SPOILERFIX SPOILAGE Episodes 5.06: Life During Wartime Airdate: October 30, 2008 * 10/27 - To help Bailey become the best general surgeon at Seattle Grace, the Chief gives her new power, new responsibility, and the challenge of removing a young girl's inoperable tumor, as the new head of trauma, Owen Hunt, challenges both the attending doctor's methods and the residents' surgical abilities. Guest Starring are Kevin McKidd as Owen, Scott Haven as Randy, Lauri Johnson as Grandma Ruth, Brandon Scott as Intern Ryan. Source: ABC * 10/08 - Two doctors explain an extremely risky set of surgeries to parents and relatives of 10-year-old Tori Begler, a young patient with a tumor in her abdomen. The parents are concerned because none of the other hospitals they visited suggested these surgeries before. One of the doctors admits that it's never been done before. Doctors also help Charley Hiott, who needs a tetanus shot and some morphine. Source: SpoilerFix.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- General Spoilers: * 09/18 - Callie is definitely not pregnant. [...] Lexie and George don't have a romance this season that's a major storyline (at least, not in the first part of the season); however, two other doctors we love will be hooking up, and it is most definitely major. Source: Kristin on E!Online * 09/11 - [Shonda] Rhimes says Bailey will find a better balance of work and marriage. Source: TV Guide * 09/11 - Although [Kevin] McKidd's status is technically still recurring, I'll be shocked if he isn't made a full-time regular by the end of the season. Shonda Rhimes is apparently doing cartwheels over his work thus far. [...] L Word alum Janina Gavankar is joining the cast of Grey's Anatomy as an intern. Meanwhile, relative newcomer Brandon Scott (Cold Case) is also checking into Seattle Grace as a junior McDreamy. [...] Gavankar and Scott will start off as recurring players. Source: The Ausiello Files * 08/28 - [Dr. Addison Montgomery] may take another trip back to Seattle Grace sometime in the middle of the season, hints executive producer Shonda Rhimes. "I don't know if it's going to work with the story, and we don't want her to come back for a visit if it doesn't feel important, something only Addison can do," says Rhimes. "But the idea is on the table." Source: Entertainment Weekly * 06/14 - I hear someone may be preggers - and that someone shared a red-hot smooch in the finale! SCOOP-AGE & OTHER TRICKSTERS The Ausiello Files 'Grey's Anatomy' Exclusive: Mary McDonnell's Secret Revealed! - Oct 30, 2008 If you suspected there was a twist surrounding Mary McDonnell's three-episode Grey's Anatomy arc, congratulations, you were right. Turns out her character, a celebrated cardiac surgeon brought in to boost Seattle Grace's national ranking beginning Nov. 13, is living with Asperger's syndrome. More here: Ausiello http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/10/mary-mcdonnells.html --------------------------- Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'Chuck,' 'Lost,' '90210,' 'Smallville,' 'Fringe,' 'Pushing Daisies,' and More! - Oct 28, 2008 Question: So what's this big Denny-related story on Grey's that could but might not open the door for Katherine Heigl to leave the show? -- Shari Ausiello: I'll say this: The exit primer I alluded to does not concern any kind of health crisis. Rather, it pertains to a very dark day in Izzie's professional career that rears its ugly head again. Question: How long is Melissa George's contract for? Not too long, I hope -- Grey's is already too bloated. -- Karen Ausiello: Reports suggest she's doing at least 11 episodes, but in my recent Q&A with her, she said there's no end date. As for the bloating…well, they work in a hospital. Aren't there pills for that? Question: President Roslin (a.k.a. Mary McDonnell) on Grey's Anatomy?! Give us the scoopage on this smurftastic news for Battlestar Galactica and Grey's fans! -- Brenda Ausiello: She debuts Nov. 13, and her Dr. Virginia Dixon character has something in common with a Bones regular. If you want more than that, you'll have to pick up the new issue of EW, on sale Friday. http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/10/ask-ausiello--3.html?iid=top25-20081029-Ask+Ausiello%3A+Spoilers+on+%27Grey%27s+Anatomy%2C%27+%27Chuck%2C%27+%27Lost%2C%27+%2790210%2C%27+%27Smallville%2C%27+%27Fringe%2C%27+%27Pushing+Daisies%2C%27+and+More! --------------------------- 'Grey's Anatomy' Spoiler: Mer's Bisexual BFF Declares, "Something Did Happen" - Oct 27, 2008 Circle Nov. 13 on your calendar. That's the day Alias' Melissa George debuts as Grey's Anatomy's newest intern, Sadie. This is noteworthy for several reasons: First off, it's Melissa George. Duh. Secondly, she's Mer's best friend in the whole world. And lastly, she's part of a new breed of extremely hot, young, professional females on TV who like to have sex with both men and women (i.e. House's Thirteen, Bones' Angela, Callie on Grey's, etc.). The big question, of course, is whether those last two things (Sadie's bisexuality and Mer) ever intersected. Based on my following Q&A with George, I think the answer's pretty obvious. AUSIELLO: Tell me about Sadie MELISSA GEORGE: I'm dying to find out more about her because her behavior is so interesting. She's a girl that walks on the wild side. She's very close with Meredith; they were best friends. They traveled around the world together. And when Meredith went to work at Seattle Grace, Sadie went to work at a morgue. I'm dying to know why she behaves so recklessly. Anyone who behaves like that has to have a lot of issues. For the record, is she bisexual or a lesbian? She just takes anything -- whatever walks in front of her. [Laughs] If it's a male, she'll go for it. If it's a female, she'll go for it. She doesn't think attraction should be [limited] by gender. I sort of look at people and go, "Wow, how do you live like that?" But she seems to get a thrill out of shocking people. The obvious question: Did Mer and Sadie "experiment" back in the day? We don't know. But that's what's so intriguing: What happened between these two? It's brought up a lot [on the show], but we've never revealed what happened. But something happened. I think so. There's a lot of [Mer-Sadie] dialogue like, 'Don't tell them what happened!" So, something did happen, but I'm not sure what. They obviously traveled together and were very close. Did they date? Did they not? Did something major happen to them that they swore they'd never discuss? It could be anything. How long are you committed to the show for? I'm here for a while. I'm sort of playing it by ear. I'd love to stay as long as possible. I'm shooting my fourth one this week, and I don't think it's stopping. Conventional Grey's wisdom has you gravitating toward one of Seattle Grace's other two bisexual docs, Callie or Erica. Do you know which one it'll be? They haven't told me, and I've been asking them every day, "Which one am I going to be making out with?" Or not! It could be one of the guys. I just said yes to Grey's Anatomy, the greatest show on TV. I didn't say, "What do I have to do?" So I'm sort of looking around going, "Which one is going to be my girl or my guy?" Last season at this time, there were no bisexual characters on Grey's. Now there are at least three. Is there something in the water at Seattle Grace? I'm not sure. Maybe they're not getting the right victims coming through the door so they're bored. [Laughs] Bisexuality exists. It's common. I guess they're experimenting with it. So, getting back to the question I posed in the intro: Is it as obvious to you as it is to me that Mer and Sadie dabbled in some, ahem, extracurricular activities back in the day? Or is it just a smokescreen for an even bigger secret they're harboring (i.e. they killed someone and dumped their body in theAtlantic)? Post your theories below! http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/10/greys-anatomy-s.html?xid=rss-ausiellofiles-%27Grey%27s%20Anatomy%27%20Spoiler:%20Mer%27s%20Bisexual%20BFF%20Declares,%20"Something%20Did%20Happen" --------------------------- --------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ask or Watch with Kristen Grey's Dissection: Major Hottie...or Nottie? - Oct. 30, 2008 He's a babe. And he, um, stabbed a Babe. And a Wilber. And a few other questionably adorable but fully innocent pigs. So what the bejesus are we to think now of Grey's Anatomy's latest addition, Kevin McKidd, after tonight's controversial episode? Is he really sticking around? And what's this about McSteamy's (Eric Dane) hooking up with another doctor? Here's the inside scoop you need to know… http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b66562_greys_dissection_major_hottieor_nottie.html --------------------------- Grey's Anatomy: Is Major Hottie Here to Stay? There's a new badass in town, and his name is Major Owen Hunt, or as we like to call him around here, Major Hottie McHotPants. Kevin McKidd's Army surgeon character returns to Seattle Grace tonight...presumably to spice things up with one Miss Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh). So how long is he staying and what fiery ginger spice is in the works for Owen and Cristina? Lucky for you, we hit the set to get the word from Kevin McKidd himself.... According to McKidd, the arrival of Major Owen Hunt is going to be a shock to Seattle Grace's system, since after all those years of doing battlefield medicine, he doesn't play by the polite rules of a cosmopolitan teaching hospital. He told us, "These Army trauma surgeons...Their methods in the field are improvised and not by the book. Hunt deals with stuff on the hoof and uses stuff he has around him to fix stuff." McDreamy, McSteamy...MacGyver? Yes please! THE ROMANCE As you saw in the pilot, Cristina and Hunt have a little somethin'-somethin' brewing. According to McKidd, "There's something, there's a little flame growing there between him and Cristina. I don't think it's going to be a simple journey for those two, but there's something definitely going on. We don't know if it's going to be a smooth road or a rocky one." Hate to break it to you dude, but it's Grey's Anatomy. The road will be rocky! (Mmmm...Did someone just say Rocky Road to a pregnant woman? Cruel.) What kind of challenges will Cristina and Hunt face if they take each other on? McKidd told us: "The thing that's interesting is that she's damaged in that way because of her past experience. He's not the most together guy because he's just been in a war zone for the last three years of his life. So I think maybe there'll be some healing going on between the two of them." THE FUTURE I've been getting fan emails for weeks hoping that Major Hottie would return to stay. ("He's so cute! Can we keep him, puh-leeeeeze! I promise I'll walk him every day and feed him and..." You get the idea.) Will McKidd stay on, long-term? Survey says: "Possibly." (Though my sources tell me they've heard he's most likely becoming a series regular.) According to McKidd, "It's exciting to be thrown into such an established group and strong characters, strong-minded characters. And this guy Owen Hunt is very strong-minded and very dedicated to what he's doing and the job. He's pretty damaged, so he wants to keep a distance from people I think. It's going to be interesting to see what that adds to the chemistry of the show." http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b66076_greys_anatomy_major_hottie_here_stay.html --------------------------- Ask or Watch with Kristen .... Whatever - Oct 20, 2008 Amy in Reno, Nev.: Where is "Major Hottie," aka Kevin McKidd, on Grey's Anatomy? I was hoping he was going to be a regular. Do you know if he's coming back? Please, please, please let him come back! Hey, wow, look at that. My calendar says that the fall sweeps period begins on Thurs., Oct. 30. Weird. I wonder why I just noticed that? All I know is that I hope Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Major Hottie are as on as I hear they are, and that certainly would be a good time to kick off that romance. http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b64589_spoiler_chat_who_will_die_on_gossip.html --------------------------- --------------------------- --------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ET ---- E!Online Wait a Minute, Are Meredith and Derek Getting Married? - Oct 22, 2008 USA Today is reporting that Patrick Dempsey is hinting at a hitchin' to Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). He told a reporter Monday night "there may be" wedding bells in the future for Meredith and Derek on Grey's Anatomy. "Rumor has it something might be happening," he said. "I think they have to. It's time for them to get together!" That may very well be the case (depending on which impassioned fan you ask), but is a wedding really going down? Luckily for you, I have reliable inside sources who just gave me the inside scoop... "We haven't shot anything related to any kind of engagement or wedding," a source on set whispers. "And I haven't seen anything in a script." Well, hmph! Thanks so much, Mr. Sexy Hair, for getting our hopes up! Of course, the nuptials could very well happen further down the road, and it certainly seems obvious that Meredith and Derek would end up happily (married) ever after at some point, but my guess is that will be a wee bit closer to the end of the series. So perhaps Patrick is just putting his own plea out there to end the Mer-Der yo-yo games? Could be. In the meantime, though, sources also tell me that as far as they know, there are no current plans to build a dream-house set for Meredith and Derek. So again, that may happen sometime in the future (end of the season?), but not right now. What do you think of a Mer-Der wedding? Too soon, or should they just tie the knot already? http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b65068_wait_minute_are_meredith_derek_getting.html --------------------------- Whitney gala stars hint at fall TV plots - Oct 21, 2008 NEW YORK — As an array of actors, models, designers, artists and socialites dripping in diamonds descended on the Whitney Museum of American Art for a fundraising gala co-chaired by Donatella Versace and special guest Patrick Dempsey on Monday night, talk on the red carpet turned to the new television season When asked if there would be wedding bells for his Dr. Derek Shepherd and Ellen Pompeo's Dr. Meredith Grey on Grey's Anatomy, Dempsey, who is featured in Versace's advertising campaign, replied, "There may be. I think so. I don't think it will be a typical marriage. Rumor has it something might be happening. I think they have to. It's time for them to get together." ............other stuff http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2008-10-21-whitneygala_N.htm --------------------------- Preview of 'Grey's Anatomy' 5.06: Life During Wartime - October 24, 2008 Video Dr. Owen Hunt is back, intimidating some doctors but making one flies high, all new in 'Grey's Anatomy'. Kevin McKidd falls back to "Grey's Anatomy" as the mean but "hunky" doctor Owen Hunt. He will be featured on the episode called "Life During Wartime", taking advances in his romantic relationship to Cristina. Owen returns as the head of trauma, challenging both the attending doctor's methods and the residents' surgical abilities. He is graded as monster for not getting along with the doctors but one doctor catches his attention. Meanwhile, to help Bailey become the best general surgeon at Seattle Grace, the Chief gives her new power, new responsibility, and the challenge of removing a young girl's inoperable tumor. Owen was first introduced to the show when he shared a passionate bedside kiss with Cristina in previous season. Speaking of his character's nature McKidd said, "His methods are pretty controversial. It's quite explosive what he does when he comes back." "Life During Wartime" will air on October 30 at 9/8c. http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00019329.html --------------------------- --------------------------- Edited by oncetherewasaway, Nov 3 2008, 01:29 AM.

SIDES & SUMMARIES Ron - Scene 1 INT. CONFERENCE ROOM – DAY The white board is covered in medicalese and a rough diagram of the abdomen and it’s assorted organs. Dr. Smith and Dr. Marshall are meeting with Tori’s parents Ron and Michelle (40's), Uncle Pat and Jean (40's), and Grandma Ruth (60's). Michelle: You want to operate on her abdomen, then her heart ...? Dr. Smith: That’s right. Ron: Why didn’t any of the other hospital suggest this. Dr. Smith: Probably because it’s never been done before. Michelle looks at Ron. Torn. Dr. Marshall catches their look. Dr. Marshall: It’s extremely risky. There are a number of thing that could go wrong due to the radiation Tori has undergone. Michelle: I don’t know, Ronnie. Maybe we should try more chemo. Dr. Smith: All due respect, Mrs. Begler, I don’t think there’s time for that. Ron: Is it going to save her life? Dr. Smith: It’s your best shot. Your only shot. Ron: Then do it. Off the Beglers. Scared as hell but hoping against hope.... ____________________________ Ron - Scene 2 INT. SURGICAL WAITING ROOM – DAY Dr. Marshall finds Ron Begler pacing outside the room Ron: Dr. Marshall. How’s Tori? And Dr. Marshall can’t hide his annoyance Dr. Marshall: She’s stable. Dr. Smith’s removing the tumor right now. I should really get back in there. Ron: I just wanted an update. Dr. Marshall: It’s not important that you get an update right now. What’s important is that the best people we have in this hospital are focused on your daughter. Interruptions don’t help us focus. Ron: I’m sorry. I know we’re underfoot sometimes. But we’ve been in a lot of hospitals and hospitals are not easy place to get information. In fact, a lot of times, it’s impossible to even get the doctors to talk to you. Or to get the doctors to talk to each other. I don’t know if it’s neglect or their egos getting in the way and I don’t care. We’re just trying to take care of our little girl. She’s ten, and she’s scared, and she’s dying. We’re doing whatever we can. Dr. Marshall absorbs this a beat. Looks at Ron. Dr. Marshall: Don’t ever stop taking care of her like that. ____________________________ Grandma Ruth - Scene 1 INT. ICU SUITE – DAY Dr. Smith and Dr. Marshall enter, and we see 10 year old Tori Begler. And her family. All nine of them. The include her mom and dad, Michelle and Ron (40's), her 14 year old brother David, her grandparents Joe and Ruth (60's), her uncle Pat and aunt Jean (40's) and two teenage cousins, Grace and Robert. And the family is smiling and warm. Wholesome even. Dr. Smith: Tori Begler. Age 10. Tori has an abdominal leiomyosarcoma. The tumor is wrapped around the celiac artery, the splenic artery and left gastric artery. It’s considered unresectable. Dr. Smith looks at Tori. Dr. Smith: Did you understand anything I just said, Tori. Tori: Not really. Dr. Smith: Well, I ‘m afraid to say, due to the location of the tumor, it will be hard to get out, but we’re going to try our best. Grandma Ruth: What does that mean? Try your best? Dr. Smith: We’re going to try everything we can. Grandma Ruth: Everything you can should include your cardiothoracic gal. Dr. Stewart at Seattle Pres said the vasculature is the big problem, and you stole the best cardiothoracic surgeon he’s ever had. If she’s not on Tori’s team, we’re leaving and going to San Francisco. (then warmly) Fudge? It’s homemade. And Grandma Ruth holds out some fudge for Dr. Smith, as he thinks maybe this family as a slightly harder edge than they thought... ____________________________ Grandma Ruth - Scene 2 INT. Michelle: You want to operate on her abdomen, then her heart...? Dr. Smith: Yes, it’s the best way to proceed with the removal of the tumor. We’d also be using synthetic grafts to reconnect the tissue. Grandma Ruth: Why didn’t Graham or Fleisher over at Redwood Hospital suggest this? They’re a couple of smarties. Dr. Smith: It’s extremely risky. There are a number of things that could unfortunately go wrong. But we’re hopeful. Grandma Ruth: (looking at everyone) I don’t know ... Maybe we should try some more chemo? Dr. Smith: All due respect, Mrs. Begler, I don’t thinks there’s time for that. Off the Beglers. Scared as hell but hoping against hope.... ____________________________ Charley - Scene 1 INT. ER — DAY Dr. Smith prepares a tetanus shot for Charley Hiott. Dr. Smith: How are you feeling, Mr. Hiott? Charley: Not too good. Dr. Smith: We’re going to give you some morphine to make you feel better. Charley: Thank you. Dr. Smith: And can you remember you last tetanus? Charley: No, I can’t. Dr. Smith: It’s better to be safe. Off Charley as Dr. Smith gives him the shot...... ____________________________ Tori - Scene 1 INT. Dr. Smith: Tori. Mr. and Mrs. Begler, I’m Dr. Smith. This is Dr. Marshall. (to Tori) This is your family? Tori: Yeah. Ron: We’re her posse. She can’t shake us. She even took a helicopter, and we still found her. Tori: Dad. Tori gives her dad a weak smile. Dr. Smith nods for Dr. Marshall to show her Anatomy Jane, a model for the human body. Dr. Marshall: This is Anatomy Jane. Tori: She’s .... really ugly. Dr. Marshall: Yeah, she’s pretty hideous. But she’s also helpful. And off Tori as she listens to Dr. Marshall explain .... ___________________________ Tori - Scene 2 INT. RADIOLOGY SUITE – DAY Tori is lying down on a table. Dr. Smith’s watching the monitors as Dr. Marshall finishes inserting a catheter into Tori’s leg. Tori: (re: catheter) What’s that do? Dr. Smith: Sends in a dye that shows up on the monitors. It’ll help us see all the blood vessels in your abdomen. Dr. Smith looks up to see Uncle Pat and Aunt Jean outside the suite, looking in at them through a large window. Dr. Smith: What the ---- Excuse me for a second.... She scoots over to the intercom.. Pushes the button ---- Dr. Smith: Hello? You can’t be here. This floor is for patients only. Tori: They’re my uncle Pat and his wife Jean. They like to make sure I don’t get lonely. Dr. Smith: (to Pat and Jean) She’s not lonely. Dr. Marshall and I are very entertaining. Tori looks down, disappointed. Dr. Smith caves. Dr. Smith: Okay. Fin. But they have to stay out there. (to Pat and Jean) There’s radiation in here! And Pat gives Dr. Smith the thumbs-up. And Dr. Smith goes back to looking at the angiogram. She sees something that concerns her... Tori: Everything okay? Dr. Smith: It’s fine. Dr. Smith glances at Dr. Marshall. It’s obviously not fine... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 5.06 - Life During Wartime - 08-Oct-2008 Two doctors explain an extremely risky set of surgeries to parents and relatives of 10-year-old Tori Begler, a young patient with a tumor in her abdomen. The parents are concerned because none of the other hospitals they visited suggested these surgeries before. One of the doctors admits that it's never been done before. SONG TITLE REFERENCE & LYRICS ~ EPISODE PLAYLIST Song Title Episode 5.06 will be called "Life During Wartime" (October 30) Lyrics: Life During Wartime Lyrics Artist(Band): Green Day [Originally by Pinhead Gunpowder] Yeah we say making changes starts in the little things you do Revolution begins at home but for most of us it ends there too, and Doing something we're making changes like changing the brand of crap we buy, We say it makes a difference but that's just another lie. It used to be us and them and you and me. And now we can't reach our potential without a common enemy, A real war to fight against, instead of our petty disagreements, How can I rationalize my life during wartime lie. A call to action and a reaction, Taking our lives in our own hands, Instead of sitting around and talking about the same old shitty bands. A war is going on right now, And I'm not doing anything about it, Without a crowd I'm not so loud, I can't do anything by myself, But that's just another lie. Life During Wartime Lyrics Artist(Band): Talking Heads Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons packed up and ready to go Heard of some gravesites, out by the highway a place where nobody knows The sound of gunfire, off in the distance I'm getting used to it now Lived in a brownstone, lived in the ghetto I've lived all over this town This ain't no party, this ain't no disco this ain't no fooling around No time for dancing, or lovey dovey I ain't got time for that now Transmit the message, to the receiver hope for an answer some day I got three passports, couple of visas don't even know my real name High on a hillside, trucks are loading everything's ready to roll I sleep in the daytime, I work in the nightime I might not ever get home This ain't no party, this ain't no disco this ain't no fooling around This ain't no mudd club, or C. B. G. B. I ain't got time for that now Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit? Heard about Pittsburgh, PA? You oughta know not to stand by the window somebody might see you up there I got some groceries, some peanut butter to last a couple of days But I ain't got no speakers ain't got no headphones ain't got no records to play Why stay in college? Why go to night school? Gonna be different this time? Can't write a letter, can't send a postcard I can't write nothing at all This ain't no party, this ain't no disco this ain't no fooling around I'd love you hold you, I'd like to kiss you I ain't got no time for that now Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock we blended in with the crowd We got computers, we're tapping phone lines I know that ain't allowed We dress like students, we dress like housewives or in a suit and a tie I changed my hairstyle so many times now don't know what I look like! You make me shiver, I feel so tender we make a pretty good team Don't get exhausted, I'll do some driving you ought to get you some sleep Get you instructions, follow directions then you should change your address Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day whatever you think is best Burned all my notebooks, what good are notebooks? They won't help me survive My chest is aching, burns like a furnace the burning keeps me alive Try to stay healthy, physical fitness don't want to catch no disease Try to be careful, don't take no chances you better watch what you say NoTroutForMe / Amanda Posted: Oct 7 2008, 08:09 AM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Playlist Derek sleeps while Meredith reads Ellis' diary. PODCAST Meredith and Cristina make a run for it, Callie has Hahn seeing leaves and the Dr. Owen Hunt returns.. The ladies also hint what they really want in the next coming episode. Hey you know by now which is VOTE. We only have a few days to VOTE. so VOTE. So we encourage you to vote in your own country..it would be interesting if you voted in a country where your listening to the podcast. Vote Vote Vote We are here to talk about "life during wartime". First off we would like to takl about the work about the pigs. They made such a good job of creating the pigs..such amazing and lifelife. It was really really incredible. We ask them to make these crazy crazy things, we were very impressed. I think probably Owen Hunt. That he is the most troubled hot and interesting man. His life experience with the most incredible things that has happened to him. We love them for themselves. Owen has lived life and death. He has come back and forth. He isn't arrogant. He has both taken orders and given orders. He is its my first day, "please tell me what I can do to fix it". We had OH discussion about the before and after. between the then and now. He has gone through a incredible traumatic experience. He preformed a remarkable way of portraying the character. The chemistry between him and Cristina is just amazing. What a downer when he doesnt remember her. I love that Meredith runs without question when Cristina wanted to run when she saw Cristina. Meredith is a good soldier, which is great. Making sure that everything is great. They run forever which was pretty entertaining. Well we should have to takl about Anatomy Jane..The diaries and anatomy jane is a way of bringing her mother up completely. They are really going to represent a major part. Its going to get a chance to know your dead mother in a whole way and a new way. The diary can also be a huge thing, that you feel a measurement between your mother and you. There are definitely a good and bad among the diaries. Lexie and George. Poor Lexie man. I'm so happy that she finally realized what George is. That she named the pig. Cristina named the pig..she was chosed as the person who would least likely be involed in a patient. Cristina goes into this amazingly emotional place. She accepted the name of the pig. The last thing we cant take credit for. Where Hahn gives her expression of the inner lesbian. Where she is out there with it all. I think its the best revelation speech. Where they never felt sexually full or there..We took the story of my nephew and put it into where Hahn realizes who she is. It fits into how angry she normally is.. I love at the end Callie where callie says she may see flowers or leaves or forests. She isnt sure what she is yet. Next week is a huge thing. Its going to be big. SHonda is way happier about this whole thing. This thing has made you so da**n perky..I got to say there is THIS thing where it will make you happy. And later on it will make you SO da**n happy. There are corpses ...there are a lot of dead stuff. The thing is that if you dont see this thing next week..your going to be really annoyed. If you dont see it...its going to suck to hear it from everyone else later. posted Nov 5, 2008 - by Cait/seriouslymerderobsessed Edited by oncetherewasaway, Nov 6 2008, 12:26 AM.

EPISODE RECAP 10/30/2008 - "Life During Wartime" Season 5, Episode 506 Dr. Owen Hunt, the military field surgeon, is back at Seattle Grace, where he's been named chief of trauma. He leads a "skills lab" to help surgical interns and residents learn how to deal with trauma cases. He draws back a curtain to reveal several anesthetized pigs -- each of whom he then stabs! "Go ahead, save their lives," he tells the shocked group. "You're a monster," Izzie says and marches out. Izzie won't work on the pigs, but she has to work with Hunt, who spends all day informing her of the many medical advances based on animal experimentation. She angrily tells him, "You are torturing animals in an age where we have the technology that no longer requires us to. You want to do that, go ahead, but don't tell me I'm less of a doctor for walking away." Richard encourages Miranda to do another headline-grabbing surgery, this one on a little girl with an inoperable tumor. Meredith finds her old "Anatomy Jane" doll, which comes in handy in showing the 10-year-old girl where her tumor is, and for the surgeons, when figuring out how to remove all of the girls' affected organs at once -- and still keep her alive. The mother insists on having Erica in on the surgery, but she points out that three other hospitals have turned down the case as too risky and calls it "a huge waste of resources." She finally agrees but maintains a negative attitude. The surgery is a success and when Richard praises the team, Miranda chews out Erica for taking any credit: "You may be a fine surgeon, but today you were a pain in the ass. You made it as hard as humanly possible. We did a great job today, but that is thanks to me." Cristina, who's been trying to avoid Owen because he kissed her, is insulted when he can't remember her name, and when he criticizes her pig-saving technique as not being "quick and dirty" enough. When a real trauma rolls in, Cristina is stuck with saving all four pigs. She discourages her interns from nicknaming the pigs. "They're not pets, they're subjects," she reminds them. But she gets emotionally involved when "Wilbur" crashes and she has to operate to save his life. When she runs through how she saved each pig to Owen, she refers to them by the names the interns gave them. Owen tells her "Good job," and then tells her to "terminate them." "If you want them dead, you're going to have to do it yourself," she tells Owen, but Lexie, who also bonded with the pigs, urges Cristina to end the animals' suffering as they'd all be facing painful recoveries. Owen admits he remembers Cristina, but that was "before" his entire unit was wiped out and he's now living in the "after." Derek and Mark show up to help with two accident victims but Owen tells them they're not needed. "My residents aren't going to learn anything if they stand back and watch attendings do it. Unless that attending is me." "Rambo's completely out of control," Derek complains to Richard, who tells him he's got more important things to worry about. Alex admits that usually he'd page Derek to deal with a lacerated scalp, but Owen advises him to do it himself. When Derek inherits the patient, Alex has to explain why he used skin glue on the patient's wound: "Owen says that 'the ER is like a war zone."' "What qualifies us as a war zone?" Mark wants to know. "Our undermanned gift shop?" Mark and Derek take issue with Owen for nearly maiming the guy with the skin laceration. Owen doesn't apologize, but asks them to teach him any medical procedures he might not know. Izzie is upset that Alex asks her, after a week of sleeping together, if she minds if he sleeps with other women. She tells him he's an "ass," but finally realizes that this is his way of asking her to be monogamous, and she happily accepts. After an amazing session of sex with Callie, Erica exclaims that she's "So gay!" which sends Callie running off to Mark to have "plain old, missionary, boy-girl" sex. When she has trouble figuring out why there isn't more of a difference between sex with him and Erica, Mark tells her that the difference is that he knows she's sleeping with Erica, but Erica doesn't know Callie is also sleeping with him. Callie confesses the cheating to Erica, explaining she might never be "women-only" and Erica says, "Okay." Edited by oncetherewasaway, Oct 31 2008, 02:13 PM.

COMPANY BLOGS Grey Matter Mark Wilding on "Life During Wartime"... Original Airdate: 10-30-08 First things first. No animals were harmed in the filming of my episode. None. I know ABC ran that thing before the show started that told you that, but I figured you should hear it from me too. Those four pigs were entirely and utterly fake. Fake, fake, fake. From their little piggy tails to their glistening piggy snouts, they were nothing but plastic and fiberglass and possibly straw for the whiskers. Even their breathing was fake. It came courtesy of some guy who stood just off camera and pumped an air hose (or something similarly technical that I couldn’t explain in a million years). What WAS real is the issue of using animals to teach and perfect surgical technique. Like Derek says in the episode, it’s not ideal, but a lot of hospitals in this country use live animals for procedures where surgical mannequins have yet to successfully replicate trauma to humans. Things like blood volume loss – something else I probably couldn’t explain in a million years. Anyhow, I thought we were pretty evenhanded in dealing with the issue of animal testing. I heard from both sides as we were shooting the episode (boy, did I hear). Compelling arguments were made on BOTH sides -- including one surgeon who told me that a day after learning to do open heart surgery on a pig, she used the same technique on a human being THE NEXT DAY. She told me point blank, without a doubt in her mind, that if she hadn’t learned that procedure there’s no way she would have saved that person’s life. At any rate, I thought it was a cool way to bring back Major Owen Hunt. Even if people were appalled by what he did, his goal in the wet lab was to teach people. And to teach them the best way he knows how. Teaching, incidentally, is one of our major themes this year. See one, do one, teach one. You want to move up from being the number 12 hospital in the country, you’ve gotta fight that fight on all fronts. Be it operating on pigs, hiring better doctors or doing a better job with the doctors who are already here. Anyway, I think we came to understand Owen’s attitude toward the pigs at the end of the episode when he tells Cristina about losing all his army buddies in the RPG attack. If you’ve seen 19 of your friends die in one day, it tends to make other things in your life not seem quite as important or dramatic. My wife really doesn’t care what Owen (Kevin McKidd) does or doesn’t do to pigs. She’s just glad to see him back at Seattle Grace. REALLY, REALLY GLAD. Much like Cristina, she just thinks he’s cool and sexy as hell (I’m not either of those things so I just make up lame excuses why she can’t visit the set and meet him -- he’s a leper, he’s got TB, he’s allergic to blondes – whatever will keep her at bay). At any rate, he and Cristina make for a really interesting couple – even if he didn’t remember her name! Speaking of names, I loved Meredith remembering the silly names she gave Anatomy Jane’s organs. But if unearthing Anatomy Jane brings out Meredith’s playful side, it does just the opposite for the Chief. He, like Owen, is fighting his own set of demons. Always lurking somewhere in the back of his mind is the fact that his behavior as a young man somehow destroyed Meredith’s life. She never had the army Tori Begler has. She never had people looking out for her. People who could protect her from life’s vicissitudes. So when that doll suddenly re-appears, so does the Chief’s guilt. I don’t know if that’s something he’ll ever be able to resolve because I don’t think those kinds of things are easily resolved, even in real life. There are some things you just can’t forgive yourself for. In my wife’s case, it’s her attraction to Kevin McKidd. I’m sure, at some point in her life, she’ll feel very, very guilty about that. As for some of our other couples…I can never get enough of Izzie and Alex. He’s trying to be a good boyfriend and going about it in a typical Alex way. So that when Owen tells Derek and Mark that he wants to know what he did wrong with the scalp patient, Alex is all ears. As well as he knows Izzie, in many ways she’s still a foreign country to him. She has different customs and ways. You can either dismiss those customs and ways or try to learn to do things differently. In much the same way, Callie and Erica have yet to…calibrate. If that’s the word. They’re moving at different speeds into their relationship. Callie’s more hesitant, maybe not sure she wants to throw herself one hundred percent into this thing. While Erica sees the leaves on the trees for God’s sake! Meanwhile George and Lexie have reached a truce of sorts. I have to say, I loved that last scene where she made him a dinner of macaroni and cheese. Bailey, of course, is pretty much trying to drive up Seattle Grace’s ranking by herself. From her domino surgery to removing six organs at one go, she’s on fire. She’s not letting anything or anyone (namely Erica Hahn) get in her way. When Tori’s father talks about hospitals and how doctors ignore you or don’t talk to each other or somehow lose sight of what they’re here for – to do the best they can for the patient – it’s hard for me to clump Bailey in that group. But even she can occasionally get sidetracked (only to be set back on course by the Chief). Still, at the end, when the Chief is looking in at the Beglers all crowding around Bailey, we get the impression (or at least I hope you got it) that she’s well on her way to succeeding him as the best general surgeon at Seattle Grace. As for getting back to being one of the top hospitals in the country? Our doctors have a ways to go and lot of battles to fight. Like my wife’s latest Seattle Grace crush, Mr. Owen Hunt tells Derek and Mark, this is still pretty much Day One for them… October 30, 2008 in Mark Wilding ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Emerald City Bar ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Nurse’s Station ... Debbie Does Seattle Grace Nurse Debbie on "Life During Wartime"...October 30, 2008 Ladies! There is a new doctor in the house and let me just say YUMMY! He has already managed to affect almost all of the women here. Word has it Dr. Hunt even has Cristina Yang all hot and bothered. She apparently took one look at him this morning, grabbed Meredith Grey and ran like it was “Buy One Slice of Pizza and Get One Free” day in the cafeteria. What was THAT about? And how annoyed am I that there is obviously something going on with the new babe doctor and Cristina? I mean, give ME a chance for a change to get to someone first is all I want. Well, whatever WAS going on, it’s over now because Dr. Hunt doesn’t even seem to know that Cristina Yang exists. Nurse Olivia told Harold the dishwasher, who told me Dr. Hunt called Dr. Yang “Megan”. Megan and Cristina aren’t even CLOSE, meaning Dr. Hunt isn’t remotely interested in Dr. Yang. So there Cristina Yang. You don’t get what you want this time. Someone (me) is wearing her new hot pink t-shirt under her scrubs tomorrow. Look out Dr. Hunt! Here comes Nurse Debbie/Hot Tamale in a Hot Pink T-Shirt! Speaking of hot pink t-shirt, I am so tired of the back and forth with Izzie Stevens and Alex Karev. ENOUGH ALREADY! You’re either together, or you’re not. I heard Karev tried to pick up Michelle in Ortho, Holy in Peds and Katherine in Dermatology. Initially, I thought “Wow, Karev and Stevens have one hell of an open relationship!” But later, I witnessed Izzie giving Alex the cold shoulder, hence Alex’s man whoreness. Speaking of man whoreness… Mark Sloan and Callie seem to be going strong in the on-call room. You are probably saying to yourself, “Nurse Debbie, Sloan and Callie usually spend every available second in the on call room.” Well, now that Callie and Erica are together, should the on-call room rendezvous’ still be a-happening? What is going on? Why are these couples CHEATING left and right on each other?? Callie and Erica are CLEARLY smitten with each other. And yet, Callie and Mark met in the on-call room not once, but twice folks. See, I’m an old-fashioned kind of girl. I’m the kind of girl who subscribes to the “only two people should be in a relationship” philosophy. I thought most people lived by this code but apparently I’m the only one in this hospital who does. I heard that Callie confessed her cheating ways to Erica. I don’t know if Erica forgave Callie but I think she accepts the fact that Callie is a little tentative about the relationship. I’m so rooting for Callie. I want her to be happy. But, I will root for her no more if her self-destructive ways continue. Get it together Torres! Well folks. If I’m going to woo the hot new doctor tomorrow, I need my beauty sleep. Until next time…[/big] http://www.seattlegracegossip.com/2008/10/nurse-debbie--1.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Intern Formerly Known as Steve Edited by oncetherewasaway, Oct 31 2008, 02:04 PM.

RECAPS & REVIEWS & RATINGS BUDDYTV Grey's Anatomy: Episode 5.6 "Life During Wartime" Recap- October 30, 2008 The powers that be behind Grey's Anatomy would like us to know that no animals were harmed in the production of this episode. Uh oh, that can't be good. Tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy begins with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) cleaning out Ellis' old boxes containing memorabilia from Meredith's childhood. Meredith finds her old Anatomy Jane doll. Alex (Justin Chambers) and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) are sleeping together now and have been for a week. Of course, Alex has to go and ruin whatever goodwill exists between them by rudely asking if he is allowed to screw other people. He doesn't want to have to change his plans on banging the hot peds chick. After some false starts, Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Hahn (Brooke Smith) are finally having great sex with either other. After one particularly rousing bout, Hahn gets weepy and declares, "I am so, so gay. I am extremely gay." Callie kind of freaks out and leaves abruptly.............cont’d http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anatomy/greys-anatomy-episode-56-life-24074.aspx ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CHICAGO TRIBUNE ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CINEMA BLEND TV Recap: Grey's Anatomy - Life During Wartime - Oct 30, 2008 This.... is an episode of freaking out. Callie and Erica freak out because Erica is the biggest gay to ever gay in gaytown. Yang freaks out because McBadass is back. Bailey and The Chief aren't necessarily freaking out, but the Chief wants to groom Bailey to be his successor and she'll start by curing a girl with an inoperable tumor, so she probably should be freaking out. McBadass is shanking pigs so that he can train everyone in trauma surgery, so he's kind of a walking freak-out at this point. Izzie freaks out because Alex is still an ass and McBadass likes to train on animals. Lexie is still freaking out that George is oblivious and George is too oblivious to freak out that Lexie isn't talking to him. Ok, repeat readers know by now that I'm a bit bored with the whole Callie/Erica storyline by now, so let's just get that out of the way. After an apparently mind-blowing night of sex, Erica breaks down in happy tears. She likens her experience with Callie to finally getting glasses as a kid, thinking there was nothing wrong until she got glasses and realized that all those green splotches on trees were leaves. After years of sleeping with men and thinking that the experience was fine, her amazing sex with Callie has made her see what she's missing and she now realizes that she's so definitely, incredibly gay. Callie - and, admittedly, I - spent the length of Erica's speech staring at her uncomfortably and slightly freaked out. Callie finally just says that she has to go and runs out of Erica's apartment. Erica, obviously feeling very vulnerable right now, breaks down in sad tears and spends the rest of the day being even more bitchy than normal. ........cont’d http://www.cinemablend.com/television/TV-Recap-Grey-s-Anatomy-Life-During-Wartime-13136.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- EW.COM 'Grey's Anatomy': On the Battlefront - Oct 31, 2008 The new trauma doc comes in guns a-blazing and rubs some the wrong way, while Hahn and Callie continue to forge a real relationship I will say this: I can't wait to hear what you all thought about tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy after the passionate message-board debating last week over Callie and Erica and George and Izzie. Because this was pretty much more of the same — plus pigs. Yes, we knew this episode would be special from the first second when the no-animals-were-harmed disclaimer flashed on the screen. But first: At the Meredith homestead, Derek was learning about Anatomy Jane, a budding little doctor's version of a Barbie doll — with accurate little plastic organs that fit together inside — that Meredith used to take everywhere when she was a kid. And Alex was learning that the correct way to ask a lady if she'd like to be his girlfriend is not "I just wanna know if you're gonna go off and screw O'Malley or some other loser. 'Cause then I don't have to cancel my plans with the chick from peds." Put a guy line like that next to Hahn's giddy, tearful morning-after speech to Callie, and, well, I'm once again thinking about taking up women. .......read more http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20237121,00.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LA TIMES 'Grey’s Anatomy': Man Hunt - Oct 31 2008 Was there anybody in the hospital that Hunt (Kevin McKidd), a.k.a. the cocky new head of trauma, DIDN’T tick off in last night’s episode of “Grey’s Anatomy”?! I mean, besides Anatomy Jane. First, the guy goes and stabs a bunch of poor pigs, all as a teaching exercise for the residents and interns during a mandatory skills lab. That sent a horrified Izzie, who refused to participate, into an ideological tizzy and prompted her to label him a “murdering, sadistic bastard.” Then he had the audacity to kick Derek and Mark out of the ER after they’d been paged for help with a head injury and burn victim. He’d prefer the residents learn how to treat trauma victims without the help of any attendings save himself, thank you very much. And finally, there was the former military doc’s bumpy reunion with Cristina. Just a few weeks ago, he was heroically removing an icicle from her chest and wrapping her up in a steamy kiss. This time around, he couldn’t even seem to remember her name. Not OK. So not OK............read more http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2008/10/greys-anatomy-m.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MSNBC New doctor shakes up ‘Grey's Anatomy’ - Oct 30, 2008 Stabbed and sedated pigs and an ugly doll figure in the week's plots When pigs fly: Major Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) joined the staff of Seattle Grace as the new head of trauma for the hospital. He immediately shook up Cristina, whom he'd kissed in an earlier episode, by not remembering her name. He angered Derek and Mark by having Alex apply the equivalent of a field dressing (skin glue) rather than call them in to help with a head injury. He outraged Izzie by stabbing four enormous (sedated) pigs in order to teach the hospital's docs how to respond to trauma as he'd had to in Iraq. (ABC flashed repeated warnings that no animals were harmed, but we're still wondering what PETA will have to say about this.) By episode's end, though, Hunt had charmed everyone. He contritely told Derek and Mark he'd listen to and learn from them. He'd listened to Izzie's spiel about how modern doctors can use technology instead of animals to learn new procedures. And he'd confessed to Cristina that he was the lone survivor of his Iraq unit. "Before ... I knew your name," he said in a touching speech. "And now I'm living in the after." She's no Malibu Barbie: Meredith found an old plaything, Anatomy Jane, a doll with removable organs that she'd loved as a child. The ugly doll helped her come up with a way to treat a 10-year-old girl with a seemingly inoperable tumor, but it shook up the Chief. He finally confessed that remembering young Meredith with her doll forced him to face his own failures, and seeing the tumor girl's devoted family made him recall how alone Meredith has always been..............cont’d http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27426976/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW YORK MAGAZINE Devouring Culture Vulture ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV GUIDE Grey's Anatomy Episode Recap: "Life During Wartime" - Oct 31, 2008 his week on Grey's Anatomy, Dr. Hunt returned as head of trauma at Seattle Grace and not everyone welcomed him with open arms. Callie and Erica hit a bumpy patch when one of them became a little too emotionally involved in their new relationship, and the Chief pushed Bailey's medical abilities to the limit. While it was great to see Dr. Hunt return as a possible love interest for Cristina, it was clear pretty early on he was not going to be a hospital favorite among most of the staff. His "in the field' mentality for handling cases made him an easy target for criticism among some of the doctors, including Derek who at one point referred to him as the "Rambo" who was "out of control." Izzie also proved to be a non-fan when she refused to take part in Hunt's "live tissue" experiment, which turned out to be code for saving sedated pigs that had been (purposely) sliced open. In his defense, Hunt tried to get Izzie to see that some advancements in medical history may not have been possible if it had not been for work involving animal tests and experiments. But Izzie remained firm in her beliefs that the modern medicinal world no longer needed to use animals as lab experiments. She then ended her powerful rebuttal by saying, "Don't tell me I'm less of a doctor for walking away."................... continue on http://www.tvguide.com/Episode-Recaps/greys-anatomy/Life-During-Wartime-35071.aspx ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV SQUAD Grey's Anatomy: Life During Wartime - Oct 31st 2008 (S05E06) "I am so gay." - Hahn As much as I've been annoyed with how the Hahn/Callie courtship has gone thus far, I have to say - I think they won me over here. To see Hahn cry and blubber about how she's finally discovered herself, I couldn't help but feel bad for her. Granted she flipped the bitch-switch back on at the hospital, but you can't really blame her for that. She's gay. Callie's bi. And Major Owen Hunt likes to stab live pigs. Well it wasn't quite that harsh... OK, maybe it was - the man jabbed a knife into four sedated oinkers. Hunt is back in Seattle (apparently he returned to Iraq for one more tour and saw most of his squad die) and he didn't really make too many friends on his first day at SGH. He forgot Yang's name (his reason for doing so was respectable - living in "the after"), violated Izzie's love of animals (did we know she was a card carrying PETA member?), and from what I can tell, made Sloan and Shepherd quite jealous with all his field-tested trauma moves..........cont’d ----------------------------------------------------------------------- USA TODAY ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ZAP2IT 'Grey's Anatomy': First do no harm - Oct 30, 2008 One thing that Grey's Anatomy does so well when it's on its game (and it was tonight) is show with perfect clarity the relationship between what's going on inside a person to how they act toward others. And this week we got that in spades -- from the Chief, Hahn, Callie, Meredith, and the latest addition to Seattle Grace: Major Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), the new trauma chief. Practical learning: First of all, a disclaimer that no animals were harmed in the making of this episode proved alternately alarming and fascinating. And stayed that way, thanks to Hunt. As the Chief introduces the Major to Derek and Sloan, one of his incentives for bringing him on board becomes clear: With Hunt heading trauma, Seattle Grace is being reclassified as a level 1 trauma unit. And while McDreamy and McSteamy greet McArmy's arrival with something less than excitement, it's nothing compared to the freakout moment Cristina has when she sees him. Which is later utterly wiped away when he doesn't remember her name..............keep reading http://blog.zap2it.com/ithappenedlastnight/2008/10/greys-anatomy-1.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- RATINGS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited by oncetherewasaway, Nov 3 2008, 01:32 AM.
