PRE-SEASON PREMIERE PRESS RELEASE Entering their first year as residents after passing their intern exams, Meredith Grey, Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens and Alex Karev now have interns of their own to mentor. Among the new crop of interns are George (forced to repeat his internship after failing his exams) and Lexie Grey, Meredith’s half-sister. Overseeing the residents is the newly-appointed Chief Resident, Callie Torres. With the no-nonsense Miranda Bailey earning the interns’ respect over the past year, the new residents are finding it difficult to report to someone else, particularly George’s wife. Bailey, who is displeased with Dr. Webber after he chose Callie for Chief Resident over her, must find her bearings within the hospital pecking order. While she finds her footing, Webber resumes his position as Chief of Surgery, doing his best to maintain a work/life balance for the sake of his recently-reunited marriage. Two weeks after being left by her fiancé on her wedding day, Cristina returns to the hospital from her honeymoon accompanied by Meredith, who badly needed an escape of her own after her relationship with Derek Shepherd hit an emotional impasse. Cristina relies on what she always has – her ability as a surgeon – to cope with the break-up. Mark Sloan wishes to renew his friendship with his old friend, Derek, who could sorely use a friend after Addison’s move, Burke’s resignation and his rocky relationship with Meredith. The doctors of Seattle Grace Hospital deal with life-or-death consequences on a daily basis – it’s in one another that they find comfort, friendship and, at times, more than friendship. Together they’re discovering that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white. Real life only comes in shades of grey. MEDICAL STORIES Clara, who is with her two young children, discuss the status of her husband Henry with one of the doctors. Henry has suffered extremely traumatic injuries during a car accident. The doctor says that the only thing holding Henry's head to his body is skin and muscle and that he will surely died very soon, even with surgery. A boy brings a near-dead racoon to Seattle Grace in the hope they will be able to save it. His father wants his son to grow up & stop living in a make believe world. Some of the doctors need to deal with new stressed out interns. One of the interns will help deliver a baby. Source: SpoilerFix Entering their first year as residents, Meredith Grey, Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens and Alex Karev now have interns of their own to mentor. Among the new interns are George, forced to repeat his internship after failing his exams, and Lexie Grey, Meredith's half-sister. Another two new interns will be introduced in this season premiere. And they'll have their hands full when a three-car accident sends multiple casualties pouring into Seattle Grace. Some of the doctors need to deal with new stressed out interns. A young boy brings his bleeding deer to the hospital in the hope a doctor will save her. SIDES SUMMARY Nancy Intern 1 - female Chris - Michael's father Michael Intern 2 - male Henry Carla - Henry's wife Bobby - Henry's son Tina - Henry's daughter Joey All the credit goes to mattsmom at TWOP! This was her exact post: I have read the sides and they are about a three car accident when someone swerved to avoid a raccoon. Nancy has lost her leg and is pregnant. She recently moved to Seattle because she was pregnant, unmarried, and her family disapproved . She talks with a doctor about being brave and that its possible to be happy on your own. They can save the leg but before Nancy is put under for surgery she panics and talks about how should have gotten married and can't do this alone and doesn't want to be alone any more. The doctor tells her to look at her and look into her eyes. Nancy says she is scared and the doctor says I know. IMO, this could be Addison with a send off story. Cristina with a reaction story to being alone or Meredith. Henry is a victim who will not recover. His wife and two children are there. He cannot speak. He is communicating by blinking his eyes. The little boy is upset and the little girl want him to be a pirate at her birthday party. Intern #1 sides are working on Nancy when she enters the ER. She is having difficulties trying to keep pressure on the leg. I think she is working with Mark in the ER because he says "If you want to rub up against me, you gotta buy me a drink first". Joey is also injured in the accident. He says that the dead guy hit an animal then the lady hit him and I hit the lady. He is acting very strange. Hungry, opening and closing drawers, taking things. Finally we have Michael & his father Chris who bring in Nancy's leg but also a raccoon that was injured in the accident. One of the doctors go outside to work on the raccoon. The father does not want the doctor to work on the raccoon but wants his son to "grow up and face things". He argues with the doctor that he is not helping his son by saving the raccoon. Here Mattsmom just posted the exact quote of what the doctor says to "Nancy": "Nancy? I think its really brave what you did (in reference to leaving and having the baby) What you are doing. I think that its possible -- I think its possible to be happy on your own." |

SPOILERS Airdate: September 27, 2007 * new 09/26 - Izzie's interns think she's a bottom-of-the-barrel loser (Denny's death strikes again) - especially after she brings a deer into the hospital to be saved. Callie has a terrible time getting respect from others on the staff who don't understand why she was made chief resident, especially over Bailey. As I mentioned in last week's Vine show, Meredith and Derek are officially broken up as of the first episode-but if you've seen those elevator promos, you know there is still hope! I will go ahead and tell you who says "I love you, too." It is George. And it is not to Callie. Source: Kristin on E!Online * 09/11 - Lexie (Meredith's sister) is one of Cristina's [interns]. Source: Kristin on E!Online * 09/10 - "Grey's Anatomy" stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Patrick Dempsey as Derek Shepherd, Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang, Katherine Heigl as Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, T.R. Knight as George O'Malley, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens, Jr. as Richard Webber, Sara Ramirez as Callie Torres, Eric Dane as Mark Sloan and Chyler Leigh as Lexie Grey. Guest Cast: Mark Pellegrino as Chris, Sandra Thigpen as Clara, Stephanie Childers as Nancy, Steven M. Source: ABC * 08/12 - Actor Richard Keith will be playing intern Mitch Greenberg. He is the person wearing a trauma gown right next to Izzie in the photo posted on Spoilerbuzz (see spoiler below). Source: SpoilerFix.com * 08/11 - We have some inside scoop on the new Grey's Anatomy interns who will be descending on Seattle Grace this season. Of course, we all know about Lexie played by Chyler Leigh (who will be a regular cast member this season). But what about the other newbie interns? Claire will be played by Tymberlee Chanel who is a relatively unknown newcomber to television save for two guest roles. The first was on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation this year and Numb3rs. Graciella is played by Gloria Garayua. She has had some guest starring roles in Cold Case, the ill-received 3 Lbs., Strong Medicine, Joey, Six Feet Under and others. Leo has had plenty of guest starring television roles as well, such as Dexter, That '70s Show, The X-Files and Sabrina, The Teenage Witch. But also a relative newcomber to the scene. As you may have noticed, these aren't the interns who were in the last episode of the last season! Those interns were played by Ajay Vidure, Candice Afia, Artie O'Daly and Joseph Williamson. No word if they will be showing up this season as well or not. We have also been told that one of the interns is going to try and pull a Cristina/Meredith and hook up with one of the McDoctors. Source: Spoiler Buzz [Note: Click on the source to see pictures of the interns and Izzie. The intern/McDoctor hook up will more than likely be with Mark since he is said to be getting more action this season.] * 08/01 - I'm hearing Rhimes may stick a fork in Gizzie in the season premiere when the ex-platonic pals are forced to examine their relationship while tending to an, um, unusual patient: a deer. That's right, an injured deer will be admitted to Seattle Grace. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide [Note: It seems that they changed the racoon storyline to a deer one.] * 07/11 - Two new interns will be introduced in the season premiere (three if you include Lexie). And they'll have their hands full when a three-car accident sends multiple casualties pouring into Seattle Grace. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide * 07/06 - Expect changes to occur in the season premiere as the title is "A Change Is Gonna Come." The premiere will see new interns enter the medical world. One, who is supposed to be named Thomson, helps deliver a baby on the interns' first day on the job. Grey's Anatomy episodes would not be the same without a wacky case. In this episode, the wacky case is that of a young boy bringing his bleeding female raccoon pet to the hospital in the hope a doctor will save her. SONG TITLE REFERENCE & LYRICS & MUSIC "A Change Is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke In a sense, "A Change Is Gonna Come" is an answer to Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind," as well as a song of hope for the Civil Rights Movement. The hypothetical questions posed by Dylan, most obvious being "how many years can some people exist, before they're allowed to be free?", were answered by an implied "Fewer than you think." Though Cooke recognized "it's been a long/a long time coming," the song states that change is inevitable. A similar sentiment was echoed by Dylan in "The Times They Are a-Changin'," written and released after "A Change Is Gonna Come." ------------------------------ Title reference: The episode's title refers to a song by Sam Cooke. The title may also refer to a song by Tina Turner ------------------------------ I was born by the river in a little tent Oh and just like the river I've been running ever since It's been a long, a long time coming But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will It's been too hard living but I'm afraid to die Cause I don't know what's up there beyond the sky It's been a long, a long time coming But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will I go to the movie and I go downtown somebody keep telling me don't hang around It's been a long, a long time coming [A Change Is Gonna Come lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com] But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will Then I go to my brother And I say brother help me please But he winds up knocking me Back down on my knees Ohhhhhhhhh..... There been times that I thought I couldn't last for long But now I think I'm able to carry on It's been a long, a long time coming But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will --------------------------------------------- The lyric playing underneath the choice scene where Meredith finally chooses Derek.....'I built a home for you, for me" To build a home There is a house built out of stone Wooden floors, walls and window sills Tables and chairs worn by all of the dust This is a place where I don't feel alone This is a place where I feel at home And I built a home For you For me Until it disappeared From me From you And now, it's time To live And time To die I'm in the garden where we planted the seeds There is a tree as old as me Branches were sewn by the colour of green Ground had arose in past its knees By the cracks of the skin I climbed to the top I climbed the tree to see the world When the gusts came around to blow m.e down Held on as tightly as you held on me Held on as tightly as you held on me And I built a home For you For me Until it disappeared From me From you And now, it's time To live And time To die --------------------------------------------- A Change is Gonna Come - Music - September 28, 2007 TITLE: Oversleeping PERFORMER: I'm From Barcelona The song plays in the beginning of the episode at Seattle Grace Hospital. PODCAST 4.01 A Change is Gonna Come --- 09.28.07 - Chyler Leigh (Lexie Grey) talks about joining the show as one of it's newest interns and Executive Producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers break-down the first episode of the season and preview the arrival of Mama Burke in next week's episode, "Love/Addiction", which airs October 4th. Hi!..Hi!...It’s Shonda ....It’s Betsy.......It’s Grey’s Anatomy......We’re back.....We’re back, baby.....We’re back. Ok, how great is it to see these guys with their own interns? I’m sorry, that first thing with Cristina and calling by numbers and the whole run desperately, desperately trying to imitate Bailey, which is such a great call back. I love, I love seeing them try to be what Bailey was to them in their first year and failing miserably. But really trying. I mean. I think that was just in terms of pure enjoyment factor one of the high points for me in a really, really long time. Which I thought was really, really terrific. And that’s literally the exact same speech from the pilot. It is. I think we might have changed like three words though. It’s like tiny, tiny though. And Lexie Grey plays the role of Meredith Grey actually from the pilot. Yes! It’s a deep metaphor people. It’s a deep, deep, deep metaphor. It’s so deep that probably anyone could have figured it out. Because that’s exactly how deep we are. George is an intern. George is an intern all over again, which I love. I think it’s terrific George being an intern. And Lexie sort of agreeing to cover up the fact that he’s because she met him last year when he was there before so she knows. She’s the only person who knows. I think there’s something really lovely about that entire storyline where she basically tells him you know suck it up. Life’s difficult and you get a real sense of who she is. And he says you’re kind of awesome. Which is great. Then there’s the great moment in the end for the two of them where you know he comes into the locker room and everybody’s wondering “you delivered a baby, oh my God, you delivered a baby.” Which is the exact opposite of his first year when at the end of the day he was 007. That’s right and he was trying to figure out how to get out of living with his mother. Exactly, it’s wonderful. I think that’s terrific that she sort of ended up being the George enabler in this particular situation. Little bit like her sis in also the place that they go, the place that Lexie goes to calm down is standing to stare at the babies. Which is a total call back to the fact that was what Meredith and George used to do. But I also just love the moment when you pull back and Meredith is standing there on the outside looking in at the place she used to be that’s now been replaced. She’s been a little bit displaced by Lexie. Absolutely. And by necessity she has a different relationship with George now. Which is clear because George is having a very, very difficult time juggling his new role and trying to balance out with his friends. It’s a really, really difficult position. I mean I think a lot of his rage, it’s interesting, I think that a lot of his rage is I’m an intern again and that’s not fair. But a lot of it also is I’m trapped. Like he says I’m exactly where I was last year. He’s trapped. He feels like he’s trapped in this marriage. He feels like he’s trapped being an intern again. He feels like he’s trapped. He couldn’t admit he’s feelings for Izzie if he wanted to because he’s trapped in this role of being the responsible one and just trudging along and being George. And what I love in a very strange way that moment in the locker room, that moment with Lexie freed him to show up at the door for Izzie and tell her he’s in love with her too. I think that’s absolutely right because before that it’s the whole idea of I screwed up my exam, I screwed up my exam for a whole lot of reasons. The pressure of actually this strange extra marital thing that’s happened. It’s also just the whole idea that he was busy blaming everybody else for what happened to him. Everybody. As opposed to actually taking a look at the fact that he’s the one who has to take the responsibility for it. And he’s got to figure out what he wants to do. And when he actually does his job well and when he realizes he does his job well, despite his level and despite the theoretical level of expertise I think that gives him the courage and the strength back to actually do what he needs to actually stand up for himself in a different kind of way which is terrific. I actually love that whole end run because the whole episode seems to be going in one direction and then everything turns around in the last minute. Yeah it’s building to the idea that nothing’s going to be the way you think it’s going to be; nothing is going to stay in its regular, regular way. Hence the name… A Change Is Gonna Come…Sam Cooke. Sam Cook, exactly and what I love to a large degree the hugest changes come sort of from left field sometimes. What I love, what I love is that we start off the episode being sort of saying like clearly things have changed. We start off you know with our interns giving the Bailey speech to their interns. Yet they’re trying to be the same but it’s changed. The mentees have become the mentors. And they’re not very good at it. Yeah. They’re trying to be the same as Bailey. Which means they’re actually fighting against the change. Exactly. And what Izzie discovers with the Bambi is that she’s her own kind of resident. You know that’s what I really love about that storyline. She’s going to be an Izzie kind of resident. Yeah she’s going to be Izzie. She can’t be Bailey. She’s going to do it the way Izzie’s going to do it. And then each of them in their own way find out they can’t be Bailey. They’re absolutely individually who they are wether they like it or not, and they have to adapt to that. So.....What I also love is having Bailey struggle with the concept that she’s not chief resident. She’s angry and in a way she has a right to be and in a way she doesn’t. You know nobody gives you anything. But she feels like she’s earned something that she then didn’t receive. Ans she’s furious with it. And the chief has a wonderful moment where he talks t o her and he says one day you’ll thank me for this and I love where there’s this moment and Bailey says not today. You know that like she’s going to hold it against him for a little bit a while. I feel like there’s going to be an interesting struggle there for Bailey as she lets Callie be in charge, and also just between her, Callie and the chief and how that’s gonna work. Well also in this weird way because Bailey, no matter what the chief says, Bailey wants the job because Bailey is the best at the job because Bailey is a phenomenal administrator and leader. Here’s the truth…Bailey is the job. Bailey is that job. And basically not to give her that job is to ask her not to be Bailey and I think that’s what’s going to be interesting to watch her struggle with in the next couple of episodes. She’s desperately trying to hold her tongue. She’s desperately trying to sort of get along. And she’s desperately trying to not be Bailey and I think that’s gonna be great to not to see her… I totally, totally agree. I also feel like what’s interesting is what Richard’s choice is what comes…Richard’s big flaw to me as a human being is that what he does very often is he takes his personal experience and decides other people need to learn from it. So the weird thing is like… What he does most often is he does that with the women. He does it with the women all the time. So, you know, it’s like I don’t want you to end up like I ended up so I think this is a better way for you. I’ve chosen to save your marriage for you. I’ve chosen for you. With Meredith the exactly same thing which is I want to make sure you don’t make the same series of mistakes that I make. He did it with Bailey when she was pregnant. Exactly. He does it a lot. He does it a lot and that’s the thing I think to watch with Richard. He does it to Addison. He does it to everybody which is I don’t want you to end up like I am. Well how about I get that opportunity myself. So it’s a little bit of himself trying to adjust himself especially with the women and trying to understand that they’re different people. Part of it is that they’re a different generation. Part of it is that fact that he feels like he’s got to be everybody’s father and make sure that everybody’s ok. And part of it is just his flaw. You know what I mean he’s a guy and he’s that kind of guy. And I kinda love that about him. Well it sure makes you feel safe and like the hospital is well taken care of and like he’s the guy you really, really want around. For guy who doesn’t have kids these are his kids. It explains a little bit to me why he’s the guy who chose to stay with Adele and not to go with Ellis. There’s a lot of that, that’s great. Definitely! Definitely! Mer/Der. Mer/Der. Very proud of the Mer/Der in this episode, very satisfying. The great moment. I love the moment where Meredith is standing there with Derek and he’s trying to talk to her and they haven’t spoken in 17 days and he’s trying to talk to her and Lexie pops up. He sort of looks at her and goes you’re the girl from the bar. And Lexie sort of realizes yeah I basically tried to pick you up and tried to buy you a drink at some point. Meredith is just looking and she has this amazing look on her face. She’s like the girl from the bar? I’m the girl from the bar. Like the frustration of this sister who is every where all the time you know saying stuff is so great for her. I don’t think by any stretch of the imagination that Meredith is threatened by Lexie in the sense that she thinks Lexie is going to take her boyfriend, because I think if your watching you see a very great moment where Derek says she’s your sister? You watch him go and done. Exactly like end scene. Because you know he’s not that guy. I mean he’s McDreamy people. He not that guy. But I love that idea that for Meredith there is this sense of her sister is a little… there’s a little bit of Single White Female going on there. She’s like every where and she’s me only a little bit better cause she’s happy still. And perky. Yeah and perky. And interested. Yeah and I love the moment where Meredith and Derek break up, because I personally was like I’m not ready for them to break up, I haven’t been ready for them to break up for a long time so to have them break up and then decide they they’re gonna have a little bit of a break up kiss and little bit of break up sex, and obviously not get to a place where they can truly break up at all was great and exciting for us because we cant imagine having them sort of be apart, apart and we weren’t interested in having them be apart, apart. I felt like there was something really fabulous about him saying he could never leave her, and her realizing that no matter how much she says its over its never gonna be over. Now when I think also it’s just interesting to explore what does break up mean. Yeah. There’s a lot of different types of break ups. What does beak up mean to them. I just love the…She’s saying the more things change the more they stay the same. She and Derek are kissing and they have a pull and it’s magnetic and it’s not going any where. And no matter how she much would like it to be simpler than that. It can’t happen for her, which in the long run its going to be good for her don’t you think? I would suspect that’s probably the case. He’s not an ax murderer. He’s McDreamy. He’s also a good dresser. His hygiene seems to be excellent. Good eyes. Good eyes. I think the totality of this is good catch and Meredith obviously knows that but Meredith is in a strange state in her own brain. She has been through a lot. She desperately wishes she was in a different place in her own brain. I also feel that on top of everything else Meredith spent a better part of last season being fully invested in Cristina getting married. And really in the end was just sort of determined to get Cristina to the altar. As somebody who has no family she has no example of how normal people behave. And the only example she has are her friends. And her friend especially Cristina, who frankly isn’t an example of how normal people behave. Still she is what she has. I think she believed that if somebody as emotionally stunted as Cristina could make it to the altar and could get married it was possible for her. When it stopped being possible for Cristina it stopped being possible for her. And what compromises do you live with in your life at the end of the day Burke and Cristina , their compromise was too huge. The sacrifice was too huge which Burke recognized which is why Burke walked away. It’s a beautiful thing to do. Honestly I feel like he loved her so much that he walked away which always breaks my heart every time. I really do feel like what he says to her is if I loved you, not the woman I’m trying to make you be, not the woman I want you to become. If I loved you I would walk away and he does love her enough to walk away which I think is quite lovely. It’s just devastatingly sad because what he’s looking for and what she’s looking for are so different. And what she’s left with is so little. Dude, that proposal came out of we’re not speaking to each other. I’m going to make you break the silence. It was part of that. So it was more of a challenge than anything else. Mark and Derek. Did we talk about them and their little drift towards friendship? No, but I think it’s kind of notable that there they are. Derek when you think about it he doesn’t have Addison who he used to…I mean they were friends, they had been together, they had a push me pull you. By definition on all fronts Derek has had his closure about Addison. She’s not even there anymore. But the idea that he had this closure. They’ve come to a place where he and Addsion were sort of friendly. They were in a good space. And the three of them when they were in competition with one another was oddly sort of friendly respectful competition. Now that she’s gone I love what Mark says, I didn’t come to Seattle to be chief, I didn’t come to Seattle to get Addison back, I came to Seattle to get you back. Which is so true. The reality of it is that all Mark is desperately looking for is the family that he used to have and that family for him has always been Derek and in the Center Derek was always his brother in every sense of the word. And only two guys frankly, not to disparage womanhood because women just think about it differently, only guys could have gone through what they went through, having your best friend sleep with your wife and still possibly be able to become friends again. I think that’s absolutely true. I don’t know why. Way, way, way more time would have to transpire for chicks for that to actually make sense. You know in different countries maybe. But I do think there’s something really wonderful about the fact that they might be able to get past this. together. They’re kind of one of my favorite team. I sort of feel like Derek is at this point, because there was this whole point initially where Mark first showed up, there were issues with Addison. He’s grown up from this. He really used to hold grudges. The biggest growth with Derek, because we always talk about the interns growth. I think Derek had to come to terms with being alone. He’s had to come to terms with that he’s not always in the perfect relationship. He can’t hide behind that. Derek start off this show in a place of a person horribly, horribly betrayed. Was clinging to Meredith as the one thing he could trust as opposed to trusting anything else. And now I think he’s in a place where he’s no longer feeling betrayed or feeling worried about being betrayed. His level of trust in other people is very different. His level of trust in Meredith might be a little bit more tenuous. Absolutely so I think he has to be more resourceful this season because he doesn’t have anybody to talk to. As proven by the fact that he was trying to hit up Bailey for a drink, which is a picture I would like. You know he and Bailey used to have a drink from time to time in the beginning. They’ve had their moments. But not the Bailey that’s pissed off about not being chief resident. She sees through it in ten seconds straight, which is it’s not me you want. You just want a friend to have a drink with. Which is awesome because she’s right. She’s not going to do it. Cristina I know we talked about her a little bit. I’m just going to say that you know clearly the news that Burke’s not coming back having it delivered by Derek was hard for her, and I don’t… I feel like we’ve been talking about having closure for her. I don’t know if she’s ever gonna get closure but she’s gonna get some semblance of closure. She’s gonna get some answers. Next week we’re gonna get a visit from Miss Diahann Carroll. She’s gonna pay us a visit. And I think that’s going to be interesting to watch. I also think that next week we’re gonna see how one, how Cristina especially, deals with the fact that you’ve been left at the altar. There are a lot of wedding gifts around. A lot of wedding gifts. There’s a lot of ways of handling that, just keeping in mind that Cristina always the most important thing to Cristina is surgery. Surgery, surgery, surgery. Exactly. Surgery is the loving arms you can always fall into when something else didn’t go so well. For all these characters actually. We hearken back to the Thanksgiving episode from a couple of years ago. What else can we say about next week? The theme for next week is addiction. Which is something certainly I think all of these characters who are absolutely… Can absolutely relate to in many a way. Absolutely. And I think the thing that really is gonna happen is what happens after George says I love you too. What happens after that and where exactly do Meredith and Derek go from having a little bit of break up sex in the on call room to the next episode. What happens now? What happens there? I don’t know. Just watch next week and tell us what you think. Please would be good. See we always say that. Gosh! Anyway. This is Shonda. This is Betsy. This is Grey’s Anatomy. VOICE OVERS & QUOTES A Change Is Gonna Come [4.1] Meredith: [voiceover] In the practice of medicine, change is inevitable. New surgical techniques are created, procedures are updated, levels of expertise increase. Innovation is everything, nothing remains the same for long. We either adapt to change, or we get left behind. Meredith: Change; we don’t like it, we fear it, but we can't stop it from coming. We either adapt to change or we get left behind And it hurts to grow, anybody who tells you it doesn’t is lying. But heres the truth: the more things change, the more they stay the same. And sometimes, oh sometimes change is good. Oh sometimes change is everything. |

As for Grey’s Anatomy: Shonda Rhimes promised things would lighten up, and while there was still plenty of emotion and heightened melodrama, and the usual quota of aggravating eye-rolling moments, the tone (which matters most to me) was back to the scintillating laugh-one-minute, cry-the-next form of entertainment we’ve come to expect. Watching Cristina snarl at the new interns was a joy. Same goes for Bailey refusing to let the Chief off the hook for not naming her chief resident, instead making Callie’s first day on the job a living hell of insecurity and humiliation. As for poor, bitter, frustrated George, who's repeating his year as an intern: Watching Lexie Grey remind him how awesome he is was pure Grey’s magic. .......cont’d after the jump! http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...ht-Tv/800023262 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- E Online Korbi’s Quickie - Ghosh on Fri, Sep 28, 2007 Fri., 9/28: An Office Romance Rocks Our World, Betty Makes Us Bawl, Grey's Gets Off to Good Start Grey's Anatomy: As someone who has been kind of hard on Grey's in the past, I have to admit I quite enjoyed last night's episode. I actually shed a tear for Cristina and Burke's failed relationship—which is weird, 'cause I had no idea I cared. Oh, and the McDreamy-McSteamy scene? Priceless. Look forward to those two hanging out this season. The show's in need of some male bonding. Also, I think the addition of Chyler Leigh to the cast of regulars is going to be a really good thing. It just provides another facet of Meredith's bruised psyche we can start to explore. Plus, Chyler's cute, and I was so pissed when Fox canceled Reunion. http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/korb...0c-a9fe3515352c ----------------------------------------------------------------------- McDreamy Defends Meredith on Greys - Sep 27, 2007 A friend in need: When he wasn’t busy trying to find someone to have a drink with him, or re-attaching a guy’s skull to his spine, McDreamy was vehemently defending Meredith in a speech that might have been directed as much toward the audience as it was to McSteamy, who flippantly said Meredith is “damaged.” “She panics,” McDreamy said. “She wants this, (but) she doesn’t know how to have it, and you know what? That’s not her fault. So don’t you ever talk to me about Meredith Grey again, because you do not know what you’re talking about.” Take that, Meredith-haters! ........cont’d after the jump! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14484204/?pg=2...ysAnatomy_CHART ----------------------------------------------------------------------- McDreamy Defends Meredith on Greys - Sep 27, 2007 A friend in need: When he wasn’t busy trying to find someone to have a drink with him, or re-attaching a guy’s skull to his spine, McDreamy was vehemently defending Meredith in a speech that might have been directed as much toward the audience as it was to McSteamy, who flippantly said Meredith is “damaged.” “She panics,” McDreamy said. “She wants this, (but) she doesn’t know how to have it, and you know what? Just take one look at the characters of "Grey’s Anatomy" assembled in the season premiere, all fresh and familiar in their lab coats with the irritated hopelessness of last season melted away. After months of fallout from Isaiah Washington’s dismissal and Kate Walsh’s spinoff, after Patrick Dempsey’s twins and Katherine Heigl's Emmy, it was nice to get back to business. This year will be different, we tell ourselves with the hopeful conviction of fifth-graders. Even the voice-over didn’t seem so bothersome, maybe because it seemed to be speaking to us about the show as much as anything else. Change, we were told, is difficult but necessary, though sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same. Perhaps not the most earthshaking news around, but for a season premiere with not one but three important characters MIA (Washington’s Dr. Burke, Walsh’s Dr. Addison and Kate Burton as Meredith’s mother), it was reassuring nonetheless.......cont’d http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracke...-anatomy-g.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Grey's Anatomy: Episode 4.1 "A Change is Gonna Come" Recap - September 27, 2007 http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anat...-cha-11638.aspx Grey's Anatomy: A Change is Gonna Come (season premiere) - Posted Sep 27th 2007 http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/09/27/greys-an...eason-premiere/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV Guide Show Blog – Adjust Your Expectations - Episode Recap: "A Change is Gonna Come" (Sept. 27, 2007) http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...tions/800023218 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday ratings: Grey's Anatomy rules, Office gets best numbers ever - Posted Sep 28th 2007 The first big Thursday ratings battle was won by Grey's Anatomy, but CBS won overall for the night with their lineup of Survivor: China and the season premieres of CSI and Without A Trace. ABC was a close second, even though Ugly Betty was down 20% from it's premiere last season. After Betty, the network had the season premiere of Grey's and the series premiere of Big Shots. Grey's was down 20% from last season too, but still won the time slot. Big Shots won the 10pm race, though it lost viewers halfway through to Without A Trace and and ER. That season premiere of ER, along with the season premieres of My Name Is Earl and The Office (both one-hour episodes) got NBC into third place. The Office numbers were the show's best in the 18-49 demographic and the best numbers for NBC at 9pm in quite some time. FOX was fourth with new eps of Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader and Don't Forget The Lyrics. The CW was fourth with the season premiere of Smallville a repeat of Reaper. http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/09/28/thursday...s-best-numbers/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION September 28, 2007 Quick Take for Thursday, September 27, 2007 (Based on Live + Same Day Fast Affiliate Ratings) ABC Dominates the Opening Thursday in Adults 18-34 and Key Women With its Best Viewer and Young Adult Numbers Since February, “Ugly Betty” Opens its Second Season a Strong No. 1 in its Time Slot Among Adults 18-34 In its Fourth Season Premiere, ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” Opens as Thursday’s No. 1 TV Show in Adults 18-49 and as TV’s Top-Rated Premiere So Far This Season Thursday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.) ABC dominated the opening Thursday of the season among Adults 18-34 (5.8/16) and across all key women demographics: W18-34 (8.7/22), W18-49 (8.2/20) and W25-54 (8.7/19). The Net finished in a near-tie for first place with CBS in Adults 18-49, pacing within one-tenth of a rating point and tied in audience share (5.7/15 vs. 5.8/15). “Grey’s Anatomy” (9:00-10:00 p.m.) Thursday’s No. 1 TV program in Adults 18-49 and the highest-rated show to premiere this season,ABC's season opener of “Grey's Anatomy” beat second-place CBS' “C.S.I.” by 9% in the key sales demo (8.7/21 vs. 8.0/19). “Grey's” advantage over “C.S.I.” in Adults 18-34 stood at substantial 43% (9.0/23 vs. 6.3/16). “Grey’s” drew an average audience of 20.5 million viewers, qualifying as the second-most-watched show for the evening, after “C.S.I.” • “Grey's Anatomy” garnered it highest ratings since March in Adults 18-34 (9.0/23) and Women 18-34 (13.4/30) – since 3/22/07. A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has more than doubled from 8.54% during premiere week 2006 up to 19.43% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen. SYNOPSIS A Change is Gonna Come | Air Date: 09/27/2007 After failing his exam, George reluctantly faces his first day reliving his internship among a sea of fresh faces. Meanwhile, Cristina, Meredith, Izzie and Alex are in charge of their own interns and George is assigned to Meredith. Neither Cristina or Meredith have heard from her exes since the wedding, and they don't seem overly concerned, which astounds Izzie, who is counting every day since she last spoke to George. George asks to talk to Meredith but before he can get her alone, the rest of the new interns show up in the hall and are shooed off by the residents. George gives up and joins the interns. Cristina nicknames him "Bambi," saying he needs to learn how to deal with his new situation. George complains to Callie about being an intern again and she tries to reassure him by saying he's going to be the "rock star" intern. When that fails to cheer him up, she suggests maybe they'll see him as the "daddy" intern. He's rattled rather than pleased by the suggestion that she might be pregnant. Miranda is still bitter over being passed over for Chief Resident. Without Burke or Meredith to hang out with, Derek asks Miranda out for a drink after work and she turns him down, as does the Chief. A multi-car pileup is en route to the hospital, proving Callie's first responsibility as Chief Resident. The residents she paged are MIA and Miranda drily notes that when she paged them, they always came running. The Chief tells Callie to "get it together." The residents instruct their interns and Izzie overhears hers saying they know her history and lamenting that they got stuck with "the dud." The first ambulance from the multi-car accident arrives with a DOA and Cristina pulls back the sheet to show the interns their first "dead guy." The second ambulance contains a pregnant woman whose arm has been severed and the third one holds a heavyset man with a knee injury who surprises everyone by asking for something to eat. Lexie introduces herself to Meredith, who is stunned to learn that she has another half sister. Derek approaches Meredith, just as Lexie comes up to apologize for botching her introduction. Derek recognizes Lexie as "the girl from the bar," and Meredith gives him a disgusted look and says, "I'm the girl from the bar" and walks off. Lexie frets that Meredith has another reason to hate her now. Cristina asks Derek if Burke is off today and he reluctantly informs her that Burke turned in his resignation two weeks ago. Cristina is pronouncing time of death for the dead man when he starts to breathe! He's been internally decapitated -- the only thing holding his head on is his skin. Derek assures him he'll try to reconnect his spine. Cristina tells the wife that if he moves even a fraction of an inch, he could die and that this may be the last time she sees her husband alive. During surgery, the patient starts to move and Cristina orders him stay still, saying he can't abandon his family like that. Miraculously, he pulls through. The pregnant woman says she really needs her arm since her baby has no father. Mark orders Meredith to find the severed arm. A young boy and his father come running into the E.R. carrying the arm and the boy begs Izzie to help him with another patient who's in the truck. Izzie -- who's had nothing for her interns to do yet -- rallies her group and follows the boy outside, where she is speechless to discover that her new patient is the deer that caused the accident. When the deer opens its eyes and looks at her, she agrees to try to save it, to the dismay of her interns, who think she's crazy. The father insists there's no point in saving an animal that they'd usually be eating. Izzie is horrified at the father's attitude and insists that she's going to save "Bambi." George and Izzie meet in the stairwell and she accuses him of avoiding her since she told him that she loves him. She says she's busy trying to save Bambi and he misunderstands, thinking she's using the same nickname Cristina has for him. Izzie insists that she's Bambi -- alone and scared -- and George tells her he's needed in surgery. Mark informs Nancy, the pregnant woman, that he can reattach her arm. During the procedure, she goes into labor and George delivers the baby. Alex is upset that Callie won't let him switch to a surgical case. Callie is furious that she wasn't notified when the man with the knee injury ends up in emergency surgery --- turns out he's got a mania for eating random objects and now he has a perforated stomach. Miranda insists that Alex did the right thing by rushing him to surgery and there wasn't time to inform her. Richard tells Miranda that the reason he didn't name her as Chief Resident was because he thinks she's better as a surgeon than juggling paperwork. Mark wants to take Derek up on the offer for a drink, saying he thinks he could use a friend. When Mark slams Meredith, Derek defends her, saying he doesn't blame her for running after seeing that Cristina was left at the altar. Mark insists that he didn't come to Seattle for Addison, he came to patch things up with Derek. "Maybe we should have a drink," Derek smiles, "but not today." Izzie manages to bring the deer back to life and then informs her interns that they have to be ready for anything, even something like this. She announces that they're stuck with her and she's sorry she's stuck with them since they're all obviously "duds." When George isn't ecstatic over delivering the baby, Lexie lectures him that he should be, and tells him he's not the only one whose life hasn't gone according to plan. The other interns are impressed by George delivering a baby on his "first day" and he slowly warms to their praise. Alex confides to Cristina that he misses Rebecca and she says she misses Burke. Callie is depressed over how the residents don't respect or listen to her and invites Miranda to tell her how terrible she is at her job. "Hope tomorrow is better," is all Miranda says. Meredith tells Derek it's over but she agrees to a breakup kiss, and then to breakup sex. George shows up at Izzie's house and tells her, "I love you too." |
