We have decided on a pile-o-crap format (golden age). Your deck must have 35 characters of a single affiliation (splitting drops) and 25 non-character cards. All your non-character cards must reference your chosen single affiliation. The idea is to build a deck capable of losing with pride but here's the catch. When you sit down with your opponent you swap decks. What team do you rate as the worst team in VS? What decktype would you love to give to a friend and see them struggle to find a win condition? My first team of thought is manhunters. |

If the purpose of to win the other players deck or lose against your deck. But anywho, I think Shi'ar would be a mcguffin of a deck. Nice curve (sans 3 drop ) also. 1-7 The big prob would be that they be not having any plots etc. So with that in mind, Team Superman seams to be good fodder. I can't quote. But shi'ar? Doesn't fit the requirements. Here is the drop breakdown for the tourney: 2 drops x 7 3 drops x 7 4 drops x 6 5 drops x 6 6 drops x 5 7 drops x 4 So you need an mega-bad affliiation that is packing drops. Hahahaha |

This is easy. Build Anti-Matter, using all the hidden or visible power based guys, then fill the deck with PTs that utilize Willpower and / or resource KO. Similarily, build Emerald Enemies using characters that are willpower based and plot twists for resource KO. |

In addition to the character breakdown and team-stamping of non-character cards requirements, there are also a few gentlemen's rules. [A format like this just wouldn't work unless it's in a fairly tight knit group of friends who won't do dick-ish things to friends just for the sake of winning.] The first gentlemen's rule is that all of the cards in the deck must be playable for an effect, so no dual loyalty guys or cards that you can't meet the playing requirements of (e.g. willpower effects in a deck without willpower characters). We've kind of set the tipping point at cards like Xavier's Dream - you can play it in an X-Men deck, but it probably won't do anything. Each player has to decide for themselves if they might include cards like that, or if they'll only use cards that will at least probably do something. Secondly, don't try to uniqueness screw your opponent (with all Supermans, Spideys or Wolverines) ... all unique character names should have a minimum of one drop separating them (e.g. it's okay to have Wolverine (3) and Wolverine (5), but not okay to have Dr Doom (3) and Dr Doom (4)). Finally, play in the spirit of the format. Your trying to build the worst FUNCTIONAL deck that you can. Don't do anything in your deckbuilding that you wouldn't think was fair if it was done to you. The idea is to play with "bad" cards that we otherwise never use and to see who can get the most out of the crap deck handed to them. Additionally, I think it's interesting to play against a deck that you know well, with a deck that you have no idea what it contains. As for the topic, I reckon Arkham Inmates pound-for-pound are the worst. They have plenty of good cards, but they have enough bad cards that they can really dish up a pile to an opponent. That said, I think there are more fun ways to hamper your opponent ... but I'll keep those ones to myself.

On-curve Sinister Syndicate could be fun in this format. Play the guys that burn you out, but don't give any way to eat resources or that accelerate for the win. Something like: Turn 1: Lizard (MTU) Turn 2: Spider-Slayer VX (MTU) Turn 3: Rhino (MSM) Turn 4: Kraven (MSM) Turn 5: Carnage (MSM) Turn 6: Harry Osborn <> Green Goblin (MTU) Turn 7: Green Goblin (MSM) Cards like Alien Symbiote, Spider Slayers, Doc Ock's Lab, Hidden Cache, Planet of the Symbiotes, and Dangerous Experiment are all great cards that 'feel' like you're winning, but in the end . . . |
