Denny [voice over] Beginning Voice Over: I believe in heaven. I also believe in hell. I've never seen either but I believe they exist. They have to exist. Because without a heaven, without a hell, we're all just headed for limbo.

Denny: [voice over] Heaven. Hell. Limbo. No one really knows where we are going. But the one thing we can say for sure, with absolute certainty, is that there are moments that take us to another place. Moments of heaven on earth. And maybe for now that's all we need to know.

SCOOP-AGE & OTHER TRICKSTERS

A big spoiler of ep.513 from BuddyTV recap - Jan 22, 2009
The episode ends with PDR's execution. He walks in, and the families of his victims are in the viewing gallery. Meredith is also there, sitting in the back row. He stares at her as he is lethally injected. Afterwards, she walks out into the parking lot of the prison where Derek is waiting for her. She breaks down in tears and says that she wanted to show him compassion and that's why she went, but it was horrible. He drives her to Cristina's and begs her to talk to Meredith because she won't stop crying. Yay, they are finally making up. They don't hug or anything because they don't do hugs, but I think their fight is over.

SONG TITLE REFERENCE & LYRICS ~ EPISODE PLAYLIST

Stairway to Heaven

Stairway to Heaven - LED ZEPPELIN

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying the stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying the stairway to heaven.

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who stand looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.

And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder.

Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know,
The piper's calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.

And she's buying the stairway to heaven.

EP RECAP

01/22/2009 - "Stairway To Heaven"
Season 5, Episode 513
Jackson, the little boy in desperate need of organs, will die unless new a new liver and small intestine is found for him in the next 24 hours. Dr. Robbins suggests they try an experimental liver dialysis to extend Jackson's life. Miranda breaks down, saying she can't handle it if he dies. Robbins advises her to get some sleep. Richard orders George to check all brain-dead patients to see if they're a match and to ask, but only ask, whether the families will consider organ donation.

William succeeds in knocking himself unconscious after Meredith tells him that injuring his head could lead to brain death. He needs surgery to live, but he's still conscious and refuses to let Meredith page Derek. Miranda advises Meredith to page Derek. "I suggest you do everything you can to keep your patient alive because we're doctors, Grey. We're not executioners."

Derek is in a great mood after getting his mother's approval of Meredith. He shows Cristina the ring his mother gave him to give to Meredith, wanting to know if she thinks Meredith will like it. He urges Cristina to make up with Meredith, saying she'll need someone to freak out to after he proposes to her, but Cristina says he should find someone else.

"I know you think this is wrong. Just let me do this," Meredith begs when Cristina insists on checking on William herself. When William murmurs that he wants to live, Cristina puts in the page. Derek is furious when he finds out that Meredith's kept William's declining condition from him. "He's been manipulating you since he got here. It was a bad decision. It was the wrong decision," Derek insists. He wants Meredith to scrub in to see the results of her actions.

Derek has only begun the surgery when an emotional Miranda enters the OR and insists he stop the operation. "This man is trying to kill himself. God forgive me, I need you to let him," she begs. Derek refuses at first, but then puts the scalpel down. "It's your call: Am I an executioner or am I surgeon?" he wants to know. Miranda finally realizes what's she asking of him and says, "Pick up the scalpel."

"What a waste," Meredith says as Cristina closes. "We saved a life, that's never a waste," Derek replies.

The night after he came to Cristina's apartment drunk, Owen wakes up naked in her bed, where her roommate, Callie, accidentally sees him.

Mark suffers a severe penis injury after having sex with Lexie in the on-call room. She pages Callie, who summons Owen. The rumor quickly spreads through the hospital while everyone tries to guess who the woman was who "broke Sloan's penis." Sadie correctly guesses that it was Lexie, so she lies and tells the other residents that she was the one. She watches the door as Lexie joins a recuperating Mark. "It's not 'Little Grey,' it's Lexie," she insists. "And I'm not going anywhere."

Denny still hasn't left, even though Izzie made it clear she wants him gone. She finally realizes that what Denny's been telling her this whole time -- "I'm here for you" -- means that he's come to bring her to heaven with him. "I'm sick," Izzie realizes, and yells at him for not telling her right away. "I can go now, because you know," Denny says. "But it's your choice. You get to choose." She tells Denny to go, asking what he's waiting for. "This," he says, and kisses her goodbye.

Owen asks Cristina to give him another chance. "You've got some big problems," she says. "Yeah, I do," he admits, and she says, "Yes."

Miranda goes back to Jackson's bedside and tells the mother it's time to let her son go. Richard has succeeded in talking a brain-dead patient's grieving wife into donating her husband's organs -- just as Jackson flatlines. As Miranda and Richard wait to see if Jackson will make it, Miranda admits she crossed a line to try to save Jackson's life and Richard says, "So did I."

When he comes to, William tells Meredith he was playing her. "I wanted to destroy your career. Your boyfriend was right," but she refuses to believe him, saying she would have been scared to die, too. He asks if she'll come to his execution. "It would be good to have a friendly face in the crowd, when they kill me." When William is led into the the execution chamber, Meredith is among the witnesses.

As William flatlines, Jackson wakes up, and asks his mother for some water.

Meredith finds Derek waiting for her outside the prison. "I know you don't understand me. I don't understand me. It was horrible," she sobs, and he hugs her. "It's okay," he says, and drives her to Cristina's. "She's in the car and she won't stop crying," he says, begging Cristina to go comfort her friend, and she does.

Grey Matter

Mark Wilding on "Stairway to Heaven"...

I am going to tell you something about myself that you probably already suspect. Which is…I don’t know any serial killers. None. Not a one. I grew up in a small university town in Connecticut and our crimes ran more towards shoplifting, speeding and disturbing the peace. No William Dunn types hanging out at the local Friendly’s ice cream parlor or exchanging warm hello’s at the Coventry Farmers’ Market. My brushes with any kind of criminal element pretty much extended to what my younger brother, Dave, was up to that day. Be it shooting out a neighbor’s window with a BB gun or throwing a snowball at the high school principal – the principal for God’s sake! – Dave was the closest thing to an actual criminal that I knew. (Of course, to this day my brother denies shooting out the window with a BB gun. But then, that’s what criminals do, right? They deny.)

Anyway, you get the idea. Bucolic small town, God-fearing folks, blah blah blah. Except that now I’m going to tell you something that you don’t know about me. Which is that even though I don’t know any serial killers, I do know a killer. That’s right. Someone who murdered another human being. The murderer was someone I grew up with. He was in my grade. We went to middle school and high school together. We even went to college together. I even had the occasional beer with him in college. And now he’s sitting in a Texas prison for murdering his wife. To be more precise, for poisoning his wife with arsenic. Which, from all the accounts I read, was a pretty horrible way to go. And guess what? He really was one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet.

My point being that even though I know a charming, well-mannered murderer, when Shonda floated the idea that we do our own version of a charming serial killer – someone that we couldn’t help but like -- I wasn’t that on board with the idea. After all, a killer’s a killer, right? No amount of charm or politeness can mitigate THAT. But then we got Eric Stoltz and I started to see the light. Not all the light, but some of it. Eric’s a great actor and very charming. But myself and others in the writers room still weren’t convinced. We argued back and forth about what kind of killer we should have. Because if Meredith is going to have compassion for him, shouldn’t he at least be a guy who killed for a reason? To defend himself? Or to put some poor soul out of their misery? Does he have to be someone who just killed people for no good reason? And Shonda said he DID have to be someone who killed people for no good reason. But, we countered, wouldn’t that reflect poorly on Meredith? Being best buds with an utterly irredeemable serial killer?? No it wouldn’t, insisted Shonda. Compassion is compassion. And as Jenna Bans pointed out in her wonderful episode last week – it’s a lot easier to have compassion for a sick person than for a serial killer. Well, as you saw at the end of the episode last night, Shonda was right. As horrible a human being as he was, when it came down to it, when William Dunn walked into that death chamber and looked at Meredith (and looked and looked) I really didn’t want him to be killed. And I’m someone who’s not completely against the death penalty. (I go back and forth. On the one hand feeling that if you deprive someone of their life, shouldn’t you be deprived of yours? While on the other hand, not being terribly happy about the fact that sometimes they execute the wrong guy).

The first and most obvious relationship that needs commenting on is Cristina and Meredith’s. Yes folks, the rift is finally over. And it ended the way most rifts end. Not with profound apologies on either side but with the sense that this argument has just gone on too long, that life’s too short to prolong the misery. How many great friends do you get in your life? Like real soul mate friends? And do you want to lose that soul mate friend over something that, a month later, now seems trivial? Meredith and Cristina are a couple of strong personalities. I don’t know that we could ever have gotten them to offer up mutual apologies – with both of them shouldering a measure of the blame -- and actually believe it as an audience. And Derek pretty much spoke for the viewers when he said isn’t it about time to wrap up the fighting -- that Meredith and Cristina need each other. If only to freak out to each other when something really big happens. In this case, a possible proposal. And even though it looked like Derek might be so put off by Meredith’s charitable behavior towards William that he would never propose, we got the nice, lump in the throat, surprise at the end of the episode when Derek shows up outside the prison. A nice surprise because a couple of seasons ago, he might have been so disgusted with her behavior that he might not have shown up. I think that gestures shows that their relationship is really maturing. That’s what happens in relationships. If you want to keep it going, you forgive things that bother the crap out of you. If you DON’T want to keep it going, you dump the person. Or divorce them. You should not, under any circumstances, poison them with arsenic. That is bad.

There are two other relationships that I want to comment on. First, Mark and Lexie. A couple that I grow more and more fond of every week. I loved that the humor of him breaking his penis – it really does happen, people, you can look it up – becomes something very moving at the end, when Lexie ignores his request to get out of his room and, instead, crawls into bed with him. Mark has never been in such pain and she’s going to be there for him, whether he wants it or not. On paper their relationship looks like it can’t possibly work. He’s an attending and a man whore. She’s an intern and all sweetness and light. But time and again we’ve shown that Lexie’s also a lot stronger than she looks. If she wants something, she’ll eventually figure out a way to get it. In this case, that something is Mark. At this point we’re not sure where this relationship is going but I promise you that this is one of those story lines that we, the writers, really want to get right. We’re enjoying it too much not to.

And finally, we get to Izzie and Denny. Now here’s a story line a lot of folks have had a strong opinion about. Starting with Denny coming back (WHAT?), Izzie finally breaking the ice and talking to him(REALLY? REALLY??), Izzie having long conversations with him (NO WAY!), Izzie having imaginary, albeit spectacular, sex with him (OKAY, THIS CHICK IS CRAZY), and Izzie pulling a sort of modern day “Jules and Jim”, balancing the two men in her life (REALLY, HONESTLY, SHE NEEDS TO BE COMMITTED). Anyway, I’d say that since we started the story line, opinions have run two to one against the whole thing. Or at least they were before this episode. Maybe now some of you doubters will be swayed. I’m not saying EVERYONE will be on board, just maybe a few of you. We didn’t bring back Jeffrey Dean Morgan just because he’s a super looking guy who can act the hell out of stuff, we brought him back for a reason. Izzie is sick. We don’t know how bad it is or whether Denny is some sort of hallucination or weird manifestation of her sickness, but now at least the thing’s on her radar. Now she can do something about it. So stick with us. It’s going to be a fun ride. After all, if I was able to come around on the whole charming, serial killer thing, you guys might just come around on this.

The Emerald City Bar

Creepy Times

Okay, where to begin… With the serial killer that’s apparently checked in (and, more recently, out of) the hospital? With the fighting B.F.F.’s? The engagement ring that Nurse Debbie SWEARS she saw Derek carrying down the hall? Izzie Stevens talking to herself? Mark Sloan breaking himself? Ah, so much crazy, so little time…

The whole Jeffrey-Dahmer-is-at-Seattle-Grace thing really freaked me out when I heard about it the other day. And, if it scared the crap out of me, then I can only IMAGINE what it did to the doctors over there. The whole idea was just creepy. I mean, he’s a DEATH ROW PRISONER, people. The dude obviously didn’t just run a few traffic signals and refuse to pay the fines.. He must’ve done something really, really bad…

I heard that Meredith was actually this whack job’s primary doctor, too. Knowing Mer, she probably formed some super dark-and-twisty friendship with the guy and ended up kinda liking him. It wouldn’t surprise me, but I’m sure it’d piss off Derek…

I know that Derek’s dad was murdered a while back (he told me this a few months ago, in between one-too-many glasses of scotch). I’m not really sure if they ever caught the guy that did it (I didn’t want to ask too many questions). But, ever since, it’s clear that Derek doesn’t have a lot of patience nor tolerance for murderers and criminals…

I just hope Mer-Der are able to separate the personal from the professional when treating this dude at SGH, so that Derek can get on with his… PROPOSAL!!!!

That’s right, folks. Derek plans to propose to Meredith. I actually JUST heard the news (thank you, Twitter and Nurse Debbie). Apparently, Deb saw Derek walking around with a RING earlier today. Yes, a shiny, sparkly, diamond ring that only a world-class neurosurgeon like Derek Shepherd could afford. Okay, I actually don’t know if it’s expensive, or what it looks like, or where Derek got it, but Nurse Debbie assured me that IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.

Now, not to be a Debbie Downer, but… I am CONCERNED. Yes, I know we should all be reveling in this joyous, monumental news, but I can’t help but feel just a tad bit nervous about the whole thing. First of all, Meredith and Cristina are STILL not talking, as far as I know. Does anybody else see the problem there? Who the hell is Mer gonna freak out to when Derek decides to drop down on one knee and do the deed?

Mer better not think that she’ll just come on over this way and order 17 tequila shots (that is her current record). No way. I won’t allow it. I’ve seen this scene quite a few times already and I don’t care to see it again… Mer and Cristina need to patch things up, pronto. They need each other. Now, more than ever…

Speaking of people needing people – what the hell is going on with Izzie Stevens? Girlfriend needs SOMEBODY to give her a quick slap across the face and make her stop talking to herself. Alex, George, Nurse Debbie, Intern Steve – they’ve all confessed to me about Iz having full-on conversations with herself all around the hospital. Creepy! What is going on? Is it stress? Exhaustion? One too many trips to the dermatology wing? I know you just turned a year older, Iz, but you’re still quite young to be suffering from dementia. I tell ya, SOMETHING IS UP…

I will, however, tell you what is NOT up… SLOAN! Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Hey, these transitions just write themselves, folks…

Yes, Sloan is most definitely DOWN for the count. Evidently, crazy-self-appendectomy-intern Sadie rode him and broke him. Now, for the record, I wasn’t surprised Mark broke his penis (that, my friends, was just a matter of time). I was, however, quite intrigued that it was SADIE who did the breaking. After all this time, I thought it was LEXIE who was in the relationship with McSteamy.

But, Intern Steve – who is in the bar right now, eating all the bar nuts as usual – assures me it was SADIE who made Mark suffer through the entire day. Hey, I didn’t even know Sadie was into dudes. I thought it was all about Sadie and Callie. Man, I guess I was wrong. Is it a full moon tonight? Because I feel totally off my game…

Something tells me I haven’t heard the whole story here. I’ll just wait until Lexie shows up a little later to find out the truth. She’s not a very good liar…

Until next time…- Joe the Bartender

Preview of 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Private Practice' Crossover Episode - January 23, 2009
It is the crossover episode of "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice" on February 5. From the preview given by ABC for the next episode of "Grey's", it is known that Derek receives a call from Addison in some kind of an emergency situation involving her brother, Archer.

Based on the synopsis given on "Private" February 5 episode, Archer will have a severe seizure that Addison and Naomi try to find a cure using every resource possible. And when they don't, Addison seeks the help of the neurosurgeon she knows well, Derek. Also in the episode, now that Derek has the engagement ring, he searches for the perfect way to propose to Meredith.

Archer, played by Grant Show, moves to L.A. to work at Pacific Wellcare but he causes problems between Addison and Naomi.

"Private Practice" is the spin-off of "Grey's Anatomy", which first aired in 2007 and focused on the solo journey of Kate Walsh's character. Addison once made a return for a specialized surgery to "Grey's" several months after "Private" premiered. The crossover may be a multi-episode event in February.......sneak

Surgeon or Executioner? - Tuesday, January 27, 2009
There are few things that can frazzle cool Dr. Bailey. In last Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy, we saw one of them. There was Jackson, her pet patient for several years who needed a liver, and the oh-so-convenient case of a death row patient several doors down who had perfectly OK organs and didn't have more than five days to live. It presented a moral dilemma to the surgeons involved in both cases. On the kid's case, there was the Chief (James Pickens Jr.) and Bailey (Chandra Wilson); on the death row patient (guest star Eric Stoltz), there's Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Cristina (Sandra Oh), and Owen (Kevin McKidd).

Yes, there was a point when some people buckled under the pressure and “crossed the line” from either end. Meredith agreed to let someone die, the Chief pushed a grieving loved one to get his hands on some organs, and Bailey - yes Bailey - actually barged into Derek's OR while PDR was in the operating table, admonished McDreamy to stop what he's doing, and to let PDR die. If we recall, Derek wouldn't hear any of it when it was his girlfriend who was giving him this talk. 'Grey's Anatomy' Aftergasm: If a Tree Falls in the Forest... - January 23, 2009
If a tree falls in the forest, and Izzie isn't there to see it, does Denny really exist?
The mystery of Denny Duquette's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) continued appearance on Grey's Anatomy, long after his LVAD incident and subsequent death, appears to be over.
Well, not exactly. He did tell Izzie (Katherine Heigl) at the end of last night's Grey's Anatomy that now that she knows she's seriously ill, he can finally go gentle into that good night, but if we are to take EW's Michael Ausiello's word on the matter, and we always should, he won't be heading toward the light anytime soon
“[Denny] will be around at least through March, since that's when Izzie's aneurysm-esque medical condition finally gets diagnosed,” Ausiello says.
March??? Seriously? Seriously! Look, I love Jeffrey Dean Morgan as much as the next girl, and I love that Katherine Heigl is getting some good emotional scenes in which to exercise her acting chops, but enough is enough. We've had months of this Dead!Denny! business with zero movement in the storyline. When he appeared to her in the flesh at the end of episode 5.7 “Rise Up,” we figured that since this is not a paranormal type of show, the most logical explanation of Dead!Denny!'s reappearance was either that Izzie is going crazy, or she has some kind of brain malady. Which is….exactly the same conclusion we came to after last night's “Stairway to Heaven.”
If there is an afterlife, then a well-paced story arc that doesn't drag on to eternity would be my heaven.

Best In Show:

Best Quote: “Yes, no, yes. He's badly injured, in fa bad way that is bad for anyone…who's a man, but for Dr. Sloan, in particular. He may have broken a bone. He broke a bone. I-I-I I broke his bone,” Lexie, describing to Callie the bodily harm she inflicted upon Mark's person.

Best Scene: For me, the best scene was the most difficult one to watch: PDR's execution. Meredith is not always a likeable sympathetic character, but she showed here how much compassion she is capable of and why she is the central figure in Grey's Anatomy. She knew that watching PDR die would be extremely difficult, but she went anyway. The experience turned out to be something she couldn't handle alone – even Derek couldn't help her – and it ultimately brought Meredith and Cristina back to each other.

Best User Comment: “I disagree w/ the note that PDR was actually playing Meredith- I think he genuinely wanted to help, but when he realized that he was really going to die, that scared him and he decided he wasn't ready. This is based on what Meredith says right afterwards about death/dying being frightening. If she believed that he was truly trying to ruin her career, she would have left the room right then and wouldn't have come to the execution.” --ibeforej

Grey's Anatomy: Episode 5.13 "Stairway to Heaven" Recap (Page 1/4) - January 22, 2009
On tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy, Dead!Denny! takes over voiceover duties for Meredith. He says something about believing in both heaven and hell, despite not having seen them. Wait, so is it really Izzie who is voiceovering? Or does Dead!Denny! actually exist in his own right?

There's scary music and scenes of PDR Guy bashing his head in. He starts seizing, but Meredith ignores her page. Sadie (Melissa George) and a murse respond to the call, but Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) tells Sadie to go find something else to do. Meredith wants to stall a bit to make sure that PDR Guy is good and brain dead so that his organs can be put into Bailey's little boy patient, Jackson. Let me just say that if you thought that Eric Stoltz was creepy in his first two episodes, you ain't seen nothin' yet. He's seizing and bleeding out from the back of his skull and his eyes are rolling all around inside his head. Yeesh.

Meanwhile, at home, Izzie (Katherine Heigl) is trying to sleep, but she can't make Dead!Denny! go away. She wants to know why he's still here, even after she broke up with him. He says that can't go because he's here for her. You know, with all this dark lighting and ghosts not going away, it's looking like pretty a Supernatural-y Grey's Anatomy. Izzie should watch her back.

Broken. Penis. Let me say that again - broken penis. What else can I really say? Okay, how about...Izzie finally gets a clue about why Denny has come back and they say their (final?) goodbye, the Chief, Bailey, and Meredith all cross a line, and Yang gives things another chance.
I may as well get this out of the way first, or it will haunt me for the rest of the recap. Sloane and Lexie sneak into the On-Call room for a booty call. Really, they should just change the sign on the door to “Booty Call Room” since everyone is always hooking up in there. I’d really hate to see the CSI crew go in with a black light, know what I mean? The nameless intern crew is standing outside the room listening to the fun and getting pissed off because they can never get in there to catch some sleep since the sheets are always crusty when Sloane lets out a not-happy shout and the interns scatter. Inside the room, Lexie gets up off the floor and notes that “it’s all bent”. Sloane sends her to find Callie, who tries to blow Lexie off until she gets across that she broke Sloanehttp://www.cinemablend.com/television/TV-Recap-Grey-s-Anatomy-Stairway-To-Heaven-14761.html

'Grey's Anatomy' recap: The Dying Game - Jan 22, 2009
I was in denial last week — of Sloan and Lexie, of New Blond Doctor, of Denny's continued ghostly presence. I think I moved right through anger last week, too (mostly thanks to Denny). Since bargaining is moot in this economy — I'm doing whatever I'm told around here, especially since my job is watching TV. And, on that note, we've got plenty of depression to go around, so let's move straight to acceptance, shall we?
Denny's here, fine. Got it. In fact, he wouldn't leave Izzie alone as we started this third of a Grey's three-parter featuring the dead one, as well as the kid who needed organs and the serial killer. At least at this point, Izzie was as sick of him as we were: ''You are like the guy who graduated from high school and still hangs out on the football field,'' she snapped at him. And okay, Lexie and Mark are a thing. Fine. I'd already started warming up to them last week, so I'm dealing with them now. And it was even sorta cute that Lexie ended up, well, breaking Mark. (Okay, breaking his penis.) Cute as in funny ha-ha, as in, we didn't have much other relief from the relentless death and darkness this week, so we had to take what we could get. ....................cont’d

Grey's Anatomy': Heaven and hell - Jan 23 2009
Thanks to last night’s episode of “Grey’s Anatomy,” we finally know why Denny has refused to hit the road and why, for one week at least, he felt the need to hijack Meredith’s voiceover duties: Izzie’s sick -- and possibly dying!
What’s that, you say? It’s not exactly a shock? And Izzie had every right to be furious that it took her dead ex half a season to help her realize what he really meant by all those “I’m here for yous?” And that maybe, possibly, this twist would’ve been a little easier to get behind had it occurred months ago — say, before we were forced to endure the pair having hot, sweaty sex?

Is Dead Denny finally gone from ‘Grey's’? - Jan 22, 2009
Finally, the much-criticized 'ghostmance' may be winding down - After endless episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" showing Izzie getting busy with her dead boyfriend, the doctor finally realized that there must be something medically wrong with her and she's not really seeing ghosts.
Ghost of a chance: Dead Denny got angrier and angrier at Izzie as she tried to convince him to go away and leave her alone. Gradually, it emerged that Denny had unfinished business with her, and that “I’m here for you” didn’t mean “I am here and I love you,” so much as it meant “I have come to fetch you and deliver you to the Graveyard Of TV Characters Played By Aspiring Movie Actors.” Izzie isn’t dead yet, but she finally realized what many of us have known for weeks, which is that only a severe medical problem would cause a previously sane woman to suddenly start believing she is having sex with the dead. (You didn’t think he was a real ghost, did you?)

Pilot News: Grey's Creator Takes Shot at Washington - Jan 27, 2009
Shonda Rhimes has mastered depicting the drama of hospital hallways and doctors' after-hours action. Now, she's setting her sights on the juicy lives of Washington, D.C., journalists.
ABC has greenlit Inside the Box, a new pilot from the Grey's Anatomy creator, a rep for the network confirmed for TVGuide.com. The potential series centers on an ambitious female news producer and her colleagues whose extracurriculars, the net promises, will be more exciting than the stories they cover.
While Box will be Rhimes' first foray out of the TV-medicine motif in recent years, it isn't her first attempt at creating a show set in the world of journalism, The Hollywood Reporter says. She first developed the concept in 2006, but put it aside to focus on Grey's and its spin-off, Private Practice.
Rhimes' pilot is among three that ABC has greenlit. It joins fellow female-centric drama I, Claudia, about a female prosecuting attorney who doesn't know that she'll one day be considered for president of the U.S. Writer John Scott Shepherd (The Days) developed the idea, and will executive-produce the pilot with Matt Gross.
The Alphabet's third pilot is an adaptation of Argentine series Brothers & Detectives from Dexter honcho Daniel Cerone. The untitled project features a low-level detective who learns that he has an exceptional, 11-year-old brother who can help his solve crimes.
How soon we might see the pilots make it to air is unclear. So far, ABC is staying mum on when Rhimes' next gaggle of good-looking, young professionals might hit the airwaves — and who might be filling their investigative shoes.

Grey's Anatomy Episode Recap: "Stairway to Heaven" - Jan 23, 2009
This week on Grey's Anatomy, Izzie finally realizes why Denny has come for her; Owen asks Cristina for a second chance at a first date and the death row patient at Seattle Grace finally checks out.

Rarely does Grey's break tradition by featuring a narrator other than Meredith, so when Denny's voice kicked things off this week I knew we were in for a bumpy ride! Finally, after weeks of hearing Denny tell Izzie, "I'm here for you," she realizes that his poetic presence in her life has much darker roots. Izzie is sick, but we still don't know what plagues her, and now that the cat is finally out of the bag, it looks like Denny may be gone for good.

Meanwhile, William (Eric Stoltz) needed some serious medical attention after beating his head against the bed rail, but at his request, Meredith covered for him so that he might die now at Seattle Grace instead of at his execution in a few days. So, imagine her shock (or mine, for that matter) when Cristina walked in to William's room and the first words out of his mouth were, "Help me! I don't want to die."

Grey's Anatomy's Derek has got his mother's ring. Now what? - Gayle
MATT: Dude needs to unload it and quick, I'd say! Instead (sigh), he will hold onto it long enough for virtually every Seattle Gracer — Meredith excluded, of course — to learn of the bauble's being and in turn offer their two cents on when and how he should pop the Q. Will Der stick to his original plan? And if so, does it involve a meticulously crafted arrangement of candles?

Grey's Anatomy: Stairway to Heaven - Posted Jan 23rd 2009
(S05E13) "We're doctors, Grey. We're not executioners." - Bailey
Life wasn't easy for some of the Seattle Grace staff this week on Grey's Anatomy as they had to decide if they were doctors or executioners. For some, the choice was clear (Shepard is a doctor) while for others (Meredith and Bailey) they wondered if they should be executioners at least this one time. No matter what side they were on, one thing is sure: the Seattle Grace doctors offered us one hell (or heaven?) of an episode this week!
Can Eric Stoltz get an award for his incredible work as serial killer William Dunn? Not only was he totally believable in every scene but he was able to make me pity and hate him all at the same time. The guy deserves an award. His storyline, along with Jackson's quest for organs, was so poignant and brought up so many ethical dilemmas that I'm surprised it wasn't kept for February Sweeps. ............ cont’d

'Grey's Anatomy': Denny's not a ghost - Jan 22, 2009
This week's Grey's Anatomy is part 3 of an arc -- the Return of the Jedi, if you will -- of a couple of very compelling storylines and the continuation (start?) of the one that's been driving many of us nuts for weeks now. There's also some interesting character development and a genuinely stupid injury (not that I'm unsympathetic to those who've suffered it -- ow). So let's get rolling.
First, you have to know something's up when it's Denny doing the opening voiceover and not Meredith. "I believe in a heaven," he intones. "I also believe in a hell. Because without a heaven, without a hell, we're all just headed for limbo." That's ominous, even for those who didn't attend Catholic school. Denny's still following Izzie around, to her annoyance. She can't figure out why he's still here after she broke up with him. "I'm here for you, Izzie Stevens," Denny repeats for something like the 40th time since he started turning up. But for the first time something clicks in my head -- maybe it's the distancing language and patterns of liars I learned about the other night on Lie to Me -- but him using her full name suddenly makes me suspicious....... cont’d

Actors union loses support for strike vote - Jan 22, 2009
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Screen Actors Guild has lost the necessary support on its board to proceed with a strike vote after a hardline faction within the union and the guild's president on Thursday backed a plan to suspend the vote.
A group of Hollywood actors, led by guild president Alan Rosenberg, also recommends sending the movie studios' final three-year contract offer directly to its 120,000 members for a vote.
The group's statement Thursday follows months of preparations for a strike vote that would have given the guild the power to shut down production of major-studio movies and prime-time TV shows. The last contract expired in June.
Although the guild has not acted officially to revoke its Oct. 19 plan to call a strike vote if mediation failed, the Hollywood group known as Membership First was the last major bloc still supporting that plan. Its reversal now means chances of a walkout are extremely slim.
Other members of the 71-member board, including those from New York and the regions, also oppose a strike vote...... cont’d

Networks zero in on Thursday nights - January 26, 2009
Casting and other changes in prime-time lineups have thrown must-see TV into a tizzy.
Now that Gil Grissom has left the building, we can get acquainted with a simple truth: Thursday nights on network TV are totally up for grabs.
When William L. Petersen left " CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" after more than eight seasons playing the crusty forensics ace Grissom, the dynamics of television's most important night -- when marketers try to hit viewers planning their weekends -- changed yet again. And no one really knows where things will end up.
If this past week is any guide, "CSI," long CBS' top scripted series, will see significantly lower ratings as viewers get accustomed to Petersen's replacement, Laurence Fishburne. The original "CSI" has always been the most popular of the three-show franchise (the others are "CSI: New York" and "CSI: Miami"), and the Petersen exit is the first major threat it's seen to its dominance.
This creates an opportunity for rivals. ABC is angling for a ratings and critical renaissance for " Grey's Anatomy," the medical drama that viewers have been complaining has been in a creative funk this season. Meanwhile, NBC is set to unplug "ER" this season, apparently with a goodbye pat from former cast member George Clooney (next season, Jay Leno's new prime-time show will occupy that spot). And Fox, in its umpteenth effort to get some sort of traction on Thursdays, just moved "Bones" to 8 p.m. and scored some decent numbers.
Add it up and you get a picture of a night in flux everywhere. That could have a big effect on what viewers see, and not just on Thursdays...................there’s more
