Meredith: [voice over] We all remember the bedtime stories of our childhoods. The shoe fits Cinderella, the frog turns into a prince, Sleeping Beauty is awakened with a kiss. Once upon a time, and then they lived happily ever after. Fairy tales, the stuff of dreams. The problem is, fairy tales don't come true. It's the other stories, the ones that begin with 'dark and stormy nights' and end in the unspeakable. It's the nightmares that always seem to become reality. The person who invented the phrase 'happily ever after' should have his a.ss kicked so hard! Meredith: [voice over] Once upon a time, happily ever after. The stories we tell are the stuff of dreams. Fairy tales don't come true. Reality is much stormier. Much murkier. Much scarier. Reality. It's so much more interesting than living happily ever after. 5.01 ~ 5.02 – Dream a Little Dream of Me ABC PRESS RELEASE Monday, September 08, 2008ABC Television NetworkThis DocumentPrint (note: To use this function, upgrade your browser: "Quick Download" A FREAK ICE STORM NOT ONLY BRINGS TRAUMA PATIENTS TO SEATTLE GRACE, IT BRINGS A MYSTERIOUS MILITARY DOCTOR AS WELL, AND MEREDITH AND DEREK BEGIN LIFE AFTER "HAPPILY EVER AFTER," ON THE TWO-HOUR SEASON PREMIERE OF ABC'S "GREY'S ANATOMY" Kevin McKidd ("Rome," "Made of Honor") Guest Stars as Major Owen Hunt Bernadette Peters, Kathy Baker and Mariette Hartley Guest Star "Dream a Little Dream of Me" - On the two-hour season premiere of "Grey's Anatomy," Meredith and Derek learn that "happily ever after" isn't easy, a military doctor who brings in a trauma patient catches Cristina's eye, and the Chief and his staff reel at the news that Seattle Grace is no longer nationally ranked as a top-tier teaching hospital, on "Grey's Anatomy," THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network "Grey's Anatomy" stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Patrick Dempsey as Derek Shepherd, Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang, Katherine Heigl as Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, T.R. GUEST STARS DIVA TALK: Catching Up with Tony Winner and "Living Proof" Star Bernadette Peters - Oct 18, 2008 News, views and reviews about the multi-talented women of the musical theatre and the concert/cabaret stage. BERNADETTE PETERS It was an exceptionally busy summer for two-time Tony Award winner Bernadette Peters, who also recently added best-selling children's author (for the Blue Apple Books tome "Broadway Barks") to her lengthy list of accomplishments. Peters, who spent the summer touring her concert act to several cities throughout the country, also filmed an emotional and critically acclaimed guest appearance on the season premiere of the ABC hit "Grey's Anatomy" and a role in the powerful new Lifetime film "Living Proof," which debuts Oct. 18 at 9 PM ET.........keep reading http://www.playbill.com/news/article/122400.html Can Bernadette Peters finally win an Emmy for 'Grey's Anatomy' guest spot? - Sep 26, 2008 Thirty years after she picked up the first of her two Emmy nominations, could Bernadette Peters finally win for her guest spot on last night's premiere of "Grey's Anatomy"? Joining her as patients at Seattle Grace were a pair of Emmy-winning actresses: triple champ Kathy Baker ("Picket Fences") and surprise winner Mariette Hartley ("The Incredible Hulk"). Maureen Ryan, TV critic for the Chicago Tribune, said, "Bernadette Peters has an excellent guest turn as one of three women who undergo personal and medical crises" while Misha Davenport, her counterpart at the Chicago Sun-Times, thought, "The scenes between Baker and Peters are exceptionally moving, and fans will want to have a tissue or two handy for the inevitable waterworks." And Matt Roush of TV Guide wrote, "Peters is especially fine as she confronts a life spinning out of control. I’d make her an early contender for a guest-actor Emmy nomination." Four women have already earned guest actress nods for their appearances on this scrubs and suds drama: double nominee Kate Burton, Christina Ricci, Elizabeth Reaser and another Broadway baby -- Tony winner Diahann Carroll. While Peters made her first dramatic TV appearance half a century ago, she is best known for her belting on Broadway. She has won two of seven Tony nods ("Song and Dance," 1986 and "Annie Get Your Gun," 1999) and sung on four Grammy-winning cast recordings. http://goldderby.latimes.com/awards_goldde...ys-anatomy.html ________________________________ Kevin McKidd as Owen Mariette Hartley as Betty Lauren Stamile as Rose Cliff DeYoung as Phil John Getz as Michael Bernadette Peters as Sarabeth Kathy Baker as Anna. News of McDonnell’s “Grey’s” gig first broke on Galactica Sitrep. SPOILERFIX SPOILAGE Filming Resumed June 25 Grey's Anatomy Spoilers Grey's Anatomy is currently on hiatus. The series was renewed for a fifth season. Episodes 5.01 and 5.02: Dream a Little Dream of Me, Parts 1 & 2 (Season premiere) Airdate: September 25, 2008 from 9 to 11 p.m. * new 09/17 - [Kevin] McKidd is dashingly heroic: After getting injured in a car wreck during an ice storm, he performs a tracheotomy with a pen in an ambulance. (Yang finds this mighty impressive.) "Owen is a maverick," McKidd says. "He doesn't care about what people think or about being liked." Source: TV Guide http://www.spoilerfix.com/grey.php * new 09/11 - I can confirm that two of the following take place in the Sept. 25 season premiere -- one for real and the other in Meredith's imagination (the other two are outright foilers). A. Rose stabs Derek. B. Derek suffers a heart attack and is visited by the ghost of Denny. C. Dr. Burke returns to Seattle Grace and shoots Derek in the face before turning the gun on himself. D. In a flashback, we learn that Derek got into a car accident shortly after leaving Meredith in the candle field. [...] Don't be surprised if the season premiere leaves you a little, um, Lost. [...] A flash-forwardish sequence will show us what two characters might be up to several years in the future. Source: The Ausiello Files * new 09/11 - A son and his mother operate together. A woman argues with another woman who has to pee. A 50-year-old man can't move his legs after he got into a car accident. The doctor treating him isn't sure he'll be able to walk again. The doctor will put the male patient under cooling blankets to almost freeze his body. His wife discovers that he lost his job and that they are in financial trouble. A passenger was thrown out of the car and has yet to be brought to the ER. Source: SpoilerFix.com * 09/09 - Meredith and Derek learn that "happily ever after" isn't easy, a military doctor who brings in a trauma patient catches Cristina's eye, and the Chief and his staff reel at the news that Seattle Grace is no longer nationally ranked as a top-tier teaching hospital. Guest starring Kevin McKidd as Owen, Mariette Hartley as Betty, Lauren Stamile as Rose, Cliff DeYoung as Phil, John Getz as Michael, with Bernadette Peters as Sarabeth and Kathy Baker as Anna. Source: ABC * 07/20 - Fan favorite Denny Duquette, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, is returning to ABC's medical drama. Source: The Hollywood Reporter * 07/12 - Rose is no shrinking violet when it comes to getting McDumped by McDreamy. Given the cozy, candle-burning climax of Grey's Anatomy's season finale, it's no big surprise that Lauren Stamile's run as Derek's squeeze may be nearing its end. But the typically oh-so-nice nurse won't be scrubbed out quietly. Sources tell that when Rose is excised from the superstar surgeon's love life, though she plays it cool with Mer, she is far from Zen about the whole thing with the boyfriend. "I'd count on at least one emotional outburst," previews a setsider. "Rose is not her usual composed self with Derek." What's more, although as recently as this afternoon the talk was that Stamile would only appear in the two-hour season opener, there are now rumblings that Rose may remain a thorn in the supercouple's side just a tiny bit longer. Source: TV Guide Online * 07/12 - There will be a slight time lapse between the finale and the premiere. We're talking more than a few days and less than a month. There's a rumor going around that Callie will start off the season with a little McSteamy in the oven, but a reliable Grey's insider insists it's "not true." Source: The Ausiello Files ----------------------------------------------------------------------- General Spoilers: Grey's Anatomy Spoilers - Updated on September 18, 2008 General Spoilers: * new 09/18 - Callie is definitely not pregnant. [.] Lexie and George don't have a romance this season that's a major storyline (at least, not in the first part of the season); however, two other doctors we love will be hooking up, and it is most definitely major. Source: Kristin on E!Online * new 09/18 - There's an awesome, awkward, totally endearing scene between [Callie and Erica] at the end of the premiere. Sara Ramirez, in particular, is just fantastic. Meanwhile, looking ahead, there's buzz that Callica http://www.spoilerfix.com/grey.php * new 09/11 - [Derek] finally ditches the trailer. "He is going to come and live in my house," [Ellen] Pompeo reveals. "And that becomes a problem. He tries to say I have to throw my roommates out. And I consider it." Lexie falls for an oblivious George. And after putting her through the emotional wringer last season, [Shonda] Rhimes says Bailey will find a better balance of work and marriage. Source: TV Guide * new 09/11 - Although [Kevin] McKidd's status is technically still recurring, I'll be shocked if he isn't made a full-time regular by the end of the season. Shonda Rhimes is apparently doing cartwheels over his work thus far. [...] L Word alum Janina Gavankar is joining the cast of Grey's Anatomy as an intern. Meanwhile, relative newcomer Brandon Scott (Cold Case) is also checking into Seattle Grace as a junior McDreamy. [...] Gavankar and Scott will start off as recurring players. Source: The Ausiello Files * 08/28 - [Dr. Addison Montgomery] may take another trip back to Seattle Grace sometime in the middle of the season, hints executive producer Shonda Rhimes. "I don't know if it's going to work with the story, and we don't want her to come back for a visit if it doesn't feel important, something only Addison can do," says Rhimes. "But the idea is on the table." Source: Entertainment Weekly * 08/24 - "Do you want to move in?" [Meredith] asks. Of course [Derek] does, but after four seasons of she-loves-me, she-loves-me-not, Derek replies the only way he can: "Are you sure?" [...] "The first three episodes start the dynamic of where we are all going," reports Patrick Dempsey. "Meredith is trusting him and moving forward cautiously, and Derek is waiting there, saying, 'I'm here to support you.'" [... Kevin McKidd] who starred in last season's time-travel drama Journeyman [...] will be hanging around Seattle for at least 22 episodes. He plays a new character, brash Army surgeon Owen Hunt, who arrives at the emergency room after an auto accident. On the way to the hospital, he saves the other crash victims in the back of the ambulance. Derek, who is unaware of Hunt's heroism, gets up in his business when the rugged redhead interferes with one of his patients. "Who the hell are you?" he barks, later calling the soldier on leave from Iraq "Uncle Sam." [...] It's clear McKidd hasn't been brought aboard just to be McDreamy's worst nightmare. Love, or at least some steamy sex, seems to be in the air for Cristina Yang, who spent most of last season being depressed and mean while she got over Burke. In the first episode, Cristina most certainly gets her flirt on, giving Hunt's leg wound some extra-special attention. "He and Cristina definitely have a moment, which plays out not as we'd all expect," [Shonda] Rhimes says. "But, then, things never do." [...] Izzie's got a love story -- and it's a big one. [...] George and Lexie's love story is going to take an incredibly unexpected turn. See, Lexie loves George. She loves him. And George, so focused on finally getting another shot at being a resident, doesn't even see that she loves him. It happened while he was looking the other way. [...] Callie and Erica have a love story of their own. And, yes, it includes Mark. [... Mark is] finally going to get [a love interest.] Source: TV Guide * 08/24 - Many of the medical stories this season involve couples whose relationships could shed light on Meredith and Derek's situation. In one case, when a wife throws a remote control at her man, the resulting examination of his skull reveals a tumor. Source: Kristin on E!Online * 08/13 - Chief Webber is going to be whipping the staff into shape when the hospital starts to slip in the national rankings as one of the best teaching hospitals in the country. Source: Kristin on E!Online * 08/13 - An upcoming episode will find some of our favorite residents wandering over to Seattle Grace's never-before-seen dermatology department -- and they will not be happy with what they find. Namely, the kind of posh work environment more consistent with a five-star spa than a hospital. Source: The Ausiello Files * 07/20 - Things are going to be... awkward... between the [Callie and Erica] when Grey's returns. Source: TV Guide Online * 07/12 - ABC is not officially confirming the news yet, but reliable sources tell me that Rome-ing Journeyman Kevin McKidd has just signed on the dotted line to join ABC's Grey's Anatomy for its upcoming season. Playing a surgeon who arrives at Seattle Grace fresh from a tour of duty in Iraq, McKidd will first be (barely) glimpsed during the two-hour season premiere. McKidd's character, by some accounts, ultimately will play doctor with Cristina, who has been nursing a broken heart and a seriously bruised ego ever since you-know-who didn't stop talking skedaddled out of Seattle a season ago. Source: TV Guide Online * 06/14 - I hear someone may be preggers - and that someone shared a red-hot smooch in the finale! Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide * 01/10 - Someone - and a major someone at that - wants to be discharged from Seattle Grace, and STAT. But, as far as I can tell, that someone is not Sandra Oh. SCOOP-AGE & OTHER TRICKSTERS The Ausiello Files Exclusive: 'Grey's Anatomy' Enlists 'Alias' Badass to Play Callica Spoiler - Sep 25, 2008 At this rate, the bisexuals will soon outnumber the straights at Seattle Grace. Sources confirm to me exclusively that ex-Alias vixen Melissa George is in final negotiations to join the cast of Grey's Anatomy as an intern with, um, an open mind toward sexuality. To wit, I'm told she's being groomed as a potential love interest for one of Grey's other two burgeoning bis, Callie (Sara Ramirez) or Erica (Brooke Smith). (That noise you hear is Callica fans sticking pins in their Shonda Rhimes voodoo doll.*) A Grey's insider tells me George was initially going to be introduced by way of a gurney, but rumor has it Shonda Rhimes was so enamored with the ex-In Treatment star that she tweaked the role to give it more long-term potential. Of course, it's also possible the patient thing was just a decoy to throw off spoiler hunters like myself -- in which case, I'm on to you, Rhimes! George's probable hiring caps a busy couple of weeks for Grey's casting honchos. In addition to The L Word's Janina Gavankar and up-and-comer Brandon Scott checking in as new interns, Battlestar Galactica's inimitable Mary McDonnell has sealed a deal to play a doctor for a multi-episode arc. http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/09/meliss...mment-132269580 --------------------------- Ask Ausiello:September 23, 2008 uestion: By now you should be able to tell us: Is there a baby in the mix in Grey's or not? -- Virginia Ausiello: Not in tomorrow's two-hour premiere there's not. http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/09/ask-ausiello--3.html The Ausiello Files - Sep 16, 2008, 11:42 PM Question: Do you have any inside info on what season 5 of Grey's Anatomy holds for Izzie and Alex? Their chemistry is great. -- Traci Ausiello: Let's just say you'll have a really good idea where these two are headed by the end of the two-hour opener on Sept. 25 -- which, BTW, I just watched and really enjoyed. Turns out Kevin McKidd is all that and a bag of chips. Question: What's going on with Grey's Anatomy's Callica (Callie and Erica)?! -- Ally Ausiello: There's an awesome, awkward, totally endearing scene between the two of them at the end of the premiere. Sara Ramirez, in particular, is just fantastic. Meanwhile, looking ahead there's buzz that Callica may not be the only members of Seattle Grace's rapidly expanding LGBT community. Although I haven't been able to confirm this, there's a rumor going around that when the casting call for the new female intern went out last month, interested parties were told they had to be comfortable making out with both men and women. Coincidence then that the actress who got the role hails from The L Word? Only time will tell! Question: How about some Grey's Anatomy scoop on someone other than Mer-Der or Yang-Hunt? -- CB Ausiello: The show is casting the role of a female patient who develops a multi-episode crush on one of the docs. My guess: We're looking at a potential new love interest for McSteamy. http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/09/ask-au...lo--2.html#more ------------------------------ Grey’s Scoop from Ausiello - September 10th, 2008 Can you tell me if Derek gets hurt in the Grey’s Anatomy season premiere? Judging by that infamous promo, ABC certainly wants you to think that, right? Well, allow me to clear things up for you — by way of a multiple-choice quiz! (Why should ABC’s promo department have all the fun?) I can confirm that two of the following take place in the Sept. 25 season premiere — one for real and the other in Meredith’s imagination (the other two are outright foilers). A) Rose stabs Derek. B) Derek suffers a heart attack and is visited by the ghost of Denny. C) Dr. Burke returns to Seattle Grace and shoots Derek in the face before turning the gun on himself. D) In a flashback, we learn that Derek got into a car accident shortly after leaving Meredith in the candle field. Please tell me Cristina’s new love interest on Grey’s Anatomy (a.k.a. Kevin McKidd) is here to stay! His first episode hasn’t even aired yet — how do you know the two of them are any good together? Have you seen a rough cut of the premiere or something? If so, how ’bout you burn me a copy on the DL? In return, I’ll share with you some good news: Although McKidd’s status is technically still recurring, I’ll be shocked if he isn’t made a full-time regular by the end of the season. Shonda Rhimes is apparently doing cartwheels over his work thus far. Literally doing cartwheels. My Grey’s mole saw her doing one in the parking lot last Thursday. Anything else on Grey’s Anatomy? Don’t be surprised if the season premiere leaves you a little, um, Lost. No, the Chief isn’t going to turn the donkey wheel in the basement and make Seattle Grace disappear. Rather, a flash forwardish sequence will show us what two characters might be up to several years in the future. --------------------------- Ask Ausiello Sep 3, 2008, 12:35 AM | by Michael Ausiello Question: I just saw the new promo for Grey's Anatomy in which Rose says she is carrying Derek's baby. WTF? -- Courtney Ausiello: WTF is right. That promo caused quote the little firestorm over at ABC yesterday. Not only did it incur the wrath of millions of Rose-weary Mer-Der fans, but it essentially branded one of the network's most valuable assets (i.e. Shonda Rhimes) a big ol' liar. You see, in her ABC podcast that followed the show's finale last May, Rhimes assured fans that Grey's would not be employing any soap operatic stunts to pull Derek and Meredith apart this season -- and she specifically ruled out knocking up Rose. But someone apparently forgot to pass that bit of information on to the folks cutting together that incendiary clip. As a result, Rhimes has been forced to do the unthinkable: Issue an exclusive statement to me that basically denies the very plot twist that ABC shamelessly tried to dangle before us. "I would not deceive our fans," Rhimes tells me, "especially those loyal enough to listen to our podcast." Long story short: The only thing Rose will be carrying in the season premiere is a third wheel. --------------------------- --------------------------- --------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ask or Watch with Kristen Anatomy Dissection: Couples News Nobody Knows! - Thu., Sep. 25, 2008 OK, show of hands. Whoa, whoa, whoa. You mean my man Kevin McKidd? I have loved him since before Caesar Augustus died in Rome in freak.ing something or other B.C., OK? So back off, ma.ma! Ahem, anyway? He is awesome. He is actually my most favoritest part of the Grey's premiere and leaves me so weak-kneed and apparently weak-tongued that I can't even use proper grammar. (Help!) I think you will adore the interaction between "Major Hottie" (McKidd) and Cristina. He plays a no-BS Army doctor who is so raw and tough and dirty and...Don't make me go on 'cause my husband may be reading, but suffice to say that if he were to return later in the season, you would have good reason to watch and rewatch every episode of this series. [One caveat and a plea to Shonda Rhimes: Make that Major Hottie shave his newfound facial hair. Stat!] Ryan in Atlanta: Yay! Grey's is back this week! Do spill! Sir, yes sir! Gladly. I've seen this Thursday's two-hour premiere and let me tell you, it is good to have our Seattle Grace friends back—and also good to see that those promos ABC temporarily released (Rose being pregnant; Derek dying) really weren't true and not a big part of the storyline at all. The episode is solid, and I'll share what I can (without having to enter witness protection) in the Spoiler Section below. Wanda2Saints: What can you tell us about the Grey's premiere? Where things are left off with Alex and Izzie at the end of the season premiere are not indicative as to what lies ahead this season. (Remember that so you know what I'm saying after you watch the episode.) Also, one of the docs gets stabbed and Sandra Oh rants at Meredith with something some of you fans have been wanting to say for a while now: "Shut up about Derek!" It is an awesome scene. Look for it. Randall in Ithaca, N.Y.: Is Lauren Stamile really gone for good after the premiere? Please say yes! Yes. And you will see why in the season premiere—she has a weird Dexter-like moment. http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with...greys_more.html --------------------------- Grey's Anatomy: Season Five by Five Today 5:13 PM PDT by Kristin Dos Santos Get five sneak-preview vids of the fifth-season premiere of Grey's Anatomy, along with five spoilerific tidbits about what's to come. [scene where they find out they're #12] Spoiler bonus: Following this scene, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) starts stealing patients for Seattle Grace, since it is no longer the No. 1 teaching hospital, and they need to up their trauma ranking. Also, late in the episode, a very cranky chief (James Pickens Jr.) gets angry about the ranking situation and goes off on one of the people in this scene like he has never gone off before. You—and the person he yells at—will be stunned. [new George & Lexie scene] Spoiler bonus: Even though Lexie (Chyler Leigh) and George (T.R. Knight) seem to be getting cozy, she finds out he slept with the other Grey...and that throws a wrench in the works. [new scene w/ limo arriving in ambulance bay] Spoiler bonus: See that blanket wrapped around Miss Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl)? Seconds before this clip starts, Alex (Justin Chambers) wraps it around her. Yes, we see a nicer, better-behaved Alex, but that won't last long—not even until the end of this episode. [scene w/ pen trach] Spoiler bonus: Meet Major Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), the Major Hottie who butts heads with every male doctor in Seattle Grace. There may be blood running down his leg, but that doesn't bother Hunt much; just wait until he staples his own behind later in the episode. [new scene w/ Chief / Cris / Hunt] Spoiler bonus: Cristina (Sandra Oh) has to take care of Hunt now, but later in the premiere she may need a little help herself. Speaking of Cristina, she tells Meredith what the rest of have been thinking for a while now: Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) are stuck in a vicious circle, and Cristina's sick of hearing about it! EXTRA CREDIT CLIP & SCOOP [scene w/Mer rushing into ER and Derek 'dying'] By now you will have deduced that this is a dream sequence, seeing as how the title of the episode is "Dream a Little Dream of Me," but Derek is stabbed later in the episode, and Nurse Rose (Lauren Stamile) has something to do with it. That lady is full-on Looney Tunes. See all clips here: http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with...ve_by_five.html --------------------------- Latest from Kristin - 17-Sep-2008 Yep it's true, McSteamy is back on the market. As Eric Dane told me at the USA Weekend cover photo shoot, "I think this year he's going to find somebody." Could it be Callie (again)? What about Izzie? I've got the latest word... According to my sources, McSteamy's new love is not Izzie, who will be very much occupied elsewhere this year (more on that later). Callie is settling down with Hahn, Rose is leaving, Cristina and Meredith are hooking up with other doctors and Bailey wouldn't touch McSteamy with a 10-foot pole, so where does that leave the good Dr. Mark Sloan? Quite possibly, it seems, with a new woman, if one recent Grey's Anatomy casting call for a guest star who may recur is to be trusted: The eye-catching notice in question described this new character as a female patient in her late 20s or early 30s, but, most important of all, they are looking for "star names only," meaning someone with a recognizable face they could effectively splash all over billboards and TV ads because the character will be in the midst of a hot fling with one of their hot male leads... One other note of interest, this character is "an empowered type A personality." In my humble opinion, this is good for two reasons: 1. McSteamy loves those man-eaters, as evidenced by his crushes on Addy and Hahn 2. This means that the new girl's nickname is a gimme: Little Miss Type A. Just like Reese Witherspoon's nickname, and now that that I think about it, Reese would be perfect for the part. (Do it, Reese, do it!) Now, my brainstorming aside, who should play Little Miss Type A? Post your picks in the comments, along with any questions you have for the Emmy nominees amongst the cast and I'll try to corral them for answers this Sunday on the red carpet! Source: E!Online http://spoilertv-greysanatomy.blogspot.com...kristin_17.html --------------------------- From Ask Kristin:Sep. 15, 2008Anne in Boston: On Grey's Anatomy, I heard that McSteamy got Callie pregnant and that their baby is the new love in his life. Tell me it's true! McSteamy offspring would be sooo cute. As much as I agree on the cute, I checked, and this will not come to pass. According to my sources, Callie is definitely not pregnant, either by McSteamy or George, and don't let nobody tell you different. Nicole in Honolulu: George has been with, like, everyone on Grey's Anatomy. He even saw Bailey's vajayjay. Is Lexie next in line for a little O'Malley magic? According to my Grey's sources, Lexie and George don't have a romance this season that's a major storyline (at least, not in the first part of the season); however, two other doctors we love (besides MerDer) will be hooking up, and it is most definitely major. http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with...tone_greys.html --------------------------- McSteamy is in the house! - 15-Sep-2008 Watch with Kristin Video http://spoilertv-greysanatomy.blogspot.com...stin-video.html --------------------------- Grey's Anatomy: Is Rose Pregnant? Find Out the Truth Sep 2, 10:29 AM PDT by Kristin Dos Santos (YouTube video from above is embedded: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG5zyc3XbjI ) Shout-out to Kate from New York for telling us about this new Grey's Anatomy promo, wherein Rose (Lauren Stamile) says to Derek (Patrick Dempsey): "I wish there were a good way to say this: I'm carrying your child." Want to know exactly what happens in the premiere when Rose drops the bomb from the promo into Derek's lap? Could Nurse Rose truly be having McDreamy's baby? (Aaah!) I've got the exclusive dish, so click in to find out about the future of Meredith and McDreamy... Liar, liar, pants on fire! My sources tell me that the promo posted above is just plain old pointless torture, because Rose is lying through her pretty white teeth when she tells Derek that she's having his baby. Now, why is she lying, and could she get away with it? That remains to be seen, but I can tell you that "Thorn" is just about done causing trouble for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek, because the two-hour season premiere (airing Sept. 25 on ABC at 9 p.m.) is apparently Lauren Stamile's final appearance with the show. Crisis averted! Rejoice in the comments! I'm heading to the Brothers & Sisters set right this minute, but I'll be back later to join you for a group happy dance. http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with...find_truth.html --------------------------- --------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ET ---- E!Online Grey's Anatomy: Mary McDonnell to Guest Star - Sep 24, 2008 Holy frak! President Roslin is joining Grey's Anatomy! Mary McDonnell is in advanced talks to join the drama for a multi-episode guest arc, confirms ABC. But who will she play? The nature of Mary's role, first reported by our good friends at Galactica Sitrep and Mo Ryan of the Chicago Tribune, remains a mystery. All we fans know for now is that it's a guest gig. The character's identity—patient, doctor or recently arrived relative—remains shrouded in Grey's famous anti-spoiler force field... But remember how last week I told you about the casting call for Little Miss Type A, the high-powered type A personality female character in her 20s or 30s? If you knocked off the age restriction, Mary McD would certainly be able to fill the other requirements of the part, don't you think? And now that I think about it, Mary could very well be a more mature Kate Walsh/Addison Montgomery. Could this be the older woman of McSteamy's dreams? What are your thoughts? Who else could she be playing? A hospital administrator come to help or harass the Chief? Or maybe Alex's mentally ill mother? All I know is that it would be a bit much if she were playing a dying leader of any stripe, but besides that, I think the options are endless! Post your theories in the comments! BATTLESTAR GALACTICA BONUS Q&A Sabrina in Cleveland: OMG. Was Tahmoh Penikett kidding or being serious when he said everyone dies at the end of Battlestar Galactica? I ran that by Tricia Helfer at the Emmys, and she said of the series finale, "Well, it's not as dark as, say, the midseason finale." Mmm...Want the official word? I also threw that question out to Mary McDonnell herself at the Seagate-Revlon Entertainment Weekly pre-Emmys party: Does everybody die in the finale? "No!" Roslin beats Helo any day of the week, so there's your answer! http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with...guest_star.html --------------------------------------------- 'Grey's Anatomy' Makes Taylor Swift Cry - September 23, 2008 Taylor Swift is such a huge "Grey's Anatomy" fan that she broke down in tears upon discovering the show will use her song in the season premiere. "You should've seen tears streaming down my face when I got the phone call that they were going to use that song on 'Grey's,'" she tells Billboard. "I have never been that excited. The song, "White Horse," is from her upcoming sophomore album, Fearless, out November 11. "This is my life's goal," she added, "to have a song on 'Grey's Anatomy.' My love of 'Grey's Anatomy' has never wavered. It's my longest relationship to date." Taylor says the song "talks about falling in love and the fairy tales that you are going to have with this person, and then there is that moment where you realize that it is not going to happen. That moment is the most earth shattering moment." The new season of "Grey's" premieres September 25 at 9 p.m. on ABC. http://www.etonline.com/news/2008/09/65883/index.html http://music.hollyscoop.com/taylor-swift/t...miere_1139.aspx ------------------------------------------------------------- More Celebs Added to List of Emmy Presenters -September 17, 2008 Grey's Anatomy" stars Patrick Dempsey and Sandra Oh have been added to the list of presenters for this year's Emmys, as have two TV classics: Mary Tyler Moore and Betty White, who will present together........ cont’d http://www.etonline.com/news/2008/09/65635/ --------------------------- --------------------------- --------------------------- Edited by oncetherewasaway, Oct 20 2008, 12:04 PM.

SIDES & SUMMARIES Episode 5.01 casting sides summary. Doug (50’s) – Lies in bed while his wife Cynthia is by his side. Dr. Walters is examining him. Doug was in a car accident and explains that the car must have hit a patch of ice. His back is sore but says he’s fine. Dr. Walters says the initial X-rays look clear but that they’ll take him to CT to make sure. Doug objects and says he doesn’t need a bunch of expensive tests to tell him what he already knows. He turns to Cynthia and says he told her the whole night was a mistake. Cynthia explains that Doug hates formal events and he says except for the one they met at. Cynthia tells Doug to go with the nice doctor and Dr. Walters interjects saying she’s not so nice. Doug says neither is he. Later on, Doug is in bed and Cynthia is seated next to him. She says there’s a problem with the insurance and Doug says that he knows. She asks him if he knows about the credit card and if things haven’t been going well at work. Doug tells her that he was let go from work 3 months ago. Cynthia says that he’s been going to the office everyday. Doug explains that there’s a coffee shop that he goes to and reads the paper. Cynthia asks him why he didn’t tell her and he answers that she lives a certain lifestyle and there is no money coming in. He didn’t want her to worry. He wanted her to feel safe with him like she always has and he apologizes. Cynthia begins to cry and tells him he’s her lifestyle; that he’s the only nice thing she needs. He needs surgery and he needs it from the best and if something ever happened to him, she’d never feel safe again. Phil (50’s)- Phil is sitting up in bed holding his wife Anna’s hand. He appears to be fine while Dr. Smith performs some medical exams and inspects his films. Phil asks Dr. Smith if they’ve found Michael already (Phil thinks Michael was thrown from the car). Dr. Smith reassures Phil saying the paramedics must be on their way with him. Phil asks Anna how she’s doing and she’s says she’s not alright because Phil can’t move his legs. Phil comforts Anna saying that he’s not in any pain and the doctors are trying to figure out a way so that they can dance at next year’s ball. Phil looking hopeful asks Dr.S for confirmation of that . Dr.S tries to be diplomatic and presses Phil’s thigh with the reflex hammer and asks him if he can feel it. Phil with a smile replies no. Dr.S moves the hammer up to Phil’s ribcage and he still can’t feel it (smile fades). Dr.S moves the hammer up to Phil’s shoulder and he says he can feel it. Phil, very happy, asks Dr.S if that’s good and Dr.S forces a smile and says it’s very good. Later on, Dr. Smith and several nurses are working on Phil. Phil has cooling blankets and plastic covering his body with the exception of his head, arms and feet. Dr. Smith is administering the cooling saline through an IV. Phil wants Dr. Smith to admit she likes testing a man's limits. Phil tells Dr. S that he's survived 33 years of marriage, 5 children, 11 grandchildren and the time his frat brothers made him jump naked into Lake Wanatanka in the middle of January and that was cold so the current situation is like a Spring day for him. Dr.S says she doesn't doubt it and puts another cold blanket on Phil. He says he still doesn't feel anything, in fact he's warm and toasty. Dr.S adds another blanket. Phil says he may have spoken too soon and wants to know how much longer it'll take. Dr.S says not much longer and tells Phil he's doing great and to hang in there. Another cold blanket is added and Phil's body is closer to frozen. Jillian (23)- Mrs. Marshall comes out of the bathroom to find a scantily clad Jillian outside the bathroom door waiting. Mrs. Marshall asks Jillian what she’s doing there and Jillian answers that she has to pee. Mrs. Marshall asks her what she’s doing in THAT room. Jillian says she’s with Jake. Mrs. Marshall says she means Jason. Jillian dismisses her with a ‘whatever’, says she’s got to pee and asks Mrs.M if she’s going to move out of the way. Mrs.M says she has no idea who Jillian is and she’s in her son’s hospital room. Jillian says it doesn’t change the fact that she has to pee. Mrs.M steps out of the way, Jillian enters the bathroom and shuts the door and Mrs.M stares angrily at the closed door. From Crys at TWoP (via Linda): A few more sides for 5.01 have been released and they are intriguing to say the least... here's the summary: Allan - Dr. Smith is looking beautiful and happy. She's about to start surgery when a young, handsome resident named Allan joins her at the table. Allan greets his mom - Dr. Smith - and asks if he gets to ressect the bowel today and Dr. Smith says yes. Allan then says Dr.Smith is the best mom ever and the best Chief of Surgery. Dr. Smith laughs modestly and happily and they work together. Popular Kid - Joan is moving down a crowded hallway. "Popular kid" looks at her and asks another kid if that isn't the weird chick that used to eat her own hair. The other kid remarks that Joan got hot. Resident/ Young Man/ Young Woman - there are sides for the each of the 3 characters but it's the same scene. The Young Man and Young Woman are hurriedly walking across the catwalk behind the other interns and their angry resident. The resident is giving the "Bailey" speech (You're interns, grunts, bottom of the surgical food chain. You run labs, write orders,...blah, blah blah). The Young Man asks if that isn't amazing. The Young Woman says her name is Kathryn Parker and agrees that it's amazing. The Young Man introduces himself as Doug Swanson and is described as excited. Wife - (interior dining room) John is an 80 year old man. He's sitting at the head of the table full of food and surrounded by his family of all ages (kids, grandkids, great grandkids). His loving wife kisses him on the cheek and tells John that they did good. John agrees and is described as feeling fulfilled. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited by oncetherewasaway, Oct 20 2008, 12:04 PM.

PODCAST Podcast 5.01/5.02 Derek and Meredith get their happily ever after, Cristina meets a man who says “So…” and the Chief gets steamed about the hospital’s new rankings. We’re here with the inside scoop on all that and more in our first official podcast for Season 5 of Grey’s Anatomy. Hello everyone and welcome back to the podcast. Last night’s 2 hour premiere was chock full o’ dreams. Here to tell us who had the most realistic dreams are Executive Producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers. They’ll also tease the next episode “Here Comes the Flood”, which airs Thursday October 9th from 9-10pm on ABC, or the next day at abc.com. Here now are Shonda & Betsy. BB: Hi, I’m Betsy… SR: I’m Shonda BB: …and this is Grey’s Anatomy. We’re back…Season 5 SR: Season 5 BB: It’s been a little while, we took a little break to try to get some more episodes going here, which I think successfully you’ve been doing, which is great. SR: We’ve been making episodes. BB: We got through the summer, it wasn’t too bad, wasn’t too hot, it was actually seasonal. SR: Yeah, it was OK. We did have an earthquake though. BB: We did, a tiny one. An “earthquake-ette”. That actually reminded us we live in Southern California where earthquakes might happen. But not like some of the movin’ and shakin’ that’s been happening over here, right? (laughs) SR: (laughs) That was the worst segue ever! BB: We’re a little out of practice, because we haven’t done this in like, 3 months? 4 months? SR: Yeah, it’s been a while. BB: So this is just like watching us crash and burn, which is much more exciting, right? SR: Yeah, we promise nothing. BB: Yeah, that’s probably true, but… just happy to be baaack… SR: Yes. By now you’ve seen this week’s episode, which is called “Dream a Little Dream of Me” BB: Which was 2 powerhouse hours of entertainment… SR: 2 very, very long hours of entertainment… we packed a lot into that episode. BB: And I think actually what’s interesting from this perspective is, you knew what this episode was, even before we stopped shooting last season. SR: Yeah, I knew what this episode was while I was writing the finale of last season. BB: She kept saying said I have this idea, and it’s a fairytale. It’s the other side of the fairytale. SR: Yeah, It’s what happens after you get your happily ever after. Because, I mean, Meredith and Derek couldn’t just ride off into the sunset and that’d be it, I mean, the show would be over. BB: Or stay in that field for the rest of their lives… SR: Yeah, but I did think that there’s something about what happens when your dream comes true in a lot of ways, what comes after that. I thought that was interesting. BB: And I think that’s what was great about it, that you also very, very early on, seemed to have the idea of the princesses and the fantasies, which were the two things… SR: Yes, I was very obsessed with the princesses, and originally like they were much closer to… to… well frankly the Disney Princesses than they were almost anything else. Like one was Snow White, one was Cinderella and one was Belle. Like we had a whole thing. And as it grew and changed and morphed and became different, obviously it grew and changed and morphed and became different… BB: But the essence was still the same, because in essence what you had was 3 women going to a ball, whose pumpkin crashed for all intents and purposes… SR: Yes, exactly! That’s very deep…that makes it sound deeper… BB: Thank you… there you go… SR: And what happens to them after they’ve had their happily ever afters with their Prince Charmings. BB: And also what I really, really love is the whole… this episode so much to me is about, the core of it, is about friendship and the definition of friendship, and what’s the next stage of friendship… Because everybody talks about the happily ever after for couples, but I think nobody really deals as much with the thing I love about this, which is what happens to the friends after the happily ever after. Which is also reflected with the princesses and the realization that one of them actually has been sleeping with another one’s husband… SR: Which is great, yeah… BB: …and yet they manage to heal, which is the big thing about having an amazingly close friend. SR: I always had this thing when Betty can’t remember anything, and is sort of perpetually stuck in this one moment. For me it was like, it had more than one level. It had the heartbreaking level, of she’s never going to understand what happened to her husband and she’s going to be constantly living in a state of grief, but on the other hand – her memory is short, do you know what I mean? BB: Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. SR: Her memory is short, which is sort of what has to happen to Sarah Beth and Bernadette Peters and Kathy Baker in order for them to heal their friendship and move on. BB: The whole opening of them arriving in this ice storm which I found like really both weird, mysterious, poetic and strange is that this car comes skidding up with these women in their phenomenal ball gowns… SR: I really wanted to do an ice storm, even though I knew like, OK it’s going to be October so I had this whole thing about global warming (a) and (B) I felt like it would be really cool to do an ice storm because I’ve never seen that, and in Seattle an ice storm would be interesting. And well, you know, I had something I wanted to do with an icicle so… BB: Which very early on, I remember you said “I’m going to impale Cristina with an icicle”… SR: ….and everybody was sort of like “What??” BB: When it sounds like that you think “Really? Seriously?” The really, really fun part actually being here, you know we bring up weather and a joke to begin with but the episode is about an ice storm and we do live in southern California, the challenge of doing an ice storm in Southern California is actually incredibly entertaining and strange. And kudos to “Shoots without a script” Rob Corn, who of course directed this double episode, and the incredible team of people that we have working here in production, because they actually frost-bit the whole area of the ambulance bay and did this incredible thing which to me really really looks, being from the East Coast you, being from the Midwest really, really looks authentic. SR: And then we did some amazing special effects on shots which were just perfect, lovely summer days in LA that we then turned into wintry days in Seattle which were kind of amazing as well. BB: For this incredible freak storm, which is great. SR: Yeah, freak storm… BB: Now I think also just in terms of, on the fairy tale topic, a very odd kind of Prince Charming walks in the door, which is one of my favorite things ever in the history of the damn show. SR: Yes, Owen Hunt. BB: Owen Hunt who, by the way? Saucy and spicy. But also, more importantly, really doesn’t give a crap what anybody thinks! SR: Well, I remember pitching the character to the studio and the network and everybody was like “So, what kind of guy is he?” and I’m like “Well, he just walks around and says “So?” a lot”. BB: And there was this long pause… SR: And everybody was sort of like “Well… what do you mean?” and I was like, he doesn’t care! He just says “So?” and he does whatever he wants. It’s awesome! BB: Which, in fact… SR: And the writers became obsessed with it, and in the first draft of the script, I think Owen said ‘so’ like 50 times, so we had to pull back a little bit on the so’s and use them sparingly… BB: You actually finally gave him a sentence, which was great… relatively early on but initially there was also this monosyllabic grunting of “So?” SR: I think that Kevin McKidd who plays Owen Hunt could grunt anything he would want and we would all be fine with it. BB: Well, and I’ve got to say, we are big fans of Kevin McKidd’s. I mean we had followed him in Journeyman, we saw him in Rome, we knew about him from Trainspotting and we were kind of freaked out that we actually got to work with him and that he was willing to play this part but he dug into it like a crazy man. SR: Yeah, he was wonderful. BB: He was really, really wonderful. SR: He took it very seriously. BB: I don’t know about you but, there was heat between Cristina and Owen. SR: There’s a little bit of heat, there’s a little bit of heat… I really loved their whole storyline. I thought that there was something really lovely about… he’s injured and he staples himself and then she’s injured and he carries her inside and it just was really great… and he pulls out her icicle… the whole relationship to me was really great and I love what it culminates in, which is that wonderful, amazing kiss. Which I adore. BB: Which is great, and it’s also finally great to see someone stand up to Cristina. Not in the Erica Hahn way of standing up to her, professionally, but like – this guy… SR: He felt like a formidable opponent BB: He does, and I think one of the things when you were first talking about this was the idea of somebody who was a formidable opponent, not only for Cristina, but for everyone at Seattle Grace… SR: Yeah, for Derek! And for Mark… BB: … and for McSteamy, because I mean Sloan is like… they’re both like, what the hell are you doing? You’re marching through here and you’re doing all of this crap… SR: Which I love, which I love… it’s just a very different energy than the hospital has seen before, which I’m excited about. BB: I think it’s really, really cool… and kind of great. SR: Yeah, I thought it was very interesting to see, and do this part. BB: I just really, really love Cristina’s karmic icicle when she yells at her best friend, and she gets an icicle through her heart… SR: Yeah, I love that Cristina basically gets to say the thing that I have been thinking, frankly, and I know that lots of people have been thinking for a long time which is “Shut up about your relationship with Derek!” BB: Just stop, just stop it, just please, please don’t say any more about this thing… and it was kind of a relief to have everyone come out and say it. Also I think the other, obviously the big thing, which to me is going to affect the season gigantically, the idea that Seattle Grace which we started with way, way back in 1928 or whenever we first started working on the show; we started with the idea of this hospital being an incredibly… SR: Like, one of the best. BB: One of the best… elegant, fabulous… that we start the season and this hospital has slipped so precipitously, I mean… SR: Yeah, I love that. BB: I mean, how much harder everyone’s going to have to work to… SR: That was really important to me, to start the season off with the idea that they are playing catch up in some way. That all of the arrogance they have about their hospital is sort of thrown in their faces when their ranking slips, not just to 4 or 5 – but to 12… which I thought was really hard and difficult for them to deal with. And would be hard for the Chief, and I love that he says they’ve gotten complacent, and that people have become lazy, and it all culminates in him saying that the surgical training program is officially changing, and that was really interesting because you know that something big is coming. BB: Which is going to be incredibly fun to watch. I also loved watching the Chief viciously overreact. Like, the Chief doesn’t measure his reactions, which I love… SR: The Chief does not like to lose. BB: No, he doesn’t man, and he turns into just… like steam coming out of his head! SR: … Yeah. BB: Which on one hand, the Chief is one of the most rational, great bosses in the world and then sometimes, one of the things I love about the Chief is, sometimes he’s not the most reliable boss… SR: He’s just as competitive as our residents are, which is what I think is interesting. BB: Exactly… and you never lose that. SR: I mean he’s… he never lost that drive, he’s still that competitive guy, which I thought was really interesting. BB: I think, like Alex is in a really…. The relationship with Alex and Izzie seems to be in a really, really interesting place too. SR: Yeah, I mean, I think for Alex the fact that she told anybody anything about what had gone on between them in the finale of last season, when he sort of cried, was more than he could take, for him, there’s no forgiving that. I think that that was a very interesting place for them to be. BB: Absolutely. And the weird thing is… SR: And he’s making out with skanks at the end of the episode, I mean, no offence to the skanks out there… BB: By the way, we’re not anti-skank… that’s not the issue… SR: Nope, love every last one of you. BB: I mean, the world needs skank… stuff… so… there we go. But I think in truth, for Izzie… SR: For Izzie it was a little bit mortifying, and for Alex you know… little bit of a backslide. BB: OK, so, the dream sequences? I just loved the Meredith/Cristina one. SR: The old ladies? BB: For all the personal reasons that are obvious. SR: I have a huge… I mean for me, that was my favorite. I love, I have to say I love the one where, you know, Meredith thinks that Derek is dead, well we see that Derek is dead, because it always made me cry because it always felt so real to me? And it was really shocking the first time I saw it, I read it and… BB: You actually started crying… SR: Yeah, I knew what happened next, and so I was like “Derek’s dead… oh my God…” so that was really hard. And I love, of course, Izzie’s at the end, her dream sequence but I think that Cristina’s is the most honest and pure, and sort of non-romantic and practical… and yet incredibly charming and speaks to the nature of what’s important to her and what friendship means to her. The idea that they’ll be two 90 year old women… BB: … routing on cereal boxes… SR: …. and cutting chicken… BB: … cutting chicken in their kitchen. SR: Like, that’s her dream, which I found to be incredibly sweet and charming. BB: Well, it’s that it’s so based in reality, and it circles back to the whole idea that …. (something about friendship…) SR: … and that dreams don’t always have to involve a boy, ladies! BB: OK, they can sometimes just be… hanging out with a good friend, eating chicken. SR: Exactly. BB: Which is always such a good thing, even if you can’t see and you’re a little shaky and you’re kinda grouchy, which I really, really liked. The two surgeons are eating chicken… SR: and they looked really good, I mean I feel like their old-age make-up was incredible. BB: I didn’t recognize them. SR: I saw them on set, and I remember thinking like… why did we bring in two actors to play them? BB: I thought we were actually going to do prosthetics. SR: … and then Sandra opened her mouth and I was like “Oh my God, they have the most amazing make-up on”. That was the Bermans, who are incredible for that. And Norman. BB: They did an amazing job. Absolutely. SR: Yeah. BB: Well, it was a nice way to start. But next week actually I think connects really, really well with this week. SR: We’re going to see a little bit more about, you know, what’s going … what’s going down with Erica and Callie. BB: I think that yeah, that was an awkward way to end the season and I think that they’ve got to work out where the heck their brains are on that one. SR: I think that they’re going to have an interesting place to go. I love they have that moment when they both discover that they’re both kinda virgins… BB: It also means that actually, as we move forward with this, it’s being handled in a different kind of way than I’ve seen, which is two people who actually don’t have any clue what they’re doing. SR: Which I love. BB: Which is opposed to a highly confident human being, dealing with… they’re both very lost in the woods, which I think is terrific. SR: Yeah. Next week’s episode is called “Here Comes the Flood”… BB: I believe in two weeks you’re going to be seeing Here Comes the Flood, because the fine people of this country are going to be watching a Presidential debate. SR: Debating… which I think is important and I think you should all really watch that too. Also voting… BB: Voting’s also good. But evaluating your opinions, based on the points in the debate. SR: Exactly. Don’t vote on clothes, or looks, or hair… BB: … or what your favorite movie is… SR: No. BB: Because sometimes that’s not a good thing. SR: Watch the debate. BB: Debating’s good because issues will come up and everybody will have feelings about that. SR: And if you’re not registered to vote, register to vote right now so that you can vote. BB: So that’s our public service announcement for getting out to vote there, which is good… SR: Voting. BB: Voting… SR: It’s for you… BB: It’s a good thing. SR: Yeah (laughs). BB: And also by the way, just for the record, it gets you out of the house… you might meet somebody… you never know who you might meet at the polling place. SR: That is where all the cute guys are. BB: They are. They’re hanging out, thinking about voting. Not necessarily getting coffee… SR: Your own personal McDreamy might be there… BB: He might just be standing there with a little punch card, with a ‘chat’(?) or whatever the heck people do in different states… SR: I don’t know what they do. BB: I don’t either. But if you see them, with that little sticker that says “I voted”… SR: That means they’re hot. BB: Chase them. Chase them like a cougar! (laughing) SR: Exactly… exactly… BB: So clearly we should hang this up now… SR: (laughing) We should stop talking now… BB: Because umm… we’re done! So umm… I’m Betsy… SR: I’m Shonda… Both: … and this is Grey’s Anatomy. That’s it for this podcast. We’ll be back next time with another inside look at Grey’s Anatomy. You can catch “Here Comes the Flood” on Thursday October 9th at 9pm on ABC, or the next day at abc.com Posted: Sep 28 2008, 07:41 PM NoTroutForMe/Amanda Edited by oncetherewasaway, Oct 20 2008, 12:05 PM.

EP RECAP Seattle Grace is dealt a serious blow when it falls to a twelfth ranking among teaching hospitals. Richard takes the ranking personally and has no time for Erica when she asks for tips to improve her teaching skills. Now that Meredith and Derek are back together, she keeps dreaming that he's dead. She decides to ask to move in with her and he accepts. His ex, Rose, is now hostile towards him, even in the OR. Derek asks her to transfer to another department but she insists on staying put. It's snowing, but now that Seattle Grace's ranking has slipped, ambulances are taking accident victims to other hospitals. The residents are just about to give up on patient arrivals when a battered limo drives up: Three women on their way to a formal event have gotten into an accident which seriously wounded their driver. One of the women, Betty, appears to have a concussion since she keeps asking where she is. Sarah Beth and Anna are not seriously hurt, but are concerned about their husbands. Miranda hears that a limo with three men -- the women's husbands -- is on its way to another hospital, so she informs the women they can ask for the men to be taken to Seattle Grace instead. When the men arrive, they're accompanied by Major Hunt, a military doctor who performed triage on the scene -- including using a pen for a tracheotomy. Hunt is hurt himself, but insists on checking on "his" patients. Cristina is impressed when he suggests a radical freezing technique to save Philip, who will be paralyzed otherwise. She's even more impressed when Hunt staples shut his own wound without any local anesthesia. Sarah Beth doesn't know what to do when she's told that her husband's insurance expires at midnight and that all his credit cards have been canceled. Anna confesses to Meredith that she's been having an affair with Sarah Beth's husband. Alex insists he's fineand Izzie tells him she still expects to see Denny around the corner, so it's okay if he needs some time to get over Ava. He regrets having broken down in front of her, however, and orders her to leave him alone. Lexie scolds Sloan for being mean to George and the surgeon correctly guesses that she has a crush on George. He says he'll stop being cruel to George if she'll confess how she feels, but she refuses. George misunderstands the situation and thinks that Lexie is sleeping with Sloan. Meredith has been talking Cristina's ear off about her anxieties over having Derek move in and finally Cristina snaps and yells at her to shut up, saying that the whole thing is a terrible idea. Cristina slips on some ice outside and before Meredith can help her up, a sharp icicle falls, stabbing Cristina in the chest. --------------- Major Hunt comes to the rescue, carrying the injured Cristina inside. He instructs her not to remove the icicle until they've determined the extent of the damage and Richard agrees. Hunt is also on hand to read her X-ray and determine that it's finally safe to remove the icicle. He tells Cristina she'd make an excellent field doctor and advises her that although she lost a patient today, she won't make the same mistake again, which means she'll save the next person's life. Because of the "woman cheating with her best friend's husband" patient situation, Meredith rethinks having Derek move in. He's not surprised and says he's willing to take baby steps with her. Rose accidentally hands Derek the wrong end of a scalpel during surgery, cutting his hand. She transfers to another department, rather than be the "Fatal Attraction" nurse. Anna tells Meredith that Sarah Beth doesn't know that eight months ago her husband lost his job and that's when the affair began. Meredith advises Anna, as Sarah Beth's best friend, to tell her the truth, no matter how ugly it is. Callie does some research and thinks they can pull off the freezing procedure Hunt mentioned. Derek is convinced it's more likely to kill the patient and tells Richard he's only given it the green light because he's desperate to boost the hospital's status. The freezing process is going well but then Callie realizes that the patient's body temperature is too low. She panics and doesn't know what to do, but Erica tells her to stay calm and together they manage to save the patient. The procedure is a success and the man's mobility is restored. Michael will never talk again, so he writes a letter to Sarah Beth that Lexie reads for him. He swears he still loves her and begs for forgiveness. Sarah Beth tells Alex she doesn't care if they operate on Michael before the midnight deadline or not. She asks him why men cheat and he answers maybe it's because they can't stand to be seen as weak. It's long after midnight before Miranda is available to operate on Michael, but she insists that Alex turn the clock back so the official time is a few minutes before the deadline. Pre-surgery, Betty's memory kept resetting every 30 seconds and after she wakes, Izzie watches the clock to see how she does. Her friends are devastated when she keeps asking the same questions over and over, meaning her brain damage is permanent. Sobered by the losses of the day, Sarah Beth decides to forgive both her husband and best friend Callie and Erica had been avoiding each other ever since their hookup, but now they decide to give their relationship a go, even though neither has ever been with another woman before. Richard offers Hunt a job at the hospital, but he turns him down as he's due back on the front. Before he leaves, Hunt seizes the moment and kisses Cristina. Meredith tells Cristina that she needs her to support her relationship with Derek because if she doesn't, then it really is doomed. Cristina assures her that she's still "her person" and that she thinks she and Derek will work. Lexie tries to tell George how she feels, but when he says he considers her his best friend, and about sleeping with Meredith when he loved her and she didn't love him, Lexie holds her tongue. When Izzie sees Alex with a half-naked woman at the house, she retreats into a fantasy in which she's reunited with Denny. Richard informs the staff that they've all been resting on their laurels and that from now on, they're all going to have to try a lot harder. http://abc.go.com/primetime/greysanatomy/i...131878&d=131879 Edited by oncetherewasaway, Oct 20 2008, 12:06 PM.

COMPANY BLOGS Grey Matter We Begin Again So Derek got dead, Mer and Cristina got old together, and Izzie showed Denny her prom dress. Such is the stuff of dreams. Which was kind of my theme. For this episode. And this season. Dreams. And whether or not they come true. This is season five, people. We, the writers, we call it our all in, go for broke season. We’re like the Chief – the bar has been raised and we’re the ones raising it. For us, the show is new again. Full of chances and possibilities. Our characters are new again, starting fresh. We’re hopeful again. And we’re enjoying being hopeful. All the rules are changing. I know you are wondering, “Okay, what does this mean?” And I could tell you. But I’d rather you watch and see for yourselves. Watch what happens with Meredith and Derek, Cristina and that guy Owen, Callie and Erica, Bailey, the Chief, George, Lexie, Mark, Izzie and Alex. All the clues for this season are right there in this first episode. Nothing happens without a reason. Every line of dialogue has a point. At least, I hope it does. I’m pretty tired but I think I’m right. That’s all I’m going to say. Because we’re shooting the eighth episode right now. And I’ve got to get to the set to watch a scene being filmed. So you’ll have more to watch. I’ll try to write more later. Thanks for sticking with us. We’re going to do our damnedest to make it worth your while. The bar has been raised, people. Consider yourselves on notice. September 25, 2008 http://www.greyswriters.com/2008/09/we-begin-again.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Emerald City Bar Sweet Dreams Okay, for the past couple of weeks, I’ve been having really, really bad dreams. Nightmares, actually. A few days ago, I jumped out of bed thinking there were spiders all over me. The night before that, I dreamt that the bar was shut down due to some weird health code violation. And, just last night, I dreamed about Meredith – all happy and whole, cheerfully packing up Derek’s things, merrily humming a joyous tune as she worked, heartily laughing about the wonderful little life she was about to make with her McDreamy. I’m telling you, NIGHTMARES! Walter says it’s because I’m eating too much sugar. But, I disagree. I think there’s a much more sinister, much more startling source of my frequent nightmares: reality. It’s true. I’ve been catching spiders like crazy lately. The health inspector paid me a visit last Tuesday. And Meredith and Derek are actually, totally and completely MOVING IN TOGETHER. It’s all happening. It’s all real. It’s all making it very difficult for me to sleep at night. Spiders are scary. Health inspectors are even scarier. And, well, Meredith and Derek moving in together? Now, that, my friends, is ABSOLUTELY HORRIFYING! Am I being a pessimist? …So? Hey, I want the Mer-Der to get their happy ending. I want Meredith to get over her commitment issues, her daddy issues, her mommy issues, her abandonment issues, her—okay, ALL of her issues… And I want Derek to get his act together, too. His mixed signal issues, his pride issues, his Nurse Rose issues… Yes, Derek has issues, too, I know. The million dollar question is: Are Meredith and Derek both ready for this? Has therapy really helped my girl Mer? I hope so! Has Derek really gotten rid of that creepy Fatal Attraction Nurse Rose chick? Something tells me, yes. Is Meredith really going to kick Derek out of her house every time a patient talks about chipping pieces of yourself away in order to have a real, lasting relationship? I honestly don’t know. I truly hope Meredith and Derek’s decision isn’t a mistake. I hope they can make this work. But, until I know for sure, I don’t think I’ll be getting much sleep… Until next time… -Joe the Bartender September 25, 2008 http://www.emeraldcitybar.com/2008/09/sweet-dreams.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Nurse’s Station ... RECAPS & REVIEWS & RATINGS SEASON PREMIER REVIEWS BUDDYTV Grey's Anatomy: Season 5 Premiere "Dream a Little Dream of Me" Recap - Thursday, September 25, 2008 Grey's Anatomy begins with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) standing in her house of candles that she made for McDreamy. She is ready to begin her fairytale life with Derek, her "happily ever after," but she voiceovers that happily ever after doesn't happen. We cut to her rushing to the hospital where Derek is dying on an operating table after being hit by a bus. She screams and cries, but suddenly, we find out that it was all just a dream. Real-life Meredith jumps up from a nap in the on-call room, as her voiceover curses the person who invented "happily ever after." She rushes to a computer where Bailey, Derek, Hahn and the residents are all hovering. The national rankings for teaching hospitals is about to be released, and everyone is on edge to find out where Seattle Grace landed this year. Everyone is shocked and saddened to learn that they fell down to number 12 in the rankings, behind Cleveland Clinic of all places....................there’s more http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anat...mier-23105.aspx Preview of 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 5 Premiere - Wednesday, September 10, 2008 The fifth season of Grey's Anatomy will be premiering in just two short weeks, and I almost can't contain myself. Last season, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) decided to take the plunge and enter into an honest-to-goodness adult relationship with McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey), and to deal with any consequences that might come from that. Only time will tell what Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey's Anatomy, considers an adult relationship. One thing's for sure: it ain't gonna be easy.........keep reading http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anat...easo-22664.aspx ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CHICAGO TRIBUNE 'Grey's Anatomy,' I just can't quit you yet - September 25, 2008 You expect the Big Moment on "Grey's Anatomy," and the usual array of melodramatic developments in Thursday's two-hour season premiere (8 p.m. Thursday, WLS-Ch. 7). On the plus side, at least this episode isn't as padded and maddening as past two-hour "Grey's" episodes have been. At this point, after four seasons of increasingly shrill and inconsistent writing, I’ve mostly stopped caring what happens to the core characters. My favorite moments of the two-hour premiere may be those in which Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) tells Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), who’s constantly prattling about her convoluted relationship to Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), to just shut up already. .................................MORE http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/en...-anatomy-a.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CINEMA BLEND TV Recap: Grey's Anatomy- Dream a Little Dream of Me - 2008-09-26 00:10:06 My god, I cannot tell you how sick I am of two-hour premiers. I'm starting to think that it may have been some kind of sick hazing plot by Kelly West and the crew to trick me into picking a set of shows to recap that all have two hour premiers. That's some Machiavellian shit right there, West! Anyway, this was the last of my premiers and it was definitely the best. Hopefully I can do it some justice. The show opens with the traditional Meredith V.O that went something like "Blah blah the problem with fairy tales is they don't come true, life is a Stephen King story, woe is me, there is no happily every after, whine whine whine" which leads into a scene of Derek dying under the knife. If you didn't realize that was a dream sequence from the beginning, you're a fool. ..................cont’d http://www.cinemablend.com/television/TV-R...f-Me-12425.html TV Review: Grey's Anatomy - Season 5 Premiere - 2008-09-22 18:28:17 Since I realize not everyone loves spoilers, I’ve broken this review up between general impressions and more spoilery stuff. So if you don’t want any details, only read the first half. For some great Grey’s goodies (but nothing that’ll ruin the episode for you) about the premiere, you'll find those in the second part. There’s something to be said about hitting the refresh button. I’ve been a fan of Grey’s Anatomy since the series premiered but I found that since the second season, the show just hasn’t been as good. Last season another off-again period in the Meredith/Derek saga, George repeating his internship, Cristina picking up the pieces after Burke left, Alex’s crazy girlfriend, the Chief’s marital issues and of course, Bailey’s marital problems as well all played a part in what felt like a real downer of a season. All the while I was starting to wonder if things were ever going to get good again. Will these people ever have more than a brief moment or two of happiness? I get that there has to be rough times in any drama series but Grey’s has had a season and a half of rough times and the light at the end of the tunnel only seemed to be getting dimmer and dimmer with each passing episode. If ever there were a series that was in need of the refresh button, it was this one and it is my belief that Ms. Rhimes is doing just that with this new season. Based on the two-hour premiere, it does appear like things are changing for the better at Seattle Grace hospital. Characters are starting to rethink the way they look at things in terms of their relationships, themselves and the way they do their jobs. Here’s the part where I start talking in specifics though so if you don’t want to know anything more, read no further. Just know that I have good things to say about it and if you’re a fan of the series, I think you’ll like the way things are starting out for the season. Make way for spoilers!..........................cont’d http://www.cinemablend.com/television/TV-R...iere-12351.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- EW.COM EW - TV Watch 'Grey's Anatomy': That Old Feeling The season gets started with a crash, while Meredith and the gang learn big lessons on friendship and love, natch. I understand you have to bring it for a season premiere, especially in season five (!) when everything's starting to feel a little stale. (We learned that lesson from Bernadette Peters and her on-screen hubby, in a way — that you gotta work to keep things exciting as your relationship starts to age — but we'll get to that in a bit.) However, five-year-itch notwithstanding, I could've lived without all the fake-out shocks in last night's Grey's Anatomy; like, for instance, the opening sequence (A dream sequence! Ha! Tricky!) in which Derek died on the table after a car crash. Of course ABC put that in the promos, and of course fans went all kinds of crazy about that, as well as the later scene regarding Rose and a possible love child. Shonda Rhimes can go on all she wants about not wanting to deceive fans, but she had to know that stuff was going to bring the hype. She's a smart lady.................cont’d http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20229083,00.html 'Grey's Anatomy': Season 4's Best and Worst - Sep 24, 2008 Scrub up for our countdown of the highs and lows of the fourth season of ABC's riveting medical drama (okay, super-sexy soap), then tell us what should happen in season 5 with our exclusive online polls http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20221152_2...0228484,00.html TV Preview Grey's Anatomy - 9-10 PM ABC Returns Sept. 25 Creator Shonda Rhimes says the kiss between Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Erica (Brooke Smith) will be addressed in the return episode: ''We want to deal with what happens when you are a woman who suddenly discovers she's attracted to another woman. Rhimes also confirms that Rome's Kevin McKidd will recur in season 5 as a doctor and love interest for Sandra Oh's Cristina. Derek successfully shook off a resentful Rose, who agreed to retreat to another specialty so she won’t keep stabbing him during surgeries. Lexie’s debilitating crush on George was noticed only by McSteamy, who chose to tease her about it relentlessly (and delightfully). Alex and Izzie were getting along pretty well until Meredith blabbed that Izzie had gained new respect for him, at which point he reset his controls to “great big jerk.” Callie and Hahn avoided each other following their big season-ending kiss, but they eventually decided to try dating, kind of, maybe. .................keep reading http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26876462/ Gloomy ‘Grey's Anatomy’ shows signs of life - Sept. 22, 2008 Meredith's melancholy had infected cast, but show can be resuscitated. Frown. Sigh. Pout. It’s an immutable TV fact that “Grey’s Anatomy’s” Meredith Grey is one of the mopiest characters on the tube. As she whined her way from season to season, though, audiences came to tolerate her maudlin, down-in-the-mouth outlook on life. The rest of the characters on “Grey’s” were a major counterbalance to Meredith’s self-loathing, interjecting a much-needed sense of whimsy, humor and upbeat attitude into the show. But last season, Meredith’s melancholy went viral and infected nearly every other doctor at Seattle Grace, hopping from character to character like a contagious disease...................................cont’d http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26824986/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW YORK MAGAZINE ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV GUIDE Back to Business on Thursdays - Sep 25, 2008 For the last few seasons, Thursday was unquestionably the busiest night of the TV week, but it now has serious competition. Monday, especially the first hour of prime-time, is a logjam nightmare of strong choices. And this Sunday is one hot mess, with ABC launching its re-energized leap-into-the-future Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters while Showtime kick-starts dazzling new seasons of Dexter and Californication while HBO continues with its kicky True Blood-Entourage combo, adding the raucous sketch-com Little Britain USA this week while CBS revs up a new season of Emmy champ The Amazing Race leading into Cold Case and a transplanted The Unit while Fox brings back its durable animated lineup. Whew. And yet Thursdays still count as the TV weeknight that it feels the entire week is building up to. It will take a few weeks for the night to take complete form; CSI and newbie remakes Life on Mars, Eleventh Hour and Kath & Kim (the latter quite possibly the worst new sitcom since, well, the last dud) won’t arrive until Oct. 9, choosing not to have their momentum stalled by next Thursday’s vice-presidential debate pre-emption. Emmy darling 30 Rock won’t show up until Oct. 30, its slot filled for several weeks by Saturday Night Live Weekend Update specials. (A prospect that’s a bit scary, considering how NOT ready for prime time the regular show has mostly been so far this season.)..............cont’d http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...-Earl/800047453 Is there any hope for some Alex/Izzie romance in the new season of Grey's Anatomy? — Layla Mickey: I spied the season premiere the other day, and — at least in that episode — the simple answer is "yes," there is hope. But as with most things in Shondaland, the real answer is much more complicated. (That's what you get when half of the couple is profoundly self-destructive.) Rumors about the starlet wanting to exit the show began this summer, after Heigl, who plays Dr. Izzie Stevens, said she wasn't submitting her name for Emmy consideration this year because the writers didn't deliver Emmy-worthy material. When asked about the rumors, Rhimes told The Associated Press, "We have every intention of seeing Katherine for the entire season." But has the actress expressed any interest in leaving the hit show? Rhimes responded firmly, "No, she has not." Rhimes cites what she calls "the Dawson's Creek phenomenon," in which a "bunch of lovely and young actors" must learn to cope with the sudden fame a TV hit brings," as a possible reason for the all the off-screen drama (including Isaiah Washington's alleged gay slur toward costar T.R. Knight and his subsequent firing). "These are people who went from living their lives to not being able to walk down the street without paparazzi being able to follow them wherever they go," she said. http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...-Says/800047351 TV Guide Scans by DarkUFO – Sept. 16, 2008 Article and Pick of McKidd http://spoilertv-greysanatomy.blogspot.com...uide-scans.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TV SQUAD Grey's Anatomy: Dream a Little Dream of Me, Parts 1 & 2 (season premiere) - Posted Sep 26th 2008 (S05E01/S05E02) "The person that invented the phrase 'happily ever after' should have his ass kicked so hard." - Meredith Another September, another Grey's Anatomy season premiere. Hard to believe that we're already into a fifth season. But you know what isn't hard to believe? That we're still dealing with the same "Meredith and Derek - will they or won't they" mess. Grey's has reached the point that regardless of what happens, I'm going to keep watching it because I've invested too much of my time to walk away now. I really am a fan of the show, which is why I don't feel bad when I say that this was quite possibly the most ridiculous season premiere ever. If you're a fan of Grey's Anatomy, that promise is nothing but good news. Tonight's smartly constructed two-hour season premiere completes the task begun last spring, clearing away dead plots and setting this massively entertaining series back on track. Which means, by the way, you can ignore most of the promos. Almost all of the major characters do go through some life changes tonight, but they're incremental rather than drastic. The show's best carryover idea from May is to drop Derek and Meredith's will they/won't they dance and unite them once and (we assume) for all. Spoilers ahead, but no happily ever after… We begin back in the field where we ended last season, with Meredith waiting for Derek to return from breaking up with Rose. The season premiere will also feature "Journeyman" star Kevin McKidd as a military doctor who sparks Cristina's (Sandra Oh) interest and the Chief (James Pickens Jr.) dealing with the fallout of Seattle Grace no longer being ranked among the best teaching hospitals. That leads to a new question as the ABC medical drama opens Season 5 (Thursday, 9 ET/PT): What happens after happily ever after? For Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey), being a committed couple is hardly the end of the story, creator Shonda Rhimes says. "They've never had the chance to get past the 'Will they, or won't they?' and be in the 'What happens now?' part of it," she says. "There's a lot of humor and pathos and pain to be played in what it's going to mean for the two of them to really be together." Dempsey says the two are "always going to have conflict. They're always going to be working on issues." In addition, "for good" doesn't necessarily go past this season, Rhimes says. "But they're definitely together for good for now. I'm with them. Is heartbreak next? "We ended last season with the end of the fairy tale," said series creator Shonda Rhimes. "I always thought this season was about what happens after the `happily ever after,' for all our characters." "For some, it's about jumping off into something new. It feels like a very fresh start for everybody," Rhimes said. The ABC show's two-hour season debut is 9 p.m. EDT Thursday. An on-air promotion has provided a clue about one potential challenge facing Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). It includes a brief scene in which Derek is confronted by nurse Rose (Lauren Stamile). "I wish there were a good way to say this: I'm carrying your child," Rose tells Derek, whose stunned look might match that worn by "Grey's" fans. When last seen, McDreamy was embracing Meredith amid a sea of candles after therapy allowed her to see the light about their relationship. Cont… http://blogs.pioneerlocal.com/entertainmen..._the_greys.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Grey's Anatomy - Sep 24, 2008 Entering its fifth season, "Grey's Anatomy" has experienced an unusual flip: Where the medical cases once felt like the window dressing to augment the drama's core characters, the meaty guest roles are now far more interesting and tolerable than the increasingly tiresome and convoluted web of intramural romances. During the premiere, the head doctor chides his staff, accusing them of "resting on our laurels." Yet while the series remains a major hit, its storytelling appears to be rapidly exhausting its supply of viable laurels upon which to rest. Without giving anything away, suffice it to say that the on-again, off-again, maybe-on-again relationship between Seattle Grace Hospital resident Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and surgeon Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) has become so irritating that even Meredith's prickly pal Cristina (Sandra Oh) finally pleads, "I'll give you $100 if you talk about something else." Viewers can avoid the issue for considerably less, but that would mean missing topnotch guest shots by Bernadette Peters and Kathy Baker in the premiere written by series creator Shonda Rhimes. It would also mean forgoing the arrival of "Rome's" Kevin McKidd as a macho Army trauma surgeon and possible love interest for Cristina, which actually puts a real Scotsman into the "McDreamy-McSteamy" haggis. Unfortunately, what initially made "Grey's" so appealing -- watching these young doctors balance romance and work, mostly by hopping onto a gurney (or into an elevator) with the nearest willing coworker -- has become the show's Achilles heel. A new potential liaison this year only adds to the sense that before it's all over, every hospital employee will have slept with a colleague twice -- or, barring that, wistfully longed to bed them, accompanied by a pop-friendly musical montage. Rhimes certainly knows how to plant emotional hooks with the best of them and weave confusion and longing into each week's subplots. The show also has assembled such a talented cast as to power through some of the missteps, beginning with its inane Izzie-George-Callie triangle, which is morphing into a trapezoid or perhaps even hexagon. At some point, though, a program this reliant on workplace sexcapades begins to run out of combinations, and the writers haven't done much more to address the problem than pad on new layers of interns (starting with Meredith's younger sister, played by Chyler Leigh) to further confound things. "Grey's" has such a loyal fan base that ABC needn't worry about flatlining any time soon; still, assuming the desire to stay at this hospital depends on replenishing key storylines, the longterm diagnosis doesn't look good. Of course, if you disagree, feel free to get a second opinion. http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117938491...egoryid=31&cs=1 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Review: 'Grey's Anatomy' season premiere - Sep 24, 2008 http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/tv/ny...,6876814.column Edited by oncetherewasaway, Nov 10 2008, 01:48 AM.

The show is currently shooting its tenth episode, and if contracts are signed soon, as is expected, McDonnell will be shooting scenes with the “Grey’s” cast shortly. ............................cont’d http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/en...-anatomy-1.html NoTroutForMe Ooh hey, I forgot to say... I finished rewatching S4 this weekend, and although Forever Young and The Becoming are the only ones marked (on Episode Selection when you look at the disc menu) as being extended, there are a couple extra bits in Freedom too. One of them is that scene we saw on YouTube that was in Spanish and Jasmin translated it. The one where Derek's telling Rose all about the virus formulation and she's being all dense... then Mer walks in and is a total rock star. wink It's great. Also, the paper insert has a few interesting fun facts that I'm not sure we've heard before. Well, I'm going to list out the ones I didn't know anyway... some we know a little, but not all... -After graduating from college, Meredith spent her days backpacking accross Europe. In her journal, she names Rome as her favorite city. - Richard & Ellis first met in OR-1, during a summer visit to Seattle Grace. They would later work together as interns in the same program. - Cristina was diagnosed with dyslexia when she was just 6 years old. - Izzie got herself a tattoo of a butterfly (above her right thigh) when she was 13 years old. Her Mom never found out. - George drives a tan hatchback, a gi.ft from his mother, to work. - Addison sold the New York brownstone she shared with Derek, but kept their house in the Hamptons as an investment and for future use. - Callie is heir to a widely popular hotel chain, based in Florida. (Just for you, Jasmin! wink) - Denny owned several acres of land in northern, rural Washington. He converted his land to a ranch, where he raised over 12 horses. - Mark averages three noise complaints per week at his Archfield Hotel residence.bigsmilebigsmileblushing - Dr Burke frequently asked for his mother to send some of her famous hickory-smoked BBQ from her Alabama-based restaurant. His favorite dish? The legendary, award winning ribs. - Lexie calls her sister, Molly, every Sunday. - In her entire life, Erica has never lost a game of darts. - According to the plaques in his office, Richard is consistently named one of the "Best Doctors in America" for general surgery. - Alex was a champion wrestler at the University of Iowa. During his senior year, he was ranked first (25-1) in his 141lb division. - Dr Bailey started playing the oboe in 5th Grade. She was later accepted into the prestigious New England Conservatory, but never went. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited by oncetherewasaway, Jan 16 2009, 09:57 PM.

5.01~5.02 Dream a Little Dream of Me, September 25, 2008 Meredith: [voice over] We all remember the bedtime stories of our childhoods. The shoe fits Cinderella, the frog turns into a prince, Sleeping Beauty is awakened with a kiss. Once upon a time .... and then they lived happily ever after. Fairy tales .... the stuff of dreams. The problem is, fairy tales don't come true. It's the other stories, the ones that begin with 'dark and stormy nights' and end in the unspeakable. It's the nightmares that always seem to become reality. Scene opens to a flatlining, Chief Webber and Cristina looking into a exam room window and Meredith rushes thru the door. Meredith: WHAT HAPPENED?! Christina: A bus in front of him hit a telephone pole. He tried to swerve to miss it but...... Cristina and Webber attempt to calm Meredith down. Meredith: How bad is it!? Webber: Meredith. Christina: You gonna have to be strong Meredith: (screams and runs to glass window) Derek!......... No! ......No! Scene thru window , Bailey doing chest compressions, Mark removes ambu bag, hangs head down. Bailey looks up in despair calling time of death. Meredith: Noooo! Nooooo! Derek! Nooooooo.....Nooooooo.....Nooooooo......Nooooooo......Nooooooo.......... (Meredith startles awake from dream on gurney in basement) Meredith: [voice over] The person who invented the phrase 'happily ever after' should have his ass kicked so hard! Scene of Bailey sitting at computer with Erica, Derek, Cristina and Mark hovering around, peeking over her shoulder trying to have a look at screen. Bailey: Back up... you’re sucking up all my oxygen. Derek: I’m trying to see. Bailey: It’s not up yet. There’s nothing to see. Erica: It was supposed to be posted at four. Mark : It’s four fifteen. Christina: Hit the refresh button, you have to reload the page Bailey: I’m hitting the refresh buttons every ten seconds .... just wait. Meredith: Is it up yet? Bailey: No. Derek: (to Meredith) Hi Meredith: Hi Alex: Is it up yet? Bailey: No.....wait. Mark: Do you think we have a shot to pass Hopkins to move up to number one. Derek: We’re not passing Hopkins, we’re gonna stay number two. Erica: Mayo could surge ahead, we could be three. Derek: Three! Pessimist. Erica: Realist. The rankings of teaching hospitals changed based on any number of things Izzie: Ahh, three’s top five, I can live with three. Alex: (leans over Bailey’s shoulder to hit refresh) Hit the refresh button. Bailey: Stay back, I’m doing this. (slaps his hand away) Izzie: (runs in) Hey, is it up yet? (someone answers no, to which Izzie leans over to hit refresh) Bailey: No! Izzie: Here, just hit the refresh button .... Bailey: I’m hitting the ..... okay..... All of you. Back up. Stop hovering, stop speculating. The rankings will go up when they go up. We have no control over when they are posted. When it is up, I will say “It is up!”, Until then backup, shut up and leave me alone so I can push the ...... The computer pings and all gathered around bend down to look at screen. Meredith: It’s up! Bailey: Number one Hopkins, number two Mayo... Erica: Told you. Bailey: Three Cleveland Clinic? Derek: What? Bailey: Four, Mass. Gen. Izzie: What? Christina: We moved out of five? Bailey: No, we’re not five.... (Scene of Webber and George walking down hallway) Webber: Twelve! Twelve! O’Malley! George: So upsetting. Webber: This is not a number twelve teaching hospital George: No, it’s a great teaching hospital. Webber: I do not run a number twelve surgical program in the country. George: Sir .... sir. Webber: Out with it O’Malley. George: We’ve been downgraded to a level one trauma center to a level two. What is that even mean? You don’t even ... explaining, it’s just details. (George walks off before Webber can resume his rant) Webber: Twelve! Scene in intern locker room George: Now I couldn’t ask him about when he was going to schedule my intern test with all the you know what hitting the fan. I mean, for all I know he’s gonna spring it like in what? An hour, two hours.... Lexie: And you’ll be ready. Causes of hypotension? George: Hypervulimia, MI Cardiacdisrythmia.....uhhh.... hypoxia, is that good? Lexie: (whispers closely behind George) Yeah very good. George: (quickly turns to Lexie) What? Huh? Lexie: The snow, it stopped raining. It’s like a fairytale. George: Lexie, it’s, it’s the fall. It’s not so much a fairytale, it’s global warming. That’s the apocalypse, well that’s like dropping to number twelve and me failing my intern test for the second time. George leaves the locker room. Lexie: I adore you by the way. Scene with Meredith and Cristina walking hallway with Cristina’s interns.. Lexie: Oh hey, sorry I’m late. I was just talking ... Christina: No talking unless it’s medical. Meredith: So, I keep having that dream, that Derek is dead dream. Christina: Who does their residencies at number twelve hospitals? Losers. And I am not a loser. (to her interns) Get the charts. Meredith: So, the dream is about me being afraid of the house of candles and you know taking the big step and I’m afraid of having a happy ending. Christina: You know I have a Phd.. in bio-chem . I’m a double doctor. Double doctors should not do their residencies at second rate hospitals.... Meredith: Wyatt says I should just lean into the wind, into the fear. So, I’m just gonna ask Derek to move in with me. Christina: A transfer. Cleveland Clinic has a huge cardio program Meredith: We’re still in the top twenty that pretty good. Christina: That’s not good enough. I wanna be great. Greatness Meredith. Meredith: Greatness, which is why I’m gonna ask Derek to move in with me. It’s just that it’s.... ya know it’s a big step and I don’t want to mess it up again. I’ve messed it before, the breakups, and the on and off again and the sleeping with George, it just.... Lexie: You slept with George? (Cris and Mer both turn to look at Lexie simultaneously) No talking unless its medical. Cris and Mer turn back and continue down hallway Meredith: So I’m just gonna do it, I’m just gonna ask him to move in with me. It’s the right thing, right? Christina: (beeper goes off and Cris leaves) Uh, Bailey’s paging. Lexie: So, medically. Meredith and George had sexual intercourse?. Uh....When? How many times? Christina turns to respond to Lexie but says nothing.... tempted to give her a slap upside the head ... can’t believe Lexie is going there. Cris walks away. Scene Mark and Derek walking through reception area. Mark : Humiliating. Twelve. Derek: Yeah. Mark : Twelve? You’re the best neurosurgeon in the country.... in the world.(a beat) Don’t you wanna say anything nice about me? Derek: Ahhh.... you’re the best plastic’s guy at Seattle Grace. Mark : Nice, really nice. Derek: Don’t push me to praise you.(Rose walks up to counter replacing a chart) Hey Rose. Nurse Rose: (ignoring Derek) Hello Dr. Sloan. Mark: Hmmm .... Derek: She took it so well in the beginning, I was hoping we could be civilized, ya know she’s working my OR Mark : Civilize is out. It’s gone, it’s a trail of fairy dust. Now she’s got delayed rage. Derek: Delayed rage? Mark : She was being big before, putting on a brave face. Now she’s had time to think, now she hates your guts. You have to break up with her. Derek: That’s the point, I did already. Mark : Well you did personally, now you have to do it professionally. Good luck with that. (Mark walks away leaving Derek a bit confused) Derek: Delayed rage? Chief Webber stands at railing on the skywalk thinking.... pondering number twelve, Erica walks up Erica: I’d like a list ...from you... of ways that I can improve. Webber: Not right now. Erica: Richard, you told me I’m a bad teacher. Now we’re number twelve and I don’t like to be number twelve, so I’d like a list. Webber: Not right now. (Walking away from Erica) Erica: But if there are ways I can improve, ways that I can help the program regain it’s ranking then... Webber: It’s snowing. You know what happens when its nighttime and it’s snowing and the temperature is hovering right around thirty-two degrees. Erica: No. Webber: The snow begins to melt and then it freezes again, creating black ice, the deadliest kind of ice because it’s invisible to drivers. That would usually mean our ER would fill up but Mercy West is the number one level trauma center and we’re not. Which means their ER get the traumas while we get their castoffs, which pisses me off. So when I say “Not right now”what I mean is not right now. (Webber walks off and Erica turns to see Callie....awkward moment.... avoiding each other, each turn to walk away) Scene outside ER, Meredith, Bailey, Izzie and Alex appear to be waiting for incoming traumas) Bailey: Stop shivering, you’re embarrassing me. Izzie: I didn’t realize we were gonna be outside. (Alex grabs a blanket and wraps it around Izzie) Oh! I’m okay, you don’t have to do that. Alex: Bundle up, you’re turning blue. Meredith: Doctor Bailey, it is kinda cold out here Alex: No one’s coming Izzie: Maybe some old people with broken hips we can fix. Bailey: Okay, stop talking. We are Seattle Grace Hospital and rankings or no rankings we are going to stand outside, at the ready on alert and give the best care available to every single patient that arrives at our door. We may no longer be ranked the best but I’m the best and you’re my residents which means you’re the best. It’s a matter of pride people. (Cristina joins the group) Christina: What are we doing? Izzie: We’re waiting. Christina: For? Meredith: A miracle. Bailey: Someone will come. Christina: Doctor Bailey, you know that Mercy West is getting all the traumas first. Bailey: Someone will come. Meredith: So we’re standing out here in the hopes that someone is severely injured, wishing and praying that someone is so hurt and so near death that the ambulance has to bring them to here because we’re closer rather than Mercy West. Bailey: Yep. Izzie: Wow, you and God are cool with that? Bailey: Damn, I forgot about God. Alright let’s just go on back inside. (As they turn to go inside a car pulls up to ER, clearly out of control) Bailey: Whoa, whoa.... whoa. Watch out! ( a woman in an evening gown get out of car, shaken and bleeding from the head) Meredith: Are you okay? Sarabeth: I drove the limousine on ice. All by myself, ten blocks. (Izzie help another woman from the passenger side) Izzie: You okay? Betty: My dress, there’s blood all over my dress. What happened? Sarabeth: What happened was I got us to the hospital in one piece. Izzie: Please, please try not to move. Okay. Just sit right here until we can get you a wheelchair. We need a wheelchair over here. Sarabeth: We’re not the patients, where.... what his name.....Billy ...... Bailey: Billy? Sarabeth: The limo driver, he flew through the windshield.(inside another female passenger is holding limo driver) Anna: Help him please. Bailey: Yang, come around and help me. Get a board, bring out a gurney and a C-collar (Bailey and Cristina begin to help limo driver and there’s blood all around, Cristina applies pressure to spurting artery) Bailey: Press it, press! Scene inside ER Bailey wheeling gurney while holding pressure to stop the bleed Webber: What do we have? Bailey: Billy Matthews, 45, arterial bleed, haven't isolated the cause. Webber: I got this. Okay, let's get him in trauma one. Bailey: Okay, but I'm holding pressure over the bleed. I just need Webber: I got this. Bailey: I just need—chief… Scene in ER, Meredith and Izzie are treating Sarabeth, Anna and Betty’s injuries Betty: What’s going on? Vincent will worry if I'm late. Izzie: You've been in a car accident. You're at the hospital, but we're gonna take really good care of you. Sarabeth: Is she okay? Izzie: Might be a concussion. I'm gonna go order a C.T. And make sure it's nothing more than that. Anna: All this blood ... we should've waited for the ambulance. Sarabeth: We did wait. We waited, they never came. And Billy was just hanging there through the windshield. Callie: Wait, you guys extracted your limo driver from the windshield by yourselves? Wow, that's pretty heroic. Anna: Isn't Michael answering? Sarabeth: No. Try Phil again. We shouldn't have even been going to the stupid ball in a storm like that. George: What ball? Sarabeth: The Fire and Ice ball—would you believe, in an ice storm? Anna: Just goes to voice mail. Maybe--maybe their phones are off? Betty: You can't reach Vincent? Meredith: Your husbands were in another car? Sarabeth: We won't ride with them. We're three of the most happily married women ever except when our husbands drag out their cigars, and they drag out their cigars in the limo. Callie: Well, your arm is not broken, just bruised. So O’Malley here is gonna suture up your cuts, and then you're all set. You ladies are lucky you didn't sustain more serious injuries. Sarabeth: What kind of doctor are you? You're young. George: Oh, I'm an intern. Sarabeth: Interns don't touch the face. The plastic surgeon touches the face. Betty: What's happening? Where am I? Anna: We were in an accident. You're okay. We're all gonna be fine. Anna and Sarabeth both look at Betty concerned, Izzie and Meredith both notice Betty may have issues Scene in hallway Erica and Callie meet......awkwardness abounds Erica: Hi. Callie: Hi. Erica: I've been really busy. Callie: No, no, I know. I've been, like, crazy busy. Researching things, a lot of research, in the library. Erica: Oh, yeah, me, too. Incredibly busy. A lot of research, uh, like you, only I use the internet. Callie: Well, I gotta check in with Bailey, so… Erica: Me, too. Both approach Bailey who is sitting at desk.... charting Callie: Bailey, anything else? Bailey: Nothing. Nothing else. That's the problem. I'm charting. The chief took my one trauma. I gave up my clinic, and now I'm charting. The chief wanted you to take a look at these. Billy Matthews. He's the limo driver. Multiple crush injuries from an M.V.C. Erica: Hemopericardium. (a beat) Hemopericardium can lead to cardiac tamponade, which can be detected by beck's triad--increased J.V.P., Hypotension and muffled heart sounds. This is a teaching hospital. I'm trying to improve my teaching. Bailey: Well, don't try it on me. Mark: Want to know how I teach? Erica: No. Mark: I'm like a guru—they come to me for help, and I gently guide them along the path to truth and wisdom. Scene Hallway, George walking and Lexie runs to catch up with him Lexie: Hey,George. George: Hi. Lexie: I heard a thing. George: Yeah? Lexie: A surprising thing, a very unexpected, non-medical thing about you and— George: Oh, hold on. Uh, Dr. Sloan, hi. Sarabeth Briar has got a facial lac but she will only let you touch her. Mark: You paged me for a cut? What kind of moron are you, O’Malley? Are you a special moron from the isle of complete and utter morons? George: I don't think so. Mark: Shut up. (winks at Erica and walks away) Truth and wisdom. Lexie: He’s an ass. Meredith walks up to Cristina who is at counter writing in chart Cristina: You know what? This is what we get for being number 12-- a bunch of women in ball gowns and half-dead limo driver. Meredith: Those women are amazing. They tried to save his life. That's who I want to be, you know? Cristina: An aging princess? Meredith: They've been with the same men for years, and they're happy. They did it. I can do it. Cristina: Mer, I… Derek: Hey. Who paged me? Derek and Meredith walk away leaving Cristina thinking what the heck.....we we’re talking Meredith: Bailey and Izzie paged you, but you should see Bailey first because she's got the limo driver. Derek: Okay. Derek: Do you want to move in with me? Derek: You want to live together? Meredith: Well, I mean I could-- I just, uh. Derek: Yes. Meredith: If—if you don't want to, I.....Yes? Derek: Absolutely. You sure you're ready? Meredith: I am leaning into the fear to get a happy ending. Derek: I don't even know what that means. Derek and Meredith get to ER exam room where Webber is calling time of death on limo driver. Webber: Damn it! Time of death--20:47. Limo driver, traumatic arrest. Never regained a pulse. Tell them not to book the OR Bailey and Cristina at counter in ER Bailey: : I have a dream, Yang. Cristina: Excuse me? Bailey: That one day, a trauma will come through those doors--I have a dream. Cristina: I share that dream. Bailey: Number 12. Christina, number 12. Bailey: Right now dispatch is squawking about three men-- three serious injuries...Every one, they're taking 'em to Mercy West. Cristina: Three men? Bailey: That's what I said. Cristina: You mean like three men who could be married to those ladies in the ball gowns? Bailey looks up at Cristina realizing she is on to something. Mark treating Sarabeth in ER Mark: Little stick. Anna: Squeeze my hand. Squeeze my hand. Just like when you had Petey, you remember? Sarabeth: Pete hurt less. Mark: Yeah, but you're going to love me later when there's virtually no scar. Bailey: Ladies, um, I've been on the phone with uh, ambulance dispatch. Three gentlemen in a limousine collided with another vehicle on Broad Street. It's possible it was your husbands. Anna: Oh, no. Cristina: They're taking them to Mercy West… Bailey: Which is across town. Cristina: Unless .... you prefer that they be brought here. Sarabeth: We can do that? Bailey: Oh, you can insist. Cristina: And, if I were you, I would insist. Anna: Oh, well, then I guess.... I guess we insist. Sarabeth: Yes, we insist. Bailey: You insist. (Mark smirks at Bailey) Chief Webber going out ER doors to meet an incoming trauma Webber: Am I to understand that you stole these traumas from Mercy West? Bailey: I have no idea what you're talking about. Webber: Good job, 'cause now it's personal. Yang, come with me. (doors open on arriving ambulance) Paramedic: We have a situation. 58-year-old male, MVC, Tachy and 160, BP 80 palp, decreased bilateral and breath sounds. Webber: What did you do? Paramedic: I didn't do it. He did. G.I. Joe trached him at the field before I got there. Webber: With a pen? You trached this guy with an ink pen? Owen: So? Webber: Move this guy inside now. Come on now. Let's go. Move, move, move, move. Cristina: Pen.. Trach. Hot. (Cristina watches in amazement the doctor who has caught her attention go into the ER) Derek enters ER exam room where Cristina presents Derek: Okay, what do we got? Cristina: Vincent Kenner, 58, unrestrained backseat passenger of a limo that took a nose-dive, muffled heart sounds and large scalp lac. Betty: That's Vincent. Izzie: Betty. I'm sorry, Dr. Hahn, but she wanted to see her husband. Betty: Vincent. That's my husband. What happened? Is he all right? Izzie: I promise to give you an update as soon as we know something. Betty: No. Izzie: But right now, I have to get you to the C.T. Betty: Oh, god. Vincent. Izzie: I'll bring you back. I'll bring you back. Cristina: Free fluid in the abdomen. Derek: Compressed skull fracture. Erica: He's also got decreased breath sounds bilaterally. This guy's getting an express ticket to the OR. Let the chief know. Cristina: Can I scrub in? Erica: Fine. Outside the exam room in the hallway Anna: He has a pen in his throat! Oh, Michael! Oh, god, Michael! Oh, god, are you.... Is that a.....is that a pen in his throat? Does he have a ballpoint pen in his throat? George: Ma'am, you need to wait outside. Let the doctors work. Anna: But they have to be very careful with him. Michael's been under an incredible amount of stress lately and .... and the last thing he needs… Webber: Grey, can you handle this woman, please? Meredith: Mrs. Loomis, we're gonna take you to your husband. He's around the corner. Anna: Sweetheart, I'm here. Michael, I'm here sweetheart. Webber: This is not her husband? George: Nope. As Anna leaves Sarabeth comes in exam room Sarabeth: Oh, my god, Michael! George: It's her husband. Sarabeth: What happened to him.....What happened to him? George: Please come with me, ma'am. Please, this way. Sarabeth: What happened to him? Michael! Mark: You trached a man in the field using a ballpoint pen? Owen: That’s all I had on me. What, it's not like I didn't clean it off with fresh snow. Alex: That's awesome. Owen: Really? You're going with a size six shiley tube on this? Mark: Somebody get this guy away from me. Bailey: Uh, I'm gonna need a C.T. of, uh, his belly, chief. Karev, get us in line. Mark: Looks like his trachea's crushed. I'm gonna need an O.R. And an extra set of hands. Who's available? Bailey: Grey. Mark: The good Grey? Bailey: The intern Grey. Webber: And I'll throw in O’Malley. Mark: Oh, nice. Perfect. Anna: Phil? Oh, my god. Oh, my god. What happened? Phil: The limo hit a patch of ice. Next thing I know, we’re all upside down, rolling around, and now. Anna.. I can't feel my legs. Anna: Oh, Phil. I'm so sorry. Callie: Okay, get her out of here. I gotta get a consult from Shepherd. Cristina comes down hallway to speak with Webber. Cristina: Oh, sir, Dr. Hahn is working on multiple crash injuries. She wants you to take a look. Webber: Mm-hmm, I'm on my way. (to Owen) You're bleeding. Owen: Oh, my car was right behind theirs at the intersection. I cut it on impact. Webber: And you triaged these men? Owen: Major Owen Hunt, U.S. Army, second forward surgical. I'm a trauma surgeon. I just got home on leave. Webber: Dr. Yang, take care of Major Hunt's leg. Cristina: Uh, sir, I'm .... I'm scrubbing in with you. Webber: After you take care of Major Hunt. Cristina: Hey, where are you going? Owen: To check on my other patients. Cristina: No, no. You are the patient. Izzie in CT room as Alex comes in Betty: Hello? Vincent? Are you there? Where am I? Izzie: You've been in a car accident, Betty. You're having a C.T. It's gonna be okay. Everything is okay, don't move. Alex: Some nut job down there trached a guy with a pen. Pretty freakin' cool. Izzie: You want cool? Check this out, every 30 seconds. Betty: Is someone there? Where am I? Izzie: You've been in a car accident, Betty. You're having a C.T. It's okay. Every 30 seconds, her memory resets .... every 30 seconds. Alex: Might not be so bad. Like hitting the refresh button, everything is new again. Izzie: How you doing? Alex: You keep asking me that, and I keep telling you, I'm fine. Izzie: I know, it's just.. sometimes I still think Denny's gonna be right around the corner, and he's been dead a long time now. It just takes a while to get used to. Alex: Rebecca didn't die. It's not like that for me. I'm good. But thank you for asking. Betty: Hello? Is someone there? Where am I? Alex: You're in a spaceship. You're going to the Moon, enjoy the ride. Izzie: Alex. pager beeps Betty: A space ship? Excuse me? Izzie: You're having a CT, Betty, you're gonna be okay. You've been in a car accident, just don't move. Thanks a lot. Alex: Bailey paged me. I'll see you later. Edited by oncetherewasaway, Apr 3 2009, 09:45 AM.

20:33 Derek is reading Vincent’s films Derek: He has a depressed skull fracture. I could elevate the skull fragments, but there's just no telling how much damage has been done. Webber: We're saving this man. Erica: I think we're looking at an aortic tear, not to mention vast amounts of blood in his abdomen. Webber: We are saving this man. I can handle the abdominal bleeding. Erica: He is circling the drain. Derek: Yeah, I have other traumas to get to. Webber: We are saving this man! Now does everyone understand, or do I have to repeat myself? Erica: Yes, sir. Derek: Understood. Webber: Book OR two. Meredith is with Anna in waiting area Anna: It’s pathetic, isn't it? A married woman cheats on her best friend with her husband? You can't go much lower than that. Meredith: These things happen. Anna: I ran into Michael in the mall and we had lunch. And a week later we had another lunch. And here we are…eight months later, and Sarabeth has no idea. When you, when you spend your life with someone and .... and you have kids together you think it'll always be this amazing and this wonderful. You think .... you think that you'll always feel that kind of love and .... and ....and I do, I ... I do love Phil. I just... Meredith: Just what? Anna: Well, little pieces of you get chipped away…by another person, and then you shave little pieces of yourself away so that you'll fit together and then one day, you look up.. and you don't even know who you are. I better get back to my husband. He'll be wondering where I am. Meredith: Okay. OR Two Webber, Derek and Erica along with Rose Webber: That graft is actually holding. Erica: I am impressing even myself. Webber: Shep? Derek: Mm..hmm, almost there. All right, everybody take a look at the monitor, please. Now to elevate the last of the skull fragments, I'll need a large, flat instrument to get under the bone. A curved number two penfield, please. You know what? Actually, I want my number four penfield. Erica: Oh, that's interesting. Why did you want to use the number four4 penfield instead? Derek: Sorry. Erica: Oh, well, how would you explain it? I'm observing your teaching style. Hope you don't mind. So the penfield .... you changed it because? Derek: I changed my mind. (Rose laughs at the comment) Is that a problem, Rose? Rose: Not at all, Dr. Shepherd. You changed your mind. Got it. Derek: Hmmmm Callie enters OR in search of Derek. Callie: Dr. Shepherd, uh, I've got a guy with a high level spinal injury. I've ... uh, started him on steroids, but I believe he needs to be decompressed. Are you almost done here? Derek: Yeah, I'm done right now. Close up for me? (Derek glares at Rose as he leaves the OR) Erica: So we consider him a good teacher, right? I'm just checking. Derek and Callie are reviewing films. Callie: The spine's crushed from C6 to T1, impinging on the cord. Derek: Yeah, we need to go in and try and relieve the pressure on the spinal cord. But with this kind of injury …. Phil: People don't walk again. Anna: Phil, you don't know that. Phil: Anna, sweetheart .... it's okay. Anna: You have to be able to do something. Phil's very strong and he .... he has grand kids. You have to do something. Owen: You could freeze him.. Cristina: You shouldn't be in here. I'm so.... Owen: If you want him to have a shot at walking again. Derek Callie Cristina and Owen in nurses area Derek: Who the hell are you? Cristina: Army surgeon bad ass, did something crazy with a pen on a guy's throat. Derek: Well, I would appreciate it if you didn't give my patient and his wife false hope. Owen: Until you've exhausted all the options it's not false, it's just hope. Maybe you should keep current on your research. Callie: They did .... uhh .... make a football player walk at Buffalo Gen. using therapeutic hypothermia. Derek: Buffalo Gen.'s patient was twenty years old, in prime cardiac fitness. My patient is in his sixties and is a very risky candidate. I would prefer he live to see his grandchildren. Dr. Torres, book an OR and please tell this patient that this procedure is not an option, despite Uncle Sam's assessment. Cristina: (To Owen... little tongue in cheek) We're closing up your leg now. Callie turn to look at films again..... thinking Bailey and Sarabeth looking at films and talking Sarabeth: Michael can live after they put a pen in his throat? Bailey: Oh, yes ma'am the emergency trach helped him breathe. Dr. Sloan needs to get him to the OR to sta… Sarabeth: Surgery, He needs surgery? Bailey: Uh, when your husband was pinned underneath the car, he suffered a laceration to his windpipe which Dr. Sloan needs to fix to stabilize his airway. He also has some bruising around his kidney and a lac on his liver. Sarabeth: He needs surgery for that? Alex: There's a chance the abdominal injuries will heal on their own, but if its worse, yes, he will need surgery. Sarabeth: Two surgeries? I can't believe this is happening. Bailey: (Bailey glances at paperwork Alex is holding) Hold on. This .... this is today? Alex: Tonight, midnight. Bailey: Um, ma'am, there's also one other matter. Sarabeth: More? There's more? Bailey: Um, just according to billing your insurance expires at midnight. So we're gonna treat you, of course but just to make it easier on you later, is there another card or another insurance policy? Sarabeth: My husband, he .... he takes care of these things. Bailey: Uh, okay. Cristina and Owen in exam room, Cristina turns to get shot to numb his leg. Cristina: I'm gonna numb .... wow! Uh, you're not numbed! Owen: So? Cristina: S ...ow! S ...uh, ow. Owen: Can't get an angle on these. Could you? Cristina: Okay. (Cristina giggles at what she has just witnessed and staples away) Owen: Thank you. Cristina: Don't mention it. Callie enters exam room Callie: Can I ask you something? Cristina: Uh, wh ...what? Callie: Um ..... him, actually. Cristina: Oh ... um yeah, sure. I've got surgery. And ... uh ... poke yourself. (Cristina leaves) Callie: Talk to me about the freezing thing. OR Derek is operating Izzie asks question ..... Rose interrupts Izzie: Betty Kenner, closed head injury from the limo wreck. Derek: Sub-dural hematoma. Izzie: Which is why she has memory loss. Derek: Yeah. Might ease up once we relieve the pressure. Book an OR I'll go in on her once I finish up on Anna's husband. Busy OR today. Rose: But that's kinda your thing... right? Juggling more than one person at a time. (Derek glares again... Rose make a face.....) Meredith and Cristina are at the OR board as Izzie walks up Izzie: How's Betty’s husband doing? Cristina: Oh, I'm scrubbing in on him now. Shepherd did what he could but the Chief and Hahn are still working on him. He is an ugly, ugly mess. Izzie: Sarabeth's husband may need another surgery after Derek's done with him. These poor women. Meredith: Well, Anna ... the one with the cuts ... is married to the guy on Derek's table and she is sleeping with Sarabeth's husband ... the one Sloan's working on. Izzie: You're kidding. Meredith: No, don't tell Betty. Izzie: She wouldn't remember even if I did. Meredith: You mean, that's what happens? You're married forty years and then you become a big, fat lying cheater? I mean if forty years doesn't make you committed, what does? What's the point? What if I move in with Derek .... Cristina: Okay, you know what? I'll give you a hundred bucks if you talk about something else. Izzie: It's not about the years, it's about the man and Derek is a good man. Cristina: Oh well, I'm outta here. Izzie: There are a lot of really good men, you know? George is a really good guy. I mean he.. nope. Sloan is not. Alex. Yeah. Alex has turned into a very good man. Meredith: You and Alex .... Izzie: No, I'm making a point. But it is nice you know, that we're friends and he's changed. He's actually opening up to me. Meredith: So do you think if you moved in and got married in forty years, you'd feel dead inside enough to cheat on him? Izzie: Wow.... OR Webber and Erica operating on Phil Webber: Yang, Major Hunt all taken care of? Cristina: Uh .... I did my best sir. Webber: Okay, come put some pressure on this bleeder for me. You know what I think? I think that number twelve ranking was a mistake. I think it was a clerical error and I'm gonna start making calls about it as soon as I get out of this surgery. Erica: So I've been observing teaching styles. Shepherd likes to teach by thinking out loud. Bailey is blunt and direct and doesn't over teach and Sloan .... well, Sloan just likes to berate and humiliate. Webber: I think if you really want to learn about teaching you should talk to your students, find out how they learn best. Yang? (Cristina gives Webber a look that says.... please don’t go there!) Erica: Oh that's not necessary, sir. Webber: Are you serious about this or not, Dr. Hahn? Erica: Fine....... Go. Cristina: (like a deer in headlights) Ummm .... for me personally, I learn better when I'm asked questions. The Socratic Method. Erica: Well that's the cornerstone of medical teaching. It's what we do in rounds. Cristina: Well not everyone does it. Some people .... simply tell you what to do. Erica: Who? Cristina: Uhhhh..... Erica: Are you talking about me? He's crashing! Get me an aortic clamp! Webber: I can't get a handle on this bleeding in his liver. We may just have to start doing damage control soon. Webber: I see a tear in the renal artery. Yang, are you familiar with the single-layer continuous closure? Cristina: Yes sir, of course. Webber: All right, Erica: BP's still dropping. Webber: Okay, max out on levophed and keep pushing the blood. Get in there and stitch, Yang. Sarabeth is with husband as he is readied for surgery Sarabeth: There's a problem with the insurance. George: As we explained, he can't talk right now. Sarabeth: I know, but, Michael, I ...I called them and the credit card company ... and ... and they said that... the cards have been canceled. I... I don't understand. I... I just need to know what to do. I don't know what to do. Lexie: I'm sorry. I'm .... I'm really sorry, but we need to get him to Dr. Sloan now. (Phil is taken for surgery and Alex enters the doorway) Sarabeth: Is there something I can do? Someone I can call? I... I don't. I don't handle the money but I... if you can just tell me...who to call... Alex: I'll talk to billing and see what I can do. Sarabeth: Thank you. Exam room as Mark is observing George attempt to intebate a patient while Lexie encourages him George: It's stuck. I can't seem to get down the left bronchus. Lexie: Y-you almost got it, George. Mark: What are you, his little cheerleader? Step aside wonder boy, before you make things worse. O’Malley, go find out if the O.R. is ready... if you can manage that. (George leaves room) Lexie: You're a little mean to George, un-unnecessarily mean. And he's studying to retake his intern test, so he's a little stressed out, so I was just thinking maybe you could be nicer. Mark: You're an intern. Why are you talking to me? Lexie: Ye ... well, you're my half sister's boyfriend's best friend, so I... Mark: You thought that makes us friends? You thought that you'd defend your boyfriend to me and I'd just take it? Lexie: He's not my boyfriend. Mark: But you want him to be. Lexie: I do not. Mark: Do too. Lexie: Do not. Mark: Do too. Does he know? Lexie: Shut up. Mark: I'm your attending. You can't tell me to shut up. You want me to be nicer to O’Malley? Lexie: Please. Mark: Confess your love to him, and I'll think about it. Lexie: Shut up. (Mark smirks) Meredith and Alex at nurses station Alex: You know anything about health insurance? Meredith: No, why? Alex: Well, I'm trying to help out a patient. Meredith: Oh, the softer side of Alex. Izzie was right. Alex: What's that supposed to mean? Meredith: Nothing. Alex: What did Izzie say to you? Meredith: She said you were a good man. Said you changed, it was nothing. Alex: Did she say that I cried? 'Cause that is a lie. Meredith: No, she didn't say that. Alex: She should just keep her mouth shut. Meredith: Alex, I made a stupid joke. She didn't mean anything. OR Two as Cristina attempt to stop the bleed Webber: Yang, how you doing? Cristina: It's, um...I can't get it. It's .... it's not holding. It's tearing. I…. Webber: Damn it, Yang. Move. I thought you said you'd done this stitch. Cristina: I have, a hundred times. Erica: On hearts. Cristina: On hearts. Erica: Your forceps were macerating the tissue. You were handling the bowel incorrectly which you would know if you weren't allowed to clock so many hours in cardiothoracics at the expense of your general surgery knowledge. (Webber glares at Erica) Mark’s OR Mark: Crap. His vocal cords are damaged beyond repair. Lexie: Is there anything we can do? George: He probably won't talk again. Mark: I think that question was for me. George: Sorry. Mark: You think just 'cause you get to take your intern test again that makes you big man on campus? Doesn't change the fact you failed it the first time. Lexie: Dr. Sloan. Mark: I'm ....sorry, Grey. Was there something you wanted to say to anyone here? (grinning behind his mask)Lexie: No, there wasn't. Mark: Coward Lexie: Shut up. George: Lexie! Mark: Pressure's dropping. OR Two Webber: It looks like V-Fib. Erica: Twenty joules. Webber: Clear. (Cristina stand back and observes) Derek’s OR Derek: Give me another unit of packed cells, as many as it takes. Rose: Pack, right here. Derek: Somebody get me some FFP suction, please. Suction! Too much blood! There's too much blood! Mark’s OR Mark: We're losing him. ER Sarabeth holding Betty’s hand Betty: What's going on? Am I in a hospital? Sarabeth: There was an accident, but you're going to be fine. (Anna walks in, Sarabeth looks at her ) We're all going to be fine. Derek, Meredith and Mark come to give Anna and Sarabeth news of the surgeries Derek: I was able to repair your husband's vertebrae and relieve the pressure from his spine. But, uh... it... Anna: He .... he's still paralyzed? Derek: Yes, I'm sorry. Anna: Oh, god. Oh, Phil. And ... and ... and Michael. What, what about Michael? Mark: I repaired his trachea. But unfortunately his vocal cords were completely severed in the accident. Sarabeth: He can't talk? He'll never be able to talk again? Anna: We have to be strong. We have to be strong for Phil and ... and for Michael. Derek: I'll be ready for Betty in OR one when you're done here. Webber enters the room to give Betty news of Vincent. Betty: Is it Vincent? Tell me what's happened, please. Webber: Vincent came through the surgery. He's stable but still critical. Betty: Oh, my god. Webber: This is Dr. Yang. She is going to be personally responsible for seeing to it that your husband makes it through the night. Cristina: I'm... I will keep you posted. Betty: Keep me posted... about what? Where am I? Where's Vincent? Izzie: She has a subdural hematoma. Her memory resets every 30 seconds. Cristina: Perfect. Derek sees Rose at OR board and goes to talk with her Derek: Rose, please look at me. If you're gonna behave like this, you can't be in my OR. Rose: Okay, there's no good way to say this. I've been acting this way because I'm ... I'm carrying your child Derek. ..... Hah! Gotha! Derek: This is your idea of a joke? Rose: Oh, please! You deserve it. Who do you think you are? If you're gonna keep behaving this way, you can't be in my OR. Derek: You should transfer to a different specialty. Rose: You should transfer to a different specialty. Derek: I'm a neurosurgeon. Rose: You should of thought of that while repeatedly assuring me that you were over your ex. I'll see you in the OR. I'm not going anywhere. Callie walks up to Webber Callie: Chief, about Phillip Loomis, Shepherd's spinal patient? Hmm ... I was thinking... what about therapeutic hypothermia? Webber: You want to freeze a spinal injury? Callie: They did it in Buffalo and Mass Gen. had success with it too and Major Hunt-- he swears by it. Webber: What does Shepherd think? Callie: He thinks it's too risky in Mr. Loomis' case, that he's not as fit ... is older. Webber: Loomis isn't much older than me. Callie: I can do the procedure, Chief. I just need your okay. George and Lexie in hallway walking George: What were you doing back there? Lexie: I was trying to help you. George: Telling an attending to shut up in his OR .... that's not helping. What makes you think you can get away .... you're sleeping with him? Lexie: What? No. George: Yes, you are. Lexie: You .... why would you even say that? Wait, are you jealous? George: Of the fact that you can tell Sloan to shut up? Yeah. But you know, he's right. I'm the hospital joke, and it's my fault. I'm the one who failed my intern exam and got married in Vegas and cheated on my wife. Lexie: No, you don't understand. The only reason that he was picking on you is …. George: No, it doesn't matter. I can take care of myself. Cristina and Meredith coming down stairway Meredith: So .... and he's got fishing gear and boots and hair products. I don't have room for any of that stuff. And he talks and not a little. I mean, he chats. He's chatty freaking' Cathy.. Cristina: Not right now. Meredith: And then you know what's gonna happen after he moves in, don't you? We build a house on his land, which will be our land because we'll be married, and then I'll be Dr. Mrs. Shepherd. And you know what comes after that, don't you? Babies, and they'll be his babies, so they'll have perfect hair and they'll be chatty. So I'll have five chatty children, a chatty husband and live in a house in the wilderness. And then I'll start sleeping with your husband. I gotta tell him I changed my mind. Don't you think? (both are walking through front entry door when Cristina cannot take one more word) Cristina: Meredith! Meredith: What? Why are you making that face? Cristina: Shut up. You know, just shut up about Derek. Shut up about moving in with Derek. Shut up about your relationship because you want to know why? I've heard it all before. Yeah, you know you guys get together, and I have to listen to it and then you guys break up and I have to listen to it. I almost killed a man in surgery today. I….. Ok, you want .....you want to know what I think? Okay, you .... you really want to know? You and Derek will not work. Moving in together is a mistake of massive proportions. You are dreaming of dead Derek, which should tell you it will not work! Meredith: Cristina, I… Cristina: No, no you know this whole thing, this happily ever after does not exist. So please, please, please, as you weigh your options here, just you .... consider the possibility of shutting the hell up, because I can't listen to it anymore. Meredith: I… Cristina: No. Okay .... no! ..... I .... okay, that's it. I'm done. (Turns back around to come back into the hospital and slips on ice) Meredith: (Meredith looks down at Christina) I'm not gonna say you deserved that, but you deserved that. Cristina: (finds that a bit humorous) Oh, thanks. Oh, help me... help me up. ( a beat and both hear a noise .... look up to see a huge icicle breaks off above Cristina and before you know it impales Cristina!) Meredith: Don't move. I'm gonna go get some help. (Meredith runs off and Cristina is left flailing in the entry) Edited by oncetherewasaway, Apr 3 2009, 09:48 AM.

41:43 Old Meredith removes chicken from microwave... turns to Cristina Meredith: What are you doing? Cristina: Eating cereal. Meredith: I got us a chicken for dinner. Cristina: Chicken .... seriously? Meredith: You're not gonna be hungry now. Cristina: Oh, you're doing it all wrong again as usual. Meredith: I'm not. I'm cutting from the mediastinum out. Cristina: You can't even see the mediastinum without your glasses. Meredith: Damn it, where are my glasses? Cristina: No, put it down. Down. Right here. (shows Meredith she has her eyeglasses hanging from a chain around her neck) Mmmm .... Right here. Move. (Puts on her own glasses and snaps on a pair of surgical gloves as she prepares to cut the chicken) Meredith: What would I do without you? Cristina: Starve. Cristina is still on the pavement gasping in pain as Major Owen Hunt looks down at her from above Owen: A damsel in distress. (Owen picks her up and carries her into the hospital) (Owen pops her down on a bed and starts assisting Meredith and taking vitals) Meredith: Put her on a monitor. Order a portable chest. I'm gonna cut your top off. Cristina: It's between my ninth and tenth intercostal spaces. There's no hemo or pneumothorax. My vitals are stable. Just pull it out. Owen: I wouldn't. Cristina: Mind your own business. Meredith: Who is this guy? Cristina: Get this thing out of me. I already screwed up in front of the chief today once. I can't... I mess up a suture and now he's looking at me like I'm number twelve. Mer, please. No one gets to see me like this, okay? Webber: Yang ... what the hell happened? Get her on a monitor and order a portable chest. Meredith: I did. Webber: Did you check her respiratory function— Cristina: I did. See? Breath sounds clear and equal. Webber: You be quiet. Grey, what would you advise as a course of treatment? Meredith: I think we should leave it in until we get the chest x-ray and the CT back. Cristina: I'm fine. Meredith: But what about infection? This thing is definitely melting dirty roof water into her body. Cristina: Which is why we should pull it out. Owen: Leave it right where it is. You get stabbed in the chest and you're lucky enough to still be breathing, you leave the knife in, at least until you figure out what's going on inside. Leave it in. Cristina: Take it out. Webber: Leave it in. In the meantime, since you know so much you can teach your interns how to treat you. This is a good opportunity to get back to the basics. Cristina: But I need to check on Vincent Kenner. Webber: Grey, Vincent Kenner is your responsibility now. But bear in mind he is my patient, and I'm not about to lose another trauma case today. Keep that man alive. Can I get a word with you, Dr. Hunt? Derek in OR with Izzie and yeah Rose is helping Izzie: You think you'll be able to restore her memory? Derek: Well, I was able to suction the blood and remove the pressure. I'm hopeful. Not certain, but hopeful. 15-blade please. Izzie: Something wrong Dr. Shepherd? Rose: Oh, my god. Derek: Dr. Hahn asked me about teaching before. Here's a tip ..... when you hand a surgeon a 15-blade, make sure it's handle first. (To Izzie) Suction the bleeders while I clean this up and get a new glove. Izzie stares a Rose, cannot believe she just did that.... neither can Rose Alex, Lexie and George with Sarabeth (and Anna) in husband Michael’s room after surgery Sarabeth: He's really gonna be okay? Lexie: Except for his voice. Alex: His abdomen's definitely more tender. He needs another CT Sarabeth: Michael, the insurance, it's ..... it's a mistake, right? It's gotta be a mistake. Look, write down a name and number and I'll fix it and everything will be fine, right? Everything's gonna be fine? Lexie: Uh ..... maybe later would be better. Anna: Sa ...Sarabeth, come on honey. Derek enter patients room to see Webber, Bailey, Callie and Owen around bed Derek: What's going on? Webber: We're going ahead with the freezing. Derek: Without my consent? No, I don't think so. Owen: You really want to be the doctor who doesn't give his all to keep a man from being wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life? Derek: Get out of my patient's room! Owen: I don't take orders from civilians. Derek: Listen, you arrogant, little .… Webber: Shepherd. Derek: Okay, right now this patient is stable. He may never walk again but if you try this he could throw a clot, go into organ failure and he could die. Webber: We're going ahead with the freezing. Derek: Ever since this morning, you've been pissing on anything with a pulse ... trying to prove you're not number twelve and you're not. But right now, with this decision you act like number twelve. Good luck with the patient Dr. Torres. Derek and Mark walk up to desk in waiting/reception area Derek: You know, the chief is under the spell of some insane man in camouflage. Mark: He saved my patient's life. He'll never talk again but still, life saved. What happened to your hand? Derek: Ah ... scalpel. Rose, not intentional. Mark: She's a dead mouse on the kitchen floor. At some point you gotta pick it up and throw it away. Derek: Hmmmm Mark: Want me to take a look at that? Derek: Mer's gonna take care of it. Mark: I'm a renowned plastic surgeon. Derek: It’s a scratch. Mark: Grey's a resident. Derek: She gives me sex, especially when I'm wounded. (Mark chuckles under his breath) Cris’ interns are working to set up CT as Meredith walks Intern: Is this positioned right? Cristina: If I'm getting a mammogram. Lower ... to the right. Two, what are you doing? Steve: Uhh ... draping so your parts are safe. Cristina: Get away from my parts. Oh!... gentle ... gentle ... gentle. Meredith: How are you doing? Cristina: Please take my films 'cause my interns are idiots. How's Mr. Kenner? Meredith: Well, he's stable, but… Cristina: You cannot let him die. Meredith: I'm doing my best. Hold still. Cristina: I am. Just shoot it. Meredith: Hold still because I want to ask you a question. Cristina: What? Meredith: Did you mean what you said about me ... and Derek? Cristina: Oh well, this is not fair. I'm impaled an… Meredith: I know I talk about it too much, and I know I've gone soft and gooey and disgusting. And if I had to listen to it I'd puke too. But you said what you said because you were mad right, not because you meant it? Cristina: Can you just .... just take my x-ray? And ... and it doesn't matter what I say. Meredith: Of course it matters what you say! Of course it matters. (Meredith turns and walk out) Cristina: (To interns who are all taking pictures of Cris on the cell phones) You stop .... oh! Stop taking my picture and take my picture! Meredith at nurse station when she sees Anna in waiting area, rocking back and forth clearly not alright Meredith: Are you feeling okay? (sits down next to Anna) Anna: Her world is about to fall apart and she has no idea. It's all my fault. What should I do? I know I'm a terrible person but what should I do? Meredith: She should hear it from you. You're her best friend even if it's the most terrible thing in the world, you should tell her. Alex sits looking at computer screen as Izzie walks in Izzie: Hey .. Callie's gonna freeze her patient. You want to go check it out? Hello? Alex? Why are you ignoring me? Alex: I'm hoping if I wait long enough, you'll be as annoyed by the sound of your voice as I am and just shut up. Izzie: Okay. Did I do something? Alex: You know what you did. Izzie: No, I don’t. Alex, just tell me. What did I do? I thought that… Alex: Just shut up. I had a bad night and I cried like a girl. I'm over it. You need to get over it too. Callie and Bailey begin the process of lowering Phil’s body temp.... in the room Webber observes Callie: That chill you'll feel is the cold saline rushing through your veins to lower your core body temperature. Phil: And if it works, I walk? Callie: If it works, the hope is that you walk. Phil: Oh, well okay, uh... I'm .... I'm getting cold. Callie: His temp's still 96.8 Chief. Shall we lay another cooling blanket on him? Webber: That's up to you Dr. Torres. You're taking point. That's what the Chief of a number one teaching hospital does. He handpicks talented surgeons and lets them take point. Right Dr. Bailey? Bailey: Couldn't agree more Chief Phil: Warm and toasty, that's what I'm feeling. Bailey: His pulse is falling. Are you sure…? Webber: Yeah, down to 52. Callie: Yeah, it's normal for his pulse to fall. Phil: Okay, h...how much longer we got? Callie: Not too much longer, okay? You're doing great. Bailey: Keep thinking warm and toasty. Phil: Okay, I'm trying. Callie: Good. Bailey: Number twelve my ass. Derek sits as Meredith begins to suture his hand Derek: You want to hear how I cut my hand? It's a good story. Meredith: I am not sure moving in together is a good idea. Derek: Okay ..... Fine. Meredith: Fine? What does that mean? Derek: It means that I know you. Meredith: So what, you didn't believe that I would let you move in the first place? Derek: I believe that you believe it. Look, I'm gonna move very slowly .... baby steps, no sudden moves. You're like a deer in the woods. Meredith: Okay, I built the house of candles. That is unprecedented in the Meredith chronicles. Derek: Fine. Let's move in together. Meredith: Fine. Derek: Unless, of course, you just want to go ahead and get married. Hah! Got you! You want to know where I learned that? Goes with the story of how I cut my hand. Izzie walks up Izzie: What did you say to Alex? Meredith: I ... I didn't say anything. I just ss ... said that I think it's nice that you two are friendly again. Izzie: Oh damn it, Meredith. Why can't you just mind your own business? You know what? Forget it. I should never have told you anything. You can't keep anything to yourself unless it's for Cristina. (Izzie turns and stomps off) Meredith: Izzie! Derek: Marriage? Meredith: Not funny. Phil’s room as treatment continues Alex stops at doorway Alex: Dr. Bailey. Bailey: Yeah. Alex: Michael Briar's abdomen is more tender. Now I ... I know I'm supposed to get a CT but if we start the surgery after midnight he's not covered. we're basically bankrupting him. I say we skip the CT Bailey: Oh, you sa .... You say? No, you don't say. You ask and the answer is, we don't skimp on medicine to save money. Get the CT. Callie: Phillip, you're doing great. I'm giving you more sedative and a paralytic to stop your shivering, okay? Phil: Okay. Callie: Okay, we'll need to intebate, Bailey. Webber: All right, coming down. One, two and three and down. Callie: He's down to 90 degrees. I think that's ... um, too low. I ... is that too low? Webber: You did all the research. Callie: I think it's too low. Oh, my god! Bailey: Okay, so what now? Is this gonna resolve? Do they recommend lido or amiodarone? Dr. Torres? Uh ... Dr. Torres? Webber: He’s barely got a pulse. Callie: Uh ... uh ... should we do CPR? Bailey: No, ... let's t-try to avoid jostling Shepherd’s spinal decompression unless absolutely necessary. Callie: Oh, crap! Crap! Webber: His heart is likely to stop ..... soon. What are you gonna do, Dr. Torres? Callie: I don't know. I ...I don't know. Sarabeth and Anna enter Vincent’s room Sarabeth: How is he? Meredith: We've giving him medication to keep his blood pressure up, but Betty's husband's not as stable as we'd like him to be. Anna: They're freezing Phillip... freezing him...to try to help him walk again. I don’t... they explained it to me very well. And Betty's having surgery on her brain, and poor Vincent here is barely hanging on...and Michael... Sarabeth: It’s all right. We'll survive. We always do. I wish he would just look at me. Anna: Sarabeth .... Michael lost his job eight months ago. Sarabeth: What? Anna: The firm let him go. He just … he couldn't bring himself to tell you. He .... he just felt like such a failure. Sarabeth: Why? .... I don't .... wh...why do you .... how do you know this? ............... He told you ................ He told you. Anna: Sarabeth .... Sarabeth: Anna .... have you been sleeping with my husband? Anna: I'm s .... Meredith: He’s in v-fib. Code blue! Get them out of here, please. Anna: What .... what the matter with him..... Meredith: Push one of epi, one of atropine. Working to get Phil stabilized Erica: You started him on ecmo? You're taking out all his blood and replacing it? Webber: It was the only thing to do, Dr. Hahn. We don't want to jostle his spine, and this will give his heart some rest. Now we need you to monitor him until we get him back on. Now are you in or not? Alex finds Sarabeth alone in waiting area Alex: I sent Michael down for the C.T. I was hoping we could start the surgery, get him in under the wire, but it's almost midnight so ... Sarabeth: It doesn't matter. I don't care. I don’t. Do you .... do you know anything about Betty's husband? He ... I think he was dying. Do you ... have you heard anything? Alex: No. I ....I can find out. Sarabeth: Why do men cheat? My husband slept with my friend. He lost his job and then he slept with my friend, all the while telling me he loves me. Why? Alex: Maybe he was low. He was down and he didn't want you to see him like that. In pain, weak ... as less than a man. He has his pride ... so ... uh he turned away. It's not right but it...it doesn't mean he doesn't care about you. I swear it doesn’t. Webber, Bailey, Callie and Erica continue to stabilize Phil Erica: All right, we all ready to wean? Webber: Let’s do it. Bailey: It looks like he's tachy cardic. Should we shock him, give him adenosine? Erica: Well, normally I'd say yes but this man's an ice cube. Webber: Dr. Torres, in any of your research, was there anything to suggest what to do in a situation like this? Callie: I don't ... I don't ... I mean, um ... I think I messed up here. I don't know. I mean, maybe--maybe .... maybe he would've been fine on his own. Maybe ... maybe....... Erica: All right, look at me. Look at me. Focus. You're trying something new. There's nothing wrong with new. Breaking new ground, pushing the boundaries, it comes with the job. So Dr. Torres, take a breath, stop panicking and just tell us. What did your research say? Callie: My research showed that...that, um...arrhythmias can occur at a certain threshold. His appear to be between.. uh, 91.5 and 92 degrees. Webber: He around 90 right now. Bailey: Okay, so... we could use the ecmo to help bring him back up. Callie: Yes, but not too quickly, because that can cause problems of its own. Erica: All right. Looks like we have some warming to do. Cristina is fed up with icicle in her abdomen while having to teach interns Cristina: What do you see? Intern 1: Um, it kinda looks like it's hitting nothing? Cristina: Ohhhh, almost looks like it's hitting nothing? Because it's hitting nothing! Intern 2: So, like, what does that ... what does that mean? Cristina: What do you mean, what does that mean? Don't you know how to read an x-ray? Intern 2: You .... you always read them. Cristina: Well, get out. All of you just... get out and find me someone with a brain. Enter Major Owen Hunt Owen: Those your interns? They seem pretty scared of you. Cristina: I am not scary. (Owen comes bedside...glances up at her films) Uh, what are you doing? (Owen looks dreamily at Cristina who looks right back dreamily ..... then Owen pulls out Cristina’s icicle really fast) That’s my icicle! Owen: Yeah. Cristina: Uh, you took out my icicle. I didn't give you permission to do that. Owen: So? Meredith enters room ... obviously to deliver bad news Meredith: Cristina. Cristina: He died...? Derek and Webber look through window to patient Derek: My patient still alive? Webber: He's stable. Derek: You let some soldier off the street talk you into something that could have killed a man. Webber: He deserved the chance. Derek: We have no way of knowing if it helped or hurt. Webber: He deserved the chance, Derek. He deserved the best, the most that this hospital could give him. I've let a lot of things slide over the past few years. I've been... soft. Derek: This was not about you being soft. Webber: Yeah, I think it's the fact that Meredith's here, the fact that Ellis' daughter is here. (Meredith enters room) Meredith: Chief. Vincent Kenner ... we gave him 31 units of blood, fresh frozen plasma, multiple liters of LR We did everything we knew how to do. We just couldn't bring him back. Webber: You don't know how to do anything ... none of you. You're halfway through your second year of residency, and you walk around this hospital like it's your god-given right to be here. Well, it is not, Dr. Grey. I assure you. You are here because I allow it. You are here to do what I say, and the one thing I ask you to do… You can't even save.. Derek: Richard! We can't save everybody. Webber: We should try harder. We should try harder. Sarabeth enters Michael’s room where Alex, George and Lexie are prepping him for surgery George: Michael, Sarabeth is here. Alex: He’s a little tired. Uh, the CT showed that his hematoma's getting worse. So Dr. Bailey and I will be taking him down to the OR soon. Lexie: But he wrote you, um, this letter. Sarabeth: I'm not interested. (Sarabeth turns to leave room) Lexie: Sarabeth.... Sorry .... Um ... that wasn't me, that was the letter. (Lexie starts reading Michael’s letter to Sarabeth) It... I ... I know you hate me. Um, again it's not me, it's the letter. I'll ... I'm just gonna read. Um, I know you hate me right now. And you have every right to. I betrayed you. I betrayed our marriage. But I had lost my job and I couldn't tell you, so I told Anna instead, which was wrong and stupid. And I've wanted to tell you a million times and let you know how truly sorry I am but now I have no voice. So I am begging you please, if you could just listen with your heart. Oh, that is so poetic. That ... that was me, so ... not him. Sorry. Um, if--if you could just listen with your heart when I tell you that I know you can't forgive me right now but I'm gonna do everything in my power to make it up to you. And no matter what happens, no matter what you decide to do I’m gonna love you until the end of time. That's it. ... I'm done talk…well, he's done. It's the end. Sarabeth sits in waiting area, gets up as she see Izzie approach.... Anna joins them Sarabeth: Betty? Izzie: She's not awake yet, but I can take you to see her if you'd like. Anna: And her memory? Izzie: We don't know yet. Meredith walk up to the three women with news Anna: Oh, no. Oh, please don't say it. Meredith: I'm sorry.... Vincent. Sarabeth: Oh, god. Oh, god ... no ... no. Meredith: I'm very sorry. Anna: Sarabeth. Sarabeth: No, don't, don’t. Just don’t. Anna: Sarabeth... Vincent’s dead, and Betty... We don't know if she's gonna be okay, and ... and Phillip and Michael .... Sarabeth: Don’t you mention his name to me. Anna: Sarabeth... more bad things have happened to us today than have ever happened before. We have been blessed until today. I took it for granted. I took you for granted. We've been friends for 50 years, ever since we were little girls. And I made...one awful, awful mistake...but I need my best friend. Sarabeth: You slept with my husband. Anna: Please. Sarabeth: I'm going to go see Betty. I'm gonna see my friend. Sarabeth leaves ..... leaving Meredith and Izzie who have just witnessed heartbreak Meredith: I'm sorry about teasing Alex. Izzie: I forgive you. Owen sutures Cristina as she lets her guard down Cristina: Tell me about trauma surgery. Owen: Trauma? Quick and dirty. There's no time to make things pretty and no time for mistakes. Drop your pants. You need a shot of cefazolin IM Cristina: No time for mistakes, huh? So what, you don't make mistakes? Owen: I make mistakes and people die. Cristina: I'm the best surgical resident in my program and... today I killed a man because I couldn't do a stitch. Owen: In the field, you do what you can, you work with what you have. It's about something. It's not about being the best. It's about saving lives. I make mistakes. Guys die by my hand, good guys ... guys who are fighting for their country in a desert. And I don't know everything. Nobody does. So I make mistakes, and I learn. And the next time, I don't make that mistake again. So the next time, the next guy, that guy, he lives.... Mistakes are how you learn. Sarabeth and Anna stand at Betty’s bedside Sarabeth: Hi, Betty. How you feeling? Betty: My head ... hurts. What's going on? Anna: Betty, you and Vincent were in a car accident. Vincent ... I'm sorry. I'm ...I'm so sorry. He ... he didn't make it, Betty. Betty: No, no, please. No. No. He's in the other car. He's just gonna be here any minute. He’s... Sarabeth and Anna both look at Izzie as Izzie glance at the clock, knowing Betty will reset in a few seconds Betty: Oh... my head...it hurts. What happened? 67:40 Lexie in Michael’s hospital room giving him an update and pep talk ..... Mark listens in the doorway Lexie: You look pretty stable which is good because I can't let you go into your next surgery unless you're feeling strong and stable, okay? It happens, people make mistakes. You know they sleep with the wrong person and they hide it. But if you ask me, it's the part that comes after that matters, the part where you make it right. And I think you're off to a good start. Alex outside taking a break when Bailey finds him Bailey: Karev, is Michael Briar ready for his ex lap? Alex: He was ready an hour ago. Bailey: And I'm ready now, book the OR Alex: Fine. Bailey: Dr. Karev, what time is it? Alex: It's tomorrow. His insurance expired. Derek at nurses station, writing in chart when Rose walks up to him Rose: I'm sorry about the hand. Derek: These things happen. Rose: Not to me they don't .... or they didn't before you existed for me. Before you existed .... I was good. Every doctor in this hospital wanted me in their OR. I was known as a damn good scrub nurse. And now I'm the crazy girl out of fatal attraction ‘who goes around stabbing surgeons’. Derek: Sorry. I'm ... I'm sorry. Rose: There's an opening in peds. I start on their service tomorrow. Again, very sorry about your hand. Derek watches as Rose walk away Mark still in doorway of Michael’s hospital room Mark: You’re never at a loss for words with your patients. Lexie: Oh for god sake. Mark: You don't seem to have any trouble letting me know how you feel, so why not tell O’Malley? Lexie: You really are the last person who should be giving romantic advice. Mark: When I like somebody I make sure they know it. Life's too short to live any other way. Lexie: What if he doesn't like me back? Mark: Then he's an idiot. Anna and Sarabeth sit with Betty as Izzie updates her chart Betty: What’s... what am I doing here? Where's Vincent? Did something happen? Sarabeth: I can’t. I ... I can't tell her anymore. I ...I won’t. Anna: I know. Izzie: Why don't you two take a break, check on things? Sarabeth: I don't want her to be alone. Izzie: I'll sit with her. I don't mind. (Sarabeth and Anna get up to leave) Betty: Sarabeth, Anna...Am I in a hospital? Sarabeth: Oh, honey… there's been an accident. Betty: Where's Vincent? Is he okay? Izzie: Your husband is on his way. He'll be here any minute. Betty: He's on his way now? Izzie: Yes. He's just around the corner actually, if you watch the door, you'll see him any minute. You’ll see him. Betty: Good. He’s... He’s on his way? Izzie: He's on his way. Betty: Around the corner. Izzie: Yes, he's around the corner. (walk over to Sarabeth and Anna and quietly says) It's better for her ) Sarabeth: Thank you. Come on. Let's go check on our husbands. (Sarabeth takes Anna’s hand to leave) Bailey and Alex in OR about to start Michael’s surgery Bailey: Karev, I think that clock is wrong. I know it says 2:30 A.M. But I'm pretty sure it's actually only 11:58 P.M. Can you fix it, please? Alex: Set it back? Bailey: Set it back. It's important that the official hospital record shows the right time and the insurance company needs it too. And I say it's only 11:58 P.M. ..... (Bailey waits until clock is set back) Scalpel. Major Owen Hunt tends to Cristina’s injury .... Cristina doesn’t mind at all Owen: You know, you'd be good in the field. Now that you got this battle scar you'd fit right in. Cristina: (laughs) Oh, right. Owen: I'm serious. You should ditch this place ... and go for the adventure. You're telling me this place gives you a rush, a high? Cristina: Yeah. Yeah, it does. Webber: Oh, Dr. Hunt, there you are. How's the gash on that leg? Owen: Uh .... Dr. Yang took good care of me, excellent care. Webber: I made a few calls they speak very highly of you at Maryland shock trauma. I also heard a story that you constructed an OR table from an exploded Hum Vee in the middle of the desert, that true? Owen: Well, you have to be innovative in the middle of the desert. Webber: You have to be innovative everywhere. How would you like a job Dr. Hunt? Owen: I appreciate the offer but I am due to go back to the sandpit, finish my tour. Webber: Well .... good luck to you. Owen turns to look at Cristina with a undecided look Cristina: What? (Owen moves to Cristina’s bedside and kisses her senseless and she kisses him right back) I ... I... I ...I don't even know you. Owen: So? (smirks and caresses her hair) Owen walks out leaving Cristina sitting on her bed puzzled but satisfied Callie, Derek and Bailey in ICU as they discuss Phil’s progress Callie: Might have been the hypothermia treatment. Derek: Or my surgical skills. Bailey: Oh, we'll never know. (Mer walks up to three doctors) Meredith: What's going on? Callie: Phillip can wiggle his toes. (All three doctors chuckle) Bailey: Oh, say it. Derek: Don't make me say it. Bailey: Please say it, say it for me. Even though it's technically not true yet. Derek: We made a man walk. (Bailey is thrilled and laughs) Bailey: We made a man walk. Callie: We made a man walk. (All three doctors laugh, Callie and Bailey leave) Anna walks up to Phil’s bedside and caresses his cheek with her hand and kisses his cheek Phil: What a nice way to wake up. (Derek and Meredith watch the exchange ..... Meredith realizes that with all the drama going on.... Phil and Anna will make it.... tough times or not) George and Lexie at nurses station outside Michael’s room Lexie: Did you sleep with Meredith? George: Yeah, I did. Lexie: Why? I ... I mean. Sor…I...Were you in love with her? George: I thought I was. But I was too scared to admit it so I... I did know that she...did not ... uh ... like me that way and ... I did it anyway, when I I...I shouldn't have, because I'm... besides just being ... so selfish I...you know to take advantage of her that way and to want her to want me, like that when clearly she … like I said I made a lot of mistakes last year but I'm trying to get back on track and... you know, I gotta do that by myself, so- Lexie: The only reason I ...I...I wanted to help is because I ... I ... I feel like you and I are more than just...roommates. George: We are more than just roommates. Lexie: We are? George: Yeah, we're friends. I mean right now you're probably one of my best friends. Lexie: Best friends. Sarabeth walks to Michael’s room and stands in doorway.... Michael waits to see what’s coming. Sarabeth sighs a big one and walks to Michael’s bedside and caresses his cheek, sits on his bed and kisses him. They will get through this. Callie leaving SGH sees Erica at counter signing out for the day Callie: I'm not an experimenter. I don't like to experiment. Erica: Oh. Callie: But then you showed up and we did it together and the experiment was kind of a success. Erica: Oh ..... Oh. Callie: Look I've never done this before. I ... I've never kissed a girl. I'm not sure I even like kissing girls. I don't, actually like kissing girls. I just... like kissing one girl ..... you. Erica: I don't have anything to compare it with. I...You’re the only woman I've ever kissed. Callie: So you're freaking out, too? Erica: A lot of therapy time. Callie: Yeah, I don't do therapy. I just get all "tthhaaaah!" And then I get all clingy and... Okay. You don't need to know that yet. So... does this..this kinda makes us virgins doesn't it? Erica: I... guess in a way it does. Callie: Virgins. Hey we can be scared together. Erica: Kind of virgins, and yeah, we can be scared together. (They walk out together) Cristina’s apartment as Meredith help Cristina sit down on sofa Meredith: Okay? Cristina: Yeah, thanks. Meredith: You said Derek and I would never make it. Cristina: And then I was karmically impaled for saying it. Meredith: But you're right I mean people don't really have happily ever after’s. People barely have ever after’s. So why would Derek and I be any different? Cristina: Mer, why do you care what I think? Meredith: Because you're my person. And if I'm gonna do this with him, be whole and healthy and be a warm gooey person who lives with a boy, I need you. I need you on board. I need you to cheer me on. Because you're the only one who knows me ... darkly .... really knows me. I need you to pretend that I can do this even if you don't believe. Because if you abandon me now I will never make it and I'll never get my happy ending and then that's just .... Cristina: Life. Meredith: I'm saying please here. Cristina: I think you and Derek will make it, you'll make it work. Meredith: Are you just telling me what I want to hear? Cristina: I’m your person. I'm on your side. Meredith: [voice over]: Once upon a time, happily ever after. The stories we tell are the stuff of dreams. Fairy tales don't come true. Izzie comes out of her room to see Alex in his room making out with a woman ..... Izzie in ball gown enters elevator Meredith: [voice over]: Fairy tales don't come true. Izzie’s elevator door opens to see Denny Izzie: See? I told you I would show you my dress. Denny: You look better than a bride. Denny and Izzie gaze into each other’s eyes then walk hand in hand through a set of brightly lit doors ............Izzie back to see Alex look at her then closes door Meredith: [voice over]: Reality is much stormier. George and Lexie playing cards and laughing on sofa in their apartment Meredith: [voice over]: Much murkier. Derek and Meredith at his trailer, packing his things for the move in Meredith: [voice over]: Much scarier. A new day as Webber enters a room full of doctors he has gathered Webber: Listen up people. Listen up. We used to be the best surgical program in the west, an upstart program that no one ever heard of that blew everyone out the water. Then overnight ... we got old …entrenched and sloppy just like everyone else. We've been resting on our laurels. You have all been failing, failing to take initiative, failing to ask the tough questions, failing to practice your skills, failing to give opportunity to practice skills. And I let it happen. So you have not failed we have failed. Well it stops, and it stops now. People sliding over general surgery as though they will never see anything but a heart or a brain through the course of their career, as though blood from the heart doesn't make its way through the whole body or the nerves don't travel past the brain stem. It's shoddy teaching and it makes for shoddy surgeons. We've failed. Get it? We all have and it stops now. The surgical training protocol is officially changing people. The bar has been raised. Consider yourself on notice. Meredith: [voice over] : Reality. It's so much more interesting than living happily ever after. Edited by oncetherewasaway, Apr 3 2009, 10:36 AM.
