Meredith: [voice over] As surgeons we are trained to fix what’s broken. The breaking point is our starting line.... at work. But in our lives, the breaking point is a sign of weakness. And we’ll do everything we can to avoid it. Meredith: [voice over] Bones break. Organs burst. Flesh tears. We can sew the flesh, repair the damage, ease the pain. But when life breaks down ... when we break down, there’s no science... no hard and fast rules. We just have to feel our way through. And to a surgeon there’s nothing worse and there’s nothing better. 5.03 – Here Comes the Flood ABC PRESS RELEASE A WATER LEAK BECOMES A FLOOD, WREAKING HAVOC AT SEATTLE GRACE HOSPITAL, ON ABC'S "GREY'S ANATOMY" Amy Madigan ("Gone Baby Gone") Returns as Dr. Wyatt "Here Comes the Flood" - A plumbing leak becomes a deluge and wreaks havoc at Seattle Grace, as the Chief attempts to implement new teaching policies and George tries to retake his residency exam; meanwhile Derek hopes to move the roommates out of Meredith's house, to their surprise, on "Grey's Anatomy," THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network[/size] "Grey's Anatomy" stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Patrick Dempsey as Derek Shepherd, Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang, Katherine Heigl as Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, T.R. SPOILERFIX SPOILAGE Grey's Anatomy Spoilers Episodes 5.03: Here Comes the Flood Airdate: October 2, 2008 * new 09/11 - A female patient with cancer is concerned her doctor is not truthful about her feelings. The patient says that she's desperate for someone to be real with her so the doctor complies and talks about her boyfriend. A male patient, who's been in pain for seven years and who saw 38 doctors to find what's wrong with him, comes to the ER because his pain is getting worse. Source: SpoilerFix.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- General Spoilers: * new 09/11 - [Derek] finally ditches the trailer. "He is going to come and live in my house," [Ellen] Pompeo reveals. "And that becomes a problem. He tries to say I have to throw my roommates out. And I consider it." Lexie falls for an oblivious George. And after putting her through the emotional wringer last season, [Shonda] Rhimes says Bailey will find a better balance of work and marriage. Source: TV Guide * new 09/11 - Although [Kevin] McKidd's status is technically still recurring, I'll be shocked if he isn't made a full-time regular by the end of the season. Shonda Rhimes is apparently doing cartwheels over his work thus far. [...] L Word alum Janina Gavankar is joining the cast of Grey's Anatomy as an intern. Meanwhile, relative newcomer Brandon Scott (Cold Case) is also checking into Seattle Grace as a junior McDreamy. [...] Gavankar and Scott will start off as recurring players. Source: The Ausiello Files * 08/28 - [Dr. Addison Montgomery] may take another trip back to Seattle Grace sometime in the middle of the season, hints executive producer Shonda Rhimes. "I don't know if it's going to work with the story, and we don't want her to come back for a visit if it doesn't feel important, something only Addison can do," says Rhimes. "But the idea is on the table." Source: Entertainment Weekly * 08/24 - "Do you want to move in?" [Meredith] asks. Of course [Derek] does, but after four seasons of she-loves-me, she-loves-me-not, Derek replies the only way he can: "Are you sure?" [...] "The first three episodes start the dynamic of where we are all going," reports Patrick Dempsey. "Meredith is trusting him and moving forward cautiously, and Derek is waiting there, saying, 'I'm here to support you.'" [... Kevin McKidd] who starred in last season's time-travel drama Journeyman [...] will be hanging around Seattle for at least 22 episodes. He plays a new character, brash Army surgeon Owen Hunt, who arrives at the emergency room after an auto accident. On the way to the hospital, he saves the other crash victims in the back of the ambulance. Derek, who is unaware of Hunt's heroism, gets up in his business when the rugged redhead interferes with one of his patients. "Who the hell are you?" he barks, later calling the soldier on leave from Iraq "Uncle Sam." [...] It's clear McKidd hasn't been brought aboard just to be McDreamy's worst nightmare. Love, or at least some steamy sex, seems to be in the air for Cristina Yang, who spent most of last season being depressed and mean while she got over Burke. In the first episode, Cristina most certainly gets her flirt on, giving Hunt's leg wound some extra-special attention. "He and Cristina definitely have a moment, which plays out not as we'd all expect," [Shonda] Rhimes says. "But, then, things never do." [...] Izzie's got a love story -- and it's a big one. [...] George and Lexie's love story is going to take an incredibly unexpected turn. See, Lexie loves George. She loves him. And George, so focused on finally getting another shot at being a resident, doesn't even see that she loves him. It happened while he was looking the other way. [...] Callie and Erica have a love story of their own. And, yes, it includes Mark. [... Mark is] finally going to get [a love interest.] Source: TV Guide * 08/24 - Many of the medical stories this season involve couples whose relationships could shed light on Meredith and Derek's situation. In one case, when a wife throws a remote control at her man, the resulting examination of his skull reveals a tumor. Source: Kristin on E!Online * 08/13 - Chief Webber is going to be whipping the staff into shape when the hospital starts to slip in the national rankings as one of the best teaching hospitals in the country. Source: Kristin on E!Online * 08/13 - An upcoming episode will find some of our favorite residents wandering over to Seattle Grace's never-before-seen dermatology department -- and they will not be happy with what they find. Namely, the kind of posh work environment more consistent with a five-star spa than a hospital. Source: The Ausiello Files * 07/20 - Things are going to be... awkward... between the [Callie and Erica] when Grey's returns. Source: TV Guide Online * 07/12 - ABC is not officially confirming the news yet, but reliable sources tell me that Rome-ing Journeyman Kevin McKidd has just signed on the dotted line to join ABC's Grey's Anatomy for its upcoming season. Playing a surgeon who arrives at Seattle Grace fresh from a tour of duty in Iraq, McKidd will first be (barely) glimpsed during the two-hour season premiere. McKidd's character, by some accounts, ultimately will play doctor with Cristina, who has been nursing a broken heart and a seriously bruised ego ever since you-know-who didn't stop talking skedaddled out of Seattle a season ago. Source: TV Guide Online * 06/14 - I hear someone may be preggers - and that someone shared a red-hot smooch in the finale! Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide * 01/10 - Someone - and a major someone at that - wants to be discharged from Seattle Grace, and STAT. But, as far as I can tell, that someone is not Sandra Oh. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide http://www.spoilerfix.com/grey.php ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited by oncetherewasaway, Oct 17 2008, 02:16 PM.

SCOOP-AGE & OTHER TRICKSTERS The Ausiello Files Ask Ausiello - Oct 8, 2008 The long-simmering Mer-Der-Izzie-Alex quadrangle comes to a head this week. Okay, maybe "long-simmering" is a bit much. Basically, Derek gives Mer an ultimatum about their new living arrangements: "If I move in, your friends [i.e. Izzie and Alex] must move out." I won't reveal how the housing shake-up plays out, but I can tell you that by the end of the episode a new classic TV odd couple will be born. (Hint: The unlikely duo may or may not include any of the folks listed above.) http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/10/ask-ausiello-sp.html Oct 1, 2008 Question: Any scoop on Grey's Anatomy's Callie and Erica? -- Ally Ausiello: Their secret affair won't be a secret much longer. Next week, word of their sapphic romance makes its way to two of their colleagues. Also in the episode: One of last season's most significant relationships comes to an end. Question: Grey's spoilers please! -- Jack Ausiello: Alex and Izzie contemplate moving in together next week. Well, one of them contemplates it. The other one just says mean and hurtful things. Question: Any good Mer/Der news? Emily Ausiello: This is more Der than Mer, but the Oct. 16 episode will feature Patrick Dempsey completely naked save for one strategically placed pillow. That's pretty good, yes? --------------------------- --------------------------- --------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ask or Watch with Kristen Grey's Dissection: After the Flood - Today 12:34 But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the cattle that were with him in the ark; and God caused a wind to pass over the earth, and the water subsided. Genesis 8:1 Grey's Anatomy returned tonight with another strong outing, "Here Comes the Flood." The Chief read his staff the riot act; the hospital pipes burst, forcing everyone to take high ground; and, as per usual, a bunch of beautiful people mooned over each other. Good times! CURRENT SYMPTOMS Meredith's Pain: According to Christina, Meredith's day-to-day psychological and emotional pain is an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10, and Derek Shepherd doesn't even know it. Totally separate from the ramifications for Meredith, Christina and Derek, it just makes me sad that Mer walks around with that much unhappiness every single day. She sounds desperately ill. Work, love and talk therapy are all good stepping stones on the road to wellness, but I kind of think she needs to take it up a notch and consider more radical treatments..........cont’d http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with...fter_flood.html Grey's Anatomy: Is McDreamy Moving In With Mer? - Mon., Oct. 6, 2008 3 Sneak Peeks http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with...ng_in_with.html --------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ET ---- E!Online --------------------------- --------------------------- --------------------------- Edited by oncetherewasaway, Nov 10 2008, 01:53 AM.

SIDES & SUMMARIES Casting Sides 5.03 Thanks to Crys at TWoP and Linda Administrator – (Interior hospital room) Tom is trying to make himself comfortable in the midst of the hospital bed and table. The Administrator looks at his watch and says that the Fellowship Committee won’t meet for another two weeks and asks Tom if he wants to do the paperwork there. Tom says he does and he’s ready. The Administrator hands Tom the forms and just when he’s about to start filling them out he hears a monitor flatlining in the next room and a team of medical professionals rush by. Tom remarks that it’s loud in there and the Administrator says that is why they usually do this in his office. Tom miserably hands the forms back to the Administrator. Eli Doyle – (interior Mr. Doyle’s neuro test taking room) Dr. Smith is running several tests on Eli when Dr. Harper walks in. Dr.Smith asks Eli how’s the pain and he answers wincing that it’s a 9. Dr. Harper approaches Eli and tells him he’s a board certified ENT. Eli remarks that he’s seen 16 ENTs and none of them were able to help him. Dr. H asks Eli for permission to run a quick test and he agrees. Dr. H takes a metal pointer and inserts it into Eli’s nose. Dr. H tells Eli he’s going to touch his “medical” nerve and if the nerve is inflamed he’ll feel a sharp pain. Eli leaps out of the chair screaming and it’s a combination of overwhelming pain and overwhelming joy for finding the cause of his pain. Eli is left feeling relieved…. (interior Eli’s room) Eli is in bed staring out the window. Dr. Harper enters and says she needs to draw some blood and do "medical" before he can be taken to surgery. Eli greets her with a smile. Dr. H asks him how’s his pain and he answers an 8. Dr. H apologizes saying he looked like he had some relief. Eli answers that he’s spent 7 years trying every pain killer and nothing helped. He’s had doctors tell him it’s his imagination, that he’s crazy and called him a drug addict. His wife died last year after spending years carting him around from doctor to doctor, test to test. His wife died and he couldn’t feel the pain because he was too occupied with THIS pain. It’s been 7 years, 38 doctors and he finally knows what’s wrong and Dr. Smith is going to fix it so Dr. H is right and Eli is feeling some relief. Eli smiles and Dr. H smiles back. Dr. Smith walks into Eli’s recovery room and he is sobbing uncontrollably. Dr. S asks Eli if he’s in greater pain and then Dr. S realizes... Dr. S explains to Eli that he didn’t have surgery yet. Eli was put under but the surgeon got called away and didn’t do the procedure. Eli asks Dr. S if that means there’s still hope and Dr. S responds affirmatively. Eli cries tears of relief and clings on to Dr. Smith’s hand. Shelley – Dr. Simms prepares Shelley for surgery telling her she’s going to do “medical” on her and then take her down to surgery. Shelley observes Dr.Simms' mood and remarks that she doesn’t know Dr.Simms and apologizes if she’s wrong but that Dr.Simms seems to be stressed/distracted/down. Dr.S says she’s fine. Shelley asks her not to say that because when she got cancer, her whole family, her friends and especially her sister [Jenn] seem like they’ve had their personalities surgically removed and replaced by fake cheerful people who only talk to her about sunshine and kittens and that’s so much worse than cancer. Dr. S smiles and can’t help but to like Shelley. She continues by saying that if Dr.S really is distracted, upset or annoyed by something, it would be the most wonderful medicine if Dr.S would tell her about it. Shelley says she’s desperate for someone to be real with her for 5 minutes. Dr.S sees that Shelley really wants this and asks her if she wants to know what’s going on with her boyfriend or her boss. Shelley’s eyes light up and she says she wants to know about the boyfriend. Dr. Simms is writing a note in Shelley’s chart. Jenn enters and tells Shelley that Mom and Dad are on their way to the new hospital and it’s going to be awesome because Aunt Sue is going to bring her guitar and they are going to throw her a welcome party in her new recovery room. Uncle Dave, Jason and Lucky are coming too and they are bringing an ice cream cake. Shelley says she’s not seven and she’s not one of Jenn’s students. She’s dying of cancer and ice cream cake doesn’t cheer her up. Shelley says that she can’t smile for Jenn and she doesn’t want Jenn to smile for her either and she’d much rather cry with her. Shelley tells Jenn she wants to know about her LIFE, not just her new kittens, but about her bad dates and how much she hates her students’ parents and her life. Shelley wants to know about Jenn’s date last night and says that’s her dying wish. Jenn stands there for a moment stunned and then simply says he had bad BO. Shelley and Jenn laugh. Jenn – Dr.Simms is preparing Shelley for surgery while Jenn arranges things around the room. Jenn asks Shelley if she saw all her new get well cards and Shelley says yes. Jenn tells her that her second graders made them for her with no dark colors or pastels, just happy colors (red, yellow, orange). Dr. Simms informs Shelley that she’s going to do “medical” and then she’s going to be taken down to surgery. Jenn tells Shelley she’s going to call everyone and let them know to start the prayer chain. Jenn asks how long will the surgery be and Dr.S answers it’s hard to say but if all goes well…Jenn states that it will go well and Dr.S says it’ll be at least a couple of hours. Shelley tells Jenn she doesn’t need to ask people to pray the whole time because they’re busy. Jenn, smiling, says they’re happy to do it, when she gets back they’ll call Mom together and she’ll be outside if Shelley needs anything. Jenn leaves and Shelley breathes a sigh of relief while Dr.S continues to do “medical.” The next scene is the same as the one in the sides for Shelley about the party and Jenn’s date. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited by oncetherewasaway, Oct 20 2008, 03:52 PM.

SONG TITLE REFERENCE & LYRICS ~ EPISODE PLAYLIST "Here Comes the Flood" - Peter Gabriel When the night shows The signals grow on radios All the strange things They come and go, as early warnings Stranded starfish have no place to hide Still waiting for the swollen easter tide Theres no point in direction we cannot even choose a side. I took the old track The hollow shoulder, across the waters On the tall cliffs They were getting older, sons and daughters The jaded underworld was riding high Waves of steel hurled metal at the sky And as the nail sunk in the cloud, the rain was warm and soaked the crowd. Lord, here comes the flood Well say goodbye to flesh and blood If again the seas are silent In any still alive Itll be those who gave their island to survive Drink up, dreamers, youre running dry. When the flood calls, You have no home, you have no walls In the thunder crash Youre a thousand minds, within a flash Dont be afraid to cry at what you see The actors gone, theres only you and me And if we break before the dawn, theyll use up what we used to be. Lord, here comes the flood Well say goodbye to flesh and blood If again, the seas are silent In any still alive Itll be those who gave their island to survive Drink up, dreamers, youre running dry. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Playlist ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited by oncetherewasaway, Nov 10 2008, 01:52 AM.

PODCAST PODCAST 10/10/08 HERE COMES THE FLOOD S: Hi B: Hi S: I’m Shonda B: I’m Betsy S & B: This is Grey’s Anatomy! B: We’re back! OT talk about the Presidential debate and voting S: Maybe we should talk about the episode B: I think the name of this episode, unlike a lot of our episodes says something very obvious about the episode. S: It’s called ‘Here Comes the Flood’ B: Which kind of tells us.... S: Signifies that maybe there was some kind of flood! B: A little bit of water, little bit of leaking.... S: a bit.... B: ...little drip.... S:....a dribble.... B: little deluge. I have to say, one of my favourite scenes in the history of the show is when the ceiling collapses on the body cavity. S: Yes, I pretty much love when the ceiling collapses into the open body cavity too because it’s pretty good. B:It’s good. It’s that slow, horror movie build...... S: It’s the drip, drip, drip. S: Bailey yelling move the patient.... point yet and you’re kinda going “what’s the deal? It’s ok, it’s ok” and then the whole ceiling collapses and it’s the doctors’ reactions. S: Yes, B:... and the best thing that comes out of this is because the ceiling collapsed...... S: the guy gets to live because they found his pancreatic tumour cancer at stage one and you never find it at stage one. B: Which is an incredible thing and gives Alex..... S: ....something to think about, B: .....a little bit of hope for a change because.... B: Absolutely S: See the girl and say “hello”, and he comes home at the end of the day and he sees the girl and he says “hello”. B: That was good. B: and it’s also just that the connection to me between Alex and this poor put upon patient. He’s the unluckiest man in the world. S: I love that patient. He’s so heartbreaking and just miserable. His whole world just falls apart all the time. B: Didn’t you guys call him Job? S: Yeah, we called him Job for a long time.... B: He was Job originally because he was the guy on which burden, after burden, after burden was continually placed... S: Yes, B: ...and he took it, and it’s just, it’s an amazingly, he’s a wonderful, wonderful actor and it’s a funny storyline and it’s also an incredibly upsetting storyline.... S:...and he was really funny doing the thing too, like he just, he really went for it, he sorta stayed in character in between takes and he really enjoyed himself, but he really, he was great. He was a wonderful guy. B: Yeah and it was just, it was a wonderful dynamic to see. Actually I don’t think we have ever really seen a patient like that before, it was great. S: That miserable? Not so much. No it’s good. B: Exactly..... S: ....and then we had our pain guy played by Daniel J Travanti.... B:....who I first watched on Hill Street Blues S: Yes. B: Who is a phenomenal guy, and we tried to get him for a long time..... S: ....yeah, and he was amazing in this role, B: he was great and...... S: ...he gives that heartbreaking speech about never ever ever feeling pain and being able to feel the pain of his wife’s death because he was in so much pain himself all the time. I just, I found him beautiful. B: Absolutely...... S: ....and he was very elegant and lovely and came and did us a favour. B: So it’s like these two patients in this episode both who endure different types of pain and so elegantly and so gracefully in a strange way. It’s that wonderful thing of first of all lexipaedia comes in.... S: Yes, B: Incredibly handily at this stage.... S: We were very proud of lexipaedia, we were very proud of that. B: She actually, very, very ,very smartly remembers something from George’s study and comes up with this whole thing that maybe the problem that this patient is having is maybe not as complicated as we think it is, which is, I think an amazing moment and is that great dynamic, too, between Cris and Lexie which is totally terrific. S: Which I love. B: Exactly. B: And this weird funny thing going on with Dr. Sloan. S: Yes, poor Dr. Sloan. B: Poor Sloan. Sloan’s kind of.......left in the wilderness. S: I think he kinda might be a little bit confused right now. B: He feels that way to me, he actually feels that way to me. I don’t think he’s got his sure footing. S: I think something’s coming! B: I think maybe it is, I think maybe down the line a little something, a little something, something..... S: Yeah. B: No absolutely. S: I think when Krista Vernoff came to me and said I wanna write an episode about a flood I was like “dude, we just had an ice storm, it’s gonna feel crazy like, let’s not do it”. B: It’s like the plagues you know, it’s like, where is the ....where’s that cattle disease? S: But she felt really strongly about it and we talked a lot about how a) a big ice storm could in fact lead to a flood, like scientifically and cool.gif...... B: (laughing).....scientifically.... S: I generally don’t care about the scientific part of it but....scientifically it could really happen and she had really good ideas and thoughts about what the flood could mean metaphorically for the hospital which has now had it’s ranking fall to number 12 and the Chief being put upon and what really got me was her pitch on the interaction between Bailey and the Chief about the flood. How Bailey keeps coming to the Chief and saying “ don’t you think it’s time to shut it down, don’t you think it’s time to call it?” and the Chief being absolutely unable to do so until Bailey comes to him to tell him that the ceiling has fallen on the patient in the OR. Which I love., and the poor man just being done because as we’ve said he is just as competitive as the interns. B: He is, I think that in the last two episodes and in this episode it comes out incredibly fully how difficult it is to be the boss in this situation and how difficult it is to be the boss when you are still also a surgeon. S: Yes. B: You know all that competition you see, he’s not an administrator, he’s really a surgeon, he’s really still a surgeon. He thinks like a surgeon so there’s a battle going on in his brain all the time.... S: and how much he hates being number 12. B: He hates it. S: which I think is underneath all of it. B: I also think, I love both the fact that it’s literally a biblical episode. S: Yes. B: There’s a flood, there’s Job, S: Yeah, B: There’s a man who experiences total amounts of pain, there are acts of pure generosity. I mean it’s biblical but it’s also, there also seems to me to be part trios of the first and second. I mean it is connected by the fact that the water keeps dripping and it’s the flip side for the Chief because the Chief goes through episode one and two and you get through three and the last act of this guy is this act of pure and lovely generosity. S: Yes, which I think is lovely. B: It’s absolutely gorgeous. S: That’s one of my favourite moments of the script... B: Me too.... S: is when he says, you know, O’Malley and he lets him take the test which is great. B: And they’re sitting together and there’s that last moment that always actually really chokes me up because through all of this you’ve seen the Chief actually be irritated, angry, irate, impatient.....a little bit of a baby.... S: ....a little bit of a baby.... B: a little bit of a baby sometimes and it’s this weird open act of love and generosity... S: ...he becomes an adult. B: The Chief again. S: Yeah, he becomes the Chief. B: So it’s sort of this transformation for him throughout these three episodes that I just think is phenomenal to watch. S: And speaking of biblical, Izzie basically wanders in the dessert for forty years in this episode... B: Totally. S: Looking for someone to live with her for Gods sakes. Just live with her... B: She’s out on the street in two skis and a lunchbox at this point. S: I loved the idea that Derek at this point basically not only assumes that Meredith’s gonna move her roommates out but tells them that they are going to be moved out. B: Well not only that and then basically bribes Cris into agreeing with him. S: Because he knows that Cris is where the money is really. B: Absolutely. S: If you want something done you gotta get Cris, ( for Meredith) you gotta get Cris to help you. So, but I thought that Izzie was sorta terribly heart breaking, sort of going around trying to get someone to be her roommate. B: Someone to be her roommate and then..... S: ...and then Cris who she goes to and frankly it is Izzies’ fault she did not say that she wanted her to “live with me” B: She was just literal, she wasn’t literal..... S: .....show’s her the apartment and Cris swoops in and steals it from her. B: Which is just the most egregiously horrible thing you could do but Cris doesn’t think it is..... S: It’s something I would do......B&S laugh....She would come to me with this flyer and I would be like, look an apartment and I would move into it and I wouldn’t understand that what she was saying was do you wanna live with me. I think you have to be literal. That’s the little bit of me that’s like Cris. B: There you go. You know I think that makes sense but I also just sorta felt like Cris really wants out of Burkes old apartment...just.... S: ....that’s bad mojo..... B: I mean it’s just gotten worse ever since Burke won the Harper Avery and the whole..... S: ...yeah and she’s gotten her groove back and she needs a new place. So wait till you guys see the new place, by the way! B: Ohhhh, the new place is awesome. S: I kinda wanna live there and would if there was running water and it wasn’t a fake set. Just demand running water and a fake toilet a set apartment and try live there. B: There are people who do that, well do you know what? I bet you could get running water, you could talk to people...... S: I’m pretty sure Bossy McBossy Rob Corn would have something to say about that. B: Rob Corn Bossy McBossy, I think he might shut it down..... S: I could move in there with my daughter onto the set....... B: I must say the thought has occurred to me when I’ve been in Meredith’s house..... S: ....because they just have the best places to live! B: By the way the kitchen, just for the record, that set kitchen is like three times the size of my kitchen at home.... S: It’s three times the size of my kitchen...... B: ....and we know I live in a postage stamp regardless. S: I don’t live in a postage stamp. B: You don’t actually, you live in a very spacious, lovely home. S: But still, way better, the kitchen Meredith Grey has.... B: ....but Meredith Grey’s bedroom! Seen a lot of action as we know, but that’s not the point. Meredith Grey’s bedroom also really, really nice. S: Yes, I like her bathroom, the one that she and Derek take baths in not the scary George one. (Some further silly talk about bathrooms) B: Back to the episode. There other thing that I kinda, like look at is George and Lexie Grey now..... S: ....she loves him.... B: .....she just loves him in a sniff hair, soapy smell, I’m just kinda dreaming sort of way. S: She loves him in the way Lexie lives, though,do you know what I mean? B: Like pure, over eager Bambi, like..... S: ...a puppy... B: I’ll kill something for you and bring it to you. It’s like a cat. S: She brings you a dead mouse. B: Yeah, a dead mouse. It’s sorta sitting there really eagerly, sort of hoping against hope y you’ll appreciate it. S: I mean, the girl stole files for him last year. She’s a little bit of a wild card, she’s a loose cannon. B: She didn’t just steal files, she stole pictures from them walls of the hospital. S: She stole from the hospital..... B: She’s a kleptomaniac, you know what she is? She just wants things to be nice and she gets things the way she needs to..... S: She’s a little bit of a loose cannon is I’m saying. I’m warning you people now she’s a tiny bit of a loose cannon. B: Which I think we are going to find out is incredibly entertaining to watch and also she’s got real depth, this girl. S: I love her. I love how she is all heart basically, she’s all heart... B: Oh absolutely and the most loyal person ever..... S: ....completely without common sense..... B: ...that’s absolutely true. And also, what I think is amazing to me is that George is so oblivious, like all George is caring about is his test. S: George is very focused on his career because the last time he got caught up with a girl he failed his exam. B: It’s true. S: He’s not even thinking about it right now. B: ...and the time before , that was a strange reaction to his Dad’s passing. So I think that there’s a slippery relationship history with George. But I also sort of feel like you would have to be blind, deaf and dumb not to see, I mean the girl’s sniffing his hair! S: He doesn’t notice her sniffing. B: I get that but I would still think that, you know, if you had any awareness, with the exception of the test thing..... S: .....different people....same problem......write a paper about it! B: Thank God you are here to clarify that for us because that would have been just totally confusing. S: I’m so sorry. S: Now, talk about Meredith and her therapy. B: I was just about to say because that is actually one of my favourite topics. S: Meredith breaks up with her therapist, which I love. First of all I love Dr Wyatt...uhmm... Amy Madigan is one of my favourites. B: Awesome! S: But I love that Meredith shows up and is basically like “Derek’s moved in, I’m healed” which is crazy because..... B: ...it is.... S: ....you know, kitchen floor, pool of blood.... B: ....Yeah, kind of history, long, long, scary, weird history.... S: ....drama.... B: ....of mum and strange stuff.... S: ...body cavity bomb.... B: ...possibly death wishes and all that kind of stuff... S: ...yeah.... B: ....and you know what? Also kind of therapy usually takes a little while. There was always that thing of however long it took you to get screwed up it may take that long to fix. Which, gosh, I hope not..... S: ....with Meredith I hope not..... B: ....because we’ll be gumming our food in our nineties and she’ll be still going to therapy! S: But I love the optimism involved in sort of saying I’m done and I love Meredith’s patients who you know, is this lovely, lovely girl who is dying and really believes that her cancer is going to be cured and Meredith ends up going to Wyatt and saying like what is the point of being happy when people are dying and nothing can be solved. What is the point of being happy and I love that Wyatt said that it’s, basically, being happy is not the point, being able to deal with being unhappy is the point, basically. So for me, I thought it was a very valuable lesson for Meredith. B: I think it’s an amazing......because that’s the truth it’s, what’s the point? S: I mean she is able to go home and yell at her boyfriend when generally she would be drinking Tequila and breaking up with him already. B: Well, and she would immediately assume, and she does already, if she actually says how she really feels he’ll break up with her because the fact is that was the way she was raised, was every single time she actually showed a real emotion she was shot down. S: Poor thing, poor Meredith. B: I know, this is the thing I wanna say about Meredith. People say to me occasionally, they say, wow, I don’t understand why Meredith just can’t get over it, you know, why can’t she just get over it? There’s this happy, handsome guy with great hair and what’s the issue? And it’s....just think about it for a second, think about what the woman lived through and think about the way she was raised and how amazingly functional she is and how well she takes care of other people. I’m always amazed. S: You know, think about what it took for that girl to stand in the middle of that field and build a house of candles. B: Oh, don’t get me started on that! I mean....hello?.....stop. The candles alone, the hauling that crap out there..... S: ...the candles.....yes..... B: ...going to the store and getting all the candles, renting the truck for the candles. S: I’m surprised her head didn’t explode because it was too much... B: ...it was a lot.... S: ...and Cris has already told her that it won’t work.... B: ...yeah, and she took it back but, by the way, she didn’t really take it back because now it’s under there some place but Cristina has her own reasons, you know.... S: ....yeah,I love that Christina shows up in that office and tells her that you have to tell her that she can’t move in with Derek and it’s a big mistake.... B: I do too.... S: I love that.... B: ...and then what Wyatt says which is essentially it must be lonely for you..... S: ....losing Meredith to Derek, and I love, I just love that Cristina says, you know, we’re just re-enacting the show at this point because we love this part! We love that she says, you’re a terrible shrink because it’s true as far as Cristina is concerned she’s a terrible shrink and of course we all know it’s the truth exactly but not from Cristina’s perspective. B: But I also love that we’re continuing here that whole idea that Cristina and Meredith are the key, core relationship. S: Meredith and Cristina are the love story of this show they have been since the beginning... B: ....and can they continue to be because you don’t really get to see TV. shows a lot about friends. S: The show for me has always been about best friends. B: We totally agree on that, that was the issue, two people are actually, no matter what they do, are loyal to each other and can’t be separated. S: Boys come and go, your friends stay around! Shall we talk about the next episode? B: What’s it called? S: It’s called “Brave New World” B: Well okay so it’s not actually literally about a brave new world this time so we’re ok... S: We’re not actually growing a whole new world in the hospital. B: Just to make sure everybody understands that we are not now going to the literal title school. That would be problematic. S: No, there’s some interesting stuff that happens in this episode.....uhm B: ....things happen..... S: ...yeah, things happen that are interesting and amazing. B: Characters will do things..... S: ...wait till you see what Bailey does! B: ...oh, it’s gonna be unbelievable! S: Oh my God! B: And also Meredith and Derek..... S: Shocker! B: Really, really worth while watching.... S: Shocker! B: Shocker! S: Shocker! B: Incredibly shocking! S: Actually I don’t think it’s shocking! B: I don’t it is either but....so you know we’re just making up. S: We can’t tell you anything. B: We do this every single week. S: If you watch it you’ll hear us discuss it later. B: You know people say to us why don’t you tease the episode and then we always end up saying things like exciting and shocking. S: I know, it’s sad. I really don’t what to tell you. B: Except please watch it. S: There are patients and surgeries.... B: ..... and it stars the hospital and I think as of next week they may still be number twelve... S: ......they’re still number twelve. B: ....ok so I think we can still count on that, the ratings haven’t changed S: Proudly wearing the badge number twelve. B: I think that’s exactly the case. So, uhm, that kinda wraps it up for us. S: We have to vote but not right now because it isn’t voting time yet. B: We should practice, that’s all I’m saying. S: Practice and register, register and practice. B: Absolutely, so this is Betsy.... S: ...and this is Shonda.... B&S ....and this is Greys Anatomy! ksd2000 / Kelly Posted: Oct 14 2008, 03:07 AM Edited by oncetherewasaway, Oct 20 2008, 03:54 PM.

EP RECAP Meredith is so happy now that Derek's moved in that she quits therapy. Alex and Izzie try to persuade Meredith to let them stay, even though Derek expects them both to move out. "Remember the muffins!" Izzie says, reminding Meredith of her baking skills. The staff is sobered when Richard announces a new set of rules for Seattle Grace: Residents are no longer allowed to specialize, playing favorites with interns is strongly discouraged, as is getting emotionally invested in patients. George is all set to finally retake his intern exam, but a burst pipe makes that impossible. He puts his exam on hold to help the chief deal with the crisis of moving patients to the clinic. "I'm your intern for one more day, at least," he says. The flooding gets worse and the ceiling collapses in one ER. Miranda had warned Richard to evacaute and he finally agrees, telling her, "Try not to gloat too much." Looking for distraction from her possibly fatal cancer, a patient quizzes Meredith about her boyfriend. "Dude, you failed to mention the hair," she tells Meredith after laying eyes on Derek. "It's one of the things that make me happy," Meredith smiles. Thanks to her photographic memory, Lexie thinks she knows why a patient's had a seven-year headache, but Cristina doesn't want to hear it, so Lexie turns to Mark. He offers to let her scrub in since she made the diagnosis, but when she passes up the chance to help George study, Mark tells her she's "pathetic." Izzie's found a great new apartment, but her attempts to line up a roommate fizzle when both Alex and Cristina turn down the chance to share it. Meredith tells Derek that she wants Izzie and Alex to stay, "They're my family," she insists. Edited by oncetherewasaway, Oct 20 2008, 12:16 PM.

COMPANY BLOGS Grey Matter Krista Vernoff on "Here Comes The Flood"... Original Airdate: 10-9-08 Absurd. A flood. In a hospital. Those absurd, desperate writers. I know that’s what some of you are thinking. But here’s the thing… Back in June, when we were just gathering together to begin early discussions of season five, my sister Jennifer came over for dinner. Jenn is a shrink. I’m sure she has a more official title than that, but I go with shrink cause she’s my sister and she lets me. She works in a psychiatric hospital in the San Fernando Valley and her patients are mostly low functioning schizophrenics. So she came over for dinner and I said “How was your day?” and she said, “You mean aside from the hospital flooding?” And I looked at her like, seriously? And she said, “Yeah, we had to move all the patients to one wing. All the schizophrenic patients, piled on top of each other in one small wing of the hospital. That was my day.” And I said, without skipping a beat, “And that is my episode. Just so you know.” So as absurd as it may seem? Real. And in real life it was even weirder cause all the patients were CRAZY PEOPLE. Awesome. I think it’s appropriate that Jenn inspired this episode because in a way, this episode is written as a love letter to therapy. What it all comes down to for me is what Dr. Wyatt says to Meredith in the elevator, “And happiness in the face of horrible is not the goal. Feeling the horrible stuff and knowing that you’re not gonna die from the feelings? That’s goal.” Nothing better than a good shrink. I love therapy and I love what’s it done for Meredith in the short amount of time she’s gone (and I’m bummed she quit before she could get to the really good stuff.) It’s hard – to peel away the layers of the onion that is you and look at all that juice cause it burns your eyes and makes you cry and makes you hurt and makes you feel…but it also makes you better. (Oh my God, talk about a tortured metaphor. Sorry. I’m tired. We’re in the room breaking episode 12.) Point is, I’m proud of Meredith that she got as far as she did. And I love that last scene where she stands up to Derek. She doesn’t get drunk. She doesn’t freak out. She doesn’t walk away. She doesn’t ignore him. She doesn’t leave him. She just stands there and tells him her truth. And that is so so so hard and so so so scary for her (as it is for a lot of us.) And what I love most is the look of shock on her face when it works. It’s so hard to change. For everyone I know, change and growth are deeply difficult tasks. And so it makes me happy for Meredith and Derek that they are taking baby steps toward happiness and function. When we were shooting that scene, Ellen expressed concern to me about her question to Derek at the end. “You still love me?” She was concerned that it sent a message to the girls and women who watch our show that a man’s love is the thing that matters most. (But she didn’t say the girls and women who watch our show. She said “the future Coco’s of the world.” Cause Coco’s my daughter, and Ellen’s no dummy, she knows how to get a writer to listen!) But my feeling is this: I was not trying to say that a man’s love is what matters most. I was trying to say that the ability to know and trust that you (and by you I mean, me, Meredith, all of us) are lovable. To be willing to stand in your truth, stand in your vulnerability, stand in your fear, stand at your breaking point and hold on to yourself – that’s what matters. And that’s what surprises Meredith. She’s shocked that she’s allowed to be herself and someone loves her anyway. Those of us who grew up in the sometimes loving but sometimes terrifying and sometimes cataclysmic way that Meredith grew up? We sometimes need to learn, and need to be reminded, more than once, that we are lovable just as we are. Ellen got on board – and I thought she delivered the moment beautifully. Tell you what else I love in this episode: Alex. On the porch. When he says “Hello” to Izzie. I tell you, that Justin Chambers can do any freaking thing you throw at him. There was some discussion when the script came out of whether or not we should change that “Hello” to “Hi” which sounds more like Alex. But Justin? He pulled it off so beautifully. He made it sound like Alex and then some. The vulnerability under that one word... The subtlety… I just thought it was exquisite work. Speaking of psychology, which I wasn’t just now, I was speaking of Justin but I’ve learned that when you say “speaking of” something, people usually go with you. It’s lazy, but I’m tired so… Speaking of psychology, how ‘bout Cristina? (I’ve never sat around with my sister Jenn and diagnosed the characters on this show the way I’ve sat around with her diagnosing every member of my own family, but I bet that would be a fascinating conversation.) Cause we know there’s actually a good and caring person somewhere inside Cristina. I mean, she cares enough about Meredith to storm Wyatt’s office, right? And Wyatt gets right away how vulnerable she is. How scared she is. (Even if she can’t admit it) But still – she totally stole Izzie’s apartment! And she didn’t even mean to! Izzie thinks she’s being evicted, and Cristina somehow convinces herself that Izzie pulled that flyer off the wall for her! I love it. We’re currently breaking episode 12 of season 5 and I’ve been here since episode 1 of season 1 – and I never get tired of writing these characters. And you know why? It’s cause so many of them so badly need a good shrink! Derek, who’s generally a pretty great guy and who just promised Mer he’d take baby steps, assumes her roommates are moving out. Just assumes it – without even a discussion. I mean, seriously, entitled much??? Alex, who clearly still has feelings for Izzie, is as mean as he can be to her until the very end – when maybe he’s thinking his luck’s gonna turn. And even then, all he can say is hello. Mark Sloan, a double board certified ENT and plastic surgeon who normally doesn’t give the time of day to an intern, stops to listen to Lexie’s diagnosis. Which either makes him a better teacher than we thought or a guy who simply, physically cannot walk away when a pretty girl is talking (I’m still not sure which.) George is about to have some kind of actual breakdown in anticipation of his test (and it makes me giggle that the proctor finds him “a nice quiet room up in psych.”) Lexie is codependent to an almost pathological degree – turning down Sloan’s surgery so she can help George with the Chief’s scut. Izzie who is generally the happiest person we know, has ended up somehow all alone. Callie and Erica seem to be discovering some real truths about themselves pretty late in life. And the Chief? The Chief is basically watching while the hospital crumbles around him because his fear and pride won’t let him acknowledge that the hospital is crumbling around him! And Bailey – her lack of power is TORTURING HER. I love that little moment when she goes to the gallery to get a quiet moment and you can see her giving herself a tiny little talking to… I imagine her saying, “Do not quit! Do not tell the Chief to go screw himself! Do not say out loud ANY of what you’re thinking, Miranda Bailey!” And then of course the ceiling caves in giving her the ultimate vindication. I love these characters. I love the messiness and the layers and the fact that they absolutely refuse to behave or to “get all whole and healed,” as Meredith would say. I think if I wasn’t a writer, I’d be a shrink. Jenn and I could open a practice together and then sit around every night and laugh about how crazy everyone is. That would be fun. I have to add before I go how much I loved the guest stars in this episode. The actor Jim Ortlieb who played Jack O’Brien (get it? Jack O Brien. J.O.B. Job. Biblical. Whatever.) was so funny and subtle and heartbreaking and that lovely actress Samantha Quan who played Shelley… I watched them shoot that scene plus I’ve seen this episode 3 or 4 times now plus I wrote it and I still cry every time she breaks down at the unfairness of getting terminal cancer in your 20’s. And Daniel Travanti who played Mr. Patmore? His breakdown? Kills me every time. I did not expect that performance. I did not script that he would cry. I pictured something totally different. And then I got the dailies of that scene and it just wrecked me with it’s awesomeness. I love good actors. Yay, good actors! I am rambling. I get that. I’m tired, like I said. But I hope you liked this episode and I hope more than that that you had a lovely summer. Because life is weird and hard and scary sometimes. People are diagnosed with terminal cancer in their twenties and people get debilitating pain for reasons no one can diagnose and hospitals flood and ceilings collapse and lives fall apart, sometimes out of nowhere… So I hope very much that you are all enjoying the quieter moments, the moments in between the breaking points. I hope you kiss your kids a lot and tell your spouses and parents that you love them a lot and buy yourself flowers a lot for no good reason. I hope you love your life. And if for some reason you don’t or can’t – I hope you find a really good shrink like my sister Jenn or Dr. Wyatt. Cause therapy rocks. End of love letter. October 09, 2008 in Krista Vernoff ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Emerald City Bar Water, Water, Everywhere! Okay, times are pretty tough right now. For everybody. And, Seattle Grace is no exception. I mean, come on. First, it was all the crazy dreams. Then, came the #12 ranking. Next, an icicle impalement. And, now, A FREAKIN’ FLOOD?! Dude! Can’t SGH catch a break? Around here – I guess – when it rains, it pours! (hehe) So, yeah, it was literally raining all over the hospital today, after a (seemingly very important) pipe burst. I heard there was water everywhere. As a result of the fiasco, the ceiling in one of the OR’s collapsed! On a patient! Well, IN a patient, rather. Yikes. Not a very good day at Seattle Grace. No surprise, the bar was pretty crowded tonight. It seemed like everybody wanted to just… drown their sorrows or something. Speaking of which, can someone please tell me when Lexie started hanging out with Mark Sloan, of all people?? Are they friends? They’re just friends, right? Because I saw them drinking together tonight and it was all very, very strange. Lexopedia was reciting the periodic table and McSteamy was staring at her with just a little too much interest in his eyes. I have a feeling Lexie and Mark are about to get their own little couple-y nickname. Lerk? No. Marxie? No. Okay, leave your suggestions here… I would’ve asked Alex for some info about the whole Lexie/Mark thing, but the dude came in and ran right out when I told him Izzie had already left. Yeah – Izzie stormed out after she discovered that Cristina STOLE her apartment. How do you STEAL an apartment? Ask Cristina. Apparently Izzie found this awesome apartment with hardwood floors and a fireplace and, well, Cristina took it from her. When Izzie found out, I think it took everything she had to NOT KILL Cristina right then and there. Oh man, I’ve never seen Izzie so furious. When Alex came in, he asked where Izzie went, and I told him what happened. That’s when Alex – without even ordering a drink – left, too. He actually seemed to – GASP – care. Of course, Alex would never admit it, but it was obvious (to me) that he was concerned about Izzie’s feelings. Maybe Alex is changing after all… Changing for the better… I didn’t see Meredith tonight. I didn’t really expect I would. I guess Mer-Der have officially moved in together so they’re probably busy doing official moving in together things… Unpacking, redecorating, kicking out roommates… You know, the usual. Okay, folks, it’s about closing time and I guess George isn’t stopping by to celebrate his big day. Today was the day George was supposed to retake his intern exam and finally become a full-fledged resident. I even had a couple shots all ready for him… Some tequila, some vodka, some rum… Everything except, you know, water. But, I guess he was too tired or something because I haven’t seen him. Hope everything went okay… Guess I’ll find out in the morning. Until next time… -Joe the Bartender October 09, 2008 | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Nurse’s Station ... Debbie Does Seattle Grace Well, well… Look who’s decided to be all grown up and move in together? I mean, I KNEW this was coming. But what I did not know was Shepherd wants the “Breakfast Club” to move out. It’s funny that he thinks Meredith is ready to live with him all on her own. I mean, this is a big step for her. It would be a big step for anyone. I lived with a guy once: Stan, 1981. I met him at a Madonna concert. He had a Mohawk. A real one; not these weird faux hawks that these kids do nowadays because they don’t have the guts to shave their hair off. He was the real deal. Of course I had to ask him to leave once I caught him with my neighbor Gordon wearing leather chaps and nothing else, but I digress. My point is it’s a big step for a girl to move in with a guy. Usually, for the girl, it means this is it. She’s found the one she’s going to be with. She can breathe now. And for Meredith Grey to take such a huge step? Well, it means that Derek is the one but one has to be sure that he’s the one and why not have your friends there just to be sure? The man has more patience than anyone I’ve ever encountered. What successful, gorgeous, doctor that you know, would live with his girlfriend and her misfit friends? Exactly. Speaking of patience? When people whisper, it’s hard for me to eavesdrop and I hate having to contort my body into crazy positions to hear what’s going on. And I’m talking about Callie and Erica. WHAT IS GOING ON? The secret looks, the whispering. It’s rude. I mean I’m standing right here. And I can almost hear you, so either talk a little louder, or go somewhere and talk privately. Preferably, somewhere that has a hole or two in the wall so I can hear what’s going on. All I know is, it’s something to do with Sloan because Hahn is just annoyed whenever he comes around. I mean, really we all are usually annoyed with Sloan, but Hahn? She’s annoyed more than usual. Yeah, we all know that Torres and Sloan sleep together occasionally but why is Hahn so annoyed by him? Maybe she wants him too? Could be. Stranger things have happened. But, when I look at Hahn and Torres speaking in those hushed whispers, my first thought is “They’re a couple.” They really do act like it. Like a quarreling couple. I’m sure I’ll know more in the days to come. Speaking of whispering, I overheard the Chief tell Dr. Bailey that this flood is shutting down Seattle Grace so I’ve gotta go pack my personal items. Note to self: don’t forget penguin scrubs in the right hand drawer of Nurses’ station. They don’t make them anymore and I think the penguins compliment my new haircut. Until next time… October 09, 2008 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Intern Formerly Known as Steve The Girl Who Lived It’s been quite a ride. How are you holding up? Tired? Disoriented? Pupils dilated? Seeing purple? Does pizza taste to you like cotton candy smells? Time travel does that to people. Or so I’ve heard. Or read. In various science fiction comic books. Okay, Okay. I’ll admit it. I sent you on a journey through time when I myself have never actually time traveled. Minor detail I neglected to include on the invitation. But, hey, it was cool, right? You got to be a fly on the wall for the greatest cafeteria fight that never happened. You got to experience the wrath of Dr. Yang when woken by an intern with a medical question. You got to fill your nostrils with that beautiful hospital smell. You got to learn all about the Seriouslys, and catch a minor case of them yourself. Plus you got to be there for the forming of the greatest surgical intern band ever. Pretty rad. And you are still alive, right? Well, there is someone else who is still alive. Only she didn’t do any time traveling. And she wasn’t exactly supposed to live. Kind of like my good friend, Harry Potter. Except He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named didn’t cast the Avada Kedavra curse on her. The thing that was supposed to kill her didn’t come from an external force. It grew inside her. It made her lose control of her arm and her leg, and then the whole right side of her body. This thing inside of her was about to take her life when… Oh, have I not mentioned Dr. Derek Shepherd yet? Do you remember him? Or is your memory just a bit foggy from all that time traveling? Well, let me refresh your memory. Dr. Derek Shepherd: Neurosurgeon. Miracle Worker. Savior of humanity. You see Dr. Shepherd created this clinical trial. I might have mentioned it before. Okay, so I was OBSESSED with it. I followed it like Bostonians follow the Red Sox, like Trekies follow William Shatner, like that little boy in the French movie followed that red balloon. And following it, well, kind of changed my life. If I hadn’t followed it so closely, then in the epic battle between fear and curiosity that would take place in my head moments after encountering Dr. Shepherd in the hall, Captain Fear might have won out. If I hadn’t followed it so closely, I would never have mustered up the courage to stay and ask Dr. Shepherd if he had collected the correct combinations of X, Y, and Z for the viral cocktail. If I hadn’t followed it SO closely, Dr. Shepherd wouldn’t have been impressed by my knowledge of the viral cocktail and might never have popped…The Question. “Steve, why don’t you scrub in with me on the clinical trial tonight?” If someone gave me a time machine, like I generously gave you, and told me I could travel ANYWHERE, back to ANY time in my ENTIRE LIFE, I would choose THIS moment. I would freeze it, and live in it and in the events that followed. Over and over again. Because beginning in that moment, I got to live out every kid’s dream. And by every kid’s dream, I don’t mean that every kid dreams of brains. Some dream of space or chocolate factories. But when I was in Kindergarten and Mrs. Evans asked us where in the universe we wanted to go, I raised my hand and exclaimed “TO THE BRAIN!” You see, the brain is my outerspace; it is my chocolate factory. Only there are no Oompa Loompas and gravity sickness isn’t an issue. Today I got to hang with my Willie Wonka/Neil Armstrong, Dr. Derek Shepherd. I got to scrub in with him on perhaps the most groundbreaking clinical trial of all time. And that alone sent me flying through space. But when Beth Monroe, the girl who wasn’t supposed to live, opened her eyes and used the hand she’d lost control of to give me a thumbs up…Well, then I was walking on the moon. I helped save a life today. And maybe I wasn’t the one who came up with the viral cocktail combination or injected it into her brain, but I was there. I was asked to observe and to be a part of it all. And I will forever be grateful, and remember that moment. When I’m stuck doing SCUT. When I’m giving rectal exams. When I’m on my feet for twenty hours straight in a place with patients that complain and don’t always smell so good (as you now know). When I’ve gone three days without sleeping and I’m deep in the SGH slumps. When even a round of the game, Ya Coded, won’t cheer me up, I’ll remember this, and I’ll push forward. Because I helped save a life today. And maybe someday in the far off future, that someone—who creates groundbreaking clinical trials that save lives and allow the Beth Monroes of this world to see their grandkids graduate from college—will be me. Until then, I’m hijacking your time machine so I can relish in the moment. It’s 88 miles per/hour, right? Tuesday, 07 October 2008 Edited by oncetherewasaway, Nov 10 2008, 01:52 AM.

RECAPS & REVIEWS & RATINGS BUDDYTV Grey's Anatomy: Seattle's Fall From Grace - Friday, October 10, 2008 On Grey's Anatomy, it's bad enough that Seattle Grace Hospital has fallen from being one of the top teaching schools in the country to #12. What didn't help matters was a leak in the hospital that ended up turning into a flood. Dr. Bailey tried to warn Dr. Webber about the leaks throughout the hospital and get the surgical patients transported to area (and rival) hospitals like Mercy West and Seattle Presbyterian. Dr. Webber refused to listen though and put people's safety at risk. In order to turn things around, several things at Seattle Grace need to change and last night, Webber laid down the law and the new teaching protocol. Here are the new rules and who the affect at Seattle Grace. First, second, and third year residents will no longer be allowed to specialize. The practice interferes with the development of a fully rounded surgical education. This first rule, set forth by Dr. Webber, mainly affects Cristina Yang. It’s no secret around Seattle Grace that she’s looking to become a cardiothoracic surgeon, just like her lovers and mentors, Dr. Colin Marlowe and Dr. Preston Burke. However, Cristina prides herself on being the best so if Dr. Webber is looking for the best well rounded surgeon, she’ll do whatever it takes to make sure that she’s on the top of his list. Personal relationships, personal loyalties, and personal favorites will no longer be a factor in the training program. Attendings must spread their knowledge equally among all the residents. Attention will be refocused on patient communication and bedside manner. Dr. Webber made this clear, in his meeting, that he expects his doctors not to become overly emotionally involved with their patients and he’s talking to you, Izzie Stevens. Never mind the fact that she fell madly in love with Denny Duquette, a man dying of a serious heart condition. She is known for becoming emotionally attached to the people she takes care of and will have to learn to step back a little and act more professionally. A doctor cannot be somebody’s friend but good luck telling Meredith that. On last night’s episode, she spilled her entire personal life to a woman dying of cancer. Listen, my eye doctor is a pretty cool guy but I’m not going to ask him who he’s sleeping with. Where do these patients get off? This second rule also affects Meredith because Derek can no longer show her favortism because of her last name or how good she is in bed. Residents – your interns reflect on you. If they fail, you fail. If they succeed, you succeed. Attendings – that goes for residents as well. Teach with enthusiasm, learn with enthusiasm. Well, I guess in many ways, this affects all of the doctors at Seattle Grace. Perhaps the two worst teaching doctors are Cristina and Mark, who seem more annoyed by interns than interested in them. In terms of who will become great teachers, my money is on Bailey, Izzie, Callie, and hopefully George, who finally retook his exam last night and hopefully will finally become a resident. http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anat...aspx?cf=1048576 Grey's Anatomy: Episode 5.3 "Here Comes the Flood" Recap (Part 1/4) Thursday, October 09, 2008 Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) opens tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy with Dr. Wyatt. She thinks she's finished with therapy because Derek's all moved in and she's happy about it. Way to make your entire life about a man, Mer. Dr. Wyatt knows better and says that although she's made a lot of progress, she's not done. But Meredith's all, "See ya! Wouldn't want to be ya!" Back at the ranch, Derek (Patrick Dempsey) is indeed all moved in and pretty much taking over the place. He goes into Izzie's bedroom and starts planning out his new office after she and Alex move out. Wow, what a McDouchebag. This is news to Izzie and Alex (Justin Chambers). Meredith hasn't quite decided what she wants to do, however. Izzie (Katherine Heigl) bribes her with home-baked muffins anyway...............there’s more http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anat...here-23482.aspx ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CHICAGO TRIBUNE ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CINEMA BLEND TV Recap: Grey's Anatomy - Here Comes the Flood- 2008-10-10 00:55:27 The Chief shakes things up The Chief shakes things up with his new teaching protocol, Derek's douchebag tendencies begin to manifest once again, Meredith dumps her psychologist and struggles with a decision between her friends and her boyfriend, and George finally gets to take his residency test again. All in all, an exciting episode! Lots of what I love about Grey's Anatomy and very little of what I hate. Meredith fires her therapist, figuring that her emotional progress and relative happiness means that she's healed. Dr. Wyatt disagrees, but Meredith ain't hearing it. Izzy gets out of the shower and finds Derek casing out her room to turn into his new study in the expectation that she and Alex will be moving out "soon". All three confront Meredith - all wondering why she has ......cont’d http://www.cinemablend.com/television/TV-R...lood-12718.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- EW.COM EW - TV Watch 'Grey's Anatomy': So Happy Together - Oct 10, 2008 A seemingly happy Meredith considers making a big concession for Derek, while the hospital is literally falling down all around her Wow, this was kind of a "wackiness ensues" episode, wasn't it? I mean, we learned important lessons about life and love and the pitfalls of leaky ceilings, plus some people had cancer and serious stuff, but generally, this had all kinds of highjinks. And, naturally, this was the episode I decided to share with my Grey's Anatomy-virgin male suitor, who had such keen insights as, "I hate all of these people." Of course, even those of us who have hung on every minute of every episode hate all of them, but we do so with love, like hating one's mother but not wanting others to hate her. Point being, this wasn't the best sampling of the show to exemplify why I actually do think it's a damn well-done .........cont’d http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20232295,00.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LA TIMES 'Grey’s Anatomy': Flooding with emotion - Oct 10 2008 After a season premiere packed with faux shocks -- Derek proposes marriage! Rose is carrying Derek’s baby! Derek dies! –– last night’s “Grey’s Anatomy” wisely focused on the realities of life at Seattle Grace, where changes worth making take time and the things that are broken are not so easily fixed. The episode began with Meredith, true to form, trying to wiggle her way out of a relationship -- though this time it was with her therapist (the always fab Amy Madigan). She’s back together with Derek, she’s happy (or at least as happy as Meredith is capable of being), so she must be cured, right? Derek is similarly deluded: He thinks now that he’s moved in with Meredith, she’ll do the mature thing and ask Izzie and Alex to, you know, move out. “That was your life,” he told her, after whipping out the tape measure in Izzie’s room, which he envisioned as his home office, and turning on the full force of his McDreamyness. “This is our life. And I’m excited about building our life together.” ....... there’s more http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracke...-anatomy-f.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MSNBC Floods drive ‘Grey's’ docs to breaking point - Thurs., Oct. 9, 2008 Water is everywhere, and it’s not all from Meredith crying this time Forty days and nights of melodrama: A plumbing crisis that flooded the hospital served as a handy metaphor for systems under stress. George’s retake of his intern exam was interrupted by a leaky ceiling, and the rising water challenged the Chief just when he was introducing tough new rules designed to pull Seattle Grace out of its twelfth-place ranking. (Fair warning: Many of those rules amount to variations on “don’t be a jerk, and stop dragging your personal problems into everything,” so if they are followed, the show may be cancelled shortly.) At home, Meredith bristled at Derek’s demand that Alex and Izzie move out of her house when he moves in. This, in turn, ramped up the hostility between Alex and Izzie after Alex made it clear that he didn’t intend to live with Izzie if they were thrown out. In the end, though, Meredith took a stand in favor of keeping her “family” with her, and Derek caved. Tune in for next week’s episode of “Four’s Company.” ...................... read on http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27092301/ MSNBC - Grey’s Gossip, Weekly udate ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW YORK MAGAZINE Devouring Culture Vulture ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV GUIDE Grey's Anatomy: Episode Recap: "Here Comes the Flood" - Oct 10, 2008 This week Meredith got her first dose of what life will be like living under the same roof with Derek and the change just might cost her some friends. Meanwhile, the Chief gets serious about laying down a few new rules at the hospital, Erica gets testy over her new relationship with Callie and George struggles to find the time (and a place) to take his exam. Wasting no time at all, Derek has already begun moving into Mer's place and he has some shocking news for her roommates, they've got to go! As Alex and Izzie process this new turn of events, Meredith finds herself stuck in the middle. Can she really kick her friends out for Derek? You can clearly see she doesn't want to, but in true Mer fashion she seeks out Cristina for her input. The only trouble is, now that Cristina is being the "supportive friend," she feels like she can't really speak her mind. Back at Seattle Grace, the Chief held a meeting to let everyone know life as they know it is about to change. No more special favors for friends in the OR and no more getting emotionally involved with patients. True to his word, the Chief starts shaking things up by reassigning the docs to different cases to move them out of their comfort zone and to hopefully help them learn something new. Though as we saw this week, the Chief's new rules didn't exactly work as Meredith (in a rare moment) found herself becoming emotionally involved with one of Izzie's former patients............more http://www.tvguide.com/Episode-Recaps/grey...sode-20162.aspx Ask Matt: - Oct 10, 2008 Question: Why is everybody getting their knickers in a twist over whether or not a couple (Meredith and Derek) are going to be together forever? It would be one thing to expect it if, like some other shows, Grey's Anatomy had an end date. Since the show is still open-ended, most absolutes need to be open-ended. I don't love or hate Meredith and Derek, but I think Shonda Rhimes was right to say they were going to get together to stay for now. I was getting very weary of the "getting together, only to immediately split apart, only to immediately get back together." It was time for the writers to either put them together or split them up and mean it for the foreseeable future. However, there may come a time when a TV couple will be more interesting apart than they are together. If it is done well and results in a great, character-progressing story (rather than stirring things up just to stir and then return to normal), then even if it is a couple I love, it can still be worth watching. It is valid not to want to be jerked around, and it is also valid to want the show to own a thought. But to want a guarantee for any couple until the end of the run is not only unreasonable, it could stifle future creativity. Time to relax and be glad the show is going to tell the story of Meredith and Derek for now. — Karen L. Matt Roush: All excellent points, and all of which underscores my ongoing philosophy that we shouldn't judge a show before we actually see how things play out. On the one hand, we have suffered through some very unfortunate periods of Grey's Anatomy, and some of the back-and-forth regarding the core couple has been aggravating, so I can understand the skepticism and cynicism. Just doesn't mean I have to approve of or agree with it. On a similar note, Claire writes: "Thank you for your responses to the Grey's 'for now' nonsense. I agree it's silly and I don't get the hatred towards Shonda. She created the characters 'fans' claim they love, Meredith and Derek fans are getting their payoff this season, and so on. The drama on Grey's has always been delivered through the relationships since the start of the show, so I'm not getting why some would expect this to change. Just because a creator doesn't deliver the story some conjure up in their heads doesn't make her evil. I also believe a creator can change her story in the future as she see fit. It's her story to tell. I say sit back, watch, relax and enjoy the story, especially at the start of a new season. On to better things: I am in love with Mad Men! I was wondering if there has been any confirmation for a season three yet. I am really hoping that AMC will bring the show back despite the low ratings. I just can't get enough of this show!" No confirmation of a third Mad Men season just yet, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time (and working out the deal). No way does AMC let an Emmy-winning best drama get away. And I couldn't agree more about the tone of the personal attacks delivered against those who've created the shows that engage our passions. Which leads me to the next question: Question: I am writing in response to the fervor over Shonda Rhimes' comments about her show. I can definitely understand the frustration of the fans, and can see why they feel lied to (I myself do not watch Grey's Anatomy, so I was unaffected by the hubbub). However, it appears that fans have really lost faith in the people who run their shows. I have noticed in the past few years that more and more fans feel they should have a say in how the narratives of their favorite shows progress. The first time I noticed was when Vaughn was supposed to die on Alias, and since then, fan outrage appears more and more influential in how the show runners structure a storyline. I'm sure it must be a result of mass rant sessions on the Internet, but I fear that it has a detrimental effect on the quality of the shows. Thinking back to several of my faves, I was devastated when Fred died on Angel, but that led to the extraordinary Illyria story arc. I would have been opposed to killing Tara on Buffy, but then Willow would not have gone dark. I was emotionally disturbed and against the Dexter/Lila relationship, which turned out to be entirely necessary for wrapping up the Doakes storyline and leading Dexter to his new "calling." I should note, I don't mean to say that show runners never make poor decisions on their own, just that an increasing number of poor decisions appear to be driven by a fear of upsetting the audience, which I believe is a mistake, because we don't always know what is best for us or what will result in the most interesting storytelling. What are your thoughts? Does the audience hold more pull on television than previously, and if so, do you see this as a positive or negative change? — Katelyn Matt Roush: The creator-fan relationship is a very complicated issue and I don't pretend to understand how show runners truly regard the fan feedback they get on the Web or otherwise — and that extends to the critical community as well, I suppose. But I have to hope that they can put it all in perspective, the fawning as well as the sniping, and focus on telling the stories they want to tell without losing sleep over the knee-jerk responses that come with the territory. I appreciate your well-chosen examples of how arcs that at first appear to be very risky or damaging to a show can ultimately result in some of their most memorable moments. I would hate to think that Internet "flaming" would have a chilling effect on show-runners, inhibiting them from taking the leaps of faith necessary to take their shows to that proverbial next level, even at the risk of occasional failure. http://www.tvguide.com/Roush/Ask-Matt-Analyzing-20161.aspx ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV SQUAD Grey's Anatomy: Here Comes the Flood - Oct 10th 2008 8:05AM (S05E03) "Yeah yeah - the hair. It's one of the many things that makes me happy." - Meredith This wasn't the best episode of Grey's Anatomy, but I think it got back to a lot of the core reasons that made this show good in the first place. The focus has finally returned to Meredith and Derek, which was sorely lacking last season. This show just doesn't make sense to me when the tension between those two is ignored or pushed aside for one of the bajillion other relationships going on. Beyond that, there was plenty of humor - another thing that had been lacking. So I'm feeling good about where this season is going to take us and as I said - it starts with Mer and Der. McDreamy is officially moved in with Meredith now and after getting through one minor conflict (do the roommates stay or get kicked out), it seems like they're doing OK. However, if we've learned one thing about these two, you know they'll be getting into it next week about something entirely different......................... more to read http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/10/10/greys-an...omes-the-flood/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- USA TODAY ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ZAP2IT 'Grey's Anatomy': Fixing what's broken - October 09, 09:08 PM Of all the people on Grey's Anatomy who should be in therapy -- and that's pretty much everyone -- it's hard to argue that anyone needs it more than Meredith. Which is why I was so happy to see that she's been going (and also because it means we get to see more of the great Amy Madigan). And why I was so bummed to see her try to graduate herself this week. Because she's "happy." Please. Floods of spoilers coming... You're not done, Meredith, Dr. Wyatt tells her. It's good that you're happy, and good that your relationship is moving forward, but that's not the point. You're making progress and you're working hard, but you're not done. No kidding. Aren't doctors always telling you not to stop taking the blood pressure/depression/cholesterol medicine just because you feel better? Come on, Mer -- stay in therapy for us. .............cont’d http://blog.zap2it.com/ithappenedlastnight...-anatomy-f.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- [color] [/color] Blame It On the Rain - 2008.10.09 The impossible has happened -- Derek has actually moved in! However, he assumes that this means that Meredith is kicking out Izzie and Alex, which Izzie learns when she finds Derek measuring her bedroom to become his office. For someone who just came from living in a trailer, I'd think he'd appreciate just having a living room where he couldn't touch the opposite walls at the same time, at least for a little while. But this sends Izzie down into the dumps, which isn't helped by the fact that Alex is still being mean to her. Derek even tries to get Cristina on his side, but though she admits she would kick the other two out, she gets mad at him for the little ploy. She goes and talks to Dr. Amy (Meredith earlier announced that she was all better and finished with therapy) and begs Dr. Amy to tell Meredith she still needs help. Mere and Dr. A then meet in the elevator for some touching words about how she's doing better but she isn't finished with needing therapy. Amen! ...............there’s more http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/show/...s_the_flood.php RATINGS 'Grey's Anatomy' hits ratings low - October 10, 2008 How did the new shows last night do with the viewers? First we have to look at how some old favorites fared. According to USA TODAY's Gary Levin, CSI's season opener, with 23 million viewers, trounced Grey's Anatomy's second episode with 14.5 million, a series low for Grey's. The premieres of ABC's Life on Mars and CBS' Eleventh Hour tied at 11.6 million viewers apiece, according to Nielsen, though Mars took the edge among young-adult viewers and retained 80% of Grey's overall lead-in audience compared to just 50% for Hour, which lost 2 million viewers at its halfwaymark. Kath & Kim had a decent second-place opening with 7.5 million, building off its My Name is Earl lead-in. http://blogs.usatoday.com/entertainment/20...y-h.html?csp=34 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited by oncetherewasaway, Oct 20 2008, 03:55 PM.

DATES TO REMEMBER & OTHER STUFF Studios' 'final offer' safe for now - Oct 6, 2008 Despite economy, SAG has time -- but not much When the AMPTP made what it calls its final offer to SAG on June 30, it came with a caution: The offer would remain on the table unless there's a drastic change in the economy. With Wall Street plunging, that day may be here. Since the June 30 offer was made, Disney shares have fallen 9% -- and that's by far the least of the bunch. In that same frame, CBS is off 33%, News Corp. is down 29%, Time Warner is down 24%, and Viacom is off 23%. Sources with the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers said Monday that the offer will remain intact -- at least until Oct. 18, when the newly realigned SAG national board meets and votes on whether to bring a strike authorization vote to its membership. If members are asked to give the board strike authorization, the AMPTP is likely to wait until the results of that vote are in. What that means to the industry is that the current stalemate between SAG and the AMPTP is likely to continue for weeks and could extend into November.......................cont’d http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/conten...9c7a38299b4e160 more strike-ish news http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/conten...7449768845b6815 Actor posting his thoughts as an extra.......can anyone figure out what ep they are filming right now????? http://bradyoung.livejournal.com/ Edited by oncetherewasaway, Nov 10 2008, 01:51 AM.
