 9:00 pm on abc, and is available the next day on abc.com. Hi! Hi! Shonda. Betsy. Grey’s Anatomy. It’s been another lovely week over at…it’s fabulous over here at Grey’s Anatomy. We’ve had a couple of things in that last couple of weeks which have been great. And I to say that episode 4.04 which is entitled ‘The Heart of the Matter’ is probably my favorite episode of the season thus far that you have seen. This is an amazingly but emotional and sort of seminal episode in terms of where we are going. Yeah, I mean there were several things. One, the whole idea that Callie is going to kick Izzie’s ass and that Izzie actually believes that that is going to happen. And then she sort of talks herself into her trailer park fighter mode in the lunchroom…one of my favorite things ever. One of my other favorite things ever, that I just kept pitching, and they kept saying ‘Really, do we have to shoot this? How much do we have to shoot?’ Like all of George running…was George just flying through the hospital on a continuous basis just looking for Izzie…everywhere…crashing into things and flying across that catwalk. And it was just one of my favorite things ever, I love that. And actually, the truth is, we did have moments where we were looking at our production schedule, and people kept saying ‘Why do we need so much running? Why do we need so much running?’ and Shonda was like ‘Trust me. You need all the running because the running sets up the high noon stuff later.’ So it’s just great and T.R was amazing at it. He really threw himself into it. T.R actually came up with the idea of smashing into the cart hitting all sorts of difficult and painful things. Falling down, and then if you go back and look at it, my favorite detail is he smashes into the crash cart, picks something up which has dropped off the cart, he can barely stand…he can barely stand up and he leans over and he puts it back and then he finds out where she is and he goes charging. Yeah, it’s pretty great. We love that. And I really like that the episode starts with Callie basically saying ‘I forgive you’ to George which is the last thing I think he, or anyone would have expected. I think she is furious, I think she’s upset, I think she’s incredibly, incredibly hurt. But I think she is a girl who took vows, and she really believes in it, she was really trying there. And for George to sort of take that in and be like, ‘She forgave me so that’s how it’s going to be,’ and then to get to that point at the end of the episode where she’s, you know, to get to the fight moment where she’s realizing that, you know, Izzie thinks that she’s going to fight her and it’s very, very humiliating. And that amazing speech that she gives Izzie about the idea of ‘you think I’m supposed to forgive you,’ and she calls her a traitorous bitch…which was one of my favorite lines ever and she delivered it exactly the way you hope a line like that is delivered as apposed to if we were on…it really felt real, and hurt, and pissed off…it was just great. And then to get to the end moment where she says to George, ‘you know, you’re right. I don’t forgive you,’ was great, and we talked a lot in the writer’s room about whether she should say ‘I hate you’ or say more to George and the reality of it is all she needs to say is ‘I don’t forgive you.’ Well, and I think what’s great is that in a weird way there is another aspect to this which is…she’s still a little in shock, like she goes to a place where…totally in shock…she says ‘I forgive you.’ And I think we have all been through situations where you actually…you want the reality to be different than it is, so you try to do the right thing and you numb yourself and you do it, and the process of this episode…Yeah, I think everybody says to themselves ‘okay, this thing happened. We can get passed this, we can past this,’ because what you want is for everything to go back to being the way it was. And you realize it never will be. And you think maybe if you close your eyes and hold your breath maybe it will. And the whole episode for me is this process where she is humiliated by Izzie, where this entire thing takes place where it actually pushes her into the reality of actually being angry. Which she needs to be, which is incredibly healthy, which she had to go through. This sort of hideous surreal reality of this bar fight…which is great…which never took place. But it was the process that she needed I think, to get into that place. Yeah. I love that the fight goes from being incredibly funny to incredibly sad. I think that’s what made it interesting. And also I just like to listen to doctor’s talk about ‘if you actually had to have a slug fest or something what would you protect?’ Which I think is very interesting. It’s ‘please protect your face…no, no your hands…protect your hands.’ It’s like ‘fight with your elbows….what should you do’ so. We kind of have an obsession with that. You know we’ve had slap fights last season. We did. We had a slap fight last season, we also had a ‘girl-on-girl’ slam against the locker moment…a little bit…which was awesome. Which I think sets up the expectation that there is going to be a fight when in fact poor Callie was just looking to have an actual conversation. And I love that Izzie tells Alex that she slept with George in the most casual way, because she is so past whatever happened between the two of them. And he’s not. I don’t necessarily know that Alex feels that he is madly in love with Izzie, but I do know that Alex feels like Izzie…if there was ever going to be a ‘one,’ it would have been Izzie. Well, and Alex…it’s that whole thing of ‘was vulnerable’…allowed himself to be vulnerable, got shut down and still hasn’t recovered from that experience. Exactly. My other favorite moment of the episode is the storyline that culminates in Derek telling Meredith that he wants to marry her. Aww. Which….yeah….which was sort of that whole realization that she’s not ready. I mean, she’s not ready on so many levels. And that he understands why she’s not ready. And he completely gets why she’s not ready because she’s still an intern…that he want’s to marry her and have kids with her and grow old with her. That was one of my favorite, favorite moments. Well, yeah. Because Derek is proposing. Derek proposed. I mean, Derek proposed, but Derek also proposed knowing that it is not something she is ready to hear. And I love that he proposes and says ‘see what happens’…you know, she starts to look a little bit like a scared pony…a deer caught in the headlights….yeah…and he’s sort of ‘see what happens’…it’s just lovely. And I love basically what he says at the end. While he’s waiting for her, he might meet somebody who is willing to give him all those things that she’s not. And he can’t guarantee. And she says ‘what if you do’ with kind of all the confidence in the world. I love the expression on her face because she has that sort of flirty…everything’s going to be okay. Well, it’s not just that she’s also a little pissed. Like, ‘don’t you dare talk about another woman’ which I get because with everything they have been through. And he says ‘I don’t know’ which was a very honest answer. But I also think there is this confidence in her face. Well he just basically said ‘I want to marry you for the rest of my life.’ That would do it. Yeah. And he says ‘I don’t know’ which…I’m just telling you guys to prepare you guys for a possible eventuality of…Derek really doesn’t know what he would do. So. You know, you might want to think about that a little bit when you lie in bed at night. When you are avoiding thinking about your own actual life. Exactly. And that Meredith still has a little bit of growing to do in her own way. Meredith still has a little bit of growing to do. And needs a little space to do it. You guys, we are going to get her there…we are going to get her grown up at some point. She really is. She’s just got some stuff she has to deal with. Exactly. And there’s that incredibly emotional storyline of the Chief’s niece coming and the culmination and the end of his relationship as a result of the fact that he try’s to do what is right for the patient. Yeah, and Adele…you know, happens with a lifetime of trying to understand. And I love when she says ‘the one time I ask you to do your job, to save this family and you just can’t do it.’ And it…it’s everything that has ever been wrong with their relationship in the first place. What a heart-breaking situation to be in…I mean, just in terms of what a choice. To be the surgeon who in theory could extend the life, but also have to stand there with your own niece who you love, who is like their child…they never had a child….and have to essentially agree to sign her death warrant, in a strange way. And also how difficult that is for Adele. Exactly. Regardless…incredibly emotional. Very heart-breaking. And then we have Cristina and Lexie. Which…what I loved about this was that Lexie gets a little bit cocky in this episode. She’s chatting it up with Derek and she’s having fun talking to an attending and sort of gives Cristina a little bit of lip about calling her three…which I love. And Cristina kind of gets…I mean, gets her confidence a little bit shaken, or at least the confidence that she feels doctors have shaken by Derek’s siding with Lexie. And then in surgery realizing that, you know what, Lexie is in fact just an intern. She might seem great, she might seem smart but she is just an intern. I don’t know, I kind of love that whole storyline, and in the end, you know, Cristina is back to calling Lexie three. And Lexie’s back to hearing it. Yeah, and Lexie’s back to hearing it and letting it in. Accepting it, basically. One of my favorite things is Edward Herrmann and Meredith. You know what, I was going to bring that up just because, just as a storyline and the fact that you start the episode with Izzie talking about penmanship and it is penmanship that sinks everybody which I think is just…it’s this little throw in at the beginning when Izzie is giving them the lecture because she never has anything to do with her interns, and then in fact that he couldn’t read the chart…yeah, I just loved. Because of the wrong number was on the chart. Exactly. And I just loved, like, ‘oh, it’s a two not a three,’ okay whatever….but it’s also just this really funny, horrible run up of how easy that would be to do. Yeah. And also, you know, Meredith dealing with Norman all day who is trying really hard to fit in now…what I loved about Norman…I mean, he’s trying to say like ‘oh crap’, he’s trying to say ‘seriously,’ he’s wearing a t-shirt under his scrubs. Yeah, he’s trying to know if it is McSteamy or McSleezy or Mc…..like he’s really trying which I found charming. Absolutely charming. They actually have a really good relationship together. Meredith actually worked better with the poor character than anyone else. Well, Meredith works better with pretty much anybody. She plays really well. She’s plays better than Alex definitely does. Ohhh yeah. I guess there is no real competition in terms of that. But I thought there was something really charming about that whole storyline and the woman comes back and she is a little bit upset to find out that she’s not going to die because she has given up her whole life. So it’s kind of the revelation for her. Yeah. I also like she decided to (inaudible…if anyone knows what that says, please add it in ). I know! It’s totally arbitrary, it’s great! Is it like a party all the time? Did somebody have something about (??) that was totally awesome. Exactly, it was great. And I loved Mark’s frustration with them, and the moment when he says to Derek, ‘you know, Meredith is still an intern. The only difference between her and that old guy she’s dragging around with her is that she’s not sleeping with the old guy.’ Very, very clean and clear. Absolutely. It’s absolutely the case. So, I think…I think this is a weird turning point in a lot of ways for a lot of the characters. Which is why it feels so pivotal. We had a little football story, which is our tiny little shout out to a show to a network called ‘Friday Night Lights.’ Which we are all a little obsessed with. We carry a little football in for. We think it is pretty awesome. It has this guy, who you might remember as blowing up on our show. But we did our sort of homage to football, since none of us actually…none of us, and I mean literally none of us…know anything about football except for what you see on the show. I hear there is a football involved…that’s pretty much it. Yes, exactly. And they wear outfits, I think, with hats. I don’t think you are supposed to call them outfits. Okay, I rest my case. Outfits with hats sounds like a little suit and a flowered straw hat. And to me, every team is like the napkins…they do, they do wear sweet little outfits…they do…they’re adorable…lots of accessories…they look nice…they accessorize. They all match. Put a little makeup on under their eyes. They all match. It’s nice. They all walk together. And their hats are quite kinky. This is why, interestingly enough, we never developed a sports show, clearly. That’s clearly why they chose to put us on after the super bowl. We would be ridden off the network on a very large rail. Sorry. Right now all over America there are men throwing their car radios out the window. We are sorry. We love football! It’s great. It’s actually awesome. Digging a hole…digging a hole…digging a hole…all I really wanted to say was that we thought Kyle Chandler was cute. That’s really all I wanted to say. I’m just pouring some dirt on top of us now. Okay, that worked out pretty good. That was good. So, that was episode 4.04, ‘The Heart of the Matter.’ A really great episode. Awesome. Next episode, for the first time ever, Grey’s we are doing a Halloween episode. Yes, you know, you have seen Thanksgiving episodes, and Christmas episodes…but you have never actually seen a Halloween episode. We decided if we were going to go for a holiday this year, we thought we would go for Halloween. There’s something kind of great about it, and we felt like gore, and blood went quite well with our hospital, so we are doing some stuff in this episode that is going to be a little bit interesting. It is very interesting, and Halloween does bring out the spooky weird stuff, probably in hospitals and also probably superstitions. I think you will get to see some…you will definitely get to see something I don’t think you have ever quite seen before. Yeah. I think there is something relatively hardcore in there. Meredith does something that I don’t think I have ever seen anybody do. That’s absolutely true, and there is also …I think there are two things…there is a chainsaw involved in the episode. There is a chainsaw involved in the episode and that doesn’t involve Meredith. Those are two different things. Meredith doesn’t wield the chainsaw. We just want to make sure. We know she’s dark and twisty but not chainsaw dark and twisty. Which would qualify as a little bit….That would be a whole different show. A whole different show. It would maybe be on bad football shows. Okay. So anyway…and no one is going to be wearing cute outfits with hats. Although I think scrubs and scrub caps do go, and Lexie…a little bit. You know what, I take that back. Cute outfits and hats. Keep watching. Yeah, there’s a whole reason to tune in, right there. This is Shonda, this is Betsy, Grey’s Anatomy. VOICE OVERS & QUOTES 4.04 The Heart of the Matter Meredith: [voice over] In life only one thing is certain apart from death and taxes, no matter how hard you try, no matter how good your intentions....you are going to make mistakes. You are going to hurt people, you’re going to get hurt and if you ever want to recover ..... there’s really only one thing you can say. Meredith: [voice over] Forgive and forget, that’s what they say. It’s good advice but it’s not very practical. When someone hurts us we want to hurt them back. When someone wrongs us, we want to be right. Without forgiveness old scores are never settled. Old wounds never heal. And the most we can hope for .... is that one day we’ll be lucky enough to forget |

RECAPS & REVIEWS BUDDYTV Grey's Anatomy: Episode 4.4 "The Heart of the Matter" Recap - Thursday, October 18, 2007 Previously on Grey's Anatomy, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) had break up sex, Norman Shales (Edward Herrmann) was the world's oldest intern, Thatcher Grey chose Lexie (Chyler Leigh) over Meredith, Richard's (James Pickens) niece knew she was dying, Alex (Justin Chambers) kissed Izzie (Katherine Heigl) but she pulled away, and George (T.R. Knight) told Callie (Sara Ramirez) that he slept with Izzie. Tonight's Grey's Anatomy picks up right after George's confession to Callie. She simply says that she forgives him. He made a mistake, but they took vows, so she forgives him........cont’d http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anat...swer=345#poll86 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ZAP2IT 'Grey's Anatomy:' She's an intern - October 18, 2007 Full disclosure: Despite being a die-hard during the first three seasons of Grey's Anatomy, I have not been a fan this year. But I'm coming around. It feels as though the bad dream of focusing so fully on George and Izzie may be coming to an end -- or at least leveling off to a tolerable place. So it may be premature, but with hope (and all due respect to President Clinton's first inaugural address), I posit that there is nothing wrong with Shonda Rhimes that cannot be cured by what is right with Shonda Rhimes.........................cont’d http://blog.zap2it.com/ithappenedlastnight...-anatomy-s.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV SQUAD Grey's Anatomy: The Heart of the Matter - Posted Oct 18th 2007 (S04E04) You killed him. With your penmanship. --Izzie Stevens Jonathan is traveling to a wedding tonight, so I am filling in for him. I have to admit something: I stopped watching Grey's Anatomy in earnest toward the beginning of Season Three. Oh, I know what's happening. It's sort of hard to live in this country and not know what's going on on Grey's Anatomy. I wasn't surprised to discover that nothing much has changed. Oh, except that the writing is worse. Honestly, I don't know how the actors got through a read-through of this script without rioting in the writers' room, let alone saying the lines on national television in front of witnesses. The show started well enough, with a very calm Callie telling a shocked (and, dare I say, disappointed?)........cont’d http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/10/18/greys-an...-of-the-matter/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- EW.COM EW - TV Watch - ''Grey's Anatomy'': Twelve O'Clock High - Oct 19, 2007 After Callie learns about George's adultery, she and Izzie square off in the cafeteria at lunchtime; plus, McDreamy bonds with Lexie, then tells Meredith what he really wants - Thank goodness for the grown-ups on this show — and for their showing up in force for the first time this season. Which is to say: Mad props to Callie O'Malley and Alex Karev, with always-honorable (and I don't mean that in a runner-up sorta way) mention to Dr. Bailey and Chief Webber. (If Addison were still around, I suspect she'd be on that short list, too, but, alas, she up and moved to California and started acting like a 14-year-old.)............cont’d http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20153204,00.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MSNBC Find out who popped the question on Grey’s - Oct 18th 2007 An indecent proposal? In case you missed it, McDreamy’s long-winded speech at the end of the night sounded a little like a marriage proposal, didn’t it? After previously having invited Meredith on a weekend trip — 48 hours of uninterrupted sex — he took back the offer. He told her he didn’t want 48 uninterrupted hours. “I want to marry you,” he said. He told her he wants to have kids with her, settle down and grow old with her. “I want a lifetime,” he said, as she braced herself and fought what he called “the urge to run the opposite direction.” .....cont’d http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14484204/?pg=2...ysAnatomy_CHART ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV GUIDE Forgive and Forget - Episode Recap: "The Heart of the Matter" October 18, 2007 "I forgive you." Did I hear that right? Callie, calmly telling George that he made a mistake and that because of their vows, she was willing to forgive him for sleeping with Izzie? Thank god she changed her mind by the end of the episode, because I'm not sure I could have forgiven Callie for letting Gizzie off the hook so easily! Not after everything we've been through in this whole messy love triangle! Though something tells me we won't have anything resembling closure here for quite some time.........cont’d http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...orget/800025071 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- FANGASM Grey's Anatomy: Let the Truth Sting and The Heart of the Matter - Posted October 25, 2007 by Cheryl Wow, you go away on vacation and you miss two of the best episodes of Grey's Anatomy so far! This is going to be a short post-op for both episodes. Let the Truth Sting: Boy, does it ever. When are these doctors going to learn no one keeps secrets at Seattle Grace? Christina discovers Meredith hasn't broken up with Derek, and uses it to her advantage to get surgeries from Meredith. I just love their friendship! Meredith finally figures it out, though, and outs Christina for using her failure to marry Burke to take advantage of Meredith's sympathetic side. Fun! Hey! Really Old Guy comes out of his coma! And, then he dies. Bummer. His interaction with Izzie was terrific, and apparently he could hear all the secrets of last year's interns. Alex outs George in the elevator as he blurts out to the interns George is a repeater. With that, George no longer has the respect of his doe-eyed colleagues. As for the other happenings, as much as Meredith wants to avoid her sister Lexie, she can't. There's quite a bit of tension between the sisters Grey, which results in Lexie storming down to the Clinic for refuge, and telling a fib to Dr. Bailey to stay down there. I felt a ping of pain for Lexie, as she really didn't get any information from stupid Thatcher on how her mother actually died. I just hope she's not looking for a mother figure in Meredith! Although Meredith is dark and twisty she is also sympathetic, and walks Lexie through her mother's medical file, stating clearly that in each case, there was a one percent, maybe two percent chance of any of the complications that happened to Susan actually happening. So, while George is down, he might as well go all the way down. At the end of the episode, he finally catches up with Callie at their hotel room, and she looks him straight in the eye, "Just tell me." And, he does: "I slept with Izzie." Hell of an ending that kept me wanting more. Thank goodness I was able to watch the full episodes back to back on ABC.com! The Heart of the Matter: Finally, the writers gave some meaty dialog to Callie and to Alex. Callie is obviously saddened by George's admission, but she says she forgives him, because they made a commitment. This prompts George to act like a five year old and run through the hospital in search of Izzie to give her warning he's told Callie. Izzie's being Izzie, and is so self-absorbed in being a teacher, she doesn't realize Callie is behind her. Callie tells Izzie she knows everything and wants to talk to her, at noon, in the cafeteria. This prompts Izzie to act like a five year old and think that Callie is going to kick her ass at the hospital. When the time comes, Izzie's fists-up response to Callie approaching her further humiliates Callie. Callie, meanwhile starts to fall apart, to the point where she provokes and almost begs a patient's boyfriend to punch her so she can feel something. Bailey is genuinely concerned about Callie's stability, and warns her if she continues to say she's okay and acts to the contrary she could lose her career. Callie and Izzie finally talk, with Izzie trying to apologize. And Callie, the true class-act she is, let's Izzie have it, without fists, and tells her she betrayed a fellow woman, and that she stole something from her, like a petty little thief. Bam. Izzie confesses to Alex she slept with George, and Alex walks away from her disgusted. Because it's O'Malley. Because it's a married man. Because it wasn't him post-Denny. I really hope they keep Edward Hermann (Norman, the World's Oldest Intern) on the show for more episodes, because he's all sorts of awesome. I really liked the interaction with Meredith. Speaking of Meredith, Derek asks her to spend 48 hours of uninterrupted time with him in Wine Country. She gets upset because he's making friends with "the other Grey." He tells her he can tell the other Grey what he can't tell her. Meredith retorts and tells him he can tell her anything. And then, Derek grows a set, and tells her point-blank what's in his heart: he wants to marry her; he wants children with her; he wants to grow old with her; he wants to live to be 102 and die in her arms. Wow. Meredith, take the man back. Take. The. Man. Back! I was annoyed with Derek in season three, and I am so happy where his character is right now. It just gives me the warm and fuzzies! But, he also warned her - and gave her a realistic, non-mopey warning - he can wait for her, but he's not sure what will happen if a girl comes along who will be willing to give him what he wants. At the end, Izzie's crying on her bed, and Alex is kind enough to hand her a box of tissues. Callie doesn't forgive George, and walks away to leave him in the rain. What do you think? Should Callie and George stay together? Do you think Izzie and George will continue their relationship? Will Meredith, Derek and Lexie all co-exist peacefully? Will Norman continue to use seriously in his dialogue? http://www.fangasm.com/01television/greys-...atter000480.php ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LA TIMES 'Grey's Anatomy': What's going on with these women? - October 19, 2007 I don't know what condition of post-feminism we are currently living under (post-post-post perhaps), but after last night's "Grey's Anatomy," I think everyone should scramble through their boxed-up college paperbacks and find their copies of "The Golden Notebook" because we need to get back to basics, people. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/ |

SYNOPSIS The Heart of the Matter | Air Date: 10/18/2007 After his admission that he slept with Izzie George is stunned when Callie says, "I forgive you." He tries to find Izzie to tell her the bad news, but Callie finds her first and, in front of a set of interns, orders Izzie to meet her in the cafeteria at noon. Word quickly spreads through the hospital that Callie is going to fight Izzie in the cafeteria. Alex asks Izzie what she did to piss Callie off and, after making him swear not to tell another soul, confesses she slept with George. Alex walks away in disgust. Read More A woman comes in for a foot injury after slipping on her treadmill. She and her fiance -- for whom she was losing weight so that he would move in with her -- just want her foot fixed, but Callie tells her it won't be any good if she continues to starve herself and exercise obsessively. Miranda suspects something is wrong with Callie when she quietly agrees to just fix the foot and doesn't deliver a lecture to the patient or her boyfriend. Derek asks Meredith to go away for "48 hours of sex," and she agrees, providing it's just sex. She starts to get second thoughts when she sees that he's on very friendly terms with Lexie. Cristina -- who is still calling Lexie by her intern number, "Three," despite Lexie's objections -- doesn't much like it either. She orders Lexie not to talk to patients and to stay by the wall. During a procedure where Derek is placing weights on an injured teenager to stabilize him, Lexie touches the boy's hand to comfort him. Cristina orders her out of the room since the slightest movement might permanently paralyze him. Derek then snaps at Cristina for being "selfish" and says she won't be welcome in his surgeries anymore unless she starts actually teaching her interns. On her next surgery, she helps talk Lexie through a difficult procedure. She still calls her "Three," but now Lexie doesn't object. Meredith asks Alex to swap shifts with her so she can go away with Derek. He agrees, but only if she takes his middle-aged intern, Norman, for the day. Meredith hands Norman the job of informing a woman she's dying. She advises him not to get too emotional. She comes in and finds the woman sobbing hysterically and Norma admits he did it wrong. But he's made an even bigger mistake: He informed the wrong patient! And now they have to find her because she's left the hospital. Norman brings her back, without having told her the truth yet, and she's ecstatic, saying she's going to make the most of her life: she quit her job and broke up with her boyfriend and plans to move to Iceland. When they tell her she's not dying, she is crushed. She leaves happy however, because the hospital is going to pay her enough to buy a "four-bedroom house in Iceland," Mark grimly tells Meredith. Richard and Adele's teenage niece Camille, who has been fighting cancer for years, is brought in, unable to breathe. A cancerous mass has blocked her throat. She just wants to die, but her mother and Adele beg Richard to talk her into more treatment. She tells Richard she's just too tired and that she had hoped the blockage in her throat would have killed her already. Richard sadly tells Adele that he couldn't talk Camille into continuing treatment. Adele feels that Richard has failed her, once again. Izzie prepares for her big showdown with Callie and when Callie enters, the cafeteria is packed. Izzie puts up her fists and Callie blinks; she didn't want to fight, just to talk. She turns her back on Izzie and walks away. The woman with the ankle injury starts spitting up blood and they rush her into surgery: She has a bleeding ulcer from constantly popping ibuprofen. Because she was underweight and malnourished, her heart can't take it and she dies on the operating table. Callie finds the boyfriend outside and tells him that he's to blame for her death and that he couldn't have really loved her. Miranda and George stop her from actually hitting the man. George realizes she's talking about their marriage and Miranda tells Callie that the "nothing" going on with her has almost cost her her career. Izzie and Callie and tries to apologize. Callie tells her it's bad enough that she humiliated her by sleeping with George, now she's humiliated her at work too. When Izzie tries to say that she "feels terrible," Callie replies, "Don't you dare come to me for forgiveness, you traitorous bitch." George tells Callie that she can't forgive him for what he did and she finally admits that she hasn't forgiven him at all. She goes home to the hotel alone. Alex is unsympathetic to Izzie when she falls apart after her day. She was the one who fell for a married man, after all. She says it's no different than his crush on Ava. He reminds her that she rebuffed him after Denny died, saying she "wasn't ready," and then she told him about George like he was "one of her chick friends." But when he hears her crying in her room that night he brings her a box of Kleenex, although he tells her to "keep it down." Meredith is ready to go away with Derek, but he's changed his mind. He doesn't just want 48 hours with her, he says, he wants a lifetime. He wants to marry her and grow old with her and he knows that scares her. He says he'll wait until she's ready but he doesn't know what he'll do if he meets someone in the meantime who can give him what he wants right now. |
