Baltimore Mega-Weekend Tournament

Baltimore Mega-Tournament
Facebook Event
Feel free to join the Facebook Event, and talk about deck ideas, or ask questions there.

Format:
Dual-Legend
Each deck must contain EXACTLY 12 cards that are or reference each legend, NO MORE, NO LESS, NO OVERLAPPING (ex. Bosom Buddies counts as either Cable or Deadpool, but not both)

FAQ

The reason for the limit on the number of Legend cards is so that decks like Spider-Clones, and Crisis Doom wouldn't over run the tournament, and allow for more creative things to be played.

Identity "Legends", such as Flash, CAN be used as your Legend in the Dual Legend format.

For Dual Legend, NO MORE THAN 4 of your "Legend" cards can be the same army card. This is to prevent Moloids-type things, and so people won't pick an army character as their "Legend".

Omnipotence banning is so that every deck isn't FORCED to play resource row hate cards, just to operate their deck. Having a card that shuts down "Legends" in a "Legend" format just seems like asking for trouble.

Banned Cards:
Post-UDE ban and errata list applies
Blink, Earth-295 / Clarice Ferguson
Omnipotence

As before, the council sets will not be allowed. All UDE set will be legal for this tournament.

Date:
Saturday, October 5th, 2013
Registration starts at 11AM, and the Tournament will begin promptly at 12PM. Pre-Registration is encouraged and will make the process easier and faster. For Pre-Reg, PM me starting in June.

Location:
Games and Stuff
7385 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd
Glen Burnie, MD 21061
(410) 863-7418
www.gamesandstuffonline.com

Again, I am going to be TO/Judge, however I am also going to be playing in the tournament. If there are any problems with that, please let me know ASAP and I'll try to get someone to co-TO/co-judge.

Possible Change to Tournament Legality!

Posted by mrmaul558 (Senior Member) at Mar 30 2013, 10:15 PM. 16 comments

Hello, fellow members of vssystem.org.

I had an idea recently, regarding the various tournament formats of our beloved game, and this idea comes from the way MTG does things, so I'll start with an explanation:

When Wizards of the Coast (the company that makes Magic: The Gathering) releases a special product (i.e., a product that is not a traditional "expansion set" sold in booster packs), they do not allow those cards to be legal in the tournament formats that only allow recent cards (MTG calls it "Standard", you may know it as Modern Age), but rather only allow them in eternal formats (equivalent to our Golden Age).

I thought that this would be a good idea to port over to VS System tournaments; in perusing the boards lately, I've noticed more and more contempt for cards like Pathetic Attempt and Omnipotence, in that you almost HAVE to play them in every deck because they are just THAT good and universal. A Modern and Silver Age format without these cards could, potentially, be healthier and more diverse, since you would no longer have these "must-play" generics in there. Then again, it could break the formats beyond playability.

Now, I, myself have never played in a VS System tournament, so I don't exactly have the best handle on metagames, decks to beat, etc, so the Council and I thought it best to pose this question to you, the community.

Do you want to see the Heralds of Galactus set relegated to Golden Age?

I say the Heralds of Galactus set, specifically, because that seems to be the "special set" that spawned the "must play" cards, but this question applies equally well to the Fantastic Four, Batman and X-Men Starter Sets, as well as the mini sets (MEX, DCX, etc).

Personally, I think that relegating the Heralds of Galactus Set and the Starter Sets to Golden Age makes the most sense; the mini-sets seem to be more tied into the sets that they came out alongside than Galactus and the Starters.

But I want to know what you think. Is the system fine the way it is? Should all the special sets be moved to Golden Age? Should we leave the Starter Sets alone and just move the Galactus Set? In the poll above, check which sets (if any) you think should be moved to Golden Age only. Then post your thoughts below!

Announcing MGX Playtesting

Posted by Crusader (Senior Member) at Feb 18 2013, 09:48 PM. 9 comments

Greeting from the 2013 Player Council.

As many of you may know, Marvel Galaxy has been a project in the making for a while now, held up as real life crept into the schedules of those involved. Thankfully there is now a new MWS set file for play testing and it looks like we are closer than ever before for the release of Marvel Galaxy. Right now the we need help from the community.

Anyone interested in play testing should contact OnyxWeapon and he will help you from there. Lets get this project marching towards completion. :)

On behalf of the 2013 Player Council,
Crusader
